brilliant christmas !
"Really lovely hotel, excellent food and they made us feel very special over christmas time, the staff are very kind and all look after you, nothing is too much trouble. Joseph is a lovely gentleman who runs a very efficient team and he is charming to everyone. the four of us had a fab christmas and really enjoyed the resort and the skiing, very chocolate box pretty and suitable for families as well as friends on holiday, a truly lovely time. PS Holly is the best rep in the resort too!"

Great hotel! Good food! Comfortable rooms!
"Just returned from a week's skiing/snowboarding in Soll. We stayed at Hotel Tyrol and thoroughly enjoyed it! The breakfast and evening meal was substantial and good quality. The rooms were pleasantly furnished with very comfortable beds and great showers - just what you need for a snow holiday. The hotel facilities are good - nice bar, good equipment drying room, sauna and steam room. The only fault is the little extras you have to pay for - the whirlpool, tap water in the restaurant and the instructions for the safe in the room. Nothing too bad but something I'm not use to. Overall, an excellent hotel with good friendly staff! A credit to Soll!"

Comfortable, friendly, great food
"Have just returned from a week's skiing in Söll based at Hotel Tyrol. The location is very good, in a quiet road just two minutes' walk from the village centre and about 10 minutes' walk from the main gondola (though this is a long way in ski boots!). The ski bus stops right outside the hotel. Rooms were typical traditional Austrian style, very comfortable and immaculately clean. We didn't have the problems mentioned in some earlier reviews with the rooms being overheated, so maybe this has been addressed. Would agree, though, about the showers being less than ideal (just a handset on a hook at the side of the bath). A minor niggle was the very noisy bathroom fan, which meant the children couldn't hear us when we were shouting at them to get out of the bath! The decor in the bathroom is a little dated, but the bathroom itself is nice and big and we really appreciated the plentiful hot water - no problem in running four baths in a row at the end of a hard days' skiing. Service was very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant is really very good - there's a salad/soup buffet at dinner every evening, followed by a starter, main course (you choose the main course the night before from a choice of three and there's always a vegetarian option) and dessert. The children got to choose from a more extended menu which was the same every night but with a good choice including pizza, spaghetti bolognese, turkey escalope with veg, or fish fingers / chicken nuggets / sausage / cheese and ham toastie with chips.. I felt they overdid the sweets a bit, though, as the children's mains always came with a packet of Haribo, and the dessert with a lollipop. We did balk at the price of drinks, though mainly because we have previously had all-inclusive deals so aren't used to paying the extra. The hotel literature gave the impression that there was a wi-fi connection in the bar, but this wasn't the case. There is a coin-operated internet terminal, though, for which you pay 1 euro for 12 minutes (minimum charge 50 cent, 6 minutes), which served our needs well enough. Overall I would recommend this hotel as good value for money and a nice, friendly comfortable place to stay."

Loved the Hotel Tyrol
"Having never skied in Soll, Hubbie and I booked to stay at the Hotel Tyrol for one week in Jan. After arriving very late, we were shown to the dining area by Josef on reception and were promptly served a 4-course meal by extremely helpful and pleasant staff. The food was lovely and our large room with balcony was spotless. Breakfast was cereals/yogs/juices/fruit/breads/pastries/meats/cheeses/cakes and hot food with gallons of tea/coffee on tap. Evening meals were soup (homemade and lovely), salad and then main courses plus desert. We didnt need to eat during the day as we were so full! The Hotel has a skibus stop just outside but as we had our equipment stored at the base of the slopes, we walked into town & back every day for our warm-up and cool-down. Only takes 10mins and very pleasant. The Hotel also has a bar (smoking is permitted), sauna/steamroom, jacuzzi and solarium (extra) plus ski storage in the basement. Soll itself is quite small and quiet but locals very friendly. Couldn't fault the accommodation one bit and would happily stay there again."

"We booked a weeks skiing with friends in Soll at the beginning of Jan 2009 and stayed in the Annexe of the hotel Tyrol. The rooms were slightly dated looking, but perfectly fine and comfortable. Each room had an en suite bathroom with a bath (essential after a long days skiing!). The rooms did not have an iron or a safe, but a safe was available for a charge at reception. The Annexe is literally the other side of the road to the main hotel and as far as we could tell the rooms were identical. The food in the hotel was excellent. I'm talking proper restaurant quality food every night, with a choice from the menu. On the coach home we overheard people from other hotels complaining about the bland buffet food they had, but we smiled as we had awesome food every single night. The staff at the Tyrol were also very friendly and helpful and made our stay even more pleasant. Soll itself had a handful of 'main' bars, but was actually not the party town we were led to believe it was. However, after a hard days skiing we were in bed by about 10pm-11pm each night so this wasn't a problem. The skiing was very good, but make sure you explore the mountain as the lift pass can be used all over and links all of the other resorts. If you stay in the first part of the mountain the skiing can get a bit boring. Over all we had a great time in Soll and at the Tyrol and would definitely recommend it."

