"This is the second time that we have been guests of the Westin, and each time that we have stayed it gets seems to get better. The rooms are lovely and clean as are the grounds and public areas. The breakfasts we're great with plenty of choice, from cereal ,salads and do you believe it curry, the eggs we're cook to your liking whether it be omelette , sunny side up, hard or soft boiled, some of the meals in the restaurant are a bit pricey but you would expect that been a 5* hotel . The hotels main asset is their staff, they were wonderful they were always smiling and courteous some even try to teach me a bit Malay (Azhan) who works in the Breeze bar,could always remember our names and we felt as though we were old friends . One downfall is how hot it was in the reception area, could do with some air con. But all in all 1 of the best hotels we have stayed in. Not far to walk to the Jetty where you can do some shopping, hire a car or get a quick bite, a bit further Llangkawi mall and then you have Kuah ."

Great hotel but expensive
"We stayed here for 13 nights in January, we booked a deluxe patio room and although the room and patio were very nice it did feel like we were underground as the view was a stone wall with trees above (see pic 1) After 3 nights we decided to ask about moving to a room with a view, at first the hotel wanted RM200 per night and after setteling on RM100 per night we were shown to a very nice, large room on the ground floor with a partial sea view (see pic 2). We liked the room but it had a rather damp smell to it and so the hotel agreed to put an ioniser in the room assuring us this would remove the smell, we agrred to the room and whilst the staff moved our belongings we went off to sunbathe etc. However when we returned several hours later the smell was still there despite the ioniser but more importantly we found the room was covered in ants so off we went to reception again. They finally showed us a room on the top floor with a view of the pool areas and the sea and here we happily spent our final 10 nights.(see pic 3) the disappointing part of this is that i do not think we should have to pay Â£150.00 in a 5* hotel just to get a view from our balcony, so please check before you stay here. The food in the daytime restaurants Tide and Splash is very nice although expensive and we only dined once in the main restaurant called Taste and although it was very nice it was expensive considering you can get good meals at half the price just 10 minutes walk away. Another example of expense is car hire, the hotel wanted RM150 per day and we hired a brand new Proton from the jetty area for RM60 per day. The staff are very polite and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The grounds have a way to go due to the recent refurbishments but the gardeners were working hard daily and i am sure they will have them beautiful in time. All in all we really enjoyed The Westin infact we intend to return there next year although if it was in a more remote location such as the Datai then it would be a very expensive stay. Wethought we had a great holiday and that it could not get much better but then we Moved to the Mandarin Oriental in KL"

"Spent a fantstic 6 nights in a deluxe panoramic ocean view room. The hotel has just recently been re-branded as a Westin following complete renovations. The reception is beautifully furnished and decorated and check in was quick and easy. The room was a reasonable size with nice balcony and had a very contemporary design which good sized bathroom and a large plazma TV. The heavenly bed and heavenly shower were superb. The main bar is excellent, beautifully designed with fantastic views across the bay. Drinks are failry expensive. There is live entertainment every night. The food is of a good standard and is reasonably priced for a 5* hotel (although still far more expensive than local restaurants which are very cheap). Twice a week they lay tables by the pool in the evening and have a large hot buffet or bbq so you can dine out under the stars. Fantastic. The buffet breakfast is also very good with plenty of choice. There are 3 pools and always plenty of sunbeds. The service round the pools is excellent and there is also a swim up bar in the main pool which serves food. The gardens are very pretty but are in early days of growth in some areas due to the renovations. They are still building some villa's at the far end of the hotel but there wasn't too much noise and it didn't bother us. The beach was quite nice but looked a bit ropey at low tide - it looked fine at high tide though!! The spa was very good (so my wife tells me) and is reasonably priced (compared to uk prices). There are a couple of restaurants 10 minutes walk down the road from the hotel (they do a shuttle) and the main town is only 10 minutes in a taxi. Overall, the service was excellent, the hotel was stunning, the food was good and it was a very relaxing holiday. I would highly recommend satying at the Westin."

