"I wanted to share my letter I have to the PP management when we left, some of you may have seen this on Trip advisor. I am really fussy( ask my OH) we are returning to PP on 29/12 for our 4th visit we love it so much

'Imagine there's no heaven' - John Lennon once said

Well imagine that your holiday in heaven is being met in a private reception with a glass of champagne and a lovely cooling towel. Then imagine a friendly butler takes you on a buggy to your room. The door opens and you are in an air conditioned room with a king size bed,a desk/dressing table, a unit with coffee maker, your own glasses - all sizes and a fridge stocked with water, soft drinks and beer. You can choose which spirits you would like in your room (all included). there is a big flat screen TVs with a lovely relaxing seating area.you have a private balcony with table and chairs and a Balinese bed.there is a walk in wardrobe with double mirrors, hangers for 2 people, drawers and a safe.

Behind and at each side of your bed there are doors to your bathroom - shower.his and hers basins and a huge Jacuzzi bath. As if that's not enough there is another door leading to an outside shower with a huge rainfall shower head.

If you want a special bath run for you, then arrange a time and the butler will do this for you.

You can book spa treatments through the butler with a 20% discount for premium guests

Amazing laundry service. Fresh sheets and towels every day.

The swimming pool is amazing with wooden loungers and plenty of shade. The pool bar cocktails are to die for and lunch is fabulous. At the Sid of the pool is a well equipped gym, with personal trainer.

All meals are a la carts and the food and service is amazing.

All of the above makes for a fabulous holiday but what makes this heaven are the staff. Nothing is too much trouble.EVERYONE is happy to help and their smiles and welcoming behaviour I'd genuine. They care about you.

The only complaint is that there is nothing to complain about!!

This holiday made us forget out stressful UK jobs within seconds of arriving.

We are leaving relaxed, happy and chilled.

Thank you to Ellie and her team at Playa Pesquero Premium - This holiday was heaven."

"First and foremost, I'm really surprised people can class Playa Pesquero as Butlins? Or worse even... its the Caribbean for goodness sake!! Your going to get animals.. creepy crawlies .. rain... and what ever other nonsense people was talking about.
Cuba is a wonderful beautiful county, the people/staff at Playa Pesquero was friendly and can not do enough for you. The food was amazing , so much to choose from and 24 hrs a day, right by the beach. The beach is huge, a nice long walk along the shore is nice, crystal blue waters pure white sand. I could go on.. Needless too say great experience and best 5 star hotel in Holguin :) "

"Stayed at this hotel between October 14th to 28th 2014. It is a lovely hotel staff very friendly but the food was not that good. When we went for lunch and dinner there was never any fresh tomatoes it was also very rare we had any cucumber, lettuce, or fresh onions. On one day they even run out of bananas in the Caribbean. In some of the toilets you had to use toilet paper to wipe your hands, hand driers hanging off the walls. Floors around the pool could do with a good tidy up, my wife likes to drink Martini they even run out of that. This was the quiet time to go what's it going to be like in the high season December to May, I would rate this hotel as a 3 star."

"We have just returned from this resort {June 13th} and have traveled to many other resorts in Cuba and the Caribbean. This resort is large over 900 rooms and we had accommodation in Bungalow 52. About a five minute walk to beach pools and main lobby.
Room was clean , Quiet, linen changed frequently plus towels. Bottled water provided daily. Don't drink or brush teeth with tap water. Maid and all staff were great. We had a ground floor room with a small patio but it was very difficult to lock and so we didn't use . Safe was free { use it} TV, old, fuzzy reception, coffee maker did not work and we had crabs in the room . We discovered the door had a two inches gap and so we stuffed the bottom of door with towels and no further crabs.
There is a golf cart shuttle if you need a ride just phone the front desk. The entertainment was quite good a different show each evening around 9 30pm.
Specialty coffees are available in the lobby at the Coffee Coach I think they are open 24 hrs.
The thing that lets this resort down is the poor food handling. Birds and hoards of flies can be seen on the open food , desserts are not covered and not refrigerated. We were sick on the third day with the runs and we had not eaten any desserts only cooked food which I suspect was re heated . No fancy drinks and only bottled water . We consumed nothing outside the resort. We are still sick and have to take antibiotics.
Anyone with a compromised immune system and those with young children should stay away from this resort. I have contacted the manager with my concerns and suggestions for improved food handling but have had no reply. We will continue to vacation in Cuba but never again at this resort.

