"We stayed at the prazeres for 4 weeks. On arrival all seemed well until I folded back the sheets and pillow cases, they were badly stained towels were also really bad. I phoned house keeping and they brought some more up, but to be truthful weren't much better. Then the RUSSIANS arrived and what a might mere that turned out to be. We were given rooms above the bar but the noise was so bad from them drinking bottle of need whisky 24hrs and shouting,I don't think they know how to actually speak to each other. Then came the throwing of the chairs, themselves and sunbeds in the pool they also took beer bottles in the pool while young children were trying to swim. It was just too much. We did manage get our room changed but we were moved into a dark no sun room.As we had had no sleep for 3 nights we just took it. We complained to the management but I think they were quite frightened to confront the RUSSIANS as they were so aggressive. This hotel could be really nice if it were updated cleaned and kept in control."

"If you think about going to the prazeres dont think again!!!!!!!!!! 2 nights out of a fortnights holiday where we got some sleep due to rude arrogant russians partying 24/7 was told that the russians don't complain maybe that's because its was them that were making all the noise!!!! and have the preferential treatment from manager who was often in the company of the russian ladies(drunk.house keeping left a lot to be desired 11 days before bed changed, towels twice in a fortnight, were told we should ask for our rooms to be cleaned and for fresh towels we did on numerous occasions to no avail, dirty dishes left outside peoples rooms in corridors,blood up the side of walls, another guest room had flea bites and something had eaten her clothes in the drawers that were provided. The only thing that was good about the hotel all together was the breakfast chef who gave you a lovely smile and actually talked to you,even tho the russians were taking multiple toasts and whole loaves of bread, he tried his best to give you what you wanted.maybe a change of management is what is needed"

"I think the prazers is one of the best hotels in Goa the staff are so polite and nothing is to much trouble, the breakfast chef has a smile as big as Goa.
Raul the owner is so kind and helpful he goes his way to help everyone, the hotel is the cleanest in Goa. I would never stay anywhere else. look forward to seeing you all soon love Garth and Jean xx"

"This was our 7th time in goa and had always avoided the prazares mainly due to the reviews on sites like these.
we stayed 3 weeks in november 2009 .
the hotel was excellent fantastic pool fantastic staff and rooms were cleaned daily to a very high standard.
as the shacks on the beach were not open we spent more time in hotel than we would normally ,the food was of a very good standard and cheaper than a lot of the shacks.
raol the owner was a pleasure to meet and with the new poolbar opening whilst we were there we were treated fantastically.entertainment was provided and we had a fantastic day .
we will be back in goa in march 2010 and we won't hesitate to stay in the prazeres again and again.

"PLEASE REMOVE MY REVIEW DATED FEBRUARY 2007 - We returned in November 2007 and had an enjoyable holiday and booked again for a 3 week stay February 2008.

This time it was not enjoyable - it was a total nightmare. Loud music played on well after midnight on many occasions and sometimes went on until after 2am. The worst night was Friday 22nd Feb when live music continued until 2.40am and then the disco started. At 3.45am i heard a man screaming and went out on to the balcony, where i witnessed a very nasty assault. Three or four men were violenty kicking a man who was lying on the floor. When i went down to reception to complain the night manager said to me "Madam, perhaps you are upset, because you have had a long hard day on the beach". I pointed out that i was upset because i had just witnessed an assault and because the music was still playing at 3.45am. The music was turned down for a couple of hours but shortly after 6.00am it was turned up again. We later found out that the person responsible for this was Raul, the owner. At 9.00am Raul and his friends took over the pool area. They had been drinking all night and were still drinking, whilst jumping in and out of the pool. We phoned Olympic and were moved that day to another hotel.

We still had 8 days left and the Prazeres refused to refund monies we had paid out for a safety deposit box and air conditioning. The cost of the safety deposit box was 200 rupees per night - which is a total rip off. The hotel we moved to charged about 25 rupees per night.

We were sorry to leave the Prazeres, as it was my fourth visit. However, the behaviour of the owner and his friends and their total disregard for the welfare of the hotel guests was totally unacceptable. "

"Just back from two weeks (first time in Goa) staying at Prazeres Hotel.

Generally, I would agree with most of the comments made in previous reviews. Our room was basic but clean although we constantly had to request clean towels and toilet rolls. The bar staff, poolside attendants etc were great- very attentive.

The downside though was the reception staff who constantly never had the full amount when exchanging money. We eventually realised, from other guests, that this is a scam. A similar situation occurred when paying for phone calls. Although it was only 20 or 30 rupees each time, and I would have willingly tipped much more, I would have rather have given the money to the disabled beggars at the markets than have it skimmed off by the reception staff. The ploy backfired on them though as, when we checked out neither we nor our fellow guests left any tip for the reception staff. All tips went to the waiters, pool staff etc.

Watch when checking in. A 1000 rupee deposit is requested for the room key. Some guests experienced difficulty in getting this back. I simply refused to give the reception staff the key until the money was returned to me.

