20 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
The deck loungers and views from our deck were amazing
"Booked online and after reading other reviews. Also liked the idea of being on a hill with (hopefully) great views and away from the main town area for the quiet. Had read stories of a long uphill climb with heavy bags - but ours were carried both ways. The view was amazing and the mini bar prices excellend - not even worth lugging the beer up from the local shops as the mini bar prices were better! Only stayed two nights but wish we had booked for longer."

Not bad but could improve some areas
"We booked though the Adventure Club, and got a good price for the room and some diving, with transfers from Phuket airport by car and ferry. Everything went very smoothly, we got to the main pier on Tonsai bay, and found the hotel representative. He checked us off on a list, organised our luggage and ourselves onto a boat, and we quickly crossed the bay to the hotel. (You can also easily walk between the resort and the main part of the town in ~10 mins).
We had to wade from the boat to the resort beach (no pier), and our luggage was carried over by some strong men. Check-in was fast and efficient, with a cooling drink provided. Then it was off to the room - the bungalows are all up the hill on stilts - not ideal if you are disabled or can't walk easily, and certainly keeps you fit trekking up and down the hill. Again, the luggage was taken for us. The bungalows are fine, but looking a bit dated. A lick of paint wouldn't go amiss. However, the views are lovely and the resort is pretty quiet, being away from the main drag.
Big room, clean, nice balconies. Comfortable bed, air-con worked well. Furniture battered and showing its age. Nice to have a safe in the room. Bathroom very dated but clean. Hot water only if you put the air-con on for 30 mins first - slightly odd. No plug for the sink. Rooms cleaned daily, pretty flower arrangements made on the bed, usual stuff. Free drinking water provided in minibar, along with payable items including coke, sprite, beer, kitkats etc. There was a TV, although we never even switched it on.
The resort has wi-fi, at a cost of 100 Baht per hour, but you need your own laptop, there are no public computers (although the main town is full of internet cafes). Breakfast is provided in the Kinnaree restaurant next door, and was pretty good, with a nice slection of hot and cold foods, fresh juices and an egg station for omelettes etc. We also ate here one evening, on the beach, and had really good food, although not cheap. There is a swimming pool on the other side of the resort at the sister resort Arayaburi. The beach is OK, but needs a bit of a tidy. There is a massage place on site, and in theory there is also a dive school, but we never saw anyone there (we did our diving with the Adventure Club in town, which was excellent, highly recommended).
On departure, the hotel organises boats back to the main pier at times which coincide with the Phuket and Krabi ferries.
Overall, it was nice for a few days, but I've stayed in better resorts - this was about UK 3-star, and really needed a bit of updating and tidying."

Fab overnight trip on Phi Phi!
"Rather than a day trip to Phi Phi, I decided to book an overnight stay as it wasn't too much more cost-wise. I booked it a day in advance - the hotel were well prepared for us and we had a fab time. It is situated at the end of the beach of Ton Sai Bay and was very, very quiet. It is beach front with beautiful views of Phi Phi Lei - the views are incredible. The rooms are little beach bungalows with simple but charming dark wood, traditional furniture. They are in the hillside so there are steps and slopes and the trees, which some complain obscure the views, only add to the atmosphere. I booked two rooms and the views - even from the toilet - were stunning. The main strip of shops and restaurants is in easy walking distance (even with two kids aged 5 and 6) as is the equally stunning Monkey Beach on the other side. We loved every second of our stay; Phi Phi is gorgeous (we were in the 'off' season so we were lucky - I might not like it busier); the weather was beautiful, the staff were friendly. One down side was the restaurant; it offered a wide choice but the food and drinks were considerably more expensive than anywhere else we stayed in Thailand - and we did some pretty remote islands compared to this (however, breakfast buffet was excellent and included in the cost). Solution - eat elsewhere - there are plenty of places, even in the off-season. Would recommend!"

Paradise location, OK room
"My friends and me had a good stay on the Phi Phi Islands! We wanted to stay in a nice place and this was one of the cheaper ones on the Island. A bit more expensive then on the main land, but you'll get a location that is like paradise! Our small house was nice to stay in, with a small veranda, an ok bathroom and good beds. When we arrived by ferry on the island, we were taken on a longtail boat to the beach for free, and some small but very strong Thai guys carried our heavy backpacks up the hill. They brought it down when we checked out and took us on a free longtail boat to the pier, so the service is very good! The restaurant is quiet expensive, so we decided to eat somewhere else (breakfirst was free and not to bad). Ofcourse it's a bit more expensive then let's say Krabi, but still affordable if you calculate it back to dollars/euros/whatever. From here we booked some nice tours, people can speak English ok and helpful. The beach is perfect, so our stay was a big success!"

High performance cost
"The furthest hotel in Ton Sai Bay. All blockhouses wonderful for honeymoon. Sea view blocked by trees. People can see into the room while passing by. Seems no room service."

