Excellent Beach Location in Goa
"The location of this hotel is excellent, just on the calangute beach. Hospitality is also very good, but we found the hotel staff little slow (or lazier kind). For breakfast/snacks, there is some delhi restaurant just opposite to street and we liked it very much. Lunch/dinner in the Sagar restaurant just opposite is OK, but that is Pureveg."

Perfect location & facility; Good people
"We had being to Goa between 18th to 21st Sept. It was perfect time to be there - Tourist season was on the verge of starting but only few people hence easy availability of hotels & recreation facilities. We drived directly from Dambolim airport to Calangute Residency by hired car which takes around Rs 480/- for roughly 48kms distance - fair. We stayed in Calangute Residency for 3nights/4 days. It's a hotel really at aperfect location - No doubt. Just next to the famous Calangute beach. You have to take off your shoes in your room & just walk down on the beach. Return back as it is condition. Perfectly no issue. As property belongs to GTDC you can book your room through GTDC website which is frendly to use except payment mode. They also do confirm our booking well in advance. It tok 2-3 minutes to check in. We had taken up cottage room which is magnificant. May be they lag in Maintenance of the property (may be being a government hotel) otherwise it is very good. Big rooms, huge centre garden with walking tracks, big centre swimming pool, restaurant facing the beach etc. We enjoyed the stay for next 3N/4Days. Room Service is ok. They take some time to revert. Food Quality is ok. Hygiene is average good hence needs to be taken care of especially for small childrens. Reception as well as the tour Management persons are really good. In available limited authorities they try their Best. For second day we had booked North goa tour & third day was for South Goa all conduted by GTDC. Tour staff was very good in all senses. They guide you for many good things including shopping. Third day night was booked on GTDC cruise boat which was also fantastic. Entire family enjoyed the Goa trip. Fourth full day was exclusive for Calangute beach. By evening we left for the Airport to catch up for regular scheduled World."

What a beachside location !!!
"Absolutely fantastic location....bang on the beach and in the midst of all activity. Restaurants and shops lined up all along the road. Rooms are great, spacious, comfortable and as we stayed on the sea facing 1st floor room with the great balcony - it was just suppp...erb. Service is just so-so. Cleanliness of rooms is good but lot to be desired otherwise in the rest of the hotel. Don't expect private hotel like courtseys and pampering -it's a govt facilty after all. Restaurant Blue Bay with live band and a sea facing seating is OK - nothing great. Don't miss out on the absolutely fantastic Tibetan restaurant a few meters down the road. One of the best places to stay in Goa no doubt - frolic on the beach, any time ...come back take a shower near the swimming pool and jump into the pool for a refresher."

Right on the beach!
"The hotel is situated right on the Calangute beach. Fabulous location no doubt! We had booked an "AC-Resort room" which had an awesome seafacing balcony. That alone made our trip. After all we go there to enjoy the sea right! It is a govt hotel. The moment we checked in there were some hitches - like phone not working, no water in bathroom, no towels. We had to call them repeatedly and nevertheless - things happened. Housekeeping happened without any issues ... The resturant too has a nice view of the sea . Food is not too great. They had a live concert from around 5-10 pm over there. It can be a wonderful way to pass time. Overall services were good considering it was a govt hotel! I enjoyed the stay and would surely recommend it."

Ooh La La
"I was in Goa from 26 Sep to 01 Oct 09. It was a fantastic trip. Icing on the cake was the hotel accommodation - Calangute Residency. Bang on the beach. View from the room was incredible. The rooms, recently renovated, were luxuriously furnished. The staff was friendly without being obsequious. The newly laid swimming pool, with its shower cubicles proving very convenient for a quick bath, was a great value addition. Please book well in advance as the hotel is in demand all through the year. A portion of the hotel is yet to be renovated, try to avoid it. Also, among the cottages the rooms on ground floor are bigger and better furnished. So if you are more than two ask for ground floor. For a couple the first floor accommodation is ideal. The hotel has a restaurant - Blue Bay. Nothing much. Avoid it if you can. Plenty of choices are available as Calangute Residency is bang on the main road and is surrounded by umpteen number of restaurants offering delicious fare. Prices are a bit steep though. Sagar is good for veg food. My advice for people visiting Goa. Go for Calangute Residency with your eyes closed. You will relish the experience. The location of the location was heavenly. One could have a leisurely dip in the sea, come to the hotel in the same bathing costume, take a shower in the swimming pool cubicles, and jump into the pool for yet another dip."

Good Stay, Good Experience
"The Calangute Residency is in fact owned by GTDC alongwith few more branches in different parts of Goa including Panjim, Mapusa, Colva and others. The stay and experience at the hotel was good, the service was average, the main advantage was of the close proximity to the beach. Sea food was amazing and that goes without saying, never miss out on that one. Also, not forgetting quality liquor at good and cheaper prices."

