A Dream Come True
"Our stay at Zazen Boutique was completely amazing. The staff treated us so well and looked after our every need. The food at zazen was the best on the island and we could not have asked for anything better. Zazen is such a peaceful place and it was a pleasure to be staying ther and we did not want to come home. We have just booked our stay with them again for next february for just under 3 weeks and we cant wait!!! There was so much to do on the island from tours to golf, to cooking lessons at zazen to lots of shopping!! There was so much to keep you busy but is was also the perfect place to just relax. It really was a truly wonderful holiday and we cant wait for our return in the new year. we hope you choose to visit as it really is a dream come true michelle & darren"

"Zazen is simply the place to stay if you are looking for a cozy resort with excellent service and tasty decorated rooms. The staff is friendly and the service is quick and efficient. The rooms are very stylish and comfortably decorated. And the restaurant was pretty much one of the best I have ever eaten in. It is perfect if you are looking for a cozy and private place to stay with your partner!!!"

"We spent our honeymoon at Zazen in May, having looked at many different resorts in Samui before booking. It turns out we definitely picked the right one! Having seen lots of the other places we considered, none looked quite as beautiful or peaceful as Zazen. We stayed in one of the 5 beachfront bungalows and the room was wonderful - well presented, comfortable, all the facilities we needed, and a lovely setting. It was shady and cool in the day and the verandah was a great place to relax and admire the view of the bay, Big Buddha and Koh Phangan, sipping delicious Mango Lassies from the bar. The bathroom was partly open, but covered and private, with a good powerful shower and a pair of fighting fish who didn't seem very keen to fight. Must have been that zen atmosphere... The staff, from the proprieter to the waitresses, cleaners and driver, were always friendly and helpful and the restaurant was excellent - both European and Thai menus. The atmosphere in the resort was very quiet and relaxed - just what we were looking for, although if you're looking for lively nightlife it's probably not the place for you. You can use the internet and borrow DVDs for free, although the internet doesn't work if it's stormy! The setting, at the other end of Bophut beach from the fisherman's village (about a mile), is quiet and pretty and the water is really warm but not especially clear. The sand on the beach is slightly coarse as some other reviewers have said, but it's fine to walk on and clean. Bophut seems like the nicest of the towns on Samui from what we saw - much more laid back than Chaweng but a decent selection of bars and restaurants. There's a hut for massages on the beach by the bungalows although we went to the place just next door which was a third of the price of Zazen's masseurs, who were getting a lot less business as a result - they should think about dropping the price. Zazen isn't cheap but, with the exception of the massages and the trinkets in the boutique, the prices aren't outrageous. We felt we got value for money and loved ervy minute of our stay. Incidentally, everything on Koh Samui is a lot more expensive than it was when my wife last visited a few years ago. Eating out, especially in european-run places, costs close to european prices. One minor criticism - they could do with getting a few more CDs! The music in the bar & restaurant was appropriate, if not particularly to our slightly quirky tastes, but did get quite repetitive. All in all, a brilliant holiday in a brilliant place."

"We stayed at the Zazen for 7 nights in February. Overall this is a great hotel, if you are after a nice peaceful relaxed break, if you want plenty of action then look elsewhere. The rooms are tasteful, staff friendly, sun loungers on the beach are really comfy. Breakfast is good but the pool is on the small side. I only had one minor complaint, this was about the beach Zazen is based on rather than the hotel itself. The sand on the beach wasn't the best to walk on. Stay here if you want a relaxed break... enjoy"

Gosh What a Disappontment!
"We booked with my new husband this resort a couple of weks before going to Kho Sami and we ere charmed by the website, expecting a good quality resort, with excellent service. And we were quite dispointed. The resort is not really a boutique hotel, the common areas are over crowded all the time, and the service is very slow and NOT friendly at all. Thailand is about smile, and we were quite surprise not to have a single one from the staf (except at the reception, where they were a bit more friendly and helpful). To avoid: - Beach: overcrowded and dirty - restaurant: overpriced and food as low quality as the service - spa: overpriced and not good products Things that are OK: - Room design - Sun bed (but get up early) On top of that there where a bunch of girls apparently there for a stag night and they were very loud and smoking all the time in the common area. they made a big fuss when they had to leave the airport, and certainly got into trouble with the staf. Better check on the occupancy... or just skip this resort actually, there are plenty of other resorts in Kho Samui that offer beter service at better price."

Quiet corner of the beach...
"Stayed at Zazen for 6 nights a year or two ago. We originally booked a garden room with the 'outdoor' bathroom which was nice enough, but upgraded to a beachfront bungalow which was worth every extra cent (if actually isn't that much!). Thoughtful details like a bed raised so you can see the ocean when you're lying down and the two hammocks just outside for lounging in. Very quiet corner of the beach, great village and easy to reach Chewang (10-15 mins) etc if you want more noise. Only minor quibble is that they frequently hold weddings - it's only a small resort and that means a lot of the resort feels 'out of bounds' for normal guests (unless you want to get in the way!). Aside from that, fantastic place, fantastic price but shop around the websites as there are some serious variations in who charges what to stay here!"

