"The Maritim is a wonderful hotel and as our first trip to Mauritius was a great welcome to a lovely island. From the moment we arrived we were made welcome, the hotel was heavily booked and we had been upgraded to a junior suite, absolutely fantastic. Own living room, huge dressing area and a fabulous bedroom. View from room beautiful straight across the bay. Excellent food in all restaurants. One restaurant on edge of the beach and at night they bring the tables out onto the sand. There is a lovely cocktail bar to sit and listen to local bands. If you are wanting to get active there is a very good stables at the hotel, the horses are good quality and really well looked after, a ride along the beach or out in the countryside is hard to beat. If you want a great holiday this is the place to stay."

"Well where can I start this was the best holiday I have ever been on, we got married there in the middle of sept last year, from the moment we got to the hotel nothing was too much trouble for the staff, we stayed in a comfort room until we got married which was at the end of the first week for the second week we got a free upgrade to the bridal sweet which is out of this world. Food was good but by the end of the 2nd week I was looking forward to having some English food, the pool was great as well, no problems on the beach lots of room no problems with a sun lounger etc,we did quite a lot of the water sports some are free some you have to pay for but cheap all the same, went fishing with a local guy a few times called Mario he on the beach every day top fellow, the hotel tells you not to use the guys on the beach but when they wanted £180 for half days fishing he was charging £120 for a full day caught a yellow fin tuna as well 44lb all in all it was a great holiday from start to finish."

"My husband and I stayed at the Maritim as part of our honeymoon in April 2006 and thought it was great. The first thing you notice when you walk up the red carpet into the lobby area is the absolutely stunning view across the bay with the sun glinting off the sea. Your given a complimentary fruit cocktail on arrival and check in is completed for you. The rooms are very clean and spacious with balconies looking out to the sea. The pool area has a fabulous large infinity pool with the comfiest sun lounger you've ever used and you get really fluffy towels to use too. The food was excellent with alternate buffet nights each with a different theme. The bar that sits above the pool area is fabulous for a drink at night with the beach right beside you its very relaxing. The staff are excellent and even on our last day they made sure we got as many drinks as possible before our all inclusive cards ran out. It was my birthday while staying at the Maritim and in the morning I had a cake and champagne delivered complimentary of the hotel which was very enjoyable. The only slight disappointment (and why I gave 9 out of 10) is the beach area and the sea. Due to it being quite rocky on that part of the island you weren't able to wander into the sea without shoes on and the water isn't as crystal clear as it is on the other side of the island. Despite this I would still highly recommend this hotel. We are returning to Mauritius in 2008 but to a different hotel on the other side of the island, just because we wanted to try somewhere else. "My family and I visited the Maritim Hotel for Christmas and new year 2007/08 and a great time was had by all. The staff were really friendly and helpful at all times. We stayed in the 'comfort rooms' which were clean and comfortable ,not the best bathrooms but ok. The food was good with plenty of choice, but there wasn't un-limited food like some all-inclusive deals. There were no snacks available during the day ,you were allowed one breakfast, lunch and dinner anything extra had to be paid for although drinks were available all day. The pool area was great and we never had problems getting a sun lounger. The beach was also good and the water sports were excellent! I would highly recommend the Maritim and hope to return !"

"This hotel was perfect, the rooms were well looked after, clean and well equipped. Because we were on honeymoon, they had made extra effort and put rose petals in the room and left a chilled bottle of sparkling wine. The main buffet restaurant was fantastic, different themed evenings so you didn't get the same food all the time and all freshly cooked and very tasty. The other restaurants were also amazing - the one on the beach was very romantic, with our table being placed right by the sea; no better spot could be found! There was also an a la carte restaurant, this one was pricey but well worth it for the service and the food. There was a lot to do within the hotel as well, water sports, boat trips, horse riding, golf, a spa centre, shopping and you were well looked after at every point. The only thing which wasn't quite perfect was that it was almost impossible to get a spot on a sun lounger unless you were up at the crack of dawn. All round fantastic hotel which you couldn't fail to love, whether for honeymoon or just a relaxing time."

