St. Maarten/Saint-Martin is located in the Caribbean and is just under 200 miles from Puerto Rico. This beautiful island is divided in two and has a combined population of just 85,000 people. Philipsburg, the Dutch half, has a population of 50,000. Marigot, the French half, has a population of 35,000. Whether your preference is Dutch or French, both sides of the island offer the traveler exceptional food for all budgets and a wide variety of resorts, villas, and other accommodations.
For transportation, visitors can rent a car or, for the more adventurous, a 4-wheeler to explore those sights off the beaten path. Because St. Maarten has been well-discovered by tourists, traffic can be a bit daunting.
Visitors to the island often engage in reduced-price shopping for premium brands. All shopping is duty free and many leading designers have shops, providing a lovely destination for those seeking deals.
Saint-Martin uses the Euro and St. Maarten the Netherlands Antillean guilder.
