finally a very good place!
"Perfect location! Clean room! Good service! Hakim & Medi are very gently at the bar! A great place to stay in Essaouira."

"Has good location near Bab Sba, with views of the bay from its rather nice roof terrace. However, it is well overpriced (1400 DH, nearly £90 for a so-called luxury - see below) double. Booking by phone, I was told that only luxury rooms were available, but as I later discovered, this was clearly not true. A more realistic price would have been about half what we paid. When we arrived (around 2.30pm), our room was still being cleaned, so we ordered lunch in the patio area. The food was okay (nothing special) but I was rather put off by the bamboo place mats that were put before us: they were encrusted with old food. The room certainly could not be described as luxurious. It had one or two attractive bits (cushions, candles) and was of a good size, but had none of the mod-cons usual for the price (such as air-conditioning, TV, room safe) and had only one small window overlooking the interior courtyard. |After a hot and fairly noisy night, I queried whether the room was âluxeâ. It eventually turned out that it wasnât, and they offered to move a TV into the room to compensate. When I declined this offer they eventually moved us. The genuine luxe room was nicer, but still didnât have air-con or, more importantly, a room safe - the one thing you really need in Essaouira, as you donât want to go off to the beach with passport, credit cards etc about your person. To add insult to injury, we were finally billed for two nights in a luxe room, leading to another wrangle. There were other signs of lack of maintenance - rusty balustrades, dead rose petals in the central fountain of the patio, a rather grimy carpet in the room. In short, poor maintenance and service, and inflated prices marred what could have been a nice hotel. On the plus side: good breakfasts and roof terrace."

Nice riad, awful staff.
"Nice riad - but the worst staff we came across in all the places we stayed in Morocco. Booked late so only had deluxe rooms left. They were lovely even if expensive. HOWEVER one of the rooms had a blocked shower, the first day it was used the water flooded the bedroom and ruined some of our stuff which was on the floor. We told reception but it wasn't fixed. Nor the next day despite another complaint from us. When checking out they said they could not compensate us for the inconvenience because we had booked through a travel agent. The travel agent then contacted them to try to get some money back and they said that we had not reported it and so we were not entitled to anything. I sent them an email telling them that I'd reported itthree times but they never even bothered replying. Because in so many riads the staff are so friendly and helpful I wouldn't bother staying here, they are cold at best."

"Week-end en famille à Essaouira Les chambres confirmées au téléphone et par fax n'étaient pas réservées à l'arrivée: ça commençait mal! Ensuite, propreté plutôt douteuse de la salle de bain. Après nous être plaints nous avons été changés de chambre, mais seulement au bout de plusieurs heures, et avec l'impression qu'on nous faisait une grande faveur! bref, accueil qui donne envie d'aller voir ailleurs... Et le reste du séjour était à l'avenant."

"Wow! A beautiful, stylish, contemporary Riad that offers great value for money compared to some of the others in Essouaira. We arrived in Essouaira with nowhere to stay, we visited several Riads and hotels within and just outside the city walls. The Dar L'oussia seemed the best by far and had a fab location so we booked a room. The large sunny roof terrace (with some nice shady areas) overlooking the beach was great. We had breakfast on the roof terrace everyday, and spent plenty of time up there throughout the day in the sun (much more peaceful and relaxing than the beach with no one hassling you to flog stuff or get you on a camel!!). Highly recommended - will definitely go back!!"

Good location, won't go back.
"Not very nice staff. Woe begone those who speak in English. We had a bracelet STOLEN from inside a bag. Also: appears to be good for groups b/c noisy at night. Sound carries through the center of the hotel. NOT a riad at all."

"We stayed at this elegant Riad for three nights in early April. By Riad standards it is quite large with 24 rooms. Our first night was a little noisy as our room was on the first floor next to the main staircase. I asked to change rooms and we were upgraded to a much more private and quieter room on the third floor. The staff were very professional and did not make us feel our complaint was a problem. Breakfast was OK - Orange juice, bread, butter, jam, Moroccan pastries and coffee. The location of Dar L'Oussia is excellent very close to the beach, port, main medina square and shops. It has a great roof terrace with views of the beach and port."

"we loved this riad which was light and spacious and very close to the beach and main square in essaouria. the rooms were very big and well equipped with good powerful showers but ours had no bath. they seemed to have underfloor heating (useful when we travelled) but not airconditioning. upstairs is a very large sun terrace, with some sunbeds as well as shady areas, all with beautiful views over the port and the beach. the staff were all very friendly and helpful, although some french is useful. we only had breakfasts at the riad but there was a lot of food and they would serve it either in the dining room, on the terrace, or in your bedroom."
