10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
Sucked. How's that for a review?
"This review is a bit dated. Almost a year to be exact. I'm a regular poster but for some reason this one slipped by me. The rooms, while cool that they're up in the hills and on stilts, are WAY over-priced, under-serviced and a bit dodgy. The people who run the place are total morons and could care less about guest services. AVOID THIS PLACE. But don't take my word for it, go and read the other reviews. Happy Holidaying. scott"

not value for money, but great location
"The beach resort offers very poor value for money with non-existent service for the hefty 3,500 baht we paid for a seaview bungalow. The bungalows were simple and clean and perfectly fine, but the bathrooms needed an overhawl for that price. However, it was nice to be set a ittle back from the beach and with a view that so ,mnay of the other bungalow operations lacked. The hotel's evening entertainment was a bit annoying, with cheesy music blaring until midnight. There was a very sweet litlle bar just a little further down long beach which offered a good alternative to the hotel's. The location was great though and the scenery of phi phi island is stupendous with limestone cliffs plunging into the crystalline waters. Highly recommend the destination, and the hotel would be fine if it charged less steep prices."

Cut the evening 'entertainment'
"We booked our 4 night stay here through Sun Smile Tours. They are based on the right hand side as you walk up the jetty and into Ton Sai upon arrival in Phi Phi. They were very helpful and contacted the resort on our behalf. The price was the same as if we had booked direct. We paid 3500 baht per night for a beachfront bungalow excluding breakfast. When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff and given a drink and a cold towel. The bungalow was a little tired inside but was perfectly clean and the bed (2 made up as 1) was perfectly comfortable. We would have liked more electrical sockets. Yes, it is up a hill, but we didn't find it that bad. Beach towels are provided. Our main complaints with the accommodation were the fact that there was quite a bit of noise from the building of new bungalows on the hill behind. These are owned by the Beach resort and looked very impressive. I expect they will be pretty nice when completed. Our other complaint was the evening entertainment. The fire dances were OK but they used the same music each night and this got repetitive. Also, the music they played on the beach by day got repetitive. The worse thing, however, was the night time music. We would have preferred to appreciate the natural sound of the sea and insects, but this was drowned out by their 'entertainment' which was pretty bad and too loud. It also went on too late. Long beach itself is OK and the reef off the shore was good. However, you can't walk up the beach easily due to the ropes of the long tails and the sand becomes coarse half way along. The best thing about the location is a beach over the other side which can be reached by walking up the road behind the bungalows. The walk takes about 10 minutes and the other beach is quiet with monkeys who come down to it in the afternoon. The sea does go out quite far at low tide, but it makes for an interesting walk. We ate at the resort once and the food was fine albeit a bit overpriced. We thought the best food for breakfast and dinner was to be found at PP Paradise. They even did a great Pizza."

"Words can not describe how disappointed I was with this hotel. The rooms are basic and run down, the staff have no idea how to run the place and are very rude and unhelpful. We couldn't get served drinks because the fridge was locked and nobody knew where the key was!! To make matters worse there was loud construction noise until 10 pm. Large piles of dirty dishes were left out in full view overnight. At breakfast a cat went around licking dishes on the neighbouring dining tables that remained to be cleared while staff idly watched on. This was one of the more expensive places that we stayed during a 3 week holiday in thailand and it was by far worst."

Terrible DON'T GO!!!!
"the resort is overpriced. terrible rooms, NO telephone in rooms so you need to climb up and down the mountain for each thing, also NO SATTELITE TV, one thai channel if lucky. incompetent staff at reception and horrible service. can stay at much better places for less. this was WORST hotel ever and the most expensive. DO NOT GO THERE!!! Save your money and your vacation!!!!!!!!!!"

Some definite problems here.....
"The Good: - Excellent snorkeling right out front....but you have to go early (before 9:00 a.m.) before the day-trippers arrive....and you have to avoid the longtail boats going back and forth which is a little unnerving......look for the black trip reef sharks!!!!! - Decent made to order breakfast included in rate. - Enjoyed the fire show at night. - Found a great reasonably priced restaurant short walk down the beach in front of Paradise Pearl Bungalows. Good food. The Bad: - The A/C is not powerful enough to cool the room during the day when the sun is full force....it gets hot in room. - No face washcloths here.....have to use a big hand towel to wash with or bring your own washcloths. - Lots of stairs to climb to get to bungalow.....if you're not in shape for this, then you're in trouble. - Longtail taxi boats to and from town are fixed price and are a bit expensive if you want to go back and forth a lot. - Small pool. The Ugly: - Very overpriced for drinks at bar and dinner.....horrible-looking buffet offered.....didn't even try after looking at it. - The day-trippers come in full force to eat lunch buffet at resort and use the grounds, swimming.....gets really crowded.....and it's too bad about that. - Okay the bathroom was disgusting! No separate shower stall...just a curtain to separate toilet and shower and water would run over towards the toilet and it was just a down-right weird set up....small sink, weird shower head......they need to remodel this! (The rest of the room was okay). - Absolutely no sunbeds around the pool or at the beach.....so you have to lie on the sand.....you'll need to bring something to lie on."