"We stayed for 4 nights at the beginning of September as part of a longer trip. This is a lovely, small and quiet hotel in a good location. Very stylish and great value for money. It's perfect for couples but perhaps too quiet for families. We booked through an agency and got a great rate. We found this hotel to be more than a third cheaper than another similarly graded hotel we stayed at on the same trip - but the quality and service was just as good. The restaurant is excellent here with an extensive menu. We ate several times in the restaurant with friends and the food was fabulous every time - some of the best meals we had on our trip. Very good service too. The hotel is located on a good stretch of beach at the western end of Bophut beach. Lots of local fisherman have their longtail boats here too. It's about a 15 min walk along the beach from Fisherman's Village, and we hired a scooter from a shop across the road for zipping around on. The same shop also did our laundry for a few pennies. We had a Garden Deluxe room which was spacious and located close to the pool, beach and restaurant. The outdoor bathroom is an unusual feature and the hotel provided little extras like mozzi spray in case you needed to venture in there at night! A nice touch. We also had two little friends in the bathroom - two fish in bowls! The pool area was very nice and the drinks and snacks service was good too. The beachfront rooms looked really nice. We noticed that some rooms were set back away from the beach in well-maintained gardens but I didn't see what they were like. I would recommend choosing a room closer to the beach just for the sake of convenience. My only negative comment is that a small stream runs by the hotel in front of rooms 10-14 and it was sometimes a bit smelly. Not sure the hotel could really do much about that though. We would rate this hotel as 4*+ and we would definitely stay here again if we go back to Samui."

Fantastic cozy spot
"Just back from a lovely 2 weeks stay at Zazen. We will recommend this hotel to everybody who wants to go to Samui. Bohput beach is the right place if you like an easy going and quiet stay, but in the same time just 15 minutes from busy Chaweng. We stayed in room 3 a beach bungalow, which might be smaller than the garden bungalows but the view was great and alsways something happening in front of your house. For us it was big enough since we only slept in there. My complements to the wifes owner for the nicely decoration, it sure feels like home. The restaurant is marvelous, Wally is a great Chef, we had several dinners and enjoyed anything on the menu, A shame I found out on the last day that they also had a huge lunch menu, we "only" choose from the tapas menu since we loved to had lunch in the comfertable chairs at the bar. Breakfast might be sober but for us enough to choose from. We had a lot of fun with the girls from the restaurant, Nok, Nuch, Toon, which seems shy and polite but in the meantime naughty little ladies, thanx girls and take care ... Service at Zazen is one of the best we ever had in all facets. So ... to be short, just go there and have the time of your life. Don't forget to rent a scooter to tour the island but be carefull in the crazy trafic. Sawadee Ká Anja and Edward For pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cuba-junky/sets/72157594292037500/"

"I stayed in Zazen with my girlfriend for six nights early December 2005.Since it was my first time in Thailand and none of my friends ever been there i just decided to roll the dice!!!Well i guess i had a double 6!!!Lets start with the negatives.Although we had arrange for airport transfer, the hotel van did not appear in the airport.I gave them a call and the mini van arived within 15 minutes.Along with their apologies they offered me the ride on our departure free!!!Check in was fast.No worries etc.Although our booking was for a garden deluxe room ,they told us that we can upgrade in a garden villa(which was huge !!!) if could wait for an hour. Why not we said and we were right, because the weather for the next 6 days was just rain and rain and rain.So we spent enough time in the room.Hotell stuff was great, very polite and funny. We were invited in their annual party in a local taverna with free transfer. It was a great night.Restaurant was excellent, nicely decorated and with great variety.Breakfast was normal, nothing funcy but more than enough. You could order eggs the way you wanted. How about the room?Well i ve never stayed in such a huge room(60 sq.m).Greatly decorated with coffee corner, an open air bathroom and one of the best beds i ever slept.Did i mention the big sofa and the DVD?I have no comments on the beach issue because the weather ruined my beach plans. However lots of excarsions can be made through the hotel desk with a discount of up to 20%.And its a real discount because i checked the prices outside the hotel.Dont miss the Catamaran cruise in Ko Pagnan island. As i mentioned earlier the hotel stuff was great but what they did during my check out was something that i ll never forget.I used my credit card and i forgot it under the receipt. When the hotel van left us at the airport the driver got a call on his cell phone about my card.He went back to the hotel and brought the card back.!!!What can i say.?Thank you very much people in Zazen.Looking forward for my next visit!!!So if you look for a small hotel not croweded and away from the mess of Chaweng beach this is amoong the best deals in Samui P.s They even sent me an e-mail on my birthday 1 month later."
