Relaxing Stay

"The basic (standard) rooms were a little tired, run down and dark due to the lack of light coming in, but would have been acceptable (and I’m very fussy). It had a king bed, which is important to us, and it was perfectly clean. The old standard rooms are all being upgraded/renovated now, and will be twice the size (and probably price!) when finished in about 2 years. However, we upgraded to a Hillview room in another building which is only two years old. Get a room in these new buildings – they are great. And because we were on the top floor there and towards the end of the building, we actually had a gorgeous sea view despite it being classified as a Hillview. This room was terrific – airy, very spacious, filled with light, spotlessly clean, the bed was king sized and very comfortable. Great bathroom. The food – breakfast and dinner buffets – were terrific. Always quickly replenished. And even though only one restaurant was open when we were there (two others were being renovated), the food was very good. The Round Island snorkeling trip was terrific – they had good equipment and we went to 4 spots for very good snorkeling. The free trip to Marine Park (included in our price/package that we got from KL office of Berjaya) for snorkeling was not as good – way too many people shipped there from other sites, and the snorkeling was okay but not great. You could miss that – but since it is free, it is hard to pass up. The Round Island one is much much better. Few other tours were available for some reason. Husband did a dive – it was very good too. The instructor was very professional. We loved our time at Berjaya – great beach and ocean, and relaxing atmosphere."

Great Beach--Horrible Food

"This is an excellent resort by all means, however it has its flaws : we didn't receive a welcome drink upon arrival. There was construction in the lobby which was very noisy (should be done by Sept 08). Not enough towels in the room. Also, the bathroom sink had this horrible odor underneath. Be aware, the food is not only expensive, but not very good at all! I ordered a burger n fries upon arrival after a 3 hr flight, and got something that didnt even come close to a burger. However, the BBQ buffet is worth it, as they have all sorts of meats/veggies BBQ'd--very tasty! The beach was the real deal here!! Impressive bay like beach that is all to yourself! there were times when we were the only patrons on the beach!! White clean sand, and clear aqua water with plenty of fish to feed while snorkeling. There is an optional snorkeling tour, but go outside the entrance, and you can sign up with the local guide for 45 MYR++ ($15.00USD) for 3 islands in contrast to the 95 MYR price of the hotel....and it was better!! Also, if you walk about 1/8th of a mile down from the entrance, you can eat really good homemade authentic Malay food at a fraction of the price at this mom n pop store."

"just back from this lovely hotel in redang- we upgraded our room on arrival to a seaview and although you had lots of steps to climb it was worth it as the view was just beautiful. The food was really nice in all the restuarants but was a bit on the pricey side compared to our second stay on this island in the laguna resort redang The beach was so lovely and very relaxing. we went on the hotel snorkelling trip which is a must... so many different fish as well as stingrays and turtles. The best thing without doubt about this hotel was the spa. i always take a massarge when on holiday and this is one of the best so i reccomend you take an hour out of the day to enjoy this. The staff were so keen to make your stay perfect and the boys that run the buggy up and down the hill to the rooms were more than happy in their job - always smiling. All in all a really nice stay at a really nice hotel"

