Beware of Scam
"A family holiday in the sun was chosen, this hotel looked to be one of the better ones, so off we go. when we got to the hotel, all was very nice, and the thought of all inclusive was a promise of good food and drink. however is was not long before i realised that the drink is very watered down, cheep beer, recycled food from previous day. within the hotel was a bar off the reception, and we were constantly hasstled by a man trying to get us to go on excursions, of course for a fee. i had to get very forceful to make him stop. on one morning my mother in law went to a shop by the hotel pool and bought some toys and a leather handbag, she had 90 dinas with her and the shop keeper sent her back to get another 60 dinas. luckily i said no way, as she had paid over the odds already, so i approached the shop keeper, to which he said she had only paid 60, and need to pay another 60 dinas, i was very angry as i know exactly how much she took as all her money was in our safe. so i told him you are having no more money, and i am happy to call the police, he declined. so beware, the food was awful, beer cheap, and watch out for being scammed."

Feeling relaxed, nice sea breeze!
"Stayed in Abou Sofiane week ending 5 Sept 2010. Had a lovely time. Rooms were clean if a little bit dated. As a party of 10, reception staff upgraded one of our rooms to a family suite at no extra charge, which was very very nice. The pool, smallish, but ample for what we needed. Sunbeds hard to come by, so use your initiative. There was a nice sea breeze that caught the pool from time to time. You can get towels here, which are great! Beach lovely and warm, just alot of seaweed, which is no-ones fault obviously. Nice BBQ snack bar on beach. Animation team seems to do very well, enjoyed many an activity of volleyball and water polo. Everyone raves about "Speedy" on here, but "Ali" by far the friendliest. Food was ok, the pancakes, ommlets, pizza, pasta man very good. The only down sides I would say is: Gift shop expensive! Go down the road For same stuff! Not that much to do in port el katoui, one irish bar, which was dead when we went to it. No other bars really, only restaurants. Marina nice to look at, but you go get a bit of hassle. Fountain beautiful if you get there for the light show around 8pm. There were prices for massages around the hotel, the signs are three years old so when you go to book it just so happens to go up in price, false advertising if you ask me, but then it is Tunisia. Key to tunisia is HAGGLE!! Taxi rides to Port el katoui should be 5Dinar, maybe 8 after 9pm. HAVE CHANGE because you wont see any in return and be prepared to walk away! Final point: The airport is chaos! When you arrive straight of the plane you will need to fill in a visa form, which you may have to search for. NO ONE WILL TELL YOU THIS! If you find the man with them, join the queue! you must keep this visa for your return journey, as will be stamped on way out! Dont loose it!! Also, Tunisian money (Dinars) are not allowed out of the country, they are not even spenable in the airport on way out on duty free and odd bits of food. SO SPEND IT, before you realise its too late! (They do take sterling in the airport I believe) "

"We have been to the Abou Sofianne 6 times now and each time been amazing. We have always had a great time and it is a great place to unwind or join in everything if that is what you want from a holiday. The staff and animation team are brilliant - really friendly and will do everything they can to make your holiday special. Shaggy is brilliant! His dancing and shows are really good and all the guys work so hard. They are on duty all day but smile until the early hours of the morning. We have tried other places but none of them match up to this hotel and we cannot recommend it enough. Keep up the good work - we will be back soon for our 7th time! "

Best holiday ever!!!
"We have just come back from the best holiday we have ever had! There were 13 of us ages between 3 and 68 including 4 teenagers. The hotel was stunning, the food was freshly made and could NOT be faulted!!!! Lots of choice even for fussy children. The beach is beautiful, clean and well looked after, the pool areas were lovely set with gardens arount them. There was a choice of beach bar, pool bar or main restaraunt all of which were of excellent standard with a good choice of food. The staff were all very friendly and helpfull, couldn't do enough for you. The rooms were basic but cleaned every day. The daily entertainment programme was good with lots to do. The kids club is FANTASTIC with the best staff in the world!!!!!!!!!! Especially Hammy Hamster and Radia they care so much for the children. We will definatly be going back next year. "

fantastic weeks holiday
"the hotel was very clean and had regular maid service. They provided towels not only for the rooms but also for the beach- every day. the staff were all so polite and friendly they made the holiday special. The entertainment was very good. The food was freshly prepared every day and catered for a variety of cultures and nationalities. It was perhaps slightly unadventurous and repetative, but certainly well presented and beautifully cooked. I realy coudnt fault this holiday at all and i would definately go back to the Abou Sofaine."

"This hotel advertises itself as four star or 3+ by the tour operator. Neither rating is accurate. The rooms are basic, run down and outdated the cleanliness leaves alot to be desired. The communal areas are scuffy, the indoor pool is very shabby. There is an unlpleasant aroma of stale water. The sun loungers are grubby to say the least. The food is basic and bland if at all you can get to it as the queues are unbelievable, should you be lucky enough to find a table you are asking a miricle for cuttlery. Should you do it is well worth closer inspection !!!! The only way to gain any satisfactory service is to gain the favour of one of the few members of staff by frequent tipping failure to do so leaves you well on your own to survive the struggle to actually get food. An all inclusive holiday involved several meals out at local restaurants which served food with taste and flavour. At the time of writing this I am sat in the overcrowded and noisy reception watching a very loud and irrate Arab male argue with the receptionist. Entertainment in the evening has included a family fight and glass throwing!!!! To say the least the place is a disgrace, I would of course complain to the holiday rep (who has two uniforms and which she swaps between hotels as she works for two different tour operators) however she has made herself scarce and fails to appear at the allotted times unless of course it is the welcome meeting to sell over priced excusions. I have left her name off to avoid her embarrassment. I not the comment from an earlier post saying this is the best holiday / hotel, my answer to this is they may not have anyhing else to judge it by! Do you want to come to a place that you need to pay a deposit for a tv remote control ? Or for thar matter be treated like children and rationed to one bottle of water each evening per room. The pathetic process involves obtaining yourvration card from reception and walking 15 yards across the room to be issued with your water upon production of said ration card! Do not waste your time and money give this place a miss. I will certainly not be returung to Tunisia. "

