Price is too high. Maximum 3 stars!
"My family and I stayed at the Old Phuket Hotel 16 nights in June 2012. The hotel is not equivalent to 4 stars, maximum 3. Especially since there is nothing of 'boutique'. We have the impression that the hotel management is fully detached from customers and solving problems. In the luxury rooms there are no mosquito repellents. No general manager of the hotel which can solve serious problems. There are only a staff reception and client managers in blue shirts, which can only smile and nothing more. So if you have serious questions - do not expect that someone solves them. Be careful when signing checks, the hotel staff not very skilled, they can make a debit from your credit card not in Thai Baht, but with conversion to another currency, and you will lose money on the difference in rates. In addition there are cockroaches. We also saw a rat that ran in the evening from the lobby toward the parking lot. From the hotel to the sea quite a distance, and the beach
is dirty and neglected. Hotel needs renovation. Rusty plumbing. The rooms smell of the toilet. Hotel price is too high."

Friendly holiday hotel
"The hotel was very nice and perfect for what we wanted - a relaxing holiday by the beach! The room was comfortable and nicely decorated. The bathroom was a bit dark but came with everything you need inc the usual toiletries. We had a spa deluxe room so had a jacuzzi on our balcony which was great but we didn't really use it enough to warrant paying the extra. The location is ideal if you're looking to spend your time relaxing, close to a quiet part of the lovely Karon beach (less than 3 minutes walk â and we were able to swim everyday of the 11 days we were there), plenty of restaurants nearby to choose from in the evenings and away from the main road for a good night's sleep. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and spoke good English. The room service was also good value. Only complaint we had was the noise from the hotel PA system - our room was right by the stairs/lift and 'music' (the same 2 easy listening CDs looping over and over!!) was played from 8am to 11pm from a speaker right outside our door which was pretty annoying at times. But if you can get a room away from there I would highly recommend this hotel :-)"

"My wife and I had read many reviews through the site and took the above average rating on the the Old Phuket as a winner. We booked through the hotel direct and had great comfort in there responses via email contact and boy did the room live upto expectation. We had booked one of the ground floor deluxe jacuzzi / rainfall shower rooms. It was an amazing, clean and light room, with the outdorr jacuzzi a must when returning fom a stroll along the beach and the shower is a must if only we had the weather to match in London. The staff were very attentive from the moment we arrived and as they showed us to the room where we were greeted with a petal display of local flowers on the bed that was wonderful for my wife to see, sadly I could not take the credit.
The room was spacious and was cleaned regulary, breakfast was hot and cold food, with coffee and tea and juices a plenty.
The Old Phuket is in a great location about a 5 minute stroll along the beach so no hardhsiop there into town.
A beautiful place to stay."

Great place to relax
"Stayed in the hotel at the end of November & beginning of December 2006. We chose Karon Beach over Patong as we were after something a little quieter and with less of the 'loud' tourist type, and got it exactly right.
The hotel was really quiet, with big rooms and relatively new bathrooms. Had no problems with hot water, breakfast, electricity, air-con or any other services with the exception of the TV which kept breaking down while they were waiting for a replacement part. The staff were as helpful as they could be but a lot of them lacked knowledge in some basic tourist stuff - not a problem as there were plenty of travel agents around.
The breakfast was good with plenty of variety from eggs cooked to your liking, European, cooked English, and Asian.
My only complaint was that the pool didn't open until 9am and closed again at 7pm - no chance of getting around those hours as the doors are locked and the pool is on the third floor.
The good thing about the hotel's location was that it is on a private road with security guards at both ends (most of the time) which meant there was very little through traffic. the beach end of the street has a couple of minimarts, travel agents, internet cafe, tailors, handbag shop, bars, laundry service, plus a few restuarants. Most of the restuarants were either German or Scandanavian which reflects the clientel at the hotel. In fact I think we were the only ones at the hotel that weren't from continental Europe.
If you wanted to walk into Karon town then it was less than ten minutes or a short Tuk Tuk ride. There were a lot more things to do their - try the Vitaporn restuarant for some really good food.
In short the hotel is not a five star resort but if you are after quiet/comfortable rooms with a good level of service at a reasonable price then you wont be dissapointed."