The Bates Motel.... Thai Version
"This hotel was horrible! It was double the price of almost all of the 5* resorts in which we stayed throughout Thailand. The room was the greatest downfall. First off, it is a 5 minute hike straight up hill. I thought this would be cool, as there would be a view that would be worth the hike. Unfortunately, to no fault of the hotel, the haze was so heavy, we couldn't see much further than the waters edge. Upon entering the room, we noticed that the place was run down. Horribly run down. The urethane or enamel on the flooring was chipping up everywhere on the floor. Sat TV with 1 local channel. Sketchy '30 year old great grandma's house' style curtains. A crappy bed made up of 2 small beds pushed together. Old linens. Dingy old towels. The bathroom was disgusting and tired. Red ants in the toilet paper holder and throughout the roll. Grout in the shower all grungy. The worst ofit all..... the water from the tap and shower was BROWN. Yes.... BROWN. I figured.... "ah, we're on an island.... I'll let it run". Um, no! Still brown. For the lengthy 3 day stay, or at least it felt lengthy, we opted to not take a shower.... ONCE! Do you know what that makes your hair feel like after 3 days of salt water swimming. Instead, we washed our hair with bottled water we purchased. I enjoy camping, and this grossed even me out. Speaking of camping.... that is what this place feels like. It feels like a crappy old log cabin tucked away from civilization. If I got this in the middle of the woods, I wouldn't be all surprised, but for the money we paid, we could have stayed at the Holiday Inn on the north end of the island which looks stunning. I know.... Holiday Inn seems a little too commercial? Well, it better than the freakin Bates Motel on Phi Phi Island. The pool, I could literally dive and touch the other side as I hit the water. It is laughable. All of us jumping out of the longtail had a chuckle at it as we walked by. The restaurant.... well, we ate breakfast each day at the west end of long beach. You can't miss it, as it is the only good/busy place on the beach. We had snacks at the hotel once, and it tasted like Thai food done by someone who has never been to Thailand. The beach.... well, this place suffers horrible tides. The first day we got there, the longtail took 15 minutes to navigate the last 200 feet to the sand. We, as excited new comers to the island, immediately (after being grossed out by the room) got changed, ran down to the water, and submerged ourselves in the amazingly blue water at a depth of 18"!!! If the tide is out, you definitely won't be swimming at long beach! You will be sitting. We laughed about this and thought..."well, at least it's a story". Bottom line. Avoid this place like you would the plague! The island is beautiful. Cool little town. Great sights. Just stay away from this place! PS - Our trip was in November. They were constructing another place directly beside the resort. I imagine that place will suck just as much as this one did. Also, I didn't take pictures, but if I did, they wouldn't do this place justice!"

rip off don't stay!!!!
"This " resort" is a complete rip off. It was the WORST hotel we stayed in on our entire thailand/singapore trip yet cost as much as some stunning 4 star resorts. First off on arrival there was mix up with room, we had booked tripple but told on arrival that only had doubles... after dealing with incompetant staff at reception for over half an hr we had to then pay extra for rickety bed, more specifically springbox. The bungalow was supposed to have telephones in room but didn't so everytime needed something from reception had to walk down a steep mountain. the 'sattelite tv' had only 1 channel and that was thai. the bathroom was tiny and DISGUSTING with broken shower and shower basically over toilet. Never enough towels given and always had to beg, twice never received as told they had run out of towels and had to share towels!! breakfast a disgrace...were told we had a choice of continental, asain or english but if chose latter two you are presented with an additional bill. when you do eventually recieve your continental breakfast (took 45 mins each day) you get given half glass fruit juice, a banana and stale roll. location also terrible as nothing on long beach so need to get long tail every day into town to get meals as NOTHING near resort.these boats are not that cheap either as you have to pay for both trips there and back. in short stay away!!!! phi phi hotel million times better, central location and half the price"

The Beach Resort, Long Beach
"We booked into the Beach Resort, which is more expensive than many on the island, only to find it very much underconstruction. The noise starts from 7am to 6pm and wakes you up. Also the pool is tiny and dirty. When it is finished (I estimate March 07) it will be a nice place to stay as the huts themselves are nice (although not as luxurious as expected) but there should be a discount while work is carried out. Phi Phi seems more expensive generally hence why they can charge THB 3500, otherwise it would seem a lot to pay."