"Awful place far too busy too many young babies as described In another review worse than Butlins. Had to get up before 7am to get a decent sun lounger by the pool otherwise these were none or the ones left were broken. The beach was as bed we got down there one day at 9.30 and couldn't find anywhere to put a lounger to get shade also there are no mattresses on the beds on the beach which made for an uncomfortable few hours. We also both had tummy upsets after eating at the Caribbean restaurant. Lots of walking between restaurants, rooms, pool and beach - make sure you have everything for the day. Yes the staff want tipping and I even had one of the security guards hand me something he had made from Palm leaves and stand there waiting for a tip. The Hotel is very tired and needs a could spruce up. Goodness knows how they are going to cope when the new VIP area is complete as we had to queue for everything, coffees, breakfast, lunch and dinner the hotel was full and at the moment takes 2000 people. Would not go back much preferred Varadero."

"Booked three weeks with Thomson for our wedding. Picked this hotel as there was a creche for our baby. As a stay at home mum I was looking to spending a few hours each day child free to enjoy honeymoon :-) travel agent even advised cost of creche was inc in the all inclusive package.
But when we got there creche was unsafe and dirty, located outside next to pool. Locks on gates broken or not used, no security, few dirty broken toys and an old TV playing Spanish cartoons!
Won't leave my dog in there let alone my baby.
Spent honeymoon with grumpy toddler 24/7
We were in block 48, near the building work that Thomson also forgot to tell us was happening. Hotel is expanding, they work till gone 10pm each night building the 300+ rooms they hope to have completed by Oct 2014. Very romantic.
Thanks Thomson/First Choice for taking my money then not giving a **** when I complain, you ruined my special day."

"We stayed in Playa Pesquero in September 2011 for 2 weeks. We found this an ideal place to relax unwind, and explore, after working hard all year. We loved the jeep safari which involved being invited into a farmers home, being shown around not only their home, but the farm, we saw the animals, and were invited for drinks and food. The farmer and his wife were lovely, and made everyone welcome. We then visited a site were the indians lived many years ago, and the people who did the tour were really funny and made the day exciting, we then had lunch. Our guide was a lovely man, and made our day worthwhile. The trip on the catermaran was awful, but we'll not do it again. Food was lovely all the 2 weeks stay, our rooms were cleaned daily, and our maid coulod not do enough for us. We were treated well in all areas of the bars, and staff were helpfull all the time. We are going back next year, and we do not usually return anywhere, but said we would go here again. So roll on 2012"

Wedding nightmare

"We chose this resort because of it's beauty and overall good reviews. We were also impressed with the cost and included wedding package if we had 20 people attending. 10 days before we were to fly out we received an email fro the staff indicating that we would have to pay an additional $1000 because one of the guests was a child. Given today's economy and that $1000 isn't easy to come by in most families we were horrified that with such short notice we would be required to shell out even more money. They didn't even consider that not only the wedding couple was stating for 2 weeks but 2 other couples were as well. We felt this to be underhanded and if given more notice we could have either picked another resort or budgeted the extra expense. This review if for the staff only as the resort itself is great."

"The whole place felt a bit run down, there was plenty of food but the quality was variable. Its a big complex so you may have a long walk to dinner/lobby/beach. We were a party of four and we all had tummy upsets and watch out for bitting insects use plenty of repelant. The entertainment was well below standard for what is claimed to be a 5 star hotel (more like 3ish) It was November and the weather was a bit hit and miss with rain most days. The local drinks were an aquired taste but if you tipped well enough you got branded stuff (but not every time). We will not be going back there."

Playa Pesquero, going again....

