Karawan Beach & Resort
14 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"This hotel needs to be shut down for a while and refurbished. The bedside lamp was hanging off the wall, there was an obvious leak form the bathroom to the adjoining wall of the room, making this a real hazard: wet wall and lamp not properly wired in?
The whole decor of the rooms is shocking. The door handle on the bathroom door was just about falling off. Although the rooms were cleaned daily, it was never swept...just mopped so a thin film of sand was ever so present.
The all inclusive is a joke! Breakfast: shocking! we found hair in our Pain au chocolate. It was hit and miss if you got a white coffee or some sort of dirty water. Lunch and dinner were the same. Very very disappointed. "

Karawan ok for a cheap holiday but expect basic, the worst part the animation
"Room nice, sea view, food basic and not lots of choice, all inclusive to basic, but at least it is near the beach. Worst part of the holiday was the hassle from all the male staff, especially the animation team, they are lazy, and are constantly trying to get off with all the young girls, even though most are in relationships, they see western woman as easy targets for money, visa and presents and the hassle spoils the holiday. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
"Arrived early hours in the morning and we were allocated a room at the front overlooking the main road. Wouldnt recommend these rooms as ours was noisy. We were given a new room the next morning at the back overlooking the upper pool with a seaview. Brilliant! Had a fantastic two weeks at the hotel. Would like to thank all the staff for being very helpful. Some of us know how very hard you all work. The food at the hotel was fantastic! Very nutritious and mediteranean style. Those of you who dont eat PROPER food go self-catering! There is enough choice for anybody who eats properly! Dont listen to the moaners who run the food down I have know idea what they must normally eat. Burgers and chips no doubt. Would recommend this hotel to anybody for a happy family holiday."

Waste of hard earned money
"to the sales team of direct line and their hotel assessors , you should hang yourhead in shame for sending hard working families out to this cess pit.
On arrival at the hotel we were offered a drink from the all inclusive bar , they only had rose wine and beer left, great start. They offered us two choices of rooms and my partner picked what she said was the better one , which the decor was dated and the bathroom had seen better days. Breakfast was an utter disgrace the only thing resembling british cusine , was scrambled eggs , and a few old frankfurter sausages , no fruit and the fruit juice on offer was warmer than the coffee they served. The presentation is none exsistant and it looked shocking. this was the same for the whole time we where there. The evening meal was a disgrace not a sign of a dessert for the whole time we were there , the meals are recycled a lot and in the heat of the dining hall you can sometimes smell rotton food . the chef needs to turn to page two in his recipe book as it was the same dishes all the time , after three days of disappointment we just decided to use the restaurant next door , for the rest of the holidays . Went to complain to Mr Mohammad and he was a waste of space , a lot of the reviews i read said he always sorts out every problem , but i think he is he problem as his staff are lazy and untrained in their duties , and the bar staff have an IQ level of about 2 thats between about twelve of them , as they never get the order right even on two drinks , its a joke .
The beach is lovely nice sunbeds and parasol but you have to pay around 3.5 aday , the water and sand are great its used a lot by the locals and the stand in about four foot of water in a chain just staring at the womans breasts , no need for a shark net with these guys around , also the locals let their kids run around in the water and they **** and the parents dont even bother to try and clean it up (classy lot these tunisians) and its left to float in the sea . The surrounding area it like Beriut in the 80s , the locals never use bins everything is dropped on the floor and left , very dirty with loads of skanky cats running around ripping open left rubbish bags open , **** hole .
All inclusive bars were constantly running out of drinks , one day no sprite then beer then coke and vodka ,its best to ask what they have to avoid dissappointment. The local tunisian community use the same bar as the all inclusive bar and about 10 locals have 3 bar staff looking after them and one bar staff for the 60 or so holday makers , constant queing , the glasses are all chipped and cracked , not a very nice palce to be.
In all after spending a lot of money to come all inclusive to this hotel and another 400 pounds on buying meals outside the hotel , this has been a major dissappointment , i wouldnt come back for free , the manager needs to sort out this cess pit and employ someone with half a brain , and a chef who knows more than the five dishes we saw on offer.
Do Not Book This Hotel

"I was in Prima Life Safa in summer 2007 so I thought tht Prima Life Karawan will be best choice on week from 28. th Dec till 4. th Jan,but it wasnt truth....
And thx god tht I wasnt there in summer, this hotel has two swimingpools but its too small....and yes its near the beach but if you dont know how to cross the street you will be in trap....coz there is no way to cross it.....just only your brave....jump to street and maybe the car will stop....
And rooms are smaller than in Safa and it more loud, coz half rooms are to street....its good hotel for night life but not for relax...
And other thing is,that we had all inclusive program,it was just only for drinks, but we ate outside of the hotel....coz its not dangerous and its not expensive....I think tht one hamburger is something around 2 - 4 USD.
And animators was too lazy.....they wasnt friendly and there wasnt any fun during the day or in the evening....and btw they doesnt know anything, just only copying michael jackson....and it was show on New Year....I think tht better show was when some their singer did disco for guests....
And next think is tht we must let kicked off one waiter from all inclusive bar....coz my friend doesnt want to have sex with him so he pissed to her glass....so I think tht its not normal....and we talked abt it with general manager of this hotel....and he kicked him off....
So I think tht I will never go back to Karawan but to Safa for sure...."

