"omg I cannot believe the other comment it is so far from the truth, koh samui is a lovely relaxed resort, there are plenty of bars but many are relaxed chilled out places with cushions and beanbags to sit on and not at all loud and rowdy. We stayed in a small bungalow type room at the chaweng regent and the staff were so polite and I couldn't fault the rest of the hotel it had everything on hand but we spoent most of our time on the unspoilt sands. I think we encountered one time share seller and we had walked quite a distance from the hotel to come across him. The beach bars and retaurants were lovely low seating, cushions and background music. all you would need for a holiday in paradise. before we had arrived in koh samui we had been to bangkok and phuket and all offered a unique thai experiance that I will never forget."

"Had a 10 night stay at the Chaweng Regent Beach Resort in April 2006. The hotel is ideally located - you can enjoy both the hustle & bustle of Chaweng Beach Road and the beach, tranquil gardens & setting of the hotel. We had a deluxe room in the Regency Wing which was adequate. Room was cleaned twice a day & had everything we needed although could have done with a few more drawers & another mirror (was only one which was in the bathroom). Liked the idea of the sunken bath by the window but perturbed when I realized that if you had the blinds open you were on full view to all!! Good choice was available at breakfast but they make really weak tea! Fresh fruit was nice but really could have done with being kept chilled but platters were changed regularly so if you timed it right you could get some just fresh out of the fridge. We had a lunch a couple of times at the hotel which was fine and the waiters were readily available for drinks round the pool. Around and about we liked the Islander bar (just down road form hotel) â it had a nice atmosphere. We enjoyed food at Patios (in Lamai) and Samui Seafood (just across road from hotel) but our favourite by far was Poppies. We ate there twice â first we ate off the international menu then went back on our last night & had a Thai meal - the setting, service & food is exceptional & worth paying for! The only disappointing meal we had was at Chez Andyâs â poor service, poor value for money and zero atmosphere. Fishermanâs Village is nice & quaint for a break from vibrant Chaweng and worth a visit one evening for dinner but did not like Lamai (except Patios restaurant) it felt seedy & dirty. Chaweng Regent Beach Resort is an ideal location for a holiday in Ko Samui if you donât want to be too far from the action but still have a relaxing time."

"We booked our holiday to Koh Samui in Thailand because all the brochures we got said it was a paradise island with beautiful beaches etc, also we thought it would be less commercial than the resorts of Phuket & Pattaya. This could not have been further from the truth, as we found upon arrival. The airport was quaint but driving the 10 minutes to the hotel we were shocked at the state of the roads & how dirty the whole island was. When we walked outside our hotel it was like Blackpool, constantly accosted by Timeshare touts, tailors, peddlers & prostitutes. The island is only small & apart from the Big Buddah temple there is nothing much to see or do. You can't relax on the beaches are they are filthy. Even if you had lunch at a beach bar you were constantly pestered by the peddlers every few minutes. The resort we stayed in was supposedly 4 1/2* but we would have given it 3* at the most. We had booked a deluxe room upper floor which in the brochure looked huge. Upon arrival they gave us a ground floor room which was tiny & smelled moldy. We asked for the upper floor but told none available so had to upgrade to a suite for a further £900. I wonder why the accommodation in Thailand is so expensive as I have stayed in far cheaper & better accommodation for half the price. The beach in Chaweng is the worst beach I have ever been on in my life. Walking along the beach there was rubbish strewn everywhere & open storm drains from the hotels running straight into the sea. Coming home & once again looking in all the brochures the island looks beautiful, how deceptive a brochure can be. For the cost of the whole holiday we could have had 4 or 5 European holidays where the beaches are cleaner & you are not as blatantly ripped off by the locals. Everyone tells you how nice the Thai people are true, but though nice all they seem to want to do is rip the tourists off. Not surprising when you see all the old men with the Thai girls, they must hate the people who are just looking for cheap sex. I've had lots of people asking me about Thailand for holidays & I've told everyone the same DON'T BOTHER. It's a long way to travel to get ripped off."
