Jumby Bay = Paradise
"Jumby Bay was truly paradise on earth. MY wife and I recently returned from our honeymoon--we spent 8 days/7 nights in an oceanview courtyard suite with an indoor/outdoor shower. The room was amazing and the twice daily room service kept everything in order--including the stocked mini-bar. Every night, the staff would light candles and put soft music on the cd player--what a nice thing to have in your room at the end of a long, restful day. The service was top notch and the restaurants were definitely first class. The staff was there to please--they even provided us with a bottle of champagne to take back to our room. We can't say enough about how good the food was at every meal. Even if something wasn't on the menu, the chef was willing and able to prepare whatever our hearts desired. As in other reviews, do not pass up the opportunity to have a picnic on pasture beach. a beautiful beach with private hammocks and wonderful surf. Also, do not miss the snorkeling trip to nearby Bird Island--an amazing experience. My wife and I also had the opportunity to see giant hawksbill sea turtles laying eggs on Pasture Beach on two consecutive nights--another amazing experience. All that being said, the best part about Jumby Bay is that it is pure relaxation! The beach is pristine and the staff is ever present to give you sorbet or the drink of your choice. I can't emphasize enough how attentive the staff was--they never forgot our names and they were prepared to help us with everything. While in Jumby Bay make sure you avail yourself of some in-room massages too. Truly first-rate! Overall, Jumby Bay was a marvelous experience. Some negative reviews speak of construction noise and/or airplane noise. No matter where you are on Antigua, you could be subjected to airplane noise depending on their landing/takeoff routes. My wife and I only noticed the airplane noise on one or two occassions. As for the construction noise, it was nonexistent! Jumby Bay is a wonderful resort--my wife and I have never been so relaxed, so pampered and so amazed! We are looking forward to going back to Jumby Bay again!"

The Truth About Jumby Bay
"Here is the truth about Jumby Bay. If you have a complaint about Jumby Bay then you will never be happy anywhere. There is nothing to complain about, no downside, nothing. It is a first class top of the line resort and nothing in the area comes close. A bit pricey but DEFINATELY well worth it. I just got back from my honeymoon and my wife & I will definitely return. The food, staff, accommodations, beach, and all activities available are outstanding. You are waited on hand and foot, the food is the best in the Caribbean and there is plenty of choices to select from. If your looking for nightlife and partying this is not the place for you. Jumby Bay is for those who want to sit back and relax in peace and quiet enjoy the finest foods and be pampered. We had the unique opportunity of staying in 2 different rooms. Both were excellent and it was hard to choose which was better. If I had to really choose I would get the suite with the indoor/outdoor shower. That was real nice treat. I definitely recommend the picnic on Pasture Beach, that beach is gorgeous and deserted. You are lucky to see 3 people there all day. This place is paradise and we the opportunity to share the resort with a few famous NFL and NBA athletes. All in all this was the absolute best vacation we ever had and I highly recommend anyone visiting the Caribbean to pass up every other resort and head to Jumby Bay."

It is a building site, NOT a Paradise
"If you want to receive poor service, listening to noise from planes and building works on the island for money you paying - go to Jumby Bay. Some people who rated this resort as excellent probably haven't seen anything better!!!! We had to wait 1 hour and 40 minutes for the main course and I am not saying about waiting for a water or vine for 20-30 minutes !! Every morning we were woken up by the noise of building works going on near by in the resort. We tried to find a quiet place on the island but building works were everywhere, in different parts of the island, so we could see huge trucks, diggers and ... One morning we even saw digger on the beach!!! We also had a "pleasure" of listening noise of planes taking off and landing to the VC airport. Concierge Ursulita managed to get things wrong not ones but several times. I was just amazed by the attitude and very POOR costomer service. So guys if you want all these - go there and good luck to you!!!"

It don't get any better!
"This resort has all of the places in the Caribbean beat hands down. Just remember its the Caribbean and accept the tiny flaws inherent to this area of the world. Jumby Bay has the least of any of them. Its fabulous and difinitely worth returning over and over."

Don't miss out on Paradise
"Recently stayed at Jumby Bay for 5 nights with my husband. I can't say enough great things about it. The service was impeccable, the food was great, and the rooms....ooh la la. We stayed in a courtyard suite that included an indoor shower and an outdoor bathtub and shower. Heaven on earth. The beach was perfect, and the pool was also beautiful. This private island retreat is most romantic and the staff has thought of just about everything: from flower petals in the toilet at turndown to bikes for each guest to explore the island at their own leisure. Please don't miss having a private picnic lunch at Pasture Beach. We will be back next year."