"Stayed from 2nd to 5th of May. Me, my girlfriend, friend and his wife took a flight from Singapore Selatar Airbase to Redang. The flight is only about 1 and 1/2 hr to Redang Island itself. Berjaya resort has arranged for a pickup from the Airport back to the resort. Journey from Redang Airport to the Resort is only about 5 minutes bus ride. Everything was great until we reached the Resort. On our first day, as it was in between a Public Holiday and weekend. Our room which was a Redang Seaview was so called upgraded to Oceanfront Suite. The good thing about the Oceanfront Suite is that there is a living room and 2 bedrooms. Each of the bedroom has a toilet with shower in it. There is also another toilet in the living Room. But the sad part is that one of the room has a view of the coconut trees and beach. But the other room has a view of another chalet which is under renovation. The televisions in our rooms are faulty. The technician came and left. He gave us his word that he will return, which he never did return. We went back to the lobby to request to change back to our Original decision which was a Seaview Suite. After about 10 minutes of negotiation, only than the truth was out. Our Original reservation which was Redang Seaview was fully booked and some of the guests will be checking out the next day. On the 2nd day, we finally manage to check into our Redang Seaview Room. The view was breathtaking. Immediately, we felt like we have moved from a construction site to a paradise. The beach is covered with fine sand, sea is so clear and beautiful. You can even snokerll near the rocks beside the beach. There are quite a number of fishes there. We joined the snokerlling trip to the marine park. it is really a fantastic place for first timers who snokerll. As you will be walking from the beach and swim towards the sea where the corals are. For those who do not know how to snokerll and swim, it is the best place for you to buil up your confidence. No worries for poor and non-swimmers, as life jackets and snokerlling gear will be provided by the resort before the snokerlling trip My girlfriend who is a non swimmer, took less than 10 minutes to build up her confidence on snokerlling and swimming in the sea with a life jacket. Remember to bring along some bread to feed the fishes, when you go for your snokerlling trip. The fishes will swim towards you, when you feed the bread to them. We wanted to go out of the resort for our dinner, as there are stalls just outside the resort. The village is only about 15 to 20 minutes walk from the resort. In the end, we ended up having most of out meals in the resort. BBQ night is a Must Not Miss, there are satays (local marinated BBQ meats), and different sort of BBQ styles. Their food is fantastic. Overall advice, the stay is fantastic. My girlfriend and my friend's wife enjoyed the SPA a lot, while me and my friend enjoyed our sea, fishes and snokerlling trip. Really enjoyed ourselves for 2 full days as the first day was a real disappointment. Try not to book on a day which is a in between a public holiday and weekend."

"We stayed at the Berjaya Beach for five nights at the end of April. Best setting for a hotel I have ever been to. We payed extra for a seaview room and were so pleased we had. The views are just stunning and the room was perfectly clean and comfortable - no complaints at all. Quite a hike up to the room, but you can call for a buggy if you are not up to it - we didn't bother and soon got used to it despite being on the top floor! The staff are really friendly and the dive shop well run, although there seems to be a problem with their jetty and we had to be bussed to the main jetty for the diveboat (an old converted fishing boat - quite an experience!), but as the island is so small, this wasn't too much hassle. Unfortunately the visibility wasn't great while we were there. Pretty decent food in all the restaurants and if you are from the UK, you certainly wouldn't think it was pricey!! We did try the little restaurant just outside the property and had lovely fresh fish there at an unbelievable price. They also have a small shop where you can stock up on water, soft drinks and snacks for your mini-bar. All in all we really had a lovely time."

"Just got back from the Redang Berjaya beach resort and want to go back it was that good. First of all the staff are really nice and helpful with lots of smiles. Accommodation was really well laid out and had all the little things that make holidays special. We stayed in the hill top sea view and I loved the way they use a blind between the bathroom and lounge(see pic) area so when having a bath you can raise the blind and have a great view out over the resort and the wonderful ocean scenery(see pic). (And don’t worry no one's overlooking the rooms). The food was very good with massive selections they catered for all with international fair also they had Japanese section for sushi and lots of curries Most meals are buffet style with added section like the BBQ (See Pic)or the meat counter and if that’s not enough there are three other eating areas. Lunch time you can eat by the sea at the beach bar and have a really nice pizza and wine. The pizza are good size and very tasty. Also while laying on the beach under the shade umbrellas the bar boys will come and serve you with cocktails and snacks. The beach was great with its white sand and gentle slope out to sea - great for kids, also there is small jetty to go onto the many trips they have, including banana rides, Para sailing, glass bottom boat trip, diving and snorkelling. You can even use the kayaks. Work was still going on by the reception but I never once was disturbed by it they have put hoarding up and decorated them, so not really an intrusion. Worth a trip to the marine park for snorkelling, the fish are so colourful and abundant. All in all a great hotel resort and we will be going back for sure. Regards John"

The most beautiful beach i've seen

"This property sits on the most beautiful beach I've been to---pure white sands and crystal blue water. We chose to stay in the newly renovated Seaview rooms and it was worth every ringgit. The room was very comfortable and the view was to-die-for. It was modern and clean, though a bit of a hike to the beach and restaurants. Regular shuttle service helped in the evening when we were too tired to hike up the hill. The snorkeling was amazing and the spa massage was heavenly. I loved our weekend here, though it was too short! The service was also excellent, everyone was polite and gracious. My only complaint is that the prices in the restaurant are a bit high, compared to local standards. as I live in Malaysia, the prices are much higher than what we would normally pay for standard dishes. Although I'm not complaining about the food, it was good! Thanks for a great stay Berjaya Redang!"