"Stayed in one of their deluxe garden view rooms in Jan 2007 for 2 nights. Took a taxi from the Langkawi airport for RM 24 whereas Westin was charging us 80 for the pick-up. Airport to Westin took about 40 minutes. Check-in was quite quick and smooth and we were given some sort of weird tasting welcome drinks on arrival. Very contemporary room with excellent bathroom (separate shower and bath tub) done in a beige colored tiles. Huge plasma TV in the room was awesome. The buffet b'fast served at the Taste restaurant included in our room rate was quite good, both taste wise and variety wise. Ate at the Tide restaurant which has beautiful views of the sea, a couple of times and the food was excellent. I found the rates for room service and restaurant food to be in line with most 5 star resort properties. Did order room service once (pizza and a club sâwich) and was quite good and delivered quickly. Overall the staff at the resort were quite nice and helpful. We did seek help from the lady at the Tours desk and she also was quite helpful without pressurizing us to book through her. We hired a taxi for 7 hours for RM 150 from the hotel and did island tour, water sports, cable car and mangrove tour on our own. I highly recommend the mangrove tour. The spa is located away from the main bldg of the resort and me and my wife had some messages done and were quite satisfied with them. The resort is situated at the South East corner of the island past Kuah town. Lovely resort area which is very beautifully designed with 2 swimming pools. As others have mentioned beach is not great at the Westin. Please note that water sports and the nice big beach strip is located at the other end of the island near the Underwater world. Taxi will take a minimum of 40 minutes to get you there from Westin. On check-out I noticed that they had billed us for the bâfast for the 1st day and I bought it to their notice and they apologized for the mix-up and took it off immediately. Overall I would recommend the Westin Langkawi for a comfortable stay and offering decent value for money."

"Loved the Westin. Was upgraded to a suite with a panoramic ocean view. Rooms/bathrooms were amazing. Service was excellent. Spa was heavenly. Beach not the greatest, but that's for most beaches in Langkawi. The Taste restauant was delicious. For anyone going to Langkawi...The Loaf Restaurant in Telaga Harbour Park is a must. By far one of the best restaurants on the island!! Can't wait to go back and stay at the Westin!!"

Resort with a lot of potential, but they are not yet there
"We stayed for 10 days in the Westin (end Dec - begin Jan). The hotel location, the building, rooms, the decoration was all great. The location is close to town (Kuah) and has some good restaurants nearby. The rooms and general areas all very nicely decorated. Our criticism would go to the fact that a lot of the service was reactive. The staff wouldn't fix issue themselves but if you asked, it was done immediately. Like getting new laundry bags or coffee/tea when you ran out of it, you had to ask. They did not replenish it during their daily clean up of the rooms, which we found strange. The fitness center needs upgrading (air-condition is not sufficient and the equipment (excl Cardio) is out of date. The prices in the hotel are European prices. I.e. the breakfast in the hotel costs 15 euros. If you wander down to the restaurant Charlie's Place, you get a great American breakfast for 4 euros. The beach was so so. Iâm not sure if we would go back next time. We checked out the Four Seasons and felt that that hotel was a better place to stay in."

"My partner and I stayed at the Westin just prior to its relaunch in December. Having stayed at numerous 5* hotels in the last couple of months the Westin exceeded all our expectations and was flawless. Checkin was quick, efficient and very curteous in the contempary new lobby area. We were then escorted to our ocean view room which was furnished to a very high standard with huge 42" plasma screen, the heavenly bed, shower, bath etc. Real thought had been given to the room layout and the attention to detail throughout the room and the hotel was perfect. The views from the hotel are truely beautiful and unspoiled, the beach is not great but the huge infinity pool and ocean pool make up for this. All the staff, without exception were friendly and sincere . Breakfast was the best we have ever encountered with a very wide selection of european and asian dishes, fresh smoothies all in beautiful surroundings. I'm not usually a fan of buffet dinners but the one at Taste was exceptional, with a vast array of tasting dishes that were fresh and always varied. I have no hesitation to thoroughly recommend the Westin and we are already dreaming of returning soon."

