Salt Lick - excellent
"I had seen this lodge and on the internet and thought it looked very inviting - I wasn't disappointed. The rooms, food and service are excellent. On the night we satyed, there were only 7 guests in the whole lodge but we still got the full restaurant, bar and housekeeping service. The restaurant, bar and rooms all have excellent views of the watering hole. The ground level viewing point is excellent - I could have watched the family of elephants for ever!"

Great lodge - would love to return
"We stayed at this lodge in February and thoroughly enjoyed it. The layout of the lodge was fabulous and staying in raised accommodation was brilliant, a real novelty. The rooms were the best out of the three lodges we stayed in, very sweet and well maintained. The staff were very friendly and called us when animals visited the watering hole. The underground observation room was fantastic - getting right up close to the elephants was such an experience. We only saw one herd of elephants whilst we were in the sanctuary which was quite disappointing, however the lodge itself and the one experience of the elephants visit to the watering hole at night made up for up. We would love to return to this lodge one day. The lodge was very quiet due to the recent troubles, however we saw no signs of any unrest and felt safe at all times. We would encourage people to return to Kenya and go on safari, it's brilliant."

"Amazing place to stay. The lodge is built on stilts over a waterhole in a private game sanctuary. Try and get a room facing the waterhole and be prepared to get no sleep as you watch the animals coming and going all night for water (21 elephnats make a lot of noise drinking!). There is an underground viewing tunnel that is only a few feet from the waterhole where you can get even closer, or sit in reception where you can almost touch the animals drinking. The food was really good standard and if you are staying for a few days the main hotel Taita Hills Game Lodge has a swimming pool, tennis courts and a gift shop."

Best place EVER
"This in my opinion is the best place EVER. I have now stayed here 3 times and its the only time I ever feel like a kid on Christmas Eve! The place was owned by Hilton but now Sarova and its even better than before. Very good quality accomodation. The bedroms are all in roundavels (no idea how to spell that) and are linked with walkways above the ground. There is an underground tunnel that comes out next to the water hole. The downstairs area also has an area of water that is about a metre or so away from you and elephant after elephant comes to this, its absolutely amazing. Cats used to visit at night but dont as much any more, it doesnt ruin the place at all, its amazing. The upstairs bar is great as you can see quiet a way out, looking for animals on their way to the water hole is exciting. The birds that land inches away from you are out of this world. You can also pay a little to go on a night game drive, which I have never done because I love the lodge so much. If you dont stay at this lodge youre mad. Any questions please feel free to ask. x"

Lodge on stilts!!
"Stay here was really good. Not much of a welcome when we arrived, but all the staff were pleasent. The best thing about this lodge was the viewing for the water hole. You go through an underground tunnel and at the end is a room that means you are at eye level with the ground. You are so close to teh animals it is unbelieveable, and you really get an idea of how big the elephanst really are!! There is also a smaller water hole round part of the seating area in the main lodge building that the elephants use in the dark - they are so close you could almost touch them. The food here was really good and the meat the chef was carving was delicious. There is a board up in the reception area which tels you where the animals in the park were last spotted. If there is an animal you want to see, remember the post numbers and tell your driver. The roms here were really nice. They are quite big and the beds were the mpost comfortable we had in the whole of our stay in Kenya. The showers were really powerful - massage for your shoulders! Overall a really good stay, which fantastic close ups of the waterhole animals."

Rooms are very good and clean. Food excellant. views are out of this world.. lots of wildlife even around the lodge all day.. great underground viewing room right up close to waterhole. Try and get the first room near reception to the left you won't be dissapointed . ask to book this room when booking trip. We will be visiting again in dec and jan this year can't wait. If anyone is staying at the beach in mombasa before hand . book your trip through Rhino safaris ask for the guide Francis Mwana He's a top man. Happy travels . "Stayed at this lodge for one night, whilst on honeymoon in Kenya. The lodge is situated around a watering hole, which can be seen from all of the rooms. This lodge is well planned and rooms are lovely - they have a lot of character to them and are very clean. The food at the lodge was lovely - buffet style and plenty of choice! Would definately recommend this lodge."

Great wildlife views
"The lodge is situated within the boundaries of the Taita Hills Sanctuary. From a distance you see the accommodation on stilts and the watering hole just beneath. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff and were lucky to get a room with the watering hole directly beneath our window. The room itself is adequate, clean and tidy. The restaurants have fantastic views of the watering hole and surrounding space making great viewing of the visiting wildlife. The food is very tasty as was the cocktails."

BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD IN MY OPINION
"I went to Kenya in June 2004 with my friend for my 40th Birthday, we went on Parks and Peaks Safari. We stayed at the Salt Lick Lodge for one night. Was the most fantastic experience I could have dreamed of, suddenly herds of Water Buffalo and Elephants came to the Waterhole to drink. Fantastic !!!!!! Could not think of a better way to spend my birthday then at this Lodge."