"My boyfriend & I went right after the monsoon season had ended. We booked a 6D/5N package, that included a direct flight from Subang (KL) to the island. Berjaya Airline is rather old, but it got us there just fine(1 hour-ish from KL). They picked us up from the airport on the island and check in was a breeze! They upgraded us to the Hill View rooms(we had booked Garden Chalets) and we got the view of the turquoise sea as well and it was breathtaking! The rooms were new and spacious and clean and they had a shuttle service around the resort that would take you anywhere-we walked our way around and it was fine too. In terms of restaurants, all of them are rather expensive and not too great. The buffet breakfast was included in our package and it had a large variety of foods both local and international and was actually very good. We found a good restaurant outside the resort, that served fresh barbequed seafood and local delights and it delicious and cost a fraction of what the resort restaurants were charging. Snorkling was fantastic-we went to the Marine Park and snorkled around the resort beach(which is a white sandy beach & the sea is warm and clear and beautiful) The resort is well maintained and the gardens surrounding it are lush and green. A large kiddie pool is also available for those travelling with kids and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We saw many monkeys, gecko's & butterflies and it was delightful to hear the jungle noises at night too. They have a good spa there too but sadly we didnt get a chance to try it out. They were refurbishing the front lobby when we came, but from our rooms/the beach you cant a hear a thing except the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore. All in all, I would go back there to stay. The place is so peaceful and relaxed, we had a lovely time there and would recommend this resort for those who want some time to read, relax and just enjoy the beach."

"Secluded beach, clear waters, excellent snorkeling. Resort is far from the maddening crowd. If you wish to have great night life, don't go here. But if you want a clean 3 star hotel to stay in, this is it. If you wish to go snorkeling, hire a local company rather than the resort's own. You'd save a lot of money and get a more personalised approach to your experience. Also, go to the little 'restaurant' just outside the entrance of the resort, it'll be a good deal more authentic Malay cuisine."

"We have stayed in this resort for 4 days 3 nights from Mar16 to Mar19, a short getaway trip with my hubby shortly after our wedding. Booked this through Berjaya, the package is especially worth it since we got it during the NATAS fair promo. Berjaya has their own plane and there's bus transfer to and from airport. Majority of the travellers that stayed there are foreigners (Caucasians, Japanese, Koreans), very few locals. You would see more locals over at the other resorts at Pasir Panjang. As mentioned by the other reviewers, the resort is partially under renovation (the chalet portion). We stayed at the seaview room which is at the hilltop, thus lots of climbing up and downstairs. Room is generally clean and spacious for two. Level of service is good, the staff are generally very welcoming and smiles or greets you. Food served there are average variety mainly local, average taste and prices are steep. There are 3 restaurants there - "Palm" where the buffets are served RM55 per pax, "Beach" where there are jap food and steamboat, "cafe" in front of the beach with beer and snack. The spa is not too bad, though not the best. Priced from RM160 for an hour, to RM600 for a package for 4 hours. Beach is fantastic. The weather is great, water is so clear, sand is so fine. Except at night there wasn't much activity at the resort. During our last night we decided to venture out to the "open-air disco" at the laguna beach/ redang beach resorts in Pasir Panjung. We have to book this ourselves, through the coffeeshops near the resorts that charter boat services, priced at about +/-RM100 for 2 of us. The boat trip is about 10 to 15mins. This price varies slightly cos we heard someone else got a cheaper deal. There are more night activities there (pubs, restaurants, open air disco, etc). Snorkelling trip is a must. You can really see lots of fishes there and it was fun while we went to Marine Park, a favourite stop for snorkelling. Priced at RM35 per pax, the resort will provide the snorkelling equipments + charter bus to ferry + charter boat to Marine Park and back. About 2.5 hours in total. There are other stops too (pasir panjang, etc) however due to monsoon season we weren't fable to go (like turtle bay). We can't do the other sea activities too (kayat, etc) as the wind was too strong. Was told the best season is between may-august where the sea is more calm and you can see more fishes. Overall it is a good experience and will want to go again together with a couple of friends."