If you stay here skip the "all inclusive" part
"The location was ok, and so was the interior of the hotel. The rooms were basic, but ok for the price. We had all inclusive, but we got sooo sick from the food that we could hardly eat it at all. Another thing was that they had the same food for both lunch and dinner the hole week... And don´t even bother trying to get a pancake in the afternoon and the ice-cream cups is soo small, it´s ridiculous. There was a ice-cream shop about 10 meters away as well as a shop, so we went there instead.
Most of the staff is nice and helpful and sun-beds and parasols are free both at the pool and on the beach, 10 meters away, across a road. There are a lot of people from eastern europe, and not much english is spoken.
Also, don´t think you can get a decent drink, they do have alcohol (not vodka), but nothing to mix it with. My boyfriend received a drink with goatmilk, coca cola, wiskey and something green that tasted like crap =(
All and all it was a good hotel, but exclude the food..."

Simply but good hotelj
"Nice simple hotel placed very close to the medina , beach, shops. Our room was very clean just above the animation place but it was OK because the animations finished at 11.p.m. and then it wasnt any noise there. A good choice of eating out places - very cheap."

great place for young people!!
"We arrived at the hotel a bit dissapointed because from the street it just lookeed not as good as we've seen in the catalogue :)
but the first impression dissaperad the very next day.
The hotel is very nice for its 3*
The rooms are just cute, our bathroom thou wasn't what we've expected, the sink was clogged up but our next door friend's bathroom was just fine.
We just really regret not having the room with a sea view because
the street view wasn't breathtaking at all.. and we've also seen some strange behaviours from the opposite building.
So if you are peep, nosy type of person ..street view is something for you ;)
It seemed that the hotel was actually starting to preparing for the very very busy season, it wasn't full during our staying.
The beach is lovely, just across the street,
for AI guests there are 2 bars ; one next to the swimming pool
the other in the hotel near reception..
The Food we found very good.
Tunisians love to be tipped, which is understandable because they don't earn a lot of money.
The only thing which annoyed me were particular persons working in the hotel. I cannot say all the waiters were rude or bad, but there were some who obviously didn't treat their job seriously.. pouring the drink in AI was a problem for some of them and very very greedy for money.
The cleaning service was a puzzle to me, we got an impression that the only thing they made was making the beds.
But apart from that everything was just GREAT.
Of course animation team was perfect, doing everything to make guests happy, max points for them!
They make Kids Disco every night and after that something for older guests ;) it's worth seeing for sure."

hotel poor - animation team great!
"(Hotel Karawan, Tunisia. 6th-14th May 2007)
The price was very cheap so we didnt expect much from the hotel. Out of 4 times we have visited Tunisia this was the worst. The hotel grounds were dated and the tiles round the pool unsafe, I slipped and badly hurt myself and saw at least 20 other people during the week, especially children falling and bumping their heads. The staff were unconcerned. I have never complained about a hotel in my life but I would not recommend this to anyone. The reception staff were rude and unhelpful. The food was poor, my husband thought it was ok but I couldnt eat anything but salad. The desserts were ok. For location the hotel was opposite the beach which was great but the downside was that our room was on a busy main road which was noisy all night. The worst part was that the noise from the hotel disco kept us awake til after 3 every night. The best part was the animation team, they are the glue that held the hotel together! also one of the waiters Hedi was wonderful, taking care of every diner was no problem to him. The local cafes have changed since our last visit and many tried to overcharge us. Sadly we will not be returning it was all too stressful, I was glad to get back home."

All Inclusive Is Not What It Seems
"MY husband and i walked into the hotel at 1.45pm. It was 10 past 2 when we had been shown to our room and dashed to the dining room hoping for lunch. we had been travelling since 4am. No chance, service finishes at 2pm we were told and we couldn't pick up anything from the buffet. we were directed to the paying cafe although we were all inclusive. we went to the all inclusive bar. talk about segregation. it took nearly all week to find out you can have a choice of 3 local spirits, coffee, cola. sprite , a beer , hot choc, and what they call fruit juice.. ..You get 2 inches of beer in the glass like they dont want you to have it. All inclusive customers cant get served in any other bars or cafes unless they pay so if you go to the beach or round the swimming pool , even watching the entertainment at night,it cant be more inconvenient. The dance team are excellent and are good with the kids. Food is good and the reception staff are excellent. the hotel is quite nice just not up to British standards. decide before you go whether it is worth paying that bit less. we didnt get clean towels, if you look at the mattresses they are stained,& the sheets didn't fit. The toilet lid was broken.....There is one english film channel on the tv though,..My tip, if you can pay a bit more do so"

nice friendly people dancers great !
"Really nice hotel with a lovely entertainment team! this was the highlight of my stay because the entertainment team were so nice & they perform every night at 9pm some fantastic dances Micheal Jackson etc. The rooms are nice fresh sea view recommended cause the front of the hotel is on a street which is not so nice!
The beach is only across the road so that is great. I got tired of the food in hte hotel cause it was the same thing every day so i wouldnt eat there every night.
i did enjoy my stay at this hotel"