"We stayed at Playa Pesquero for 2 weeks at the beginning of December 2009. We have been holidaying around europe and lately, the carribean for 25 years and we have never gone to the same hotel twice, in fact we would hardly go to the same Greek island twice. BUT WE ARE COMING BACK TO PLAYA PESQUERO! Can't wait for October to arrive. we all 4 agreed that this was the best holiday, (nicest people, beautiful beach, lovely complex)we had been on.

A couple of the A La Cartes were not great, but hey book early and if you don't enjoy the meal go get a snack in the buffet. Remember where you are, the Cuban people do not get to eat this well.

the beach is stunning and the lovely man there will find you a spot with shade. whilst there use the facilities, the hobycat sail is fab, expect to get soaked - he'll go a fast as you are happy with.

I do not understand the negative attitude regarding tipping, we did not tip every day, we tipped here and there as warranted but never felt pressured. we also took pens and pencils with as we were told children needed them for school. We found they need a lot more!

So this is were i go off tangent. This year we are taking more. i.e. pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, calculators (try to get solar, but if not get spare batteries), notebooks, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes. we won't pack our best holiday clothes but clothes and shoes we will be happy to leave behind. dig out your unused costume jewellery, watches, hats etc.

spare a thought for the people who you would not normally tip. i.e. give security a pack for the family they will appreciate it. also if you go out for the day take pens and pencils with you to give to children, they really do need it for school. you will be rewarded with the biggest smile.

We were a bit embarrassed a the thought of giving things away, don't be, just make up packs as appropriate.

just think how light your back will be to go home!

Go to Cuba, chill out, learn a few spanish words, and you will have a great holiday. "

TOP QUALITY RESORT

"Just got back from getting married at pesquero and what a fantastic experience. Staff were great, very attentive and hard working. food was very good, our fave restaurant being the Romantica where both the veal and lobster are recommended. Change a few english quid up on the day you arrive, as you'll need 25 CUC each for departure tax at the airport, but if you do that on day one and put it in your safety deposit box in your room then it's one less thing to concern yourself with, but also have a few pesos ready for tips as wages are low in cuba and tips are well received. The beach is very good, the entertainment on a night is also good and the family feel of the place makes everyone feel welcome. Take the opportunity to swim with dolphins on a day trip as this excursion was quality. There are buggies to ferry you around the resort. The Beer Garden is a minutes walk from the beach, serves nice snacks like shrimps on a stick or sausages with mustard or tuna tapanade, plus the beer (Bucanero) at 5.2% is surprisingly smooth and tasty. From the beer garden the pool is a mere thirty second stroll through the small boulevard of shops (selling bottles of good rum at just 6 pesos! (excellent to add to the cola you find restocked daily in your minibar). The only downsides for us mainly emanated from tourists and not the hotel or its staff. The condition of several of the poolside toilets were atrocious, my wife could not use them on several occasions and lets just say i was glad to have footwear on when i visited the gents. Also the families were great, but several families together made small gangs and the volume levels rise with such groups. Not a problem in itself, but several drunken east london youths could not complete a sentence without using a swear word. This in front of kids to me is a no no. And i'm talking 10am around the pool here not in a bar at night! The weather was scorching and several people who sun worshipped on the beach came back intensely tanned. The seafood restaurant on the beach is lovely and great service. The asian tried but fell short of its rivals. Gondola very tasty food. Yarayal (or Grill) had plenty to offer and was nice. La Trattoria nice breakfast and lunch (closes 5pm). Romantica superb food and service. Our wedding day was incredible, photographer did a great job, horse and carriage a nice touch and food fantastic, bed dressed down on a night was also a nice touch and the wedding breakfast cooked in your room was a brilliant touch. If you're thinking of getting married here, do it. If you're thinking of holidaying here, do it. The place is sensational. Tip: Vino lover? Pack a couple of bottles wrapped in your towels as the shop does sell wine but at 19 pesos/£14-15 its not cheap whereas the rum is astonishing value. The only reason i mention the wine is sometimes with a young un, its nice to go back to your room and chill on your balcony with a glass of the good stuff. Hope this helps. (oh and as has already been mentioned, moreso than tips, if you can leave razors/toiletries/cosmetics/medicines/t-shirts, these are greatly received by staff) Enjoy!"
