Perhaps the Best Value for Snorkeling in Malaysia
"Three of us, very novice snorkelers, were looking for a good spot on Malaysiaâs east coast and picked the Coral Redang Resort partially based on the TripAdvisor recommendations. We spent three days and two nights â had three snorkeling trips and ate exclusively at the resort. We really enjoyed the experience. This stretch of Redang has a half dozen or more cheek to jowl resorts and a walk on the beach day or night would convince us that we picked the best. Coral Redang seemed to attract more of the European crowd. It is smaller and certainly way less noisy (some of the resorts have blaring discos at night and herd masses of guests on snorkeling trips during the day). The room was very clean, attractive, and certainly not luxurious but we had no complaints. And it was made up every day when we got back from the beach. The staff was friendly and Rose who works in the Dive Shop was particularly helpful and friendly. You are right on one of the most perfect white sand beaches Iâve ever seen and swimming and snorkeling are just steps away. The snorkeling trips included in our package were groups of 15 to 20 (far smaller than the other resorts) and the sites visited had amazing varieties of coral and fish. Meals were included and were better than I anticipated based on some earlier reviews here. All meals are buffet style. Meals were tasty, well prepared, and a good assortment was presented. Not gourmet but I looked forward to each meal and was never disappointed. Have been in Malaysia living and exploring for five months and this is now my favorite place â and the all-inclusive package is very good value for money."

Fantastic 4 Redang Stay
"Coral Redang is the place to be in Redang Island if you are looking for relaxation and wants to avoid the crowds. The staff hospitality are excellent. They are more like friends than just people providing good service. One of the staff named Arjuna went all out to make sure that our stay was comfortable. He even provided us with a contact for car rental in Kuala Terengganu which we got at a reasonable rate. The staff at the Dive Centre, Rosalind and Aung, were also very friendly. With them, we enjoyed and felt safe during the snorkelling trips. The only upset was the water supply would be off at around 9 in the morning. It could stretch for an hour. However, if you are going for a snorkelling trip, you'll be sparred. To sum up, the rooms are telling to leave to enjoy the beach and the sun. Well, that is what you are in Redang for."

"Quiet resort, set on a beautiful beach. The setting for this place is great. The weather there in March was perfect. We were there for a week with breakfast and room only. The breafast was good but nothing to shout about. We had one dinner there once again it was real good, but not great...really glad we didn't get a food inclusive package because it would have been a buffet that appeared to be repetitive. Also it was fun trying different places to eat in the evenings. Okay for the bad, The rooms are sub standard...not great ..the bathrooms are in need of redoing. Airconditioner worked great. Nice porche. There are two other resorts with nicer rooms on this island but you will be crowded. And have to listen to loud beach disco music at night if you stay there. And feel like your lost in the crowd. So don't book this place for the rooms...book it for location, uncrowedness, dive shop. The dive shop is great...also no mass snorkle-diving , like the other resorts on this island. So all in all would stay here again, if your expectations are not high for your room you will be happy."

The perfect balance between a bungalow and a resort
"Well mantained bungalow in a resort. It is not an huge awful structure, but have everything you need. Staff is more useful then friendly, but surely very efficient. Room (I sleep in detached chalet) was well maintained, restaurant is ok but little overpriced. Aircondition was perfect as bathroom. Many sunbed but sometimes not enough."

"I really liked this resort, staff is very friendly, rooms are clean and spacious, food is good (maybe a little boring if you stay for a week) and the free snorkeling is very helpful because you don't have to rent a taxy boat to find the best place for snorkeling. I loved also the pool, very relaxing after a day on the beach."

"Coral Redang was just what we wanted â chalet virtually on the beach, plenty of sunbeds, attractive resort, quiet, good bar. The cost of the accommodation was high but you pay for the location (gorgeous small island, beach and sea) rather than room facilities. The beach is sort of in two halves with Redang Holiday (busy resort with a lack of sunbeds and loud music at the bar) at one end and Laguna at the other. The half starting with Redang Holiday (this is the side that Coral is on) was a slightly nicer beach due to the lack of coral washed ashore. The accommodation is fairly basic and has seen better days but it was an attractive resort with hot water, aircon and fan, large clean room and bathroom. The pool was a nice alternative to the beach, the breakfast was good (western and eastern) and the dinner buffet was good too. We were here for 9 nights so the dinner got boring so we tried Laguna â their buffet was much larger but more costly and busy, but their a la carte restaurant was great!(try the pizza). Coral is a very quiet resort but there are lively bars in the surrounding resorts. (Redang Pelangi had karaoke and pool tables, next door to that was a bar with loud music, Redang Beach also played music along with the resort next to it, Laguna had a singers and a night club but was fairly quiet). The Coral bar had good cocktails and all the alcoholic beverages, they also did great fresh fruit juice (the apple was the most refreshing!). The drinks were cheaper than London but not dirt cheap eg beer about £2, cocktail about £3.50. The food is cheap but if you drink at the bar each night your costs will escalate. We had a large bottle of vodka in our suitcase so at the end of the evening we enjoyed a few drinks on our porch looking out to the ocean and listening to the waves â heavenly! This island is great for diving and snorkelling (or just relaxing), the dive centre was busy everyday. The resort also provides each person with a beach towel daily. There is a small shop, the resort next door has a larger shop, so you can pick up most things like snacks, headache tablets, sunscreen etc. There was also plenty of resident wild life. Our detached chalet with sea view (21) had squirrels, bats, gekos on the porch daily. There was also monkeys and large lizards on the grounds at the back by the stream."