Affordable, friendly staff, clean rooms
"I read the reviews of this hotel and thought it'll be a safe choice. It was a good choice.
WHen we arrived, we were greeted by the very warm staff at the hotel. We managed to get a very early check-in (10am instead of 3pm), probably cos it was off-peak season and the hotel was pretty quiet. Room was clean and i liked the decor. The hotel is located just 2mins from the beach, you can easily walk down.
considering the price i paid, i think the hotel was pretty good value. Breakfast wasn't much, but i didn't expect a feast. Typical American breakfast selection, food was cooked only when we ordered it. I thought food was a little bland though. On the day of our departure, we had to catch a really early flight out and the hotel prepared takeaway breakfast for us at 6am. Saved us lots of trouble.
Not a very fancy hotel, but good value for money if you ask me."

A Reliable Choice
"This was our second stay here in as many years and, once again, we were more than satisfied with this property. My wife and I always split our month or so in Phuket among different resorts according to quality and budget, subsidizing the higher end property with a moderate and/or budget choice. The Old Phuket was at the lower end of the price scale, yet with a good price/quality ratio. This year we booked via directrooms and by taking advantage of a "pay for 4 get 6 nights" promo ended up paying 958 THB per night for the simplest room, including breakfast. There are also spa rooms, with a jacuzzi on the balcony. Ground floor rooms are more elaborate and come in two differing configurations, one more luxurious than the other. These have become more attractive since the private road the hotel sits on has become closed to through traffic.
The hotel was far busier during our low season stay this year in May 2006, than the same period last year, due of course, to the 2004 tsunami. Still, it was never overcrowded, and we always managed to get a couple of the 16 or so poolside lounge chairs and breakfast seating was always wide open. The breakfast buffet was still being offered this year, whereas in the past during their quieter season they would provide only cooked to order selections. Breakfast selections are somewhat basic, but they cover all the bases ... hot and cold beverages, fruit, cereal, yogourt, breads, pastries, Thai, Western and cooked to order egg selections. You won't starve.
Our room was on the 4th (top) floor, large enough, with efficient A/C and a nice balcony that gave us a side view to the ocean. Furnishings were simple, yet in good repair and there were some fanciful decorating touches that served to add a bit of charm. An example of this was a valence hung on the wall overlooking the bed, as well as the curtained window that opened into the room from the bath. The heavy lined drapes by the glass patio door were quite effective in keeping out the light and heat ... important not only for late risers, but to keep the temperature down when you're away from your room with the key required to keep the electricity (and A/C) running. The mattress, although firm, provided a good night's rest and was very comfortable. The desk was a bit cluttered, as it also served as the TV's resting spot, but no one goes to Phuket to work, so not a problem. Television choices were quite good, with over 40 different channels from which to choose. Lighting in the room was more of the ambient type, so reading at night proves a bit of a challenge.
The mini bar fridge had a bit of available space with a freezer large enough for a couple of ice cube trays and perhaps a small tub of ice cream. Prices for room service and the mini bar were quite reasonable. The hotel uses nearby Chili's restaurant (which they own) for their room service meals and while prices and quality are good, portions are rather small.
The bathroom was of average size, and the counter and bath surround showed no signs of mould or mildew. I'm somewhat surprised, given the absence of ceramic wall tiles around the tub, that the plaster walls and wooden window frame haven't succumbed to deterioration caused by the shower's spray. I'll have to attribute it to good maintenance. The hotel's level of cleanliness is actually quite good.
The rooftop pool on a lower section of the building is quite attractive and provides scenic views to Karon beach and the hills to the interior. I imagine it gets pretty crowded during the high season, given the limited number of lounge chairs. My only negative comment concerns the umbrellas. There aren't enough of them and they're mostly torn. There's a small snack bar that provides drinks and light fare from the kitchen below via a dumbwaiter. Drink prices are higher than the room's mini bar, yet lower than room service. A shower, sauna and small gym area are located by the pool's entrance.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone not requiring a true resort. For those that don't mind a 5 minute stroll to the beach, or restaurants just adjacent, you really can't get much more bang for the buck at Karon."