Great Location and some of the best views....
"I have stayed here twice, and am planning to come back later this year and stay here again.
I thought that the individual stilted bungalows were really fitting in their environment and for a 2/3 star hotel, excellent value for money. The first time I came here, we went from Phi Phi to the Centara Grand in Krabi (a 7 star hotel) and every night that I was in this luxurious hotel I wanted to be back in the Bay View, Phi Phi. That hoepfully says alot...."

Great service, excellent location and bungalows
"Stayed off peak, found hotel staff to be very very helpful, including room service helping me out at 4am! Good included breakfast, great views of the sea and Maya bay and a superb private beach. Close enough to walk to the main town but it is quite, would recommend!"

"We stayed there with the family for only a 3 days. On arrival we got a little bit upset as the transfer by boat from the pier to the hotel did not work very well. We had to wait more than 40 min and had to arrange our own transfer then. When confronting the front office manager (?) the only comment was that they had been to busy. No excuse or offer to take over the costs which is normal in Thailand. Mistakes will hardly be accepted.
The resort in general is nice. We had a nice bungalow overlooking the bay. Very beautiful. As it is located on the hill you have to be prepared to walk up to it to get to your bungalow. Room was spacious and all the other staff very friendly and very helpful. Resort is located at the end of the Laem Hin Beach which is ok but better take a stroll or longtail boat to Long Beach. In the evening within 10 mins you can walk into the main part of Phi Phi with all the restaurants and shops.
Disappointed about "The Beach". Too many people there when we passed with the ferry. So did not go."

Best Position & Value For Money
"I was really concerned about this resort after reading all the negative reviews about it, but I needn't have worried.
It is rated as a 2 star resort but I have stayed in quite a few 3 & 4 star resorts & this was just as good if not better.
I think that out of all the other resorts located in Tonsai Bay that the Bay View is set in the best position. It is in a quiet location at the end of Tonsai Bay with the bungalows positioned on a hill to take in the fantastic views with Phi Phi Lay in the background. The resort is only a 5 minute walk along the beach to all the shops & restaurants.
Our bungalow (no. B103) was the second one in the first row which was really good because we didn't have far to walk, some of the others you had quite a long way to walk to & they wouldn't have had as great a view as we did.
Our deluxe room was quite large & so was the bathroom & shower.
In other reviews people complained that the water from the shower was salt water but I really didn't even notice it. Sometimes the toilet didn't flush properly but you just had to persevere & it would do the job (no pun intended!)
Our balcony was great with 2 padded sunlounges & 2 chairs & a table. Just wonderful watching the sun set in the evening sipping a cold Chang or Singa beer.
The resort pool was quite good, nothing flash but we used it quite a bit & there were never many people there, just a few cats which my daughter made friends with.
We dined twice at the resort restaurant at night , its set outside on the beach, very relaxing sitting outside under the stars. The food was good & quite reasonably priced. Breakfast was also good with a good variety of hot & cold food & your eggs cooked in front of you the way you like them.
We found the staff to be ok, not as friendly as our last resort in Krabi but still helpful.
So if you are planning to stay on Phi Phi Island in the Tonsai Bay area I think that you couldn't do much better than the Bay View. Just ask for a deluxe room, which isn't much dearer than the standard ones, & ask for one in the first row near to the reception area so that you don't have too far to walk to your room."

Great place to stay on Phi Phi
"A nice place to stay on Phi Phi Island, right at the end of the beach, away from the crowds. Accommodation is up a very steep hill, but situated amongst trees and very picturesque. Comfortable room and good breakfast."

You dont want room 214 or 215?
"I checked into the bay view resort from the 21/11/06 - 23/11/06. I booked a grand deluxe villa and after reading various reviews and seeing pictures on the internet me and my fiancé were looking forward to our stay here. We were met at ton sai pier by a employee who took us and various other guests to the hotel in a longtail boat. The scenery around the hotel is stunning and the beach fantastic at high tide but very rocky at low tide. Our room however did prove to be a bit of a let down!! Firstly we were given 2 single beds when we had booked a double. There was absolutely no privacy on the balcony as next doors room was only separated by a small rail. Upon closer inspection of the room I think it was actually a family villa split into 2 rooms as there was a door in the room that joined to the next room so as you can imagine you can hear every word your new neighbours are saying. And just when we thought things can't get any worse we realised housekeeping was located right beneath us so you have the maids banging around talking to each other and a phone ringing constantly which at times made me feel like I was in a office.
our room was 214 and the next room 215 so try and stay clear of these rooms. When we approached reception about a possible move we were told that the hotel was full and there was nothing they could do. So considering we had booked what we thought would be one of the best rooms in the hotel we feel we were let down! Infant if you choose to stay here book the cheaper rooms as they are detached and have a lot more privacy.
It is also worth mentioning that there was a lot of building work going on here in November?."
