10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
Not to be missed !
"Along with all the other reviewers here, we loved the Farnatchi, and the great team who run it, led by the incomparable Lynne.
It is a tranquil, calm place with every thought given to make your stay comfortable and happy - such a contrast with the `real` Marrakesh outside, but then you almost need the one to make you truly appreciate the other !
The suites are as good as other travellers report, and my tall husband was able to lie full length in the marble bath. The `icing on the cake` is the recent addition of a Bose SoundDock in each suite for your ipod, so on a cool evening you can enjoy your own music by the log fire in your room.
It's clear that for a special occasion Lynne can organise a magical occasion, so it's definitely worth talking to her.
Talking to other guests, it was amazing how many were using tripadvisor to check out accommodation before travelling."

A refuge! - great place shame about the city......
"My wife and I stayed at Riad Farnatchi for a week in November - we couldn't fault the Riad. The staff were excellent and everything you have read in these reviews about the quality of the place is true (as you would expect for the price). Accordingly, our rating of the hotel is excellent.
However, Marrakech was a real let down for us - we expected so much and will not return. I would not recommend the city for anybody who wants to have a relaxing "break". There are few true sights in Marrakech (you could see everything worth seeing in a day) and to be honest the hassle of going outside the Riad eventually ground us down. We have both travelled to some challenging cities in Asia/South America but nothing prepared us for Marrakech. Riad Farnatchi is located well within the medina (shorthand for dirty narrow streets with mopeds driving along them at 40mph with no thought for pedestrians) so you have to walk through the medina to go anywhere. This in itself is a challenge and does not deserve its reputation - go to the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul if you want to see a decent market. The central square is a tourist trap with snake charmers, poor monkeys and even poorer tourists being hassled constantly. It could do with a good jet wash.
The restaurants in Marrakech were very expensive (approx £40 per head with wine for anything decent). Alcohol is pricey and not available outside the tourist bars/restaurants.
I hear nothing but fantastic reports about Marrakech and it seems nobody is prepared to break the illusion. If you want a weekend away in a totally different environment and culture then give Marrakech a try - just don't expect too much."

We say, 'yes' to Farnatchi
"Itâs hard to decide whatâs most impressive about Farnatchi. The feeling that youâre in on a fantastic secret repeats hits you every few moments. The fireplace in the Green Room, its private balcony overlooking the tiled pool in the cool courtyard, the steamy hammam, gazillion point cotton sheets, and the Jedi-like intuition of the staff end up delivering more romantic inspiration than an icy bar of freshly shucked oysters. Coated in Italian style it feels like an extracted sanctuary from the chaotic bustle of the worldâs most legendary public market. Its pretty much a boutique memory factory. We had a great time. Be sure to speak with Lynn and see how casual conversation taps you into a well of insider info. Enthusiasm like hers is contagious."

A magical and luxurious riad in Marrakech
"We had an amazing week's stay at this exceptional hotel. The wonderful common rooms and suites, staff, food, hammam, spa treatments, location, and ambience are accurately described in previous reviews. I would stress that we felt completely at home, so much so that we ate dinner "home" half of the nights of our stay. A new touch was the arrival of Bose iPod SoundDocks for each suite. I think it will only be a matter of time before iPods stocked with songs will be loaned to those traveling without. Modern comforts mixed with traditional style seems to be the forte of this Riad. The manager Lynn Perez is skillful at providing personal touches that made our stay so memorable. We can't wait to return."

"We have just returned from a week at the Riad Farnatchi in Marrakesh. This riad provides a true haven from the bustle that is Marrakesh and is ideally situated in the Medina (old city). You just need to step outside the front door and you enter the labyrinthine cobbled streets. We were lucky as the weather was glorious and the sky an azure blue every day. It seems that at Riad Farnatchi, nothing is too much and they will get you whatever you desire (within reason!). The food is also absolutely delicious too and there is an on site Berber chef. They will even rustle up a sandwich at a late hour. I particularly appreciated the Pastilla, a morroccan filo pastry filled either with sweet or savoury. Riad Farnatchi also has lots of little extras thrown in, free on site hammam, Morroccan slippers and robe, transfers to and from the airport, to name but a few. They will also organise tours and day trips for you. We went on a great day trip to the Atlas mountains which I thoroughly recommend and if you like trekking, spend a couple of days there and climb to the top of the highest peak. What more can I say? other than that Marrakesh is a great place to go for a long weekend to chill out in some great accommodation, Riad Farnatchi being amoung the best of them."

