fantastic hotel with great staff
"myself, wife and my son came here for a 2 week chilled out holiday and we got that and a lot more than we expected, The hotel is in good location,2 mins to shops,Bars and 5 mins to beach, the foods is fantastic and is not buffet style, its from a very good menu choice and all freshly cooked, Rooms are basic but cleaned every day.Good pool area a slight lack of sunny beds but we did not have any problem getting one.the staff here will do anything to make your stay one to remember, sonny, walter, paulo, pritesh, david and all the rest of the staff,oh yeah and naz who works in the rooftop bar, we had a great holiday and are planning to go back same time next year for the wife 40th"

"after only ever going 4/5 star holidays we took a gamble on stopping in this3 star accomodation.i can honestly say i have never been in any hotel on my travels where the staff were so amazing from the minute we arrived till recieving our packed lunch for the journey home i have nothing but admiration for all staff members. i now know why so many people return to this hotel it was my first visit but not my last i already looking to go back in jan 2010.the food is amazing not buffet but chosen from an extensive menu cooked for you.the clientel in the hotel were brilliant majority british but the older end there was a great atmosphere all around the hotel.paul , david ,and pritesh were amazingly nice has were all the staff .spent time at the big bannana shack on baga beach the food was lovely if any readers have any doubts about this place forget them you will have a great time."

"Hotel Santiago, Well what can i say apart from Brilliant Had a fantatstic two weeks in this hotel made lots of friends here, everyone is really friendly from the minute we arrived, a special thankyou to Lawerence who always looked after us at meal times he was always ready to top your drinks up without having to ask. Stayed at the sister hotel the Horizon this year, which is suppose to be a 3 star but does not compare to this hotel the staff are a lot better at the Santiago. Will be coming back to the Santiago this year 2009 just booked and can not wait to see everybody agin. Please do not hesitate to book this hotel, most hotels in India are very bassic but rooms are clean and the staff make up for everything in this hotel. Have a brill time i no you will not be dissapointed. Lisa + Andrew (Manchester)"

"First time to Goa, stayed at the Santiago it was brilliant, the staff were amazing and made our holiday special. The rooms were kept spotless and nothing was too much trouble for anyone of the members of staff. The food at the hotel was excellent and a good choice was served. We cannot thank the staff enough for making our stay at the Santiago so good that on our return to England we booked again the next day for Christmas and new year 2008/2009 The trips to the Waterfalls is well worth a visit also the coach/boat trip to Old Goa and Pajim the tour guides were excellent, we also went on the trip which took us into the jungle to stay with the elephants this was fantastic, an experience that will never be forgotten. Our rep Simi was lovely and she made sure we were comfortable and enjoying our holiday, and she even called us to wish us happy new year, The Christmas celebrations in the hotel was good itâs something else seeing Father Christmas arrive on a push bike. Overall had a great time and we canât wait to go back, just to say a big thank you to all the staff. From Paul and Julie."

"We have just had the most wonderful two weeks in Calangute based at the Hotel Santiago. I would echo the comments of fellow residents in saying that the staff (although they all become friends) are the shining star of this relaxing and laid back hotel. The rooms are spotless because they are serviced daily. Food is excellent, as other have commented you can get most styles here, Goan, English, (why?) Thai, Chinese. The chef in the Chinese gracefully swapped skills as we showed him how to make Irish coffees and he let us into the kitchen to make banana toffee coated rolls. Without doubt, I will certainly aim to get to this hotel again. I understand that the return rate is 98.7%, I can easily understand why. A very safe place to rest too as the entrance has 24 Hr concierge. Hope that you enjoy your stay as much as we did. "

"Although you could not fault the staff at this hotel or the food, the accommodation was the very basic of basic. Also, everyone at the hotel seemed too plagued with mosquito bites, the windows in the bathrooms did not fit so they were coming into the rooms through the spaces all around the window frame. Although this has nothing to do with the hotel, the flights were just the basic size seats that are used for short haul flights. I would have thought that the seats should have been a larger size, the normal as it was a 10 hour flight. "

"This was an excellent holiday, basic accommodation but everything you need. Your never in the room only to sleep and shower. Good position just off the main road and about 10min stroll to the beach, you can get taxi down to the beach for 50 rupees. The only problem we have with Goa is we want to book again for this year and it has doubled in price, but definitely go."

"Just arrived back from our first time in Goa.Booked holiday at last minute-literally and had been told that Goa was so cheap to eat and drink out that should not go all-inclusive...however-food was good. Only actually made it to breakfast 3x in week due to Nez and David at hotel feeding us endless drinks..Hotel staff were very friendly-they could not do enough for you.Same as anywhere in the world-if you are courteous and polite to them then you will receive the same back. Meal at night(didn't have in day-sorry can't comment!)-as many have already said was lovely-you have the choice of plenty of food and as you've paid for it you don't really need to go out. We did eat out once in the week at Hot Plate-very nice food and staff. Didn't stay at the pool in the day-far too hot and lack of sun by lunch-so also wandered to beach and was looked after by Unkle at Big Banana! Hotel is somewhere where people go back to-even British Indians- year after year. Rooms were clean-ours was a bit musky at first but soon went. I would only say bring your own towels to shower with, as the ones at the hotel, when drying yourself ,would exfoliate your skin! Excellent holiday, hotel, people and country!"

An enjoyable experience
"From Aman, Dal, Gurdeep and Mahmuda We visited Goa during the first week of April and stayed at Santiago hotel. We had a fantastic time there as we were made to feel extremely welcome. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly. All the waiters and bar staff in both restaurants were vey friendly, they made us feel like we were part of a family and nothing was too much trouble for them. Thank you to Pritesh, Lawrence, Walter, Samarjeet, Mohan, David, Alex and the others. The food in both restaurants was always freshly made. There was a good selection and it tasted delicious. Be prepared for rooms to be fairly basic as most of the hotels in north Goa are. However the exterior and the hospitality of the staff more than made up for it. The hotel has a friendly and warm atmosphere and we would reccomend it to anyone."

Worse than a budget hotel
"We are just back from staying at Santiago and are very unimpressed with the hotel. First of all itâs definitely not a 3 star hotel as it is widely advertised. When we asked for some water to be delivered in our room, the staff curtly responded âWe donât provide any room serviceâ Huh! Even a family run guesthouse provides Water to its guests. We never felt lonely in our rooms as some pest or the other was there to give us company. On two consecutive days we found small cockroaches enjoying the luxury of our beds. The pool is small with just 3-4 sun beds, also pool towels are no where in sight and had to be asked for repeatedly. To give them due credit the breakfast spread was good (we skipped other meals at the hotel) but were shocked to see staffs behavior. The staff would make snide comments and joked about British and European guests in local dialect, which they of course did not understand. The hotel seems popular with charters from UK and other countries hence there were a large number of British guests occupying the hotel. There were other guests who were seen complaining about rooms and service but staff would just shrug and go about doing their thing. If all 3 stars hotels in Goa are like Santiago, then we are not going in them and will advise you to avoid it too"
