"Excellent hotel and staff but..."
"Okay, so we (my wife and I) finally decided on visiting Manali. We had heard so much about Manali and booked a deluxe room for 3 nights/ 4 days at River Country. We drove down from Gurgaon and reached the hotel at 9:00am.
Our first impressions: 1) decent place, cute small garden, cozy lobby, pleasant staff, river flowing in front of the hotel with beautiful scenic mountains.
We had to wait for almost 90 minutes before we got our room (even though the hotel was half empty). That was inconvenient as we were dead tired of traveling for almost 16 hours.
The room was decent, although, the mattress was very hard and uncomfortable. Also the television set was very small (20 inches).
What we liked: 1) Breakfast was good. Dinner buffet was awesome.
What we did not like: 1). The walk from the hotel to the Mall road was annoying and pathetic. With all trucks parked in the way and many auto workshops, there was too much pollution and it felt very unsafe.
2). The Mall Road is a disgrace. There is no good restaurant here. We ate at 'Chopsticks' and the service was pathetic and rates were very high. I also got indigestion having food here and was bedridden for 1 complete day.
3). We could not use the garden at the hotel. They had a conference and hotel guests were not allowed there. (What a dissapointment).
4). Although there was a river in front of the hoyel, there was no way of going to its banks. Also, there was so much garbage there and the stink of dung all over was unbearable.
5). I really dis-liked us waiting at the reception after our long journey to get a room. We were very tired and would have appreciated the hotel staff giving us the room sooner.
6). Also, there was no vehicle to take hotel guests to the mall road and back. I asked for a vehicle to go to the mall road at 11am as I had to go see a doctor, but they just said NO... How rude...
All in all, although Manali is scenic, I feel it is not worth the time and energy one spends in travelling to reach there. I would rather go to Mussourie or Nanital or better yet to Sikkim or Bhutan"

Excellent Hotel to stay for a holiday in Manali
"This RIVER COUNTRY Hotel is one of the best places to stay in manali. The location is excellent just 2km from the Mall road, with the river Beas flowing infront beside the mountains full of snow. Just imagine the natural beauty...
The hotel, if not 5 star you will get a service which is above a 4 star hotel. the hotel interiors are rich, neat and clean and that too at a very reasonable price. The staff are well trained and courteous and buffet breakfast and dinner is nice with good and prompt room service.
Comparable with other star hotels in Manali and more importantly their pricing is much better and reasonable."

Nice hotel but over priced
"Stayed here in Oct for 3 days. The person checking us in was not welcoming at all. Took a very long time looking at the paperwork as if we were at the wrong place. Otherwise the room was nice although there was a lot of renovation going on at the 3rd floor. Our room was facing the river but the view was nothing nice, only garbage in view. Room faces the main road going into Manali and beyond the road is the river - so you will hear a lot of traffic noise during the summer if your window is left open. The breakfast was pretty extensive and good. Also used room service for sandwiches which was quite nice. The waiters working in the restaurant are also good. The place is quite expensive - many other places available far cheaper. This place is just about 2 miles short of Manali downtown. We tried walking into town from here which can be quite dangerous as there is not sidewalk just a muddy footpath with buses, trucks and taxis all racing past belching black desiel smoke into your face. Unfortunately, Manali is very polluted due to all sorts of vehicles coming into town with hardly any wide roads. Visiting this town once is enough for us."

Holiday turned hospital
"The hotel is absolutely contradictory to its name; the resort should be named not Quality Inn but Quality Out.
It's a great looking property.....but that's it.
The Front office manager is quite rude and should learn how to speak to the guest. The entire operations is mostly run with Trainees from Hotel Management institutes. So you know what to expect.
The food service is very slow and most of the time the food which is served is either cold or stale. Our entire group had food poisoning.
The discotheque is actually not a discotheque. It's a room with few chairs and the most bizarre thing is that you have to book the disc before hand."

Great Place to Stay in!
"After staying at a couple of other hotels on past visits, Quality Inn River Country resort was recommended for this particular trip. It turned out to be a great property with an excellent location overlooking the river and vast pine forests. The staff and the manager were warm and cooperative, and the rooms, well designed with interesting configurations. The room we stayed in was double room with a cosy mezzanine. The weather, upon our arrival turned spoilsport and it started to snow heavily and we couldnt venture out too much.
The excellent service and cooperation coupled with the well stocked restaurant and recreation room, made the trip worthwhile and the stay enjoyable in what would otherwise have a boring, dull couple of days.
They organised a bonfire in the snow and even an impromptu birthday bash for one person from our group! Finally, the weather opened up and the sun was out and we got to experience Manali in all its grandeur!. Kudos to the staff/management of the hotel for the making the trip enjoyable in spite of the bad weather!!"

Best in town
"The best hotel i stay in my life on hills..I never find such a good hotel with an amazing food, amazing services, amazing views any where on hills. Hotel provide you 5 star facilities with a 4 star category cheaper than radission hotel, manali.... Best location, easy to access.. The hotel G.M. Rohit Ahluwalia, is a cooperative person, and treat all his staff like a family and treat the visitor as a guest to his home...
One can really find it good, if u plan to go Manali.."

Pampered At Home Feeling
"My tryst with Manali started when I went for a belated Honeymoon in 1982! Since then I have been there for god knows how many times! But only in JAN 2008 did I feel that I was taken well care of. This RIVER COUNTRY Hotel is phenomenal. Imagine in a small place like Manali, the guys try to give you the best. A place where it is very difficult to get TRAINED WAITERS, more difficult to get tender chicken, we were served very well. It offered some very sexy views of the mountains and the snow! I remember that the young manager told me that a couple of rooms were out of service as they were in the process of changing the WCs in the toilets...only then did we realise that even the WCs had to be ordered from Chandigarh which is almost 300 Km downstream! Overall experience was so great that within the year we visited Manali TWO MORE TIMES and stayed with them again! If I am correct I have experienced staying in their Room Nos, 301, 303 and 403...all different designs but quite comfotable! And both these times it was not thru the travel agent...but the treatment was the same!! The housekeeping was very good, the food at the buffet was hot & excellent...and never measly! Even for local tours the guys were very helpful...and even told me that I could get slightly cheaper deals at the mall!...and that was surprising and my family just fell in love with these guys and the property!. Compared to the rest of the properties including some UPMARKET properties near the mall which we have experienced in the past, their tarriff -to-service/property is excellent. Such polite behaviour and prompt service, I have to admit, was missing in hotels of much higher stature in many parts of the country that we have used till date. Try their Continental and South Indian food. Morning breakfast is what my kids would wait for!"

"We stayed at the quality inn in the month of jan, which is probably the best time to experience the snowfall in manali. The view from the hotel of the river and the snow covered pine trees was truly beautiful. The hotel is located about one and a half kilometers from the "mall road".. a nice walk away. The rooms are nice and cosy but at the same time spacious. The management is very helpfull... they went out of their way to organize a bon-fire in the snow! The hotel lobby is charming with a fire place.. all in all, it was a nice enjoyable experience."

Decent Hotel, located away from the crowd but close to the centre
"Their beds are not the most comfortable and their bathrooms meet the basic requirements. While the Hotel by itself is not romantic, the mighty Beas river in front is soothing for those who might like the roar. Their buffets are standard/average but the restaurant can grill trouts on request. They have a few villas for large families that are quite good. A good choice if the budget suits you as there are few mid level hotels in Manali to choose from."
