Give it a Miss!
"Have visited Goa for the past few years including 2 stays at Gaffino's...............only because we got a great deal on the package and the amount of time you spend in the room is minimal. This year, we stayed at elsewhere but still met up on Gaffino's terrace for drinks with friends we see every year. Now you tell me, what kind of hotel has to send the waiters next door to the mini market because it runs out of rum, gin, tonic water and diet coke, and which beach shack owned by that hotel runs out of beer and more important in the Goan heat water? Yes, the more astute among us will have guessed.............Gaffino's and their beach shack Gigi's. Not only are the rooms basic, but they are dingy, mozzie ridden and in December hot enough to roast your Sunday joint. Yes they are cleaned daily and that is the only positive in the whole place. The staff appear to have a couldn't care less attitude, are slow and as a previous reviewer reports 'lack lustre' is probably the understaement of the year. I can only guess that others who applaud the service must be young eligible females who a certain waiter would jump through hoops for! The food at the beach shack this year was abyssmal and eventually the owner Bradley Gaffino stirred into action due to the amount of complaints and most of his customers having moved to alternate shacks. The attitude of the owner and staff over the theft from the safety deposit box of our friends was appalling. Strange that the money was changed at the hotel reception earlier in the day and, it was overheard during a conversation of staff members that they consider our insurance will cover all losses! Come on Bradley Gaffino, it's time you sorted both your hotel and staff out. Only stay there if you are desperate, and if you are, go and doss down in one of the shacks, the service will be better and the surroundings much more pleasant!"

"We have visited Goa for the past 6 years and enjoyed meeting on the terrace at Gaffinos for sundowners. We have made many friends in Cavelossim and meet up every year. However this year was marred by the theft from a safety deposit box of a dear friend.400 pounds that had been changed to Rupees had been stolen and the rest of the contents left untouched.A valuable watch, camera and quite a lot of sterling. When the people who were robbed reported it to the police, Gaffino's went beserk at them.Somehow the police convinced the victim to say the money was lost on the beach. Like your'e gonna take 400 quid in rupes to the beach.Anyway it became common knowledge that this has happened lots of times according to one of the senior waiters and their attitude was quote "Well they get it back on insurance".And it's normally older people that are targeted.the year before an older gent had 800 stolen in the same way, and couldn't bear to stay there any longer. So he moved around to Octimas hotel in disgust. Now it,s not rocket science to work out whats going on there and you would think that Gaffinos by now would have installed a cctv camera on the boxes, which incedentally are situated halfway up the stairs in the hallway. Why not have them in reception? I would strongly advise anyone visiting Gaffinos to keep a very close eye on your Rupes. Just as a little footnote. The average wage for a waiter is around a R1000 a month.A couple of them had purchased a new Suziki car whilst we were there to use as a taxi? hhmmmm?? Finally, Octimas Hotel and Restaurant are Brilliant"

"my husband and i have hired villas previously and found gaffinos a little basic but offered fantastic friendly goan hospitality at very basic prices. locals used the place all the time ( which inspired confidence ) lack of pool not a problem as there sister hotel five minutes down the road did. also the beach is less than ten minutes walk. gaffinos does have its own beach shack with great theme nights. as we booked thorugh tour operator we were unable to chose rooms, you can hire a fridge and a/c at a small extra cost but it would be nice to be able to specify an upgrade at time of booking. do not get room 102 as it does not have a window ! all in gaffinos is in a great location , clean and hosptitable. look forward to our next visit patsy and derek "

"Having read a few reviews of the Gaffinos and been to Goa a few times I did go with an open mind, the rooms are cleaned daily with new towels, however... There is a staff problem here, lacklusture, lazy, passing the wrong information to us etc.. even for 2 star very poor service, Eg, Staff with their head down on the reception desk and bar, requests met with a bemused look, like extra pillows please, what time does the rep come, and what is allowed on the breakfast menue... it all seemed like a lot of bother to them. We were told the rep came daily, he did not, (by appointment only) We paid more for items of breakfast that were not continental, ie toast coffee etc.. The early pick up time was given to us wrong, resulting in an embarassing coach wait outside.... (the rep should leave a note on the wall) Dogs do bark a lot in the street and next door, the rooms are not mozzy proof with air vents above the doors, we were bitten! We payed a lot by Goa standards to up grade the room to air con, a must in April, the beach down there is one of the best in Goa, but the town is dead, go visit palolem beach for a while, or travel as we did and use places like this as a base, Check out the Panjim Inn in Panjim, the foods the same price as here but what a difference in service, We have stopped in other 1 and 2 star accomodation in Goa before but found this one pretty poor, do yourself a favour give the GAFF a miss!!!!"

"Yes this is a basic hotel but it was cleaned everyday, the rooms we stayed in had clean sheets and towels everyday as well. A shower "wet" room would have been a better choice for the bathroom, the staff were excellent very polite and eager to help. but lets talk about the food for a while the best choice of English food and the best pie's we have had outside of Britain anywhere in the world and i've done Australia ! The Sunday lunch was massive and beautiful a leg of pork between two !!! Take your own gravy though. the Indian food was the same as you get in most British places, get George the taxi driver to take you to some authentic Indian eateries the breakfast dossa in Margao was brill an so cheap. Stay away from room 102 no window!!! The main problem for us was no pool!!! We drove up and down the coast and found this village the best one for our taste warm friendly people all over. We can't wait to go back again for the fourth time. "

"Myself, husband and 2 children age 13 and 14 stayed at Gaffinos for the first time this year and i can honestly say it was a fantastic experience. From the minute we arrived Jeevan and the staff could not do enough for us, the rooms are very basic but were cleaned everyday and fresh linen left daily. The food was fantastic especially the king prawns and red snapper. I would also reccomend GGs, Rose and the boys make you feel very welcome as do Tim and Sue in the Port O call in the near by Mobor Beach Hotel. A ride in the hotels resident taxi cab is a must, George is a fantastic guide and i can guarantee you will not of experienced anything like it in Britain. Overall it was a brilliant holiday, we made many new friends from both India and Britain so much so we are going back in 2008."

"Hi my partner and I stayed at Gaffinos for two weeks and had a brilliant stay very friendly staff very helpful. The food is superb as they have a downstairs restaurant. Which is also used by a lot of tourists who do not even reside at Gaffinos. The maid service is great clean linen every day rooms cleaned every day. It is also just a ten minute walk to the beach. Highly recommend it for a stay. Mikkie "
