36 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"I and my family just got back from Egypt after staying at the Sharm Plaza in sharm El Sheikh. What can I say...... if you are expecting a 5* hotel think again. If you are travelling to Egypt purely to visit the many tourist attractions, then this hotel would be perfect as you wonât be around and subject to the bad service at breakfast, the pool bar, lunch and dinner. We were initially debating about staying for 2 weeks, so we could do the touristy stuff the first week and then use the second week to just relax at the hotel and its private âso called beachâ........thank god we didnât. This hotel is full of rude and arrogant Russian, so many that I doubt there were any Russians left in Russia that week. It wouldnât have been so bad, but we felt that they were favouritised by the hotel staff. Rather than being polite to staff, you have to behave like a Russian to get any service at all. Several times the Russian were served before us as they have no idea how to queue, but you have to blame the hotel staff for this as they have a lack of recognition and awareness as to who was next to be served. On one particular occasion we went down to the pool side way after breakfast and asked for 4 cokes only to be told we had to wait for at least half an hour once breakfast was over. Bearing in mind it was at least 11.30am, we were expected to wait in the blistering heat for drinks, only to watch another couple, 5 minutes later order 2 pints of beer and be served right away. It was ridiculous!!!! There were even time restrictions on when you could get coffee. This hotel only offers all-inclusive, but what they donât mention is the time restrictions in getting the drinks and food you want. When you pay for all-inclusive you expect to order drinks where and when you want, but no not at this hotel. Oh and if you would like a sunbed by the pool, please be prepared to arise at 7.00am to get one, before the Russian and Germans get there, put their towel down and go back to bed. Abit of advice that may make your stay abit easier, is to carry your own cutlery, because you wonât get any until your foods gone cold. On our first day, at the two buffet restaurants, we had no idea what to do, staff looked through you like you were glass. There were no signs to tell guests to wait for a table, yet you were expected to do so. Like we do in England we queued for a table, only to have the Russians walk straight into the restaurant oblivious to the queue and plonk their fat arses down on the nearest available table. So in time we decided to do the same, everyone for themselves!!!! Waiting for drinks at dinner time was like watching paint dry, it really was. Thank god it wasnât this generation of Egyptians that created all that beautiful artwork. Coz there would be none!!! A very small minority of staff are very friendly and soo helpful, but the rest need a good kick up their backside (specially the elder ones), which I think they were all given, due to the complaints the hotel had had that week. Our very last dinner before our flight home, was outstanding with the service, you had your drinks within seconds and you didnât even have to ask for cutlery. So may be things are looking up, I hope so, because the actual hotel is very nice and in a great location. I canât complain about everything tho, the cleanliness of the hotel was outstanding, our cleaner was the only person who made our stay worth while, and our rep was great. I recommend all the excursions, they are well worth the money and it is on the out side that you meet the real people of Egypt. However there are some cone men out there; donât be fooled by their generosity, as they only have your wallet glistening in their minds. If you are English be prepared to be bombarded with the phrases âlovely jubblyâ, âalright mateâ, âmingerâor âtickerty booâ for the Scottish, the first time it is funny, but it soon became very irritating (Itâs a way of reeling you in)."

Has changed from Crown Plaza to Sharm Plaza. Says 5* but only 3*
"We stayed here for 1 week as a last minute booking, in a junior suite with balcony and sea view. The room 1128, did have a balcony and sea view but looked the same as all the other rooms don't know what made it a junior suite. Bathroom old but clean, cleaning staff were great. Tip the staff, if you want to after 2 or 3 days and you'll be fussed over, also write a note to go with the tip, helps them keep there job. Main 2 restaurants, La Veranda and Palms, buffet style, food was poor, not much variety. 3 other resturants Via Veneto best for breakfast, continetal, Italian at night, good but slow service. Al-Hawara, Lebanese excellent. C View down on the beach, simple but good. You have to book last 3 before hand and they all get busy. 5 pools and towels go out early before 7am. The beach is man made, small, cramped and a bit dirty, you get into the sea from pontoons into deep water. Entertainment team down by the beach during the day with loud disco, volley ball, aqua aerobics, boule. Night time entertainment very good, singers, dancers, quiz, all outside. Not the sort of holiday we had expected, we were hoping for long wide beaches, peace and quite, 5* but enjoyed the stay for what we had paid as all inclusive. Since the take over staff are working very hard to bring it up to 5*. 100's of steps everywhere as set on a hill, not good if you don't like climbing up to breakfast, lunch and dinner, the pool, the beach"