"Just returned from a week of pure bliss at Jumby Bay. Rosewood Corp has got this one right. The rooms were very nice, with all of the emenities found in a Rosewood hotel. The rondivals were the size of a nice hotel room with an extra large bathroom an outside shower- plenty of room for my wife and I. We moved mid week to a courtyard suite and found it almost too big. The service was excellent- twice daily maid and ice service. Bar service was available all day. The food was a good as we have had in the Caribbean. This resort is for relaxation only. Do not go if you seek nightlife- after dinner drinks was the extent. Make sure you have the hotel bring you a picnic lunch at Pasture Beach. We had absolutely nothing about which to complain and highly recommend this resort for couples seeking quiet relaxation."

Depends on your expectations
"Again - like I said it depends on your expectations. We have traveled to many islands and have a certain expectation of rooms, services and food. I certainly agree it can be frustrating reading these reviews. We were checking the reviews constantly prior to our 2 week honeymoon. So I'm going to try and layout our experiences and let you know you should always take other peoples opinions for what they are - make your own. The rooms were wonderfully decorated. The beds were very comfortable even the pillows. There wasn't glass in the windows which would help with keeping the room cooler - but the atmosphere was perfect. We stayed in the Courtyard suite #27. Highly recommended for view. Service was spotty. When we first arrived our room wasn't ready but we had lunch and then we were whisked away to our room. We asked for Conch dishes that were never arranged. The concerige was very helpful only if you were arranging an excursion that they already had some kind of contract setup with the vendor - the taxi rates always changed from the person who was arranging the taxi. It was almost like they looked at you and decided what you could afford. To go to the same place on Monday was $30 US round trip and on Tuesday it was $50 US. What happened overnight? They do charge extra so if you can pre arrange your excursions you should attempt to save yourself some $$. They also forgot to inform us that if we went to the main land for casino night that we would be charge $75 US for the ferry ride they arranged to bring us back after 12 midnight. There was no night life we were in bed by 10PM each night. 2 weeks was a long time for the food menu. The food was good but 2 weeks later I couldn't wait to get home and eat something different. The desserts that others refer to were nothing to speak about. While we were there we did hear there was a flying roach in someone's dinner at the Estate house. The last thing that we found unusal was that we were invited to the manager's cocktail party twice and never were we introduced to the property manager. He didn't have time to find out who we were or if we were having a good time. He was very removed unless your name ended in Gates. I'm sure then the private property owners and the property manager would have made time to meet with us if we were Mr. & Mrs. Bill Gates. Again - go if you want - the place is nice enough, the workers/service help are friendly and the food is good for 1 week or less. However, if you are looking for a prettier island - Turks and Caicos and Barbuda come to mind. Thanks for your time."

Jumby Bay 5 star prices 2 star service
"The reviews from May2003 and Nov are the most accurate.Just back from 12 day stay this is a resort charging 5 star prices and offering 2 star service.Main criticism was excessively long waits (1hr plus) for food, waiters mixing up orders or forgetting them entirely.Concierges who had poor attitudes and managed to get things wrong every time you used them.No one answering phones erratic and spotty service in villas and seemingly no one in authority to complain to.I could fill two sides of A4 with a list of complaints-probably the worst "hotel" I have stayed at in 20 years.A pity as location is good ,food is good, some members of staff excellent....but the service ..oh dear."

Still some problems...villa's
"I have just returned from 10 days in Jumby Bay and have many pro's and cons. Although Rosewood manages this hotel, they do not have any say on much of the upkeep of the "villas" as they are privately owned. It went well beyond the excuse of "This is the Caribbean." Therefore, some are sadly lacking and need a definite retrofit, as ours did. Again though, Jumby Bay management cannot make the villa owners perforem well needed upkeep. Housekeeping was not good, and very inconsistent. If it was not one thing, it was the other, and calling to complain verbally and with written letters did no good. Missing towels, bathrobes, soap, washcloths, shampoo. One day it was there, the next day not, without an explanation. Hot water was a big issue in our villa. Half the time it was non existent, despite managementà s inappropriate response of " just let it run." Needless to say, Rosewood standards were non existent here. Beware of Villa' s 204-205. On the positive side, the food was fantastick. The menu range was extensive, not only at the buffet but also the estate house. Excellent presentation, display, taste, and always fresh. 5 stars all the way to the chefs and staff. The beach and all staff are wonderful and friendly, except perhaps KEM at the beach who was grumpy and difficult every day. Brand new ski boat made waterskiing a blast. Lastly, although Jumby Bay is fully inclusive, this is deceptive. You can order 20 rum punches or 20 glasses of wine in your room without a question, but take a bottle back to the room and you have to pay. Seems a little ridiculous and destroys the spontaneity of a glass of wine at sunset, especially since it takes 1â2 hour to arrive. Just doesn' t seem right for the money they charge."
