Great stay at Red monkey lodge
"I came to Red monkey just before new years eve and my plan was to move on after a couple of nights. I ended up staying two and a half weeks. The setting is beautiful, manager Mark and his staff are very nice and serviceminded, the beds comfortable and rooms are clean and nice, right on the beach. I was really impressed with the food. The chef has very high ambitions and the food was excellent - day after day. The ambiance is nice with possibility to chill in comfortable sofas and beach beds, or sitting in the restaurant with a perfect wiew. I highly recommend this place both for solo travellers and couples/groups. Thank you for a great time :-) //Ã sa"

"Me and my friend stayed at red monkey lodge end of dec beg of jan. We had a great time from beginning to the end. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. The food was the best food we had on Zanzibar. Red monkey lodge is a chilled out place, although a cpl times staff organised a night out at nearby club. There was a few minor errors, Taking into account that red monkey lodge only been reopened for a week I think that is understandable. I def recommend staying at red monkey lodge. Anna"

Red Monkey Lodge after reopening
"My partner and I have just returned from Zanzibar, having had three days in Red Monkey Lodge at the end of a couple of weeks of Selous and Dar Es Salaam. We arrived a few days after the re-opening by new management (Italian/German Mark who introduced himself as having... 'the sense of humour of the Germans and the efficiency of the Italians!'). Although Mark and the staff were clearly still settling into their routine, and there were occasional teething problems, the renovation was simple, comfortable and quite lovely, the food was terrific and the staff laid back and helpful. One of the best things about the lodge was it's proximity to the local Jabilani community, who's life seems reasonably unaffected by the first world tourism that surrounds them. I don't recognise the earlier reviews and would recommend the lodge very highly if you're looking for local colour, a genuine glimpse of living conditions in a coastal community and a calm and laid back holiday with a few books, a lovely white sand beach and lazy days ... but perhaps not if you're looking for a business centre, a gym and/or a wild night life. I'd highly recommend the village tour, run by a local NGO. And I'd highly recommend a stay at Red Monkey Lodge if you want a restful break with local colour."