Met our expectations....and more!!!
"My boyfriend & I were in Phuket recently. We stayed at the quieter & less popular beach, Karon. The island was great, worlds away from where we came from. Totally refreshing. Beaches & surrounding islands were gorgeous. Water was crystal clear, you can see fishes swimming right at the edge of the shore. People were friendly & always smiling. Food was delicious, cheap seafood & yummy Tom Yum. All those & so much more. Truly heaven on earth.
We put up at the Old Phuket Hotel throughout our 5 days, 4 nights trip. It's a beautiful Sino-Portugese building down a street lined with restaurants & shops, & is only about a few hundred meters away from Karon beach. We stayed in the deluxe spa room & it was clean, huge & beautiful. From our balcony, which has an outdoor jacuzzi, we got a great view of the beach & sunset on our left & on our right, we had a view of the lush, green hill. Staff were very hospitable & friendly. We both just celebrated our birthdays before we left for the trip so I arranged for the hotel to prepare a birthday cake & a bottle of wine in our room prior to our arrival to surprise my boyfriend. They were very accomodating & they were fast in responding to emails of my requests. The hotel totally exceeded our expectations in every way & we were really impressed. Really worth every cent spent. Kudos to Old Phuket Hotel!
In short, we totally enjoyed our trip & we recommend the Old Phuket Hotel to anyone who plans to head down to this Pearl of the Andaman. We both will definitely be back soon."

Loved the Old Phuket
"Me and my husband had a great time at our anniversary stay at the Old Phuket Hotel. We had a deluxe room(thru their packages on their website) and staff welcomes you with the warmest of smile, trying to make you most comfortable they possibly can, the breakfast is good enough, the decor of the hotel is nicely done, the location is just across the road to Karon beach, the rooftop swimming pool is fantastic.
It was great!!"

Quiet Comfortable and Friendly
"Alhtough I spent most of my time out of town from early morning till mid evenings, I was really looking forward to coming back to my comfortable clean room with excellent airconditioning.
I had a Double Room with Terrace.. my shower was outside through double doors from the en-suite bathroom. Definitely quite pleasant having your good fast running shower outside in the steaming tropical heat and then step back into your spacious bathroom with its own deep bath.
I had wanted a hotel which would not be surrounded by bars and night life ambling past. This hotel provided that. Nice staff. Good facilities.
My only thought for improvement would be later openning times for the swimming pool. As it was, I had always left the hotel before it openned and returned after it had closed.. so therefore.. never ever saw the Roof Top swimming pool.. which was one of the attractions to the hotel in the first place.
But that is perhaps more a problem with my own itinery than that of the hotels own timetabling.
Highly recommend if you want a quiet hotel location."

My Favourite Hotel In Thailand
"I had emailed the hotel previously to confirm booking and let them know it was my partners birthday and asked them to make sure that the room was nice for him. They had replied to say that they had a nice surprise for him, so I was looking forward to getting there! Once we had checked in, we were taken to our room, which wasn't just a room, it was our own private place. The hotel had upgraded us free of charge to their private jacuzzi room which had its own little pebble garden with a large outdoor jacuzzi, a massive contemporary room, a huge bathroom and another pebble garden at the back with an outdoor shower! We were delighted! A minute or two later, there was a knock and a beautifully decorated bithday cake was delivered complete with candles and my partners name on it.
The thoughtfulness and politeness of the staff at this hotel was unbelieveable. I could not fault anything here.
We stayed for 8 nights and had a fantastic, relaxing time.
The location was great, just across the road from the beautiful Karon beach. There were a few bars and restaurants close by. Taxis and Tuk-Tuks were available at the end of the road. The hotel is located halfway between the two shopping areas of Karon.
The swimming pool at the hotel was on the rooftop and it was great, never too crowded and there was a great spa jet area in the pool. There was a shaded area up there as well, and the hotel would arrange for Thai massage up there. It cost approx £6.00 for an hour. Breakfast was served each day from 06.30 to 10.30 and had a wide variety for all tastes.
If you are thinking of staying at Karon beach and would like a friendly, quiet, relaxing holiday then please try this hotel. I cannot rate it highly enough."

Nice quiet hotel on a great beach
"Spent Christmas and New Year at the old Phuket Hotel. Looks like one of the older hotels on Karon Beach, though the facilities were adequate. Restuarant at the hotel was a little basic, though they have a beachfront restuarant too which is nice.
The area and the hotel itself seems to be favoured by Scandanavians, and there were lots of Scandanavian restuarants around which was a bit different.
Room very nice with a 4 poster bed, and we also had a jaccuzzi on the balcony, as it was not quite private enough
The only think in my opinion that let it down was a compulsory New Years eve meal, which was nothing spectacular considering the amount of fresh seafood on the island.
Karon beach itself is very quiet, and if you want some night life Patong beach is only a short taxi ride away. There are also less jet-skis etc on Karon beach making it more pleasant."