"Hotel normally hosts 1000 guests, no more than 100 when we stayed in the first 2 weeks in January. Most described hotel facilities had closed down by the first week. The children support was nil. The hotel except for rooms and restaurant cold. A nice hotel with exceptionally good and helpful staff. Everywhere very clean but starting to show its age. Food average too excellent but deteriorating second week. The Theatre and Disco rooms separate from the Hotel and spacious but cold. I would say in the middle of the season very crowded. Lounge,Reception and main bar area though suppoosed to be restricted smoking, not followed thru and very difficult to manage. A very good indoor pool area, though gym, equipment needed attention. Outdoor pool area OK but open to the wind from most directions. Nice beach area but not very clean and sewage open on the end of their land. A nice walk into El Kantaoui Port along beach or road.El Kantaoui very nice with good bars and restaurants. Easy ride by taxi, road train or tuk tuk into Sousse. Overall a very good holiday but not really to be approached at the end or the beginning of the season; unless advertised facilities in place, wind breaks installed around pool area and heating improved."

"by far the best holiday iv ever had everything about the hotel is amazing, this is a really good holiday for young couples "

"It was far the best holiday i have ever been too! The hotel was lovely and clean, the rooms were cleaned everyday by friendly staff. The food was brilliant, full of variety and everyday they put on a display of cakes and desserts which look devine! There was plenty of things for the whole family including an indoor/outdoor swimming pool with childrens pool next to it, a small play area and mainly the beach. The mediterranean sea is amazing, very clear and relaxing. The best thing about my stay at Abou Sofiane was the animation team! they were really funny and very energetic, everyday they would be doing something different and getting everybody to join them. All the staff are very welcoming and polite, they speak good english too. The only thing that bothered us was that the hotel was full of mainly French people who werent polite at all but thats obviously not the hotels fault. So overall i recommend this hotel and i will be going back there next year :)"

We've been there 4 times amazing!
"Me and My mother have been to the abou sofianne 4 times now feb 2007 may 2007 may 2008 and may 2009 It is suitable for the whole family, for children there is a small pool inside or out and kids club running all day from 9am until 6pm there is a kids disco on from 8:30 until 9:00pm before the show starts, for teenagers like myself you can also go to the kids club, or just hang by the pool or beach, also there is a games room, which includes air hockey, pool and car racing games. Most nights after dinner there will be some kind of entertainment out on the terrace which could be a quiz or music playing where the entertainment team dance with you. The shows on a night are excellent but if you have been there more than once the routines become quite familiour but still seem to improve. If you are an adult you might prefer relaxing on the beach, as most children are bye the pool, or if you don't fancy that you can sit by the pool or sun bathe on the grass. The days never become boring, as the entertainment team keep you entertained through out the day there are many activaties which include, darts, volleyball, french bowls, archery, mini golf, water polo, aqua gym, yoga, football, tennis, ping pong, and some times salsa. once a week there is a cocktail hour by the pool, that is an opertunity to meet who have been running the hotel and to try some amazing cocktails and watch the animation team show off there skills. The food at the hotel is of very high standards, and there is some thing for every one, there are chips every night, a vegartarian option, and pasta. It is in buffet style and they have different themes for example italyian food and tunisian food. The service is fast and very good once you have ordered ine drink the waiters will keep topping up your glass. There is also a snack bar open during the day for small snacks like pancakes, omlets and pizza. There is also drinks available all day and because its all inclusive you don't have to pay a thing. The staff are very friendly and if you do find any problems you can tell them and they will make sure its fixed for you. The animation team do change over the years but there are still people there from 2007 :) Every night they put on a show of different genres for example, crazy show, cabaret, funny, fakir show, mini show. The mini show is where all the kids in kids club work together to put on a show to entertain the whole hotel. There are many dances in the shows but are also some funny scenes, that CAN get a bit out of control. Also at the hotel you have the choice to buy a t-shirt with your name on it and a design of your choice, these t-shirts are of good quality, I should know, I own 3 :) you can also buy i cd which have the club dances on it which are also very good. Shops wise there are a few in the hotel itself there is a sweet shop and general things, a jewelry shop, a hair dressers and even a beauty sallon. But if none of that gets your fancy you can simply walk to the town of port el kantoui as it only takes 10 minutes or you can get a taxi for almost nothing. While you are in tunisia you can go on a number of different trips, and on arriving at the hotel you get tickets to eat at the tunisian retaurant in the hotel for free, but you must book in advance, also free to the italian restaurant in the hotel riviera next door. If you want to travel to sousse I recommend you turn your all inclusive band inside out as you can get people asking about you. You can haggle in most shops but some are a fixed price for things. If you fancy a change of scenery for a few days you can go out on a trip which lasts 2 days and stay in another hotel, you get to watch the sun rise on the salt lake, go on an hour long camal ride in tunisian clothes, visit the place where star wars was filmed, which is actually a hotel, and do many other things which all together make the trip amazing. I've never writen so much in such a short amout of time about one place it just gos to show you its an amazing place and a brilliant holiday. I could wel be a holiday rep when i'm older haha I hope you like what you've heard"
