"We stayed at Sarikantang in the second week of January to join the Fullmoon Party. The resort is situated in the best location of Koh Phangan. Only 5 minutes walk to the town and Hadd rin beach, but you still can enjoy the tranquility of the Leela beach. The resort also has its own spa which located nearby the beach. The price is very reasonable and the spa manager is very helpful. If you don't want to miss the spa, you should book it earlier. I definitely recommend this resort to my friends."

Not recommended - poor management

"Sarikantang is a pretty resort in a good spot. It has a lot of potential but is let down by the management. The owner/manager, Mai, has no clue about good service and how to treat customers. If she changed her attitude, she would build customer loyalty and a good reputation. Obviously this is a business that they want to make maximum profit from but they would do better if they were polite and helpful as opposed to pulling a fast one and becoming rude when someone complains. Our stay at Sarikantang got off to a bad start and we should have taken that as a sign not to stay. After going to see the hotel to check it out, we emailed a couple days later only to be quoted different and inflated priced. After a couple of queries, we confirmed the booking only to find that they had let a room go. When questioned, the email we received was long, rude and unapologetic. We stayed during the full moon party period so that we could be close to the action. What we didn't realise is that the parties seem continue for several days. It is not advisable to stay at Sarikantang if you want to sleep after a long night of partying on the actual full moon night. Backyard Pub close by carried on playing music all day until 10pm the following night. This was continued by Drop-In Club which was still going a couple of days later. If you stay in the cheap rooms on the hill, this music will be very loud. We could even hear it through ear plugs. We decided to check out a couple of nights early because we couldn't sleep at all. We were told that if we did leave early, they would charge extra because we weren't staying the full 5 days. We explained that this was unreasonable, that we would have stayed if we could sleep. Checking out was an unpleasant experience. Mai was extremely rude and shouted at us. She could not be reasoned with. We paid the bill based on the original agreed price and refused to pay the extra. We were supposed to get a 9.30 boat to Samui with a taxi with Sarikantang. Mai told us we had to stay and sort out the payment so she ordered someone to unload our luggage from the car. It got nasty so we said that we'd be happy to resolve this with the police involved and that didn't seem to go down well. We refused to pay and ended up having to walk with our cases up the long dirt hill. We made it in time! Other problems: 1. Strange stains on the sheets 2. Cockroaches and ants in room 3. Room not cleaned despite handing in key before their required deadline 4. Upon going to reception to check out, the receptionist radioed someone who I then saw running to the room. I followed and saw her checking everything despite us not having even finished packing. Worth noting: 1. No soap in any room (even top end) but they have body lotion, strangely 2. If you stay in the beach from suite, you'll hear the kitchen open up at 7.30am. Noise of cutlery and a machine switching on"

"We stayed at The Sarikantang with a group of friends, 16 of us all together. We went to Koh Phangan for The Full Moon Party (only 5 minutes walk away - ok, 10 minutes if you'd had any buckets) and every one of us thought the place rocked. It was good value, the restaurant/bar served great value and tasty food and drinks (often late at night with ridiculous requests) Rooms were tidy and comfortable, staff were friendly and helpful. All of us would definitely return."

"I went there with a big group of friends and had a great time staying at Sarikantang. It's a bit far from the pier but you can arrange with the resort for free transfer to and from the pier. It's 5-10 minutes walk to the center where you find restaurants, bars and shops. The beach in front of the resort is beautiful and quiet. You can choose to stay under the shade of trees by the beach or the shade of umbrella by the pool. Truly amazing choice for vacation. In-room facility for a deluxe bungalow includes air-con., cable tv, safety deposit box, and minibar. Bathroom is nice and large."

