"We absolutely loved this holiday. We went in a group of 10 (4 adults and 6 children). The food at the hotel was lovely, they varied it every day so it didn't get boring. We went half board. As we usually go self catering it was much easier having most of our meals sorted. The hotel was clean and of a high standard. The staff were friendly and helpful. The resort itself was excellent. there was so much for the children to do. There ages varied from 2 years to 14 years and they all enjoyed it. For the price we paid for this holiday it more than met our expectations and we would definitely go back again. 10 out of 10."

"Very pleased with hotel. The room was spacious and towels changed and room cleaned daily. We were bed and breakfast only and I would recommend this as there are many good and reasonably priced restaurants in the resort. The Chinese and Indian restaurants in party street are both very good. Although the hotel is in party street it is on the fringe of the buzz and you are not really bothered by the noise. The toilets however leave a lot to be desired and most of them charge you to use them. In one restaurant I had to pay to use their toilet and lady kindly handed me a tiny piece of toilet paper, this was in the restaurant in front of everyone! You are pestered with people from the hotels and bars trying to get your custom but most are polite and courteous. We had a great holiday and would recommend the hotel. "

"The hotel is very clean; the maids are always working from morning to night!! The room was a little small as there was a double bed, single bed and a pull out bed no separate bedroom was available which would have been nice!! The food did become quite repetitive after the first week as they seemed to have the same sort of food. But there is plenty of options in the resort which is literally on the doorstep but there does not seem to be a noise level when in your rooms. There are girls of the night outside the hotel but if you ignore them they soon get bored!! We had a fab time there was a 4 year old and thirteen year old and they both enjoyed. The resort has cottoned on to being cheap so be warned that prices are rising. But you will not be disappointed with the hotel I can guarantee. "

"Stayed here in May, there were 5 in our party so we were given 2 rooms next to each other. Even though we were right next to the lifts there was no noise from other guests and as the halls were carpeted no suitcase/high heel noise either. Had full board and food was good. Breakfast was always topped up once supply got low; choice of cooked food/cereal or even cold meats. Evening meal again â plenty of choice of hot or cold foods, also desserts and ice cream room. Bar was reasonable, possibly the beer cheaper than some shops. Bathroom supply was flannel, soaps, shower gel/caps, bath salts etc, so nice little extras. Play staff very friendly and there is a pool table, playroom, lovely new computers in the internet room. The gym leaves a lot to be desired but who wants to go there anyway? There is a masseur, nail bar and hairdresser onsite. Pool bar very over priced on cans and bottles of pop but not too bad on food, which was ok. Lovely indoor pool if too warm outside or just for lengths. As my son was disabled the lifts and several toilets was a godsend. All in all, a very good hotel. Would use it again. "

"We were a party of three and had booked to fly from Cardiff to Varna but at the last minute we were told that we would arrive at Bourgas with a transfer (2 hours by road) to Golden Sands. Not a promising start. (If you travel to the hotel in a hired car, you will probably have a problem parking with only room for half a dozen cars. Use a bus or a taxi instead!) However, our stay at The Odessos proved to be very pleasant. The hotel is just a few hundred metres from the beach in a quieter location than many of the other, larger hotels. Unlike some earlier comments on this site, we found the rooms spacious, well equipped, with good air-conditioning and clean. The staff were friendly and courteous and the maids kept our two rooms beautifully clean and tidy. (Hooks in the bathroom would have been useful and take care stepping out of the bath/shower, the bath is too high - especially if you are less able!) The restaurant offered a reasonable choice of food, a little different from our British taste but the hotel was catering for holiday-makers from all over Europe - a cottage pie or some good English-type sausage and mashed potatoes would have given variety! There was a wide selection of vegetables, salads and fruit available. (No cold water dispenser available for dinner and beware the price of drinks, including bottle water, in the restaurant!) The two pools were kept clean and well serviced although the temperature of the indoor pool was rather cool even for those accustomed to swimming off the coast of Britain! There was also a steam room, Jacuzzi, gym and massage on offer. (Massage was also offered by a variety of voluptuous young ladies every couple of hundred metres along the Golden Sands beach, if your heart is in good order!) There are a couple of 24-hour supermarkets near the hotel and dozens of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. There is a small bank about 100m away offering better exchange rates than those offered at the hotel. On the streets you will showered with leaflets by, generally polite, young women extolling the virtues of the numerous clubs and bars or pestered incessantly by men trying to drag you in to their restaurants. To be fair, many bars and restaurants offered good food and drink at reasonable prices. There is a frequent bus service into Varna costing about 60p but beware pickpockets - even on the bus into the city! If you are active, a recommended trip is to take a taxi up to the Aladzha Monastery and then walk the 6km back down to Golden Sands through the heavily wooded hillside. The steep hilly sections were paved during the communist era and there is piped spring water to refresh you en route. Enjoy your stay at The Odessos! "