Stunning- don't miss this!
"This is a genuine Moroccan gem- fantastic location, very close to the Musee and right on the doorstep of the Souks. The hotel, decor, service and setting are truly incredible. The service is so efficient and friendly yet never intrusive. Lynn in particular was amazing- before our trip she recommended an intinery for us which really made this a holiday of a lifetime. Our suite (number 4) was incredibly luxurious, a fusion of traditional and modern style with some wonderful touches from a beautiful balcony to the full sized Molton Brown toiletries in the marble bathroom. The food is fantastic- a romantic meal beside the bewitching pool was superior to that of Dar Moha. I could not recommend this Riad highly enough- it is well worth the price."

A wonderful experience
"I was charmed by the Riad Farnatchi and found it inviting on multiple dimensions - the beauty and intimacy (it has only five rooms) of the property; the attentiveness and care of the staff; and its location (within the Medina and steps away from the souk). The property is set in a narrow alley within the winding roads surrounding the souk, marked only by a large, dark, wooden door. The Riad is private, yet spacious, and I enjoyed having breakfast by the pool and dinner on the rooftop. The chaise lounge chairs on the rooftop also provided a relaxing sanctuary from the sometimes frenzied pace of the souk in the late afternoon and a wonderful spot to hear the late day call to prayer. The staff was truly unbelievable in its attention to and care of guests. It was a welcome change from the usual impersonal feel of larger hotels to develop a repoire with the staffâreturning to the Riad at the end of each day felt like coming home. The trip to Marrakech was highly impacted in a wonderful way by an unforgettable stay at the Riad Farnatchi."

a wonderful experience from start to finish
"From the moment we arrived at the Riad Farnatchi I felt as if our comfort and enjoyment were the number one priority of the staff. The service was excellent and unobtrusive; I felt as if I were truly a welcome guest rather than a paying customer.
Our room was luxurious and all the unique little touches were very much appreciated. My partner loved the onsite hamman; my favorite was the wonderful breakfast served on the rooftop terrace, which included the most delicious homemade cherry jam and always seemed to make an auspicious start to the day, a period of calm relaxation before heading out to explore the souks.
Lynn, the manager, was wonderful when it came to suggestions and arrangements for restaurants, activities and day trips outside the hotel. It was our first trip to Marrakech, but if (when!) we go back, I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else."

Do not want to forget this wonderful place
"Stayed here for 7 nights in April 2005. This will always be one of our favourite places to stay. From the moment that you are picked up in the white 4*4 and driven through the intoxicating streets of Marrakech you know that you are going somewhere special and once to enter through the door and see the beautiful lit pool (we arrived at night) and had sip of the mint tea brought to your room you just want the experience to go on.
The location is great and once you have got your bearings (doesn't take long) you feel very comfortable and happy to explore the souks. But even if you do get lost it is never long before you stumble on right track and it is all part of the fun just wandering around looking and smelling as you go!
We stayed in the green room and enjoyed having breakfast on our balcony each morning whilst overlooking the pool and sneaking a look at the comings and goings through the Riad.
Every member of staff was lovely, very helpful and informative and it seems a shame to mention any one in particular but Lynn really does steel the show as she tries to ensures that during your stay every wish and dream that you have is met.
Do try the hamman and have it done for you , it was a very luxuriating experience to be scrubbed and washed clean something I would love to have done every week !
We had dinner in the Riad on our first night and the food was wonderful and the whole evening was one of the most memorable meals that we have eaten.
We would return in a heartbeat."

Couldn't be better
"Arrived here after three wonderful nights at Kasbah Tamadot which we didn't think could be beaten in terms of style or service - how wrong could we be!
This Riad is truly heaven on earth, from the stylish and luxurious suites to the unsurpassable service. Every whim was catered for, and we felt truly relaxed and at home.
The location is excellent in the heart of the Medina, ideal for sight seeing and the obligitory haggling in the souk.
A special mention must go to Amanda who couldn't have cared for us better from the moment she met us at our car.
We will deffinately be returning to this place sooner rather than later."