"My boyfriend and I booked the Deluxe Seaview Bungalow (#45) which was great value for $65AUD pn. Unfortunately the weather wasn't that great while we were there for the week as it was extremely windy and overcast with a few hours of sunshine a day. The room was large with a comfortable bed, DVD player and in-room safe. The water pressure was fine and there was no problems with hot water. The toilet and shower are separate rooms with doors with the sink being in between both which was convenient. The bathroom window is made of bamboo strips with a towel covering it so with it being so windy there were leaves that would blow onto the shower floor but it was no big deal. The balcony consisted of a daybed and a hammock which was perfect for relaxing with a good book or looking at the view. The beach is lovely with white sand but we were there during the low tide season so the tide was out during the day most of the time and when it was in, it was only knee deep. The resort is only a 5 minute walk into Haad Rin town up a dusty path and down a flight of stairs but it is lit up at night. We spent the majority of our time at the restaurant reading and drinking fruit shakes which are amazing for 60THB. The waiters at the restaurant look very uninterested but try and have a chat to them as they are eager to get to know people and learn more English. They also work extremely long hours so I guess they can’t smile all day and night. We got to know a few of the waiters who were from Burma, especially Nei who was always willing to have a chat. The food at the resort is great and extremely cheap. We did go and eat at the Coco Hut next door but found it to be a bit pricey and the service not as good as the Sarikantang. We also found that buying alcohol from the 7/11 in town was great value for money. You pay about $1 AUD for a longneck of beer and Chang was our favourite. You also get pre mixed drinks for around the same price although the minibar at the Resort is cheap as chips so for the first time we didn’t mind paying for items consumed. My partner actually proposed to me during our stay at the Sarikantang so we will definitely be going back. It's nice if you are into a relaxing holiday. Don't stay here if you want to party. Oh yeah.. do not hire a scooter in Koh Phangan, it's a quick way to die!"

Good Hotel and great vacation

"Good Hotel...The staff and spa are fabulous. The spa is very affordable, I got a massage everyday! The restaurant is great as well. We had breakfast there everyday as well as many dinners and tried many different things and everything was good. The beach is not good for swimming or snorkeling if that is what you are going here for. You much travel to the north end of the island to snorkel and it's about 45 minutes by car. Swimming is possible at the hotel only at certain times of the day due to the corals and tide. The beach is very peaceful and pretty but sunsets are hard to see around the cliffs from the beach also. The room was a bit overpriced. We had a beach front suite. It was nice. We were disappointed in a few things though. The bathtub would take all day to fill up if you actually wanted to use it and we were really looking forward to that from the pics. People constantly laid in front of our room which didn't leave us much privacy. We were also under the impression our room would be private and detached but it was joined with the other beach front room and you could hear everything. We were also right next to the restaurant and the music played until very late but it wasn't too awfully loud, just not private. The windows and sliding glass door had very thin curtains also so when people walked by our room or laid infront of it on the beach you have no privacy. We loved our hotel and would go back but stay in a cheaper room maybe a poolside bungalow. They looked just a nice and had much more privacy. I talked about mostly the negative things here and keep in mind these are the worst things from our trip so we really don't have anything too disappointing and loved our vacation. I hope these details help someone decide on their next trip. Enjoy!"

"We stayed in a deluxe ocean view room for a couple of nights and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We paid 2300 Baht per night and although breakfast wasn't included in the price, the food available at the restaurant was both cheap and tasty. The room was in a small bungalow and had a nice large balcony with a hammock, and a view of the ocean. One point to note though is that the room (room 53) was not easy access as you have to go up a set of stairs. The bathroom was large and the shower was powerful, very nice after a day at the beach. Best of all was the spa though. The prices are very reasonable (same as anywhere else on the beach), and the view you get when being massaged is absolutely amazing, postcard-like! We would recommend this hotel to everyone."

"i have stayed in koh phangan many times over the past few years and sarikantang is one of the better and safer places to stay, it helps to get out of the hustle and bustle of had rin beach and its so nice to have your own private clean beach, compared to the rest of thailand, the rooms are a bit pricey for what you get, not really a fan of the bathroom layout, as the shower and bathroom our in two seperate rooms, another thing is the toilet shares a roof with the bungalows toilts next door as does the shower which means you can usually hear EVERYTHING thats goes on next door and like wise, so advise to close both doors! the resort is over all really nice, its a bit of dodgy walk back at night if you have had a few too many drinks though as its a steep climb, the staff in the restaraunt are sooooooo lovely and friendly. the staff at reception however obviuolsy dont like their jobs because they have been the rudest hotel staff i have ever come accross. dont know if they were under stress over the full moon period but they should really treat people with a lot more respect and understand that the people arriving there have probably been traveling for a very long time and are very tired too! over all i would definitley come back here"

"We stumbled on this place as we met someone on the island who recommended it. The place is a little gem! We gave them a call, they gave us an excellent rate and sent someone to pick us up from our existing accommodation nearby. All the staff we dealt with were great! We got upgraded so our rooms was fantastic with a sunken bath and great balcony. Some of the rooms up in the hills overlooking the sea are also great. The rooms aren’t full of furniture, but who wants furniture! The place had a great little pool and was right on the beach front. The beach is nice and quiet and a lovely place to chill. Food in the restaurant was consistently good and cheap. We found some restaurants in the area a bit substandard compared to what we were used to in Thailand. The spa which belongs to the hotel is also really good offer a wide range of treatments. All in all, for the price we paid, this place was great value and worth a try."
