Coin De Mire is a good place to stay if...
"Coin De Mire is a good place to stay if you are on a bit of a budget. The complex was clean and tidy. The grounds were very well kept.
The entertainment was good, food was average. The spa they had on site was a disappointment. There is a public beach across the road which is pleasant.
The amount we paid was good for what we got. No point spending shed loads on a posher hotel in Mauritius."

"We have just returned from 2 weeks of complete relaxation in Mauritius and can't wait to go back. Although only 2 stars rating, the Coin de Mire far exceeds your expectations. Reception staff greeted us on arrival with wet towels for our hands and wonderful, flower decorated fruit cocktails. From then on, nothing was too much trouble - all the staff were friendly and took time to remember our names and our likes in both the bar and restaurant.
The food was typically Creole / French and always in good quantities but did become a little boring after two weeks, (as it would in any small to medium sized hotel with only one restaurant). So we sampled food in local cafes and bars. ( Beach front cafe in Pereybere was particularly good for a quick lunch and restaurant La Maison Du Pecheur had fantastic freshly caught fish dishes). It is not uncommon for a local resturant owner to collect and return you to your hotel as part of the service for no extra cost. We found the Mauritian people to be courteous and very friendly but not overly pushy in trying to sell you things. Most speak English and are genuinely interested in chatting and passing the time of day with you.
Breakfast can be a liitle difficult as local birds flutter around your table snatching crumbs, probably encouraged by people feeding them at the table.
The hotel is set in beautifully maintained flower filled gardens with rooms in two storey buildings. Our room was kept spotlessly clean with fresh sheet and towels daily - and flowers on the bed too. We were glad we upgraded to have air conditioning.
Overall our opiinion of this hotel was that it was small and excellent value for money with charming and attentive staff."

Would never go back
"My husband and I stayed for three weeks in this hotel, the reason was for my birthday. Never having stayed in a two star hotel before I now know what the saying 'you get what you pay for' means.
The main complain was the restaurant, what they did to the food I can't imagine, after four days we could'nt eat there any longer and travelled into Grand Baie every night. Most of the staff were really miserable, everything was too much trouble. Food was served from 19.00 to 21.30 but if you were not at a table for the first sitting it was very difficult to get staff to re-set the table.
The sheets and towels which had originally been white were a shade of grey with various stains on them. When the room was cleaned each morning the maid left so much water on the floor it was a death trap for almost an hour while it dried out.
One plus side was our room which was very nice, on the first floor set right up in the trees which gave us very close contact with the bird life, infact at the end of the holiday they were eating out of ours hands.
Being there during cyclone Gamede did'nt help matters either but that was ofcourse no fault of the hotel."

Paradise On Earth
"We, being myself, Mike and Lorraine spent three beautiful weeks at The Coin de Mire Hotel over Christmas and New Year, in the absolutely romantic setting of Grand Baie.
The hotel is small in comparison with others around the island but you certainly receive the personal, individual and outstanding hospitality all round. Rooms are of high quality and always serviced and comfortable.
Entertainment is provided for you every night and all meals served are of absolute quality and high standard, giving a wide variety at every sitting.
This hotel is surprisingly a two star hotel, as it offers exceptional, excessive value for money in conjunction with highly professional management and staff who are always at your service to please and serve you with their greatest of pleasure and smiles.
Variety of cocktails and especially 'our' favourite, 'Pina Colardo' are always on tap and presented with pride by bar staff in the most amazing and decorative style all whilst lazing and sunning yourself in the lovely hotel surrounds by the pool on your Chase Longue (by the way thats 'french' for long chair)
The most outstanding and most memorable time of our stay at Coin De Mire was our engagement on 5th January 2007 which was made to be the highlight of our holiday with the dedication and joyful spirit of the Manager, Stephan Lagesse. We were presented with a three course dinner in the middle of the swimming pool with our personal waiter, music, champagne and all the personal attention one can ask for. The beauty and splendour of this evening just added to the romantic time we experienced on this celebration. A time to always remember! A place to visit again! Possibly for the honeymoon this time......."

Loved the place
"We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Coin De Mire.
Considering the hotel is graded as 2 star this really doesn't do it justice.
The hotel is magnificent and the service and staff were very good.
It was so lovely that it was hard to drag ourselves away from the hotel but we did for a couple of trips.
The trip to the botanical gardens is well worth a vist and the trip to Curepipe is worth going to as well!
Gran Baie is only a 10 minute taxi ride away and there is plenty to see and do there as well.
My wife and I had read the reviews and to be frank were going with an open mind, however ALL the positive reviews are justified."

"Coin de Mire Hotel was small enough to be very personal and the staff, including the Manager, soon got to know us by name. The two storey acocmmodation was wonderfully set-off by the superb gardens, which were raked and well tended every day, as was the beach front opposite the Hotel. The pools were ideal for sun-bathing (no competition for the beds!) and cooling off when guilt took over as a result of lack of physical activity. Drinks at the bar were superb and we enjoyed the food, particularly breakfast and lunch. The rooms were very adequate, clean and well looked after by the Hotel staff - often flowers were left on our bed after they had been made. All in all we believe that the Hotel is understated with 2 stars and represents very good value for money.