"Just had a great stay at The Tyrol, group of 9 and were all happy with accommodation, staff really friendly and very helpful, rooms spacious and very clean, quiet spot, ski bus pick up right outside and on time, am used to staying closer to lifts and gondalas but this worked out well, food was plentiful and very well organised, no waiting and great choice of main, breakfast to suit all. The lounge area was very comfortable and prices of drinks ok. The only criticism i do have is that the rooms were way way too hot, unbearable in fact and unable to turn down radiators. We made a note of this on our comment sheet so hopefully if you stay here then maybe will be better for you. Had a great night New Years EVe in the Whiskey Mule, anything goes!!!"

"Only a short walk to village or bit longer to cable car. Free bus service along the valley stopping at the various cable cars and ski lifts was great even if squashed in sometimes. One driver helps to lift the spirits by getting passengers to sing or doing comedy over the PA system. Our room in annexe on top floor was facing the main hotel. It was very small for a family of four and uncomfortably hot with absolutely no ventiliation, even with the balcony door and window open. There is no air conditioning. Spare pillows would have been appreciated. The shower in the bath is difficult to use as there is no high hook to hold it, so you have to crouch down and hold the shower head. This is bad enough, but as there is no shower curtain as well, you can imagine the bathroom floor after 'shower time'. The curtains did not close properly so we were woken early by light streaming into the room. Combined with the appalling lack of ventilation, this meant we struggled to get a full night's sleep all week. I would never stay in this room again. The lift does not go to the top floor of the annexe as stated in the Crystal brochure. Excellent food in the restaurant, tremendous variety and well presented - children's menu was appreciated too. Waiting staff were very helpful and friendly. Drinks were ludicrously expensive, bottled water was over 4 euros and we were refused tap water. Man on reception was grumpy as mentioned by other reviewers. We did not have any towels in our room for use by the pool area. When he was asked to provide these, he refused stating that there were 4 'yellow towels' in the room. Even after returning all the way to top floor in the annexe to check, he still told me I was wrong and expected me to return to take the 'normal' towels from our room. After an argument he eventually provided 4 pool towels. I would think carefully before returning to this hotel, but loved Soll and the surrounding areas."

"Had our first visit to Austria at the end of June for 10 days, and stayed at the Hotel Tyrol with my husband and 2 kids (ages 10 and 7). We all had a fantastic holiday with great weather. We stayed in the Annexe at the hotel, and our room was nice and spacious, and very clean. The food at the hotel was excellent, with plenty food at breakfast time to get you ready for the day ahead. The evening meals were also 1st class with a great variation, and each and every meal was delicious. The kids could also either choose from a kids menu, or they could pick from the adults menu which again was excellent. Everything was so fresh and tasty. All the staff were very pleasant, friendly and helpful. I would also recommend buying the fresh milk from the neighbouring dairy farm, especially after a hot day up the mountains!! Everything is spotlessly clean in Austria, and puts the UK to shame!! We are hoping to return to Austria again, and will definetly stay in the Hotel Tyrol."

"Just got back from 10 days at the Tyrol. Got a late deal with Crystal which was £600 off the brochure price for 2 people. At that price it was really good value. If we had paid the full price, I would not have been so happy. As others say the food is very good and the female staff are charming. The 2 male staff criticised elsewhere are actually very helpful but lack people skills so come across badly. The hotel could do with updating but, as you would expect in Austria, is very clean. It lacked the personal touch as the owners seemed absent. Soll is a charming village but rather quiet even for oldies like ourselves! We hired a car which was invaluable. All in all a lovely holiday even if we did forget the Scrabble!"

Lovely Hotel, great food but grumpiest man ever on reception
"The hotel is very nice, very clean and well looked after. We were half board on a ski trip and the food was excellent. Breakfast had choices of cereals, toast, breads, fruit, juice, ham, cheese etc and dinners were 4 courses and great quality. However, the cheapest bottle of wine that they serve is â¬25 and they charge â¬4.20 for 3/4 litre of water and will not bring tap water to the table. The man on reception was the grumpiest person i have ever met. The hotel is a 5 minute walk out of town which is fine. The hotel has a bar, sauna, steam room and a whirlpool bath which is â¬8 for 10 mins and was described to me as "Violent"!!! The ski bus stops outside the door and drops you to the gondola. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again."

Great food, great people
"We arrived at the Hotel Tyrol after a transfer of around 2 hours from the airport in Salzburg. It did not feel that long though as the beautiful senery makes the trip feel much quicker! On arrival we had to fill in a form to give some personal details, not sure why they were needed as it held up the process of booking in a bit. My partner and I were given a room in what they called the annex, this was a building just over the road opposite the main hotel. The room was not that modern but warm, clean and comfortable only a couple of things could be made better such as spare pillows in the rooms away from the main block, a shower in the bath which could be hooked high for use as a normal shower and a few english channels on the t.v. The food was delicious and plentiful and the waiting staff were more than happy to help. You definitely wont be going hungry! The ski lift is a short fifteen minute walk away through a picturesque village or you can catch the free bus which stops outside the hotel. Overall I would like to reccomend the Hotel Tyrol for its friendly attmosphere, great food, pleasent rooms and fab location."
