Bayview Hotel Langkawi
10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"The hotel is ideally placed for shops within the Langkawi town, but that is its only plus point. The receptionists were unsmiling, unhelpful and for the most part, everything was try tomorrow. Breakfast was terrible, room-service dire and the room dirty, and in need of renovation. I would not recommend this place at all. Langkawi is beautiful, but go North to one of the resort hotels."

Ok hotel, bad food
"Had to stay at Bayview as most resort hotels were unavailable duo to short notice. We requested a deluxe seaview room with king bed but got twin beds instead as they were out of king bed room. Room was average with a nice sea and jetty view. Nothing exceptional. We tried the diner buffet on the 1st night as it was too late to go out. It was one of the most disgusting and horrible buffets I have ever experienced. Food was cold, tasteless and bland. The breakfast buffet was similarly poor. Only thing we were able to enjoy properly was the coffee!!! Hotel stuffs were helpful and friendly. But the dining experience totally ruined our stay at City Bayview hotel."

Ok Stay.... Would stay elsewhere next time
"City Bayview is a bit run down, but very clean. My only concern is that this hotel is quite a distance from the main beaches. Next time I would rent a small beach house directly on the Cenang Beach for approx. 120 RM per night. This hotel is right next to a market area. The shops are filled with the same types of souvenirs. (ie. sarongs, scarves, tshirts, inflatable toys, etc.) There unfortunately is little variety. Excellent local food can be purchased at casual restaurants walking distance from the hotel. (Approx. 7 RM per meal) Eating at these places is a great experience... no English is spoken at these places... to order its buffet style. Lots seafood and fresh vegetables, very exotic... Not far from the hotel is an excellent restaraunt called Charlie's place. Mainly tourist and members of the yacht club frequent it. It is a beautiful location next to the marina and the prices are very reasonable in comparison to North American standards. The beaches are beautiful in Langkawi and the people are very nice. Langkawi still needs to be cleaned up however in my opinion. Unlike Hong Kong where we flew from, the streets of Langkawi need to be cleaned. There was lots of garbage on the streets, litter on the beach has to be cleaned... The nicest beach we visited was the Tanjung Rhu beach in the north, approx. a 30min taxi drive from City Bayview. This beach is very secluded and near a small market with one small seafood restaurant by the beach. Unlike Cenang Beach, there are very few boats. It is right next to the Four Seasons hotel. Unlike in the Carribean, the beaches of Malaysia do not have public showers or changing stalls available."

Very kind and helpful staff, good location
"We don't really like resort hotels so decided to stay in Kuah itself, and drive around. The staff at this hotel were very kind, but fortunately we both speak Malay so we could avoid some slight misunderstandings. The food can be monotonous, but local dishes are well cooked and very tasty. The location is ideal, although Kuah is small, but a short taxi ride will get you to many places. Kuah is also very laid back and quiet, but ferries to Kuala Perlis and Kuala Kedah make for an interesting stay. There are several local Malay restaurants within walking distance. Car hire was disastrous as the machine which arrived was in poor state of repair (puncture, no fuel, very dented and dirty), but we got a fair and significant rebate. Best use another outlet for this. Overall, very good value for money with a huge suite, 2 bathrooms, efficient aircon etc."

"I enjoy staying at this hotel because it is situated at a strategic place that is at the heart of langkawi and all the facilities are good and excellent."

"We decided to stay at the hotel after browsing the internet and peek at the guest reviews. Our room was a superior room/hillview and my kids love it though we can only see the hill from our window. IT was a clean and well maintained room. The hotel staffs was polite and friendly too. The food was good. Good location since near shopping area and at night you can go to night market ( only certain days )."

Was not impressed
"My friend and I travelled to Langkawi on 14 aug 06 after spending wonderful days in Hong Kong and Singapore and Kuala Lumpur as we were doing a few hops around asia. We decided Langkawi would be our final stop before we returned to England. Bad mistake. We flew into Langkawi from Kuala Lumpur and took a taxi to our hotel. Check in was efficient enough and we were sent to our 'deluxe seaview room' on the 6th floor. On exiting the lift, we were greeted with the most foul musty smell of mildew, that we had to hold our breath until we got in to our room. The seaview room was not very spectacular. It was mostly a view of the pool below and the town market with the so called beach in the back ground. The windows were very dirty and did not open. Kuah town itself was very boring and there was nothing to do. We did not find a single beach in Langkawi where one could swim or sunbathe. We went on the other side of the island to pentai cenang where we thought we would find better beaches but they were not up to much. The breakfast for the hotel was very boring, and for someone who loved their food, I was very disappointed. To top it all, on our last day, there was a storm which blew in the hotel foyer window. Making me think the whole hotel needs to be overhauled. Even though we manged to get it at a reasonable price, it was not our first choice as the one we wanted was full. In all it was a rather dull end to an otherwise wonderful trip in the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, and being a frequent traveller who has visited numerous places in over 25 countries, that's quite a title for Bayview Hotel Langkawi to hold. "We booked The City Bayview Hotel on Langkawi on the net , including airport tranfers and breakfasts x 2 for RM200 for a delux room per night , staying three nights at the end of April 2006 . The airport transfers failed to appear on our late night arrival , although the check-in was efficiently co-ordinated and executed , with our dispatch so fast we failed to see much of the hotel at first glance .The hotel is very prominent in the town of Kuah and is quite large ( about 250 rooms ) but a very poorly maintained property , with extremely lacklustre and limited breakfast menu suited to the local tastes , of fatty foods and rice . The rooms are very dated , with not much redecoration over the age of the property ( 30yrs ) . The limited use of english by hotel staff made our stay very frustrating at times , as the many problems we encountered in our room ( leaking toilet , couldn't empty bath-tub , noise from adjacent rooms , hairdryer inoperative , no international power socket , very dirty windows , room entry door not closing ) , were exascerbated by the lengthy time and number of requests to have these matters rectified . Overall not an international hotel , and without any possibility of giving it a star rating , and the inclusive breakfast was by far the biggest disappointment . Was it value for money at US$55.00 per night ? , possibly , but three nights was two too many . Brian & Donna McCarty Queensland"

Great View,very relaxing
"This is one of the best places to stay in Langkawi!!! Get a room with the Ocean view if you can try and get Room 1331. The view is absolutely great. The hotel staff was very pleasant and professional and in a good location easily accessible to most of the attractions you could want to see...and thare are many...except for the big bird!!! I still dont get it. I look forward to going back there this November for my honeymoon Enjoy Malaysia Everyone its been very good to me and now i look forward to making it my home away from home Zaharah-Monica"

Best value hotel
"The rooms are gigantic by modern hotel standards. The finishes however are worn out although not yet shabby. But the budget price is just fantastic. With free buffet breakfast including most western eggs 'n' bacon dishes and oriental noodles 'n' stir fried dishes, this hotel is great value for money. Friendly reception staff cater mostly to locals and a handful of independent travellers."
