Brilliant value for money

"Really amazing value for money! The rooms were big and clean, mine had a shower and a toilet just down the hall that was only for my use. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely. Arnold really made the trip though, he was really friendly, met us at the airport, and gave us lots of advise on what to do and where to go in Lamu. He also arranged a Dhow trip for us which again was superb and very good value. Jambo House is a bit hidden away but Arnold has recently put signs up making it really easy to find! And it's very safe walking around Lamu even at night - the only concern walking down the alleys was the donkeys running about....give them right of way! Thanks Arnold, great stay."

"I was warmly welcomed by the owner, who was always available for help and advice. The feeling was not being a paying hotel-guest but a friend. Rooms are clean. Nice breakfast on the rooftop-terrace. The house is located in the centre of Lamu's Old town, very picturesque. Pricewise a real bargain."

Goes the extra mile

"Arnold really does go the extra mile to make ordinary budget lodgings into a great experience. The rooms are reasonably comfortable for the price. All have showers, some have toilets as well, if not there is a separate, lockable toilet per room. The roof terrace is a great place to relax and cool down, there's even drinks provided in the evening. Breakfast is included and very satisfying. However, it is the helpfulness, friendliness and willingness to go that extra mile, of both him and his staff, that makes the difference between average and outstanding."

Budget accommodation

"The owner cannot be faulted for his welcome and friendliness but this is a basic hotel. It is very cheap and therefore good value for money but it is hidden away a bit and up alleyways that have no light so take a torch and be aware that if you don't like wandering around dark alleys this may not be the place for you. The ground floor rooms have windows that open on to the alleys so we would recommend asking for rooms upstairs so you can open the shutters more comfortably (which you need to do when it is hot). Some rooms have bathrooms 'en-suite' and some have them down the hall. All are fine and clean. I would recommend this hotel for someone on a budget."

Relaxing

"Located inside the city, but not far from the center and the waterfront, Jambohouse is a really sweet place to stay at an affordable price. The roof terrace is brilliant to take the nice breakfast (included in the price), relax during the day, watch the stars at night and... dry your laundry after a kayak tour! The owner Arnold and his team are really sweet and helped us chose restaurants and advised us about places to see, told us about Lamu and madesure our stay went best possible. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. We were in Kenya for one month and Lamu has been the best part of our stay, it is such an authentic and beautiful place with lovely friendly people, and Jambohouse has been the perfect place to stay and we were amazed by the quality we got for this price. Basically we highly recommend the place! Camille& Elisabeth"

Friendly owner and nice place to stay!

"First of all, we have been very glad to see the warmth of Arnold when he came to meet us at the airport and brought us to his nice house. He has always been willing to help and ready to answer our questions. Arnold has traveled a lot and it was funny to share our experiences and vision about travelling. The house is one of those typical houses of Lamu, with much space and a very beautiful terrace (half sunny and half shadowed, which is good when the sun is too hard) where we were having our breakfasts, relaxed while having a drink and playing some of the available board games. The room was basic but comfortable, nicely coloured, equipped with WC and shower. It was clean with a good bed (with mosquito net). The price we have paid for this place makes it a very cheap place to stay, and thanks to all the positive points mentioned above, I would definitely recommend it to anyone."
