why can't there be more like this?
"If every hotel/inn/B&B on the planet was like La Maison d' Ete there would be no need for sites like Tripadvisor. Jean Claude, the owner, and all his staff couldn't be more pleasant, more attentive and more helpful. Our room(s), we stayed in 2 , were absolutely spotless. In No.8 the bed faced the doors to the terrace, so when you woke up and pulled back the curtains you could lie back looking over the terrace to the sea. Fabulous. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon. Restauarant is closed on A Sunday, the staff day off. Jean Claude was there to welcome us and help with the luggage. Then he told us if we needed bottled water, beer, wine, coffee, just to help ourselves from the bar in the restaurant and leave a note to let him know what we had taken. I can't imagine many places making that offer to guests as soon as they arrive. We stayed 10 nights in total, and ate at the restaurant 6 times. Every night the food and the service was faultless. Great choice, fresh ingredients cooked to order. Delicious. And a special mention to Patrick, who did the breakfast service. Chatty, cheerful, and considerate, he helped to get every day off to a good start. If I return to Mauritius I can't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else. Oh, and with the high standards they set the prices are remarkably good value!"

jumping on the bandwagon
"As my title says - I have to jump on the bandwagon and praise this hotel. The setting and the extras are amazing; the service and friendliness are over the top...and the recommendations from the staff are excellent."

"This small family run guest house is simply superb from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave. We stayed in one of the 6 guest rooms which is beautifully decorated with spacious bathroom, private sea view balconies and small kitchen area for those who would like to self cater. We never used this however as the food in the restaurant is so good! The attention to detail throughout the resort shows how much care and attention the owners put in to their place and everything is thought of. This is a great place for couples seeking to get away from the more touristy sports and looking for a bit of pampering and romance at a far more personal and affordable places than many of the other big resorts that are located on the East Coast."

"A beautiful place and a wonderful stay- my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great rooms and villas, perfect setting, excellent service. Almost like having your own beach house for a week."

Highly recommend staying here
"I agree with the other reviews that this is a truly lovely place to stay. We stayed for 3 nights in mid-May and absolutely loved it. The accommodation is lovely - nicely decorated, clean, great views. The food in the restausrant is wonderful. And the service - both accommodation and restaurant - is excellent. The beach that Maison d'Ete is situated by is not bad (though not the best Mauritius has to offer). The location is also good for exploring other parts of the east coast (e.g. Ile aux cerfs) I highly recommend staying here!"

Fabulous holiday at Maison d'Ete
"My partner and I have just returned from a two week stay at La Maison d'Ete and had a fabulous time there. We had managed to get some very cheap flights to Mauritius, and only then did we start looking at accommodation, which was very frightening in terms of price! I read some Trip Advisor reviews and decided to take a chance and book La Maison d'Ete, and we could not have been happier with our choice. We stayed in Bungalow 1, which is probably the most private of the bungalows, as it is at the end of the row, and so you don't have anyone walk past you, although having said that, there are so few bungalows and villas, that even if people were to pass yours, you would not really find yourself disturbed at all. Also every fellow guest we met was extremely pleasant and friendly, and this also added to the enjoyment of our stay and the overall ambience of the resort. The set up of the bungalow is that you have a small patio with a couple of chairs and some hanging rails on (handy for drying swimwear and towels) outside, and inside, a dining table, a large cupboard, a wardrobe, a small but very functional kitchen with a double gas burner, and a bathroom with shower. The bungalows are small, but there were just what we needed for our stay - no more and no less. Since we booked our stay, the owners of the hotel have developed what had been their home and this side of the resort is the villas. As these have been fitted out recently, the furnishings and overall look of these is more modern than the bungalows, although the owners are planning to refit the bungalows. Both sides of the resort have their own pool and small private beach, and so apart from a more modern room, there is no difference between the two. We did not book a car for our stay, and so we had a pick up from the airport arranged by the hotel. Our flight was delayed, but our driver waited for us and delivered us to the hotel in about an hour. We mostly spent our days around the resort as I had just finished year end at work and I wanted nothing more than to chill out and rest! We ate breakfast at the hotel each day, and also spent most evenings in the restaurant - Auberg'Inn - where the food, particularly the seafood - is spectacular. We had a car for one day and went to Goodlands, Grand Baie and Port Louis, and then the hotel arranged for a taxi and driver - Krisna - on another day, and he took us to the south of the island. We went to Mahebourg, Blue Bay, Gris Gris and Grand Bassin and we would thoroughly recommend doing this sort of trip for a day. During our stay, there was a forecast cyclone, which did not materialise in the end, but the hotel treated this very calmly, kept us fully informed on what was happening, and left us feeling very confident that we would be well looked after whatever the weather did. We had one small blip on our stay, which was not to do with the hotel, but I have to say that the owners dealt with this really well. They were upset on our behalf, and took our complaint seriously and made every effort to make it up to us which more than compensated for what had happened. Based on our stay, we would recommend Marie-Michelle and Jean-Claude as excellent hosts, and would highly commend this resort to anyone."