"We stayed at Coral Redang for a week in May/June 2006 and are going back again next month - August 2008. As other reviewers have arleady piointed out, it's expensive but ideal for families. Fantastic diviing, chilled out atmosphere, safe, like Perhentian-lite. Great diving and fantastic coral reef - metres from the beach. Back of the chalets is home to large water monitor lizards and families of macaques - not particularly aggressive. Great beach front bar and genuinely friendly staff - especially those in the dive shop. Don't know if John and Ayie are still there but if you want to do any advanced diving courses in East Malaysia, couldn't recommend anywhere better. Good except tired, overpriced semi detached rooms.
"I just got back from 2N beach getaway with my other half in redang. Of all the hotels on the same beach, coral's ambience is the best. Its friendly, cozy, chill and laidback. The best thing about this place is they dont turn into cheesy R&B discotheque at night (as in redang pelangi, redang beach and redang bay resorts which were atrocious!) and they have a nice compound compared to the rest (unless if u want to pay more for berjaya redang resort on the other side of the island). Not only that, the place is free from group tours that go on mass snorkelling trips to the marine park all cramped into one boat. Coral is a family oriented resort. Mostly foreigners with kids. Im disappointed with the room that we got. Overall, all their rooms are tired and old. But they do have most of the basic necessities like a/c, water heater, safebox and small fridge. If u want to stay here request to be in a suite, detached chalet or even the brick chalet. You have to book months in advance to get the good rooms with double bed as they have mostly twins and bunk bed to cater for families. And some visitors wont budge for weeks. Dont ever get the semi detached chalet ESPECIALLY room 33. They have zero sound proof effect. Our room 33 was falling apart. It had cracked wall which was stuffed with ? toilet paper (refer to the pictures). My bf noticed that the whole unit (room 33 and its neighbor) was probably collapsing as the stilts appeared sinking into the ground. We could here clear voices of baby crying and scolding mothers from next door and also from our neighbours' chalet which wasnt detached from ours. As for food, we didnt take their buffet lunch and dinner. Breakfast was simple and acceptable. Ala carte was not bad but pricy if u were to stay long. I suggest to have dinner at 'summer point restaurant' at redang beach resort but bear their local whiny hip hop chinese band. They do have extensive cheap menu and good food. Other than the sad condition of the rooms, what i like about coral is their pool (can be packed with kids though), the fact that they have cushion deck chairs, cool bar with chill laidback music, small snorkelling groups, nice compound and away from the craziness of other chalets on that stretch. But if i were to return, i might splurge more and request for suite or detached chalet, or just stay at berjaya redang or spa resort since the price difference wont be too much anyways because clearly coral's room prices are to steep for what u get."

Really loved it, and want to go back.
"My husband and I stayed at the Coral Redang as part of our honeymoon. We chose it based on the reviews on this website, as it seemed to offer everything we wanted, i.e. beach chalets, small and intimate, dive centre, but was also based on a beach where we had the option to go and eat at / visit other places. It pretty much lived up to my expectations. I was really impressed with our chalet inside, although I was expecting to be closer to the beach. We did have a sea view from our door, though, and I was glad in the end as our chalet (detached) was probably one of the quietest as it was away from the bar area and had no neighbours that close. That said, it's not noisy resort at all, very peaceful, and I didn't hear any noise form neighbouring resorts. Food - we had a package for part of our stay that included buffet lunch and dinner. We got very bored very quickly and were glad we had the option to go elsewhere on the days we were just bed and breakfast. The buffet beakfast is fine and I enjoyed this. There are other places you can eat and it's worth a good wander along the beach and through the other resorts to see the options The bar - lovely location, really friendly staff, good cocktail selection Pool - nice, clean, good for respite from the sea should you need it. good for kids if you have them Dive centre - the divemaster (Matt) was excellent. I told him I was a nervous diver and he really took this on board during the dives. The equipment was a bit tired but functional. The beach - I loved it, white sand, crystal sea. really quiet. Excellent snorkelling in three separate places at the max 15 min walk from the resort (closest less than five mins). We found the snorkelling to be better than the diving at this time of year, seeing sharks, rays and turtles right off the beach. Staff - lovely and friendly. Very helpful when we missed our flight from the mainland. Extremely smooth trip from the the mainlad airport to the resort. Overall, it was great. The intimate size of the resort made it in my opinion the best on the island, although iif you want bells and whistles too there are larger resorts to chose from."

Loved the Coral Redang Resort
"My husband and I stayed at the Coral Redang Resort for 5 nights and just loved it. The staff are just fantastic and the food excellent. Lots of trees to give shade and the grounds are well maintained. I just have to mention that there is lawn. :) The monkeys, lizards and squirrels were an added treat."

Hotel located on a fantastic beach!
"Well as usual, hotels on islands in Asia are what they areâ¦..very different from mainland! Rooms here were not very cleaned. Bungalows are acceptable. Staff is OK but not exceptional. The restaurant is the best we had on the island even though very expensive for Malaysia. Hotel gives 35% discount for a child (which is appreciable). Now, the island is so beautiful, the beach is large; the water is clean, shallow and warm that you quickly forget the rest. Real paradise. Swimming pool is convenient and almost clean. Mainly frequented by Europeans and Americans families. Overall, I would say that this hotel is over priced, but if you compare with other hotels, it might be also the place to be on Redang."

Great Location, Rundown Rooms
"We stayed at the Coral Redang Resort on a 3 day, 2 night package. It was an absolutely amazing location -- beautiful beach, crystal clear water, good snorkeling and it had a nice pool. The restaurant looked great -- right on the water, but the food (buffet style, part of the package) was definitely hit or miss -- we had some bad meals. We booked one of the more expensive detached chalets -- but it was a pretty rundown room and not impressive. The sheets & blankets were stained and the bathroom was not that nice. It was overpriced, but if you do not do the package, it would have been reasonable. I would definitely NOT do the package deal. We ended up spending a lot of time at the Laguna Redang Island Resort--it looked great and the food was good."