"We went to the Coin De Mire Hotel for 3 weeks on our honeymoon and were a little worried about the kind of holiday we would have as it was the cheapest in the holiday mag!?
We can honestly say that we had the most amazging time!!!
The staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was great (we only ate out once in the 3 weeks that we were there) and the beach was heavenly!!! The room was also clean and comfortable with the biggest bed that we had ever seen! and the weather was great too, which was a bit of a bouns as it decided to rain on our wedding day!!!
We hired a little jeep from Grand Baie (next to the main bank) which only cost £10 per day and explored around the island, we also stopped of and used some of the other hotels in the Coin De Mire chain for the day.
We have to admit that although these hotels were beautiful we both prefered the Coin De Mire's bay beach. On the weekends and after 4pm the locals would use part of the public beach next to the beach owed by the Coin De Mire.
We found this charming as we could watch people go about their everyday lives (this was much better than sitting on a beach surrounded by people reading papers from back home, no offence!!!)
It helped us to understand how the true Maurituis people lived! We also really enjoyed watching the fisherman catch their fish and work on their boats.
We have to say that if you are at all worried about booking a trip to this hotel please...don't as it was amazing!!!
We had honeymoon that we will never forget all thanks to The Coin De Mire Hotel and it's staff.

Much better than one would expect of a two star hotel
"The entrance to the hotel does not at first sight inspire confidence, however once beyond the immediate entrance the hotel is, without doubt, impressive for a two star property. The gardens are lovely and kept immaculate by a team of gardeners. The rooms overlook the gardens with the sea beyond. There is a road between the hotel and the beach but it is not difficult to cross onto the beach where there are sun loungers, umbrellas and pedalloes, kayaks (single and double) and a glass bottom boat which goes out twice a day, all free to hotel guests.
Balconies are a good size but not private, having shared steps to two rooms.
Rooms are very clean, spacious, air conditioned and with fans. The downside is the non provision of amenities in the bathroom, so take your own shampoo, conditioner, shower cap and hair dryer (the hotel only has three hair dryers!). Towels and sheets are changed on a daily basis. Don't worry about the odd Gecko in your room, they only eat bugs!
The hotel is 'fogged' every Monday afternoon, so there is an almost complete lack of bugs, but we asked for, and got, a daily mosquito repellent to plug in every evening.
There are two pools but not enough sun loungers (possibly because there are more towels than bodies on the sun loungers, but hey, what is new. There are also sun loungers in the gardens under the trees. Word of warning, the hotel does not provide pool towels so take your own or buy them locally for about £7 for a good quality stylish towel.
The food is acceptable. There is always a choice, usually of fish and meat. The desserts however are the Achilles Heel of the cuisine - they tended to be rather bland (blancmange, meringue or sponge in various guises.) I asked if they could serve custard with the desserts and after a few false starts regarding quantities and consistency - it was excellent.
The birds are lovely, but they like to eat breakfast just as much as you do, so if you leave your table at breakfast time, cover up everything or leave someone at the table to keep the birds off, they dip their beaks into your fruit juice and into the butter - neither activity is evident to you when you return to the table.
Stefan, the manager, and Christian both make themselves known to guests and are happy to receive comments in order to improve the hotel. There are plenty of staff and all anxious to please.
All in all, we could not fault the hotel, considering its two star status."

Thanks for responding
"I wish to state that I did a review on your website regarding this hotel,(see not a good experience)
Since listing this review the manager of this establishment has corresponded with me to aplogise about our bad experience. Even though he did not agree with all of the points that I raised he was willing to accept that perhaps a few of my points were relevant.
I think that the mere fact that he did respond must be congratulated and the outcome of this appears that we were sold a deal by our travel agent which did not suit our requirements.
Well done Stephan!"

"Very impressed. The staff were all excellent and gave excellent service. Veggie options at evening meal good (plus on the one day it wasn't, they did something for me extra)
Rooms were very good - my "basic" room still had aircon (different sites state different things about no aircon, but mine did)
Grounds were beautiful, beach is much closer than you'd think (nearer to my room than most "beachfront" hotels i have been in)
Beach isn't the best for basic swimmers as the first bit of seafloor is a bit muddy due to the boats, but great for sunbathing and snorkelling.
The nearest public beach is perfect for "normal" swimming, £1.50 in a taxi.
Watch out for the birds at breakfast, they'll drink your orange juice and take your toast!! ;o)"

"We stayed at the Coin de Mire in the first two weeks of September. Its a perfect time to go, not too busy and only one rainy day in two weeks with 25c+ temps. It is a superb little hotel, with very friendly and attentive staff especially in the bar and restaurant areas. Take the all inclusive package as it is excellent value for money with a wide choice of buffet fare and drinks. The rooms wouldn't be the best you have stayed in but considering it is only a 2/3 star, it has everything you would expect and is very clean, tidy and quiet. Take the superior upgrade for air con though. The location is what made it for us. It is away from the bustle of Grand Baie but is only a ten minute ride away and the hotel stands alone with its own private beach area, that is quiet and underused, with all the usual free watersports. Its not white sand but again you get what you pay for and it more than meets the needs. Overall, you would be hard pushed to get better value for money in Mauritius, in terms of service, food, room and location. Would recommend it and would definitely go back again."