A pristine paradise!
"We stayed in Maison d'éte for 6 days end of Nov./start of December 2007 and it was just fantastic. The hosts Marie Michele and Jean Claude are caring for their guest in a very warm, friendly and hearty way, which is true also for all the staff. This small guesthouse/hotel has 10 rooms, 6 of them in renovated bungalows and 4 in a newly opened beach house, all rooms with sea view, 2 pools just in front of the turqoise sea and you can hear the waves crashing on the coral reef which is about 200 meter from the empty, white sanded beach bays infront of the hotel. We could watch the sea and the waves directly from our bed, just wonderful! All rooms are nicely decorated and very clean. We had a spacious room in the newly opened beach house and the room was designed to have the feeling to be in a beach bungalow with open front to the sea and an open view to the sugar cane roof. This guest house is perfect for someone who wants to relax in a remote nature place away from the tourist masses. There are no other hotels around, it is just neighboured by weekend houses/villas of mauritian families, so you have the beach and sea all for you, where you can snorkel just in front of the house. However you can go in 10 minutes by car to Belle Mare Plage, where a lot of luxurious resort are located, which we found as one of the best beaches in Mauritius. Marie Michele and Jean Claude are also running a wonderful à la carte restaurant at maison d'ete with a mixture of creol-french cuisine serving the best food we had in Mauritius. And the prices are also very moderate, so that you can go for a full menu with starters/main course/desert/wine for around 20-25â¬. This value is unbeatable for the high quality food, which is served compared to the high prices charged at the typical hotel resorts. The homepage of maison d'éte is not showing the full beauty of this place, although it convinced us already to go there. Facit: If you are looking for an individual, pristine, relaxing and beautiful place - go to la maison d'éte!"

Perfect in everyway
"This has to be one of the greatest places I have ever stayed in. The service was perfect, the room was spottless, and the food could not have been better. My wife and I spent 2 weeks here during our honeymoon, and could not have been more pleased. Your bungallow opens up to the Indian Ocean, and you can hear the waves crashing all night long. The prices are very reasonable, and the management is more than willing to help you find transportation, and/or provide it. The food was the best on the island. If I could ever go back I would stay here again 100%. I've never received a gift before from a staff member anywhere I have stayed, and I received one here. Our waitress bought us some postcards right before we left, and it was an extremely nice gesture. This is definetly the place if you want some privacy and peace. The only draw back was the distance to other attractions on the island, but if you want privacy you got it. Also the east side of the island tends to be windier than the west. Trust my advice and go here. You'll love it"

Fantastic Hotel and restaurant!
"We stayed in this 6 room hotel for 4 nights in December. It is about 5km from Belle Mare on a quieter section of the coast and is run by a friendly couple who are very welcoming. The rooms are fairly small but clean and nicely decorated. All have a sea view. The hotel has a small pool and you can snorkle on the coral reef straight off the rocks in front of the hotel. There is a lovely restaurant and bar which serves fantastic food including very good fish dishes and also pizzas. We tried another local restaurant but found this one was the best. Great place to stay if you like small hotels rather than resorts."