"Well where do I start, this is definitely the best hotel I have ever stayed in, from the moment you arrive to the time when you leave you were treated with the best service. I got married in this hotel, with a party of 18 people, some of which did not stay at the maritime, this was not a problem the hotel sorted everything. Anything we wanted the supplied, for example my wedding dress, there no where to hang it, so they hung in their managers office! We stayed in a prestige room, I am so glad we upgraded, these rooms where amazing, the biggest bathroom I have ever been in with shutters opening from the bath looking straight through into the room. We got complimentary champers when got to our room, and was made to feel relaxed throughout the stay. The wedding day went very smoothly the organised everything, made sure everyone had the right flowers and buttonholes, made sure everyone was where they was meant to be. Very magical! All inclusive facilities were good, water skiing and all sorts, the food was very good, a different theme each night of the week. The staff made the holiday always smiling and ever helpful. If you want luxury and very good service, and a all-round superb holiday then make sure you book with maritime hotels, I will definitely be going back."

"A group of 9 of us stayed at the Maritim for 12 nights in October 2005. Our group included my parents (who had visited the Maritim twice before), my husband and me and our five year old son, and my brother, his wife and their two children aged 3 and 1. What a fantastic holiday, and what a great hotel! A measure of our enjoyment is the fact that we are going back next year – the first time I have ever wanted to go back to a holiday destination again! We had prestige rooms, very close to the beach. Ground floor rooms are best as you can use the patio doors to go in and out – if you have 1st or 2nd floor rooms, you need to go around the ‘back’ of the building to reach the stairs. The rooms themselves are very spacious with plenty of cupboard and drawer space, a settee, a huge double bed and an extra single bed for our son. The bathrooms are the nicest I have EVER been in – walk in shower, separate room with WC and bidet, two basins and lovely big bath. We tended to use the beach rather than the pool as the kids enjoyed the beach more (and the pool was quite chilly at the beginning of our stay, though it warmed up towards the end). The beach is quite spacious with plenty of loungers and parasols (if you tip the beach attendant, they will reserve your chairs for you first thing in the morning). People reserving seats around the pool was a problem, as has been mentioned in other reviews – on the morning we left, we department from the hotel at 6.20 am, and several chairs were already reserved!!! The pool itself is a lovely big infinity pool, very nice indeed, and has a swim up bar. Food – overall standard of food excellent. We had breakfast in La Maree (the beach restaurant) each morning, which you can use for breakfast when staying in the prestige rooms. Lunch options include a la carte in La Maree, bar snacks in the main bar, and a la carte/buffet (alternate days) in the main restaurant. We tried all three options, but enjoyed La Maree best. Evening meals are mainly buffet style in the main restaurant with plenty of choice and a good variety of themes. Twice a week it is waiter service, rather than buffet, again with a choice of menu. We also tried both the a la carte restaurants in the evening – Mon Desir and La Maree. We enjoyed both, though the service was quite slow, the standard of food, particularly in Mon Desir, was excellent. I would highly recommend having an evening meal in La Maree on the beach – the atmosphere is just lovely. Drinks – we particularly enjoyed the cocktails – you can’t beat a pina colada at 11.30 am on the beach (!) – and there was a good choice of these on the all inclusive menu. House wine, both red and white, was very good. The kids loved Orangina and drank it by the gallon! Drink service in the main bar was sometimes very slow pre-dinner, even though it didn’t seem very busy. Beach drink service excellent – and they also bring round cool flannels – what luxury! Kids Club – run by Ghislaine & Sophia – both very friendly. Our 5 and 3 year olds enjoyed going to the club, and there was a weekly programme of activities including outings, pony rides, face painting, DVDs, etc, etc. There weren’t any other children in the kids club during our stay which was quite disappointing (and surprising as it’s such a great facility, and there were quite a few children staying in the hotel). There is also a little playground outside the kids club. We had a babysitter for the 3 kids every night – Sophia and Ghislaine took it in turns. Cost of this was £2 per hour, plus £8 transport cost each night. Definitely worth it to have an enjoyable evening! Staff – all the staff (with the very occasional exception) were pleasant, friendly and efficient, and went out of their way to be helpful. Tortoises – near the main gate is the ‘farm’, which has an enclosure with giant tortoises – they are 250 years old!! Well worth seeing – and the kids can ride them (arrange through the kids club). Activities – water skiing, snorkeling, glass bottom boat all free of charge, and well worth a go. My husband did a PADI diving qualification while he was there, the diving staff seemed very efficient and professional. Golf – nine hole golf course on site at the hotel – my father and brother played a couple of times – cost about £8 including clubs and balls. Entertainment – evening entertainment was low key – bands, occasional dancers etc. Quite pleasant but nothing special. Overall, we all had a fantastic holiday, and I would highly recommend the Maritim. It is a very popular hotel for weddings (at least one a day!) and honeymoons, but we found it a great family destination as well. I can’t wait to go back next year!"