Don't come here unless you want food poisoning
"My partner and I are in our room for the 4th day running. We both have food poisoning. Not surprising at all considering the hygeine standards ( or lack of ) in the 2 buffet restaurants. Those that have stated that things have improved here are wrong. The rooms are ok and cleaning staff lovely. But the food in the buffet restaurants is dangerous to eat. I poured some water into a mug from one of the urns and it was orange, so it's doubtful that they use bottled water for the teas/coffees. I walked out of the restaurant at breakfast on the second day after not even being able to get something as basic as a plate to eat off. Tables overflowed with used dishes etc and no waiters in sight to remove them. Just a couple of official looking headless chickens. The best place to eat was the c view restaurant and I wish we'd stuck to that. There is hardly any beach and one of the pontoons you have to walk along to get in the water is pretty old. I know some people on here say that the russians etc aren't too bad but if you can't beat 'em join 'em and get your towel on a sun bed at 7 a.m. or you just don't get one. We tried to eat at the Italian restaurant one evening but were turned away because we hadnt booked. There were 12 empty tables there. No way is this hotel 5 star. I could carry on and probably will when we get home tomorrow. But with internet access charges being extortionate I will stop writing and get off line. This is the worst holiday I have ever had. I've been to Sharm 4 times now. Stayed at the Dreams beach resort and the melia sinai and they were wonderful. This experience means I probably won't come back to Egypt again."

Great time had, worth a booking @ the "Sharm Plaza"
"Well we got back today 01/10/2009 after all the bad reviews we really didn't know what to expect, we were thinking of cancelling but aren't we glad we didn't, yes, the hotel is only a three/four star, having said that once they have their new system under control it will be much better, our room was spotless and kept that way cleaned each day, the pool areas are extremely clean, all five of them, main pool filters replaced twice a day, the pool staff are great , we always had a sunbed (just drop the pool lads a quid and you get the same beds every day) no need for the six o'clock towel drop to get in before the Russians!!! yes there are lots of them they are rude and arrogant and why all the staff love the English they cannot do enough for you, the food is of a good standard if you are not expecting an english menu, the pool bar does bbq at lunchtime, and Vie Venetra is an italian which is very good, it can take a while to get a drink we found by having a laugh and joke with the bar staff you soon start jumping the queue, If Sabrie is on the beer pump @ the pool bar ask for small "fluff" and you will get a full beer not the foamy halves the Ruskies get. If you have walking difficultities this may not be the place for you as there are a lot of steps, however you can get the golf trolly up from the main pool, also we highly recommend the trip to Cairo/Pyramids by air, a long day but worth every penny, the on site dive centre is also very good,do a night dive about £45 amazing, take a mask and fin set , the house reefs are the best and all the dive boats come in the afternoon so its got to be good!!! all in all if you treat the staff with the respect they deserve you will be well looked after, we had a fantastic time and will be going back in Feb, Hope this helps you if your going soon! Say Hi to Mustafa at the main pool, lad with the specs what a top man!!!"

No way is this a 5 star hotel
"Stayed on an all inclusive basis for 1 week fron 17th Sept 2009. Although the rooms and facilities are ok, they are nowhere near a true 5 star hotel's expectations. The worst part, was the service provided by the waiters in all of the hotel's restaurants. If you managed to get the correct food, or the correct drink, you were lucky. They just seemed to run around making themselves busy without actually doing anything. In the self service restaurants, you would have to ask 3 times just to get a drink. There was an obvious lack of how to run a restaurant. The food itself was ok but again not 5 star standard. Overall I would rate this hotel only a 3 star"

A wonderful holiday everything was fantastic
"Now known as the Sharm Plaza this hotel was taken over three days before we arrived and the previous reviews were horrendous. However we had an absolutly fabulous time. The food was excellent with more choices than you could eat, it was nicely presented. The puddings/sweets were a work of art. and tasted even better. We used the Roman Pool and this was spotlessly clean at all times. The staff from all the restaurants were wonderful and attentive and polite. Nothing was any trouble for them. A special mention to the staff from Vio Veneto restautant who are located by the Roman Pool, they ensured drinks were bought round to us during the day and looked after everyone. I would definatly recommend this hotel."