Loved the champagne breakfasts!
"The hotel is newly refurbished and certainly has the wow factor. We travelled the island and saw other hotels - we remained very pleased with our own choice. The sea was not as clear as one would perhaps expect for that part of the world - nevertheless it was acceptable. Sevice is good and the breakfast remains one of the very best - a wonderful experience"

"We arrived on the evening of the 19th December - day of the opening ceremony. Tip - get a taxi at the airport. It'll cost MR24 rather than MR80 charged by the hotel. The check in went smoothly. The guest services rep explained that we were in an Ocean view room which I'd booked 6 weeks ago. I asked the rep if the Westin party was still happening but was told that we'd missed it. We weren't shown to our rooms which was tricky as the wing hadn't been fully refurbished. Luckily we bumped into our luggage attendant who told us our room was garden facing which indeed it was - we had effectively been bumped out of our assigned room to make way for some VIPs. The hotel blamed it on the computer saying it was registered as ocean view - pull the other one. Then we heard the fireworks go off as the party kicked off properly. The kind luggage attendant told us that dinner that night was complimentary so we had better get a move on. It's a shame our guest services rep couldn't have told us all this on our arrival. Anyway, they assigned us an ocean view room in the fully refurbished wing for the remainder of our stay (3 nights) and only charged us the garden view rate. Price-wise was definitely value for money. The breakfast buffet at the new Taste restaurant was v good. service. Ate once at the Tide restaurant which was good too. Service at both places and pool side was first class. The new pools were beautiful, although the rock pool might cause some skin grazes. Only non-motorised sports on the beach - kayaking, catamaran sailing, windsurfing. The tide goes quite a way out at about 3pm and some time in the morning, so probably not best to kayak at those times as I found out. Might need some foot protection if paddling in the sea as there were quite a lot of sharp shells around, but most people stuck to the pools. Hotel is v convenient for Kuah town which is only a MR8 ride away. Jai Island Cafe is recommended for a great bargain dinner. On the day of our check out, we found some purple underpants in our room that were probably left behind by the previous VIP occupant, so I don't know how well the rooms are cleaned. But the hotel did arrange another room for us later to shower as we had a late evening flight. Oh and the newly built spa is great. They're still working on it so the place charged us half price for treatments which were wonderful. Staff were sent over from the Sheratons in Indonesia - so they know what they're doing. All in all, we had a great time, but there were some aspects that were maybe just changeover niggles that took the shine off our stay. 3.5/5"

Just got back from Langkawi - SUPERB!!
"We have just returned from a holiday in Langkawi and stayed at Westin Langkawi..and in summary - it was superb! We made hotel reservations via Starwood website to Sheraton Perdana a.k.a Westin with it being close to Kuah town, easier for shopping, food and away from incase of tsunami et al.. boy were we thrilled with what we got ourselves into...we enjoyed the room facilities of a Westin with 'old' Sheraton rates!! each room is splurged with a 42in plasma tv, rain shower and very tastefully decorated - minimalist modern contemporary, felt so like home.. the hotel is currently under renovation ~ 90+% completion and will be officially upgraded to westin langkawi by dec 19..guests are entitled for complimentary yummy breakfast and dinner at the designer Taste Restaurant before the launching! what a deal!! would totally recommend to ppl who wants to go to langkawi..err..the only drawback was the beach...during low tide, well...the sight is ungodly..but what the heck..the rest are superb!"

Upgraded to Westin
"This Hotel is being upgraded to be a part of the WESTIN chain , the official openning will take place in late decemeber . me and my wife stayed there in November 2006 , due to the renovations that are taking place in the Hotel ( which are not disturbing ) they offered us a free luxurious dinner every night ...how about that !!! The room is amazing , bathroom is clean and cozy ...... and the location of the hotel is just 10 mins walking distance from the main town in langkawi which is KUAH . All in all ........recommended"