Some guests were given rooms with no air-con (a must). They were then charged 400 rupees per night per person for this facility. I would advise anyone proposing to stay at this hotel to obtain, in writing, exactly what facilities are included in their costs.

The money exchange rate at the hotel is poor. Best to change money at the "Elephant Shop" at the top of the road.

I found Goa a great place to visit, and will definitely be returning. I may even stay at the Prezares again but if I do, I will be much more mindful of the dodgy management tricks.

One final tip, do not subscribe to the tour reps trips. They are vastly overpriced and can be organised quite easily direct with a taxi driver and a local agent.

"I travelled to the Prazeres Resort in November 2006. Basically, you get what you pay for. I travelled with my sister and our partners and we stayed in the first block above the reception (the old part). I have been to Goa before so I knew what to expect.

The hotel was OK. It was clean and the room boys are just great. The decor at the hotel is a tad depressing and our rooms were particularly dark but we only used the room as a base any way so it didn’t bother us.

We could have complained and asked to be moved to the newer part of the hotel but we are all in our 20s and decided not to make a fuss, as we didn’t want to get off to a bad start.

The pool area and the bar area are great and are all decorated well. All in all I would stay at this hotel again if it came up for the right price. It is in a good location, just off the Candolim Road but far enough from the hustle and bustle of the sellers on the main road etc... Candolim is a quieter resort (however it has just as many pubs etc... just isnt as wild) than Calungute and Baga but all are easily accessible by a taxi ride for about 100 rups.

Just remember you are in a third world country so be grateful if you want luxury - don’t go to Goa or choose a 5* instead. It is true you either love the place or hate it. I love it.

"We have stayed at this hotel 5 times in the past and have always found it to be fantastic, except that it has now really gone downhill.

The staff used to be great; in fact, they were the hotel's greatest asset. Now, most of the original staff have left & the new ones are, frankly, appalling.

With the exceptions of the man who runs the shop & Tony the barman, who are both excellent at their jobs, the rest of the staff are now dreadful.

Watch out for changing money at the reception.

Also, even though this hotel is quite basic by Western standards, it used to be acceptably clean. Not now.

The rooms aren't cleaned properly any more. We had to ask for our towels to be changed, & worst of all, there were rats in the stairwells.

We reported this and they seemed to know that they were there, well gid rid of them!

Goa itself is a fantastic place, & we will certainly return there again, but never ever to Prazeres.

There are many great hotels in Goa, stay at one of the others. This one no longer deserves business. It will never get ours again."

"Candolim is an excellent resort, loads of nice restaurants and bars, people are so friendly.

Hotel was clean but very basic, but you cant fault the staff, they were superb - extremely helpful and always friendly and smiling. Loved it! Go see our friends Joseph and Prem at the Casa Seashell Restaurant - we had superb service there and loved the food.

Best holiday so far in Goa. Ania and Cara."

"We go to Prazeres every year and will continue to do so, every visit is absolutely fantastic, would recommend the hotel every time.

We have stayed in others to give them a try but half way through our last holiday we packed our bags and returned to Prazeres for the rest of our holiday. The staff and owner are always cheerful and more than willing to assist in any situation, cannot praise it enough, we go again Jan 2007, looking forward to it again."

"We have just returned from the Prazeres Hotel in Candolim. The holiday was outstanding, probably the best we've ever had. The staff were exceptional, they were always smiling and are always happy to help.

The rooms were cleaned every day, they made different designs with the towels. There was only a bit of entertainment as it was the start of the season although that didn't stop them surprising my husband with a birthday cake and a live singer (Jonny) he was great, we all danced and so did the waiters. The staff here are great especially the waiter morne he just made us laugh all day every day. The rest of the staff were very friendly as well Salou the bar man always smiling.

The managers Gurudaas and Tony and of cause the owner Rahul a very down to earth person. The taxi drivers were also very helpful, we recommend Bernard he stayed with us for hours while we shopped in Panjim. The only downfall I would say was probably a bit too hot for us, so we are planning to go back Christmas 2007 and that is of cause to the Pazeres Hotel.

Will definitely recommend this hotel to all. Places I recommend for food are The Midaas touch, Royal foods, Sweet Chillie and Dehli Darbar."

"Prazeres is a basic but very clean resort, where the staff are all pleasant helpful but most of all respectful.

The rooms are basic with shower and WC facilities and most rooms have a fridge, but they are really clean and the dedicated room boys do a fantastic job every day when cleaning your room, and all of them can be trusted 100%.

We should say however that some of the room in the Prazeres are relatively close to the bar area, which can get a little bit noisy in the late evening ( But hey people are on holiday to enjoy themselves, so why not join them).

The initial impressions of the country can be a bit of a culture shock to many European visitors who come to Goa with some pre conceived idea that this relatively poor country should be on a par with other European resorts. However if they are prepared to give it a try and accept that the conditions are what the locals are used to and that they don't know anything else, but they are only to willing to accommodate the visitors to their country, Then they should have a totally relaxed holiday experience."
