Estrela Do Mar Beach Resort
10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"This is honestly the worst hotel i have stayed at. It is rated by travelocity as a 3 star but i would say it is not even worthy of one star. We were given a damp room at first. Bed linen had stains so did the towels. Second room was ok meaning no dampness. but again stained linen etc.We managed through the night using multiple locks on our bags and used all available locks on the doors/windows. Pool was not in use because it had mould all around it. The beach was walking distance but very isolated. Not good at all. This hotel should be shut down. Will not recommend this hotel to anybody travelling to goa. It was my first time to goa and probably my worst holiday ever. We eventually booked alternate accomodation for the rest of our stay and loved it. Case da Goa is beautiful."

Patheitc Resort. Very Unhygenic. Very Unprofessional and UNFRIENDLY
"Hi All, I was in goa in first week of April 2008. The website shows very nice pics of resort, so i made the advance booking but this is pathetic resort. and they got some foreign tourist at the same time so even i had an advance booking, they shifted me to some other more ugly resort and said your booking is not confirmed. DON'T MAKE ANY ADVANCE BOOKING FOR THIS RESORT, and when you will go there and see this you will not like to stay in this resort at all :-) Regards"

The only thing that is clean is your bed linen and towels....
"If you are looking for something very basic, then this is the place for you. The rooms are old looking and need a paint job, the floor looks like its always dirty, but its just holes in the floor. The bed linen is clean and so are the towels, but that is the only thing that is! Breakfast is served between 7.30-930am, you get a choice of toast or toast and hot juice. If you get there at 920am they tell you they have finished serving breakfast, not fair at all. Dont go near the swimming pool it looks like it has never been cleaned before. The hotels "private beach" is awful, its full of locals sittng right next to you staring and asking for money. You cant be in peace because every 2 seconds someone is trying to sell you something. There is alot of very loud work going on in the hotel and they cut of the A/C and fans during the day cause there doing work, but dont tell you until you asked. Its a real shame because the hotel has got real potential! Its just needs a few changes and cleaned from top to bottom and looked after by staff."

"We stayed at this hotel in december 07 for our honeymoon the hotel room was clean but basic and its right by the beach which in its self is a good thing cos we went to have a look at some of the hotels like the NIZMAR & TICLO and you've got no chance of getting asleep right on the main road which is very busy. The hotel food wasn't nice and we where the only English people that was staying at the hotel. I will warn the faint hearted though if you've never been here before perpare yourself cos its a big eye-opener poverty, begging, hassled on the beach you buy this you have a look at my stuff just learn to say no straight away and don't be taken in by GITA AND HER FAMILY & ALAN THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO RIP YOU OFF BUY IN THE MARKET. The best place to eat is East Meets West (Fillet Steak with Chips 300 Rupees about £4). Don't book your trips with the Travel Company book them over there cos they just rip you off they wanted £48 per couple to go to Adjuna Market when we got a taxi for 400 Rupee's that took us there & back and he waits for as long as you want him to for just £5 big difference. Also the Water Falls is about 3 hours away and the roads are not very good and you only spend about 45 mins at the falls then feed the monkeys then its back you come, Elephant and Spice Plantation was good would recommend. Any Questions just ask"

"As this was our first visit to india, We tought this hotel was great, ok the first room was damp but what do you expect when they have monsoons, but we were given a choice of othere rooms and took one right next to swiming pool, with two children this was realy handy, out the room straight into swimming pool. we did not spend all our time in the hotel. only as a base realy. As we like to go out and see diffrent things. we did not have breakfast there as we like to try local places like the salt & pepper. But found the staff lovely and friendly and the room was spottless every day and nothing went astray. the pool was cleaned and topped up every morning The kids realy enjoyed there stay which is unusal for my kids, we are planning to go back next year for three weeks this time. so staff be warned stuart & cameron are coming back. We did eat in the hotel we used room service the spring rolls & fruit filled pancakes were lovely, and they managed to get the coffee just the way i liked it strong. cant wait to go back. we thought calangute was lovely and only a 15 minute walk to baga beach. We had the same taxi driver for two weeks we were there and went all different places it worked out a lot cheaper than going on thomson excursions to the same places."

great friendly staffs!
"the hotel itself isn't as i expected: the room & swimming pool doesn't look like the picture advertised, but the room & bathroom itself are clean which are the main important thing for us, as we only needed a pad to crash! I quickly realise that the staffs were all amazingly friendly, in a genuine way! They all helped us out, even at 3am when i felt a bit hungry. We had a good laugh with the staffs there. Everyday, we came back to our room with a surprise: we would get elephant, swan, boat, etc shaped towel. We loved it! Summary: basic clean room, but amazing staffs! I would stay there again for the friendly staffs!"

"what a place. great rooms!! The rooms had soothing white linen and spring beds which were out of the world (as far as goa is concerned). I had couple of my friends staying in other hotels and resorts (in total a group of 13), and all of them when came over to this resort where we were stayin and were surprised to see such a cozy and a comfortable place that they had missed. After a look there all wanted to shift in but unfortunately only 3 more rooms were available...all in all great staff, service and BEST rooms....cheers to the resort-will and have already recommend this place of all....."

Worst hotel i ever stayed in
"Having just returned from this hotel I can honestly say its the worst hotel I have ever stayed in - and I am a seasoned traveller! The rooms were not as advertised - we booked a superior room The ceiling of bedroom & bathroom was black with damp- also smelly after being closed all day The breakfast restaurant was swarming with flies - especially around the food preparation area- I saw a waiter pick a dead fly out of a glass of fruit juice and then serve to a guest The plastic tables were engrained with dirt - needed a good scrub with bleach The pool was dirty and the surrounding areas were never cleaned The bar was never well stocked - couldnt even get a bottle of cold water ! and the old tables were just planks of wood and also seating area was very muddy - not a pleasant place to sit ! The brochure and website advertised internet facilities -- NO - always when we asked every day the internet wasdown - although the receptionist was always using the computer. We had the added misfortune of being next to the stairway - all night long people up & down the stairs and banging doors. Also the 24 hour taxi service was right under our room - with the drivers talking all night & playing music The walkway to the beach was a rubbish tip and the locals using this as their " toilet "- extremely smelly and very un hygenic. The only good thing about this hotel was the lovely comfy bed with thick new mattress and clean bed linen & towels daily. Dont know how this got a 2 star plus rating with Thomson"

Goa is sweeeet, I wanna be a hippy and i wanna get....
"Yeah the hotel rocked. Was simple and friendly. Cheap and cheerful. Althougth it has a terrible band that play once a week and blatantly mime the guitar and sing badly. But this added to the experience and in some way goes with the whole feeling of Goa. Ahhhhh,, Goa, bless it's little cottons...."

Great place to stay in between Baga and Calangute
"We have just come back from Goa on our first trip there and are really impressed. Already planning next years trip! We had some reservations about the Estrela Do mar as it was shown as only 2* but all concerns were banished the moment we arrived. Great location as it was in between Baga and Calangute (Calangute was a bit too manic for us, nice to visit wouldn't of wanted to be in the centre though), 5 mins walk from the beach so you get best of both worlds in terms of access to day/night time shacks plus only 5 mins walk from the bars, shops and restaurants in the town. The hotel was extremely clean and all staff were very helpful. Would recommend and would stay there again."