Not the best choice in August

"We enjoyed our holiday in Mauritius but it wasn't the idyllic paradise we were expecting. The Maritim was set out in wonderful grounds with a beachfront location but the beach area was small and in August it was far too windy and chilly to sunbathe on. All the guests settled around the pool which became rather lively with more children than I had imagined would be there. The rooms were fine and clean. The food ok although, as with all all inclusive resorts, it quickly became boring. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere. We enjoyed the caberet but it was the only option in the evening. Mauritius does not have a great deal to offer so if you don't like to sunbathe your options are limited. There are some beaches on Mauritius that are sheltered and warm in August so do some research if you are going in the summer. The rum cocktails at the Maritim were lethal - beware! Service was not always fast and I did not feel that the staff were happy to be of service- I think it pays to tip generously at the beginning of your holiday!"

"We've just returned from 8 days at the Maritim and it is fair to say it is complete paradise. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the bar and restaurant staff cant do enough to make sure you are happy and comfortable. The food is amazing, especially that in La Maree on the beach. The rooms are lovely and airy and beautifully presented with rose petals on the bed. The pool area is gorgeous but you have to be up early to get a bed down there! The beach is lovely and you dont get hassled by the men selling the necklaces and sarongs. Lots of watersports on offer and a golf course although my boyfriend said its not the best course. Lots and lots of weddings here and even more honeymooners, so its very romantic. We went horse racing on the saturday in Port Luis which is fun, but dont do deep sea fishing if you get at all sea sick!!!!!!! I'd love to go back!!!!"

Maritim Memories

"What a lovely place - We stayed for 10 days for our honeymoon and wish we could have stayed longer (left 9th June 05). Even after a 12 hr flight it is all worth it when you walk into the reception area and see a great sight of the Indian Ocean. We stayed in a comfort room which was more than you need with a nice balcony that had sea and pool views. The staff cannot do enough to help - they are all very friendly and courteous and will never walk past you without saying hello and making eye contact. One of the highlights for me was the fact that there was so much to do during the day, a whole list of activities are arranged from morning until the evening - from water skiing to football (make sure you have a pair of old trainers with you!!). Golf course is a bit like a 'pitch and putt' but I hired some clubs for the 10 days and played nearly everyday, no strict dress codes, on my last day I even played in flip flops/bare feet. Great if you are a sporty person. All of the restaurants are superb with a different menu each night in the Belle Vue (buffet or set menu). The Mon Desir is set in an amazing environment and the food is top notch (we saved our complimentary honeymoon dinner until the end of the 10 days and it made it even more special). The La Maree beach restaurant was a lovely setting with some of the tables on the sand and we had lunch there most days (catch of the day was a popular choice for us). If you are on the 'all inclusive' make sure you clarify what is included or you could get a shock when you check out. We met some lovely people there who were either on their honeymoon or celebrating a special anniversary. We would love to go again!!!!"