"What can I say? Plenty, the hotel itself is nice enough, the food is absolutely disgusting, the head waiter told me I could have anything I wanted, because we were the last 2 couples staying in the hotel. I asked for pasta and some sort of sauce to accompany it, to my horror I was proudly presented with a large bowl of boiled pasta, no sauce. When I asked the waiter for my sauce he turned towards the kitchen and came back with Tomato ketchup, not really my idea of pasta! All I ate in the hotel was bread, very disappointed, on leaving the hotel for the airport I had to wake the receptionist up so that I could check out. The hotel is also used by the local prostitutes to service their clientele where you have a vast array of all ages only 5 minutes walk from the hotel along Party Street, where you are guaranteed to be pestered by many on your evening jaunts. Local shops good for cheap designer tops, jackets etc all fake of course! Found a lovely Indian restaurant though! If you are out and about and need the toilet you have to pay, wherever you are, like toilet tax or something to make a quick buck! Would not go back! Canaries here I come! "

"A four stars Hotel, but with a lot of problems. No warm air in rooms. Poor personnel, they speak only Bulgarian, except the staff from reception. The parking is only for six cars. For others they recommend another parking place which is far away from the hotel and is not guarded. If you park near Hotel you have a chance not to find it there anymore. Food was always finished and changed very rarely. In conclusion don't go to Odessos because the services are for 2-3 stars."

"It was alright though the first night we changed rooms because even though it was huge, it was empty...just a bed and a desk but tonnes of space plus there were stains on the bedding and carpet. The second room we had was great and it was even bigger, but we had a sofa and a table to fill it up. Overall the hotel was a bit tacky, it really didn't feel like 4* quality, it looked great from a distance but was a bit cheap up close, plus the indoor pool stunk! In fact everything in Golden Sands was cheap except for the hotel bar prices! The food in the hotel isn't worth it, we enjoyed eating out instead. I loved the resort, there was always something to do even in the rain. Though the holiday season was ending, I can imagine it's buzzing at its peak especially when they do buy one get one free on cocktails!! I never felt unsafe, I was warned lots before I went, that I had to be permanently on my guard but I didn't experience any dodgy business going on! Loved Golden Sands would not go back to The Odessos! "

"This was our first visit to Bulgaria and we were a little apprehensive as what to expect. This apprehension soon disappeared as we began what has been one of the best holidays we have had in several years. The hotel Odesssos was in an excellent position close to the beach, close to the shops and bars yet its actual position was just on the fringe so it wasn't too noisy. The hotel was clean and had a good range of facilities ranging from indoor and outdoor swimming pools, nightly entertainment, bars, a gym etc. The staff were very helpful and polite. We had half board and there was a good choice of different dishes and we would find at least one dish that we could enjoy eating. Saying that most of the food choices were not my cup of tea and in hindsight we would have been better with the bed and breakfast option. There are numerous bars and restaurants within the resort selling good food at very cheap prices. Drinks are cheap and compared to Spain and Greece you get a lot more for your money in Bulgaria. One problem we did find with the hotel was the height of the bath it was quite a drop when getting out of the bath onto the floor. This might not suit less able people. The season is a lot shorter compared to further south in Greece and Spain and although we were there at the end of June/early July there were a few blips in the weather. If we were to holiday there again we would choose no earlier than July and no later than the end of August."

"Stayed at the Odessos Sept 2006. Food well below 4 star rating. Staff rude and miserable. Arrived In hotel room to find, big, dirty stain on bed, so we had to turn mattress over to sleep on it. (Should really have complained, but too tired when got there). Carpets along the hallways to hotel rooms were covered in big, dark stains. Fed up at end of week by people throwing leaflets into your face asking you to drink in their bars and eat in their restaurants and the place was crawling with prostitutes. Definitely would not recommend, would never go back and certainly would never recommend the Odessos Hotel to anyone. "

"Thoroughly enjoyed this holiday! The hotel was the best either of us have ever stayed in. spacious, very clean rooms, had a great view over the pool. The staff were very friendly and the maids did an excellent job of keeping our room clean. Bar staff very friendly too. Night life is good, plenty of bars and restaurants to visit. The food wasnât great as the Bulgarians donât really cater for the British yet but we survived! Be ready for all the leaflets you'll be given for bars/restaurants! On our last night we had thought about going round and giving all the leaflets back! The pool is very nice, quite cold though and we met some great people who we will be keeping in touch with :) Overall, a great holiday, couldnât fault it. It was sad to come home but was nice to have some proper home made food...shepherds pie! "

"This is a fantastic hotel, it is only 2 year old still has a new feel to it. There are a number of bars situated around the hotel which are reasonable and you can get a good cup of tea or cocktail, the barman Vod is also a great guy and cannot explain why there is a Newcastle United Clock behind the bar. The restaurant has a variation of food on each night although not all of it was to my personal taste you have to remember this is a hotel restaurant and they need to cater for all, fresh fruit and salad are always available along with a good selection of vegetables. The pool area was clean and well serviced, activities such as table tennis and pool were available along with dancing and language classes giving something for everyone. The indoor pool was warmer than the outdoor pool and also offered a steam room, gym, massage and jacuzzi. The rooms were cleaned daily, very spacious and had plenty of amenities including cooking facilities, mini bar, TV, coffee maker, safe and crockery. Although we were on the 1st floor and the view was not too spectacular the room was still very safe and comfortable. The hotel was located at the end of party street about 5 min walking from the beach, there was a 24 hour supermarket opposite and restaurants even closer. Although it is very close to party street it is located far enough away not to be affected by the noise and ladies of the night! I would highly recommend the hotel! "