What a brilliant Place
"We have arrived back from the renamed hotel last night. I can understand that with such a major change in a hotel there are going to be teething problems. the first couple of days we expeienced the plastic cups, the lack of choice of food etc: but then the new staff arrived, and the menus became more varied the pools were extremely clean, the staff could not do enough for you. we have stayed in 5 star hotels in Dubai (who really know what 5 star should be) and belive me, the service and standard of food here is not far behind, The all inclusive certainly is now all inclusive. There is a full drinks menu with what is included, and we never waited more than 5 mins for a drink to arrive. Every restaurant has an all inclusive menu and the food was excellent. We have never been all inclusive before, and as my daughter says we are "travel snobs" but we are now looking to re-book this very hotel again as a base to explore the area further. Ignore all the bad reviews, and give this hotel a chance. All the couples we met on this trip have all said they will be going back. To the a hotel a very special thank you for a great holiday."

fantastic holiday! last year! beware when booking Crown Plaza, or should I say Sharm Plaza!
"Me and my boyfriend went to the crown plaza last year and we had a fab time there, we were there on a half board basis which was probably the best option for us as we like to eat out, i would say the food was ok, but not really to mine and my boyfriends taste...everything apart from that it was lovley, rooms are a good size and modern looking, rooms are cleaned everyday change bedding. beach was beautiful with stunning sealife and coral. made great friends wth some of the staff really lovley guys always polite and helpful with everything as long as you treat these guys with the respect you would expect then theres never a problem, as ive read some bad things and this is not true. Me and my boyfriend booked to go back 1st October this year, we booked this holiday 3months back and we were really happy to be going again, only then we recieved a email from Crown Plaza/Sharm Plaza that if we want to keep our booking that we would have to pay an extra 400pound the hotel has been taken over by new manaement, only now taking bookings on an all inclusive basis! we were not prepared to pay the extra, we've now had to find another hotel and have lost out on money! SO BEWARE AS THEY ARE STILL SELLING HOLIDAYS AS CROWN PLAZA and may change there mind at any point! hope this is helpful."

....we had a great time
"We returned from the Crowne Plaza at the end of August after a 2 week stay. It was our first time in Egypt & I have to say we had a great time. Speaking from our own experience the majority of the staff were really friendly & the waiters in the Veranda restaurant were great with our kids, the food was certainly better than some of the all inclusive experiences we've had although our kids are not adventurous eaters and so lived off pasta from the cooking station for most of the holiday. The drinks service and table clearing wasn't great but to be fair the waiters were rushed off their feet so we planned our meals avoiding the peak times. Before we went away we were advised not to eat the salads & only eat fruit that you peeled yourself, we stuck to this & weren't ill - we had the odd rumbly tummy but you get that anyway when abroad. On arrival we were told our twin room had been upgraded to a family suite, we had bottled water and fruit left in the room during the holiday & when the kettle blew up we reported it at reception by the time we'd walked the short distance back to our room there was a member of the hotel staff waiting for us with a new one which he tested for us before leaving. The hotel has some of the best snorkelling ever & is in a lovely setting."

"I was dissapointed with a number of things regarding this holiday but to keep it brief, if you are an All Inclusive fan as I am, then this place is NOT for you! They really do not have the 'All Inclusive' setup, in fact,it is almost non existant! One all inclusive restaurant and one restaurant all inclusive for 3 nights a week with a limited fixed menu! The food in the main restaurant was just about acceptable after the 'cattle market/lottery' seeting! if a little repetitive!(only one bar is all inclusive with many items ie Tonic water, Whisky, apparently not all inclusive) till 10:30pm then they start charging! The staff are unaware of what is and what isnt all inclusive! The beach bars were ok! Majority of the staff were friendly, especially in the main restaurant however, the reception staff were unhelpful and miserable! Our room was clean and well maintained. The snorkeling and diving were 5* but the hotel was 2/3*"

Not what it seems
"As an all inclusive be aware, be very aware the food is not up to standard, Pizza pasta and fries as a choice for lunch is not acceptable. There were no clean towels available after 10:00 sunlounges had to be reserved by 07:30 or you didn't get one. There were not enough umberellers to give shade. As previous reviewers have said, to que up to get served cold food is not my idea of fun and if any food item run out, that was hard luck, there was no more. I can put up with the clientel but the staff were rude and ignorant any complaints or enquiries were met with stoney silence. The pools are ok and the snorkeling is good. Too far from Naema bay to walk (with three kids)and not enough for them to do in the complex. Rooms adequate but cleanliness could be better, water pressure and showers not adequate. This is the third time to Sharm and is definitely our worst experience. I guess we chose unwisely!!"