Excellent location of hotel, excellent AC deluxe rooms, good affordable food
"The good: This is a goverment hotel located right on the Calangute Beach; in terms of location, it just can't get better than this. The AC deluxe rooms are clean and comfortable, with private sea-facing balconies having splendid views of the sea. You can just sit here, gaze at the waters and relax :). Hotel has a nice restaurant as well on the ground floor, and room service is available too. Food/Beverage prices are at par with any of the beach shacks. We were a gang of 13 friends, and although we couldnt do any water sports due to the weather (it was raining), we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The bad: The AC was not working in some of the rooms; we were given a 15% discount on the room rates because of that. The ugly: Since we had already paid the money in advance (booked rooms through yatra.com), we had problems getting the refund. The hotel staff had absolutely no idea how to give a refund, and I ultimately had to talk to their senior manager over the phone to get the issue resolved. She clarified that the refund would follow government channels and should come to me in 2-3 weeks. We also had problems explaining to the hotel staff that we had already made the payment through yatra. I had to connect them to a yatra representative; even after that, they called up their office before confirming payment. This whole incident of payment, redunds, etc took us more than 1 hour :(, and that too when we were in a hurry to leave. If you ever book this hotel through yatra, I would actively recommend you to get the cheque numbers from Yatra, and get the payment clarifications sorted out as soon as you reach (in stead of doing this while checking-out when you will probably be in a hurry)"

A summer escape
"It was our Marriage anniversary and we decided to head towards the ocean to celebrate one year of marital bliss....!! All we wanted was a retreat near the serene goa beaches and Calangute residency seemed the perfect choice. It came highly recommended thru my friend who had stayed there in January this year...although Calangute being a Govt resort i did have my reservations but nevertheless I decided to experience it first hand...and boy !I There were many surprises indeed...and some of them pleasant First and foremost the USP of the resort is its enviable location, Bang!! on the beach, yes bang on the famous Calangute beach in North Goa..the nearest decent hotel from the beach was atleast 5 min walking distance but the Calangute Residency was just a 1 min walk ....In fact the resort restaurant had a beach entry and few premium rooms were beach facing.... Being near to the beach means you can stroll on the beach pretty late in the night and still reach the hotel by a 1 min walk, It also meant you needn't carry any extra clothes Or towel when u do sea bathing...just enjoy the ocean bath and head back to the hotel room for a shower in 1 min, believe me this matters else u worry about extra pair of clothes and if you are a lady then where to change etc etc.....We used to head to sea three to four times a day and bathe whenever we wished like. And also by virtue of being so near to the beach where all the action is, It was bang in the middle of the bustling market place...you would find anything and everything, chemist ,bike rentals, restaurant, travel agency, taxi stand, souvenir shops, all at walking/shouting distance....!! Second plus point was the space, Being a govt property there was no dearth of space...ample passage ways, big garden, big rooms, huge wash rooms, I must admit i have never seen such a huge bathroom :) although true to govt tradition the upkeep of the resort was minimal and room decor frugal or should i say absent. We opted for a Garden facing room and it came quite cheap @ 1800/- INR + tax Cheap compared to other comparable private hotels. Room was huge with a huge balcony and some basic furniture. My lovely wife had planned a brief surprise requesting the hotel staff to specially decorate the room before we arrive, Now this took the resort's management staff by quite a surprise as being a govt resort they were not used to such requests, But nevertheless they indeed ceded to her request and did a decent job in the end, this gesture by itself was a commendable feat for me as i never expected a govt employee to help you going out of the way and that too without any direct benefit accruing to them:) anyhow the rest of the service was O.K or average should i say...although we didn't employed them much. Food and beverages deptt was outsourced, thankfully !! so quality was good, although it did seem odd to pay in cash every time you ordered something, outsourced!! Anyhow fooding was never an issue since the resort is so near to the beach and the market that there were many choices, the beach shacks and Suaza Lobo's being the famous haunts. So overall it was a nice hotel with an exceptional location. Go there if you want to stay near the beach and do not want to spend time commuting, carrying spare clothes to the beach, stay here if you wanna stay away from the City hustle bustle as it is quite far from City and the airport.Go there is you want to enjoy the beach and Goa more than the resort or hotel. My final advice : just think of the hotel room as a nice place to retire after you've spent the day absorbing Goa's natural beauty and splendor; you would love it. Have a nice trip."

"This is quitessentially Goa - and you get the best of both worlds at this hotel run by the Goa Tourism Department. Definitely the best located hotel at Calangute - there is no hotel located closer to the beach here. You can actually step out of the hotel into the sand. Decent sized rooms - we were in a deluxe room in the main wing - the annexe is away from the beach. All we needed to experience typical Goa was to step into the private verandah and in case privacy was required, we had to close the doors and get into the AC rooms. Only one major drawback, back in 2005 they did not have a genset and when there was a powercut it was really hot without the AC. All said and done if you need to stay in standard rooms try out the Calangute Rasidency"

Beautifully located resort. Probably one of the best places to stay in Goa.
"I stayed at Calangute Residency during 24 - 28 Nov. 2008. It is a wonderfully located resort. Probably one of the best locations in Goa. The overall ambience of a AC Deluxe room was excellent. Simple but very comfortable. The sea view was fascinating. One of the best places to have your evening drinks or morning cuppa. Watch the beautiful sunset from the extended balcony and N'joy the surroundings. Just 100 m. stroll and you land up on one of the most happening beaches of Goa with loads of exciting Water sports and Beach Shacks. Probably they could have better room service and more lively reception ( but being a Govt. run hotel, one cannot ask for better)."
