A great friendly atmosphere
"Mummy Bamboo House is in a great location just off the cliff path. The rooms are clean, basic and comfortable and our room had a lovely hammock and seating area outside for relaxing. Rani's banana pancakes were an absolute treat and Rani and her family were lovely. A great friendly place to stay while we were in Varkala. I would definitely go back and stay at the Mummy Bamboo House again. Such a lovely end to our holiday made it very difficult to leave!"

A warm welcome in Varkala
"We spent a very happy week at the Mummy Bamboo House over Christmas 2009. Rani and family run a delightful house very close to the cliffs, beach and restaurants of Varkala. Nice, clean rooms with mossie nets and fan. Rani's lunchtime Thali is delicious, and should not be missed. Definitely recommended."

"Very nice, clean stay, near the beach, restaurants and shops. The room was big enough, bathroom clean and spacious. You can sit on your own balcony during hot evenings. And the best - Rani's banana pancakes :)"

The warmest welcome in Varkala
"We stayed at Mummy Bamboo House twice during our travels around India- for a week in Dec 09 and then we came back for more in Jan 2010.
Mummy Bamboo House offers absolutely spotless comfortable rooms with good beds, fans, mozzie nets, a balcony and hammock and western style bathrooms at very reasonable rates- but you get much more than this when you stay there - absolutely fantastic service, wonderful chai, the best Kerelan homecooking for breaksfats, lunches and dinners (amazing Thali!) and the biggest warmest most sincere smiles in Varkala.
Rani is a divine 'Mummy' really made us feel like part of the family.
The location is perfect, set a little back from the main drag along the cliff front its away from the hubub but closer than most other accomodation to the steps down the cliff to the beach- there is also a thrice daily yoga class next door - very handy.
They also provide a first rate taxi and rickshaw service, Enfield rental at good rates and lots of local advice and help.
We have spent two months travelling around and had lots of positive experiences but the hopsitality here made it our favourite and we'd reccomend it to anyone."

Lovely family run place - great value and best food!
"We loved this place. It was true family hospitality - really friendly, fantastic service. Rani and Sudanhan were really friendly and helpful - and did everything very thoughtfully. The rooms are clean and great value for money - in a quiet area just behind the cliff front near the steps down to the beach - fantastic location: quiet and close to the activity.
It's a great place to relax and the food that Rani makes is the freshest and tastiest we have had in the area."

"Rani and her family really looked after us, taking us to local markets, temples, shopping centre and local restaurants for some of the best food we had in Kerala. Home cooking was superb (try the Fish Fry fantastic) I had a lot of fun helping and learning from Rani. I would advise anybody travelling to Varkala to stay here - you will experience the real India and the warm hospitality of its people like Rani. We will definitely stay here again and hopefully very soon."

Living Within the Indian Culture
"Mummy Bamboo House offers excellent service because the family who runs it is always near by and making sure your needs are met. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. What makes this motel unique is that you are staying right in the midst of real Indian living. Several generations of the family live around the motel so you feel like part of the family. Various family members will be going to work or school, driving cabs and rickshaws, going about their everyday life right around you. You end up NOT feeling like a tourist, but more like a family member living a typical Indian life. This experience was a highlight of our trip for us. Also it's only minutes away from the interesting shops on the Cliff and the beautiful beaches there."

Genuine Old Style Family Hospitality
"Staying at "MummyBambooHouse" (50m behind Varkala's North Cliff beach-path) reminded me of the "good old days" and how nice it used to be (20+ years ago) to stay in clean, safe, home-away-from-home, very friendly & affordable beach accommodation.
There's a special laid-back, easy-going, relaxed ambiance at Mummy's that's getting harder and harder to find these days as Kerala's beach-villages become more and more commercialised.
Fortunately, "Mummy" and her family remember what it used to be like . . . and offer much more than just a bed to sleep in. The rooms have loads of character, and Rani offers the most delicious home-cooked meals . . . from coconut-banana pancakes (Kerala style!) . . . to wheat puttu with green lentils . . . the best chai . . . and the most mouth-watering thalis . . . that just can't be compared with the beach front cafes!!
Definitey the place to stay!"

Amazing value and friendliness
"I was glad to see that the Mummy Bamboo House in Varkala is now listed in TripAdvisor as I went there last November and found that it offers exceptionally good value. It is clean and has an ideal location, being a few yards from the cliff and beach. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners and Raniâs cooking has to be the best in Varkala."
