Maritim Jolie Ville Royal Peninsula Hotel & Resort
14 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
great hotel,spotlessly clean,friendly staff
"We booked this hotel after twice being let down by a travel agent on the internet for our original choices of the Savoy and then the Jaz Mirabel Beach,so we did not have any prior knowledge of this hotel. On arrival we were a little apprehensive because it was for our silver wedding anniversary. We were impressed at the reception area and it did not take long to book in.We booked an executive pool view room but although the room was fantastic it was about 200 metres from the pool.We did complain about this and we were offered an alternative room a little closer but still not really a pool view.In fact all the rooms are not really around the pool. That said the room was spotlessly clean with a huge bed and bathroom with walk in shower and twin sinks. All the rooms are single storey built in impressive lawned grounds all around a huge pool again all very clean and tidy.It is an enormous resort and it would take 5 minutes to walk to the main bars and restaurants and gym.It is a hotel that feels like it had been been used as a corporate hotel rather than an all inclusive resort and at the moment it shows.
We were a little disappointed with the repetitive food on offer in
the main restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The food could also have been served a bit hotter. You also had a different menu for all inclusive to the other paying guests and we felt that the all inc. guests were being short changed by this and should have access to the same menu as everyone else.We were pleased with most of the staff (Amir the waiter in the piano bar was excellent) but some of them were a little miserable on times we don't know if it was to do with it being Ramadam.
The complex is situated on the main road between the airport and Naama Bay and gives a free shuttle service to the beach and Naama bay.The manmade beach is excellent with the beach bar offering better quality and more choice than the pool bar.The snorkelling is unbelievable being on a shelf of coral with a steep drop off cliff effect underwater and is a must for all visitors to this hotel even though there are a lot of wooden steps to get down to the beach it is worth it.
All in all we had a good week with not a cloud in the sky in a good quality, clean hotel with million dollar dive and snorkelling
views. If they could just offer more choice with the food and all inclusive facilities it could be so much better again."

"Just returned from our 10 nt stay in the Royal Peninsular. After comparing this with the higher prices charged to stay at the other Maritim hotels, I would definitely recommend the Royal Peninsular. The hotel, it's grounds, pool and bedrooms are all immaculate and very clean. The staff are a little slow, but I got the impression that's just the Egyptian way! Don't pay to go on half day snorkelling trips (very expensive) they are not anywhere near as good as the snorkelling from the beach at the Maritim Golf resort which you can catch the hotel bus to (runs every 15 mins)
We would definitely stay at this hotel again. We ate and drank everything (fish, salads, ice) and the only time we felt slightly off was after visiting Naama Bay for food!"

very quiet relaxing hotel
"My husband and i have just returned from a weeks stay, we went for our 5th wedding anniversary having spent our honeymoon at the maritim in mauritius we knew it would be a good standard and we were not disapointed.
The hotel is set in beautiful gardens with the bars and resturants set in one area, and the rooms which are in bungalows are dotted around the grounds, making it really quiet and spacious.
The rooms are beautiful with marble bathrooms with walk in shower big enough for 2 .
We were all inclusive which i would highly recommend as the food and drink could be expensive. The only complaint was that it didnt start till 11 o clock so if you wanted a drink out side the resturant you would have to pay .we soon resolved this by getting extra water through the day and stocking the fridge in the room.
The food in the main resturant was very good as part of all inclusive you can eat once in the italian a la carte very nice, and once in the thai with 12 dollars each off your bill which was fantastic.
The beer was good if you like wine the rose and red were ok (the egyptians are not renowned for their wine making skills so you cant expect your favorite pinot)
The waiter service to start was slow but after a few tips £ and making friends with the waiters the service was good and they were very polite and helpfull.
The pool bar menu was quite limited so for lunch we went to the beach bar(5 min ride mini bus from hotel every 15 mis) which had more choice.
All the resturants had china plates with linen napkins no plastic party cups and paper napkins in sight.
We didnt experiance any illness during our stay ,we had ice in all our drinks brushed our teeth in the tap water ate enough to feed a small village. We also ate out a few times in narma bay and on a snorkling trip where it was home cooked food.
The best advice we got was to drink loads of water at least 3 to 4 litres a day ,dehydration has the same symptoms as food poisioning,
We will return to this hotel as the standard for the price is outstanding dont be put off by reviews of people expecting far too much just because its a 5 * hotel( its not a 5* price). If this hotel was in many other destinations in the world it would be out of most peoples reach."

"We stayed at this resort from the 5th Sept the 19th Sept.
The room was very large we had an executive, could not fault the room or the cleaning of the room. The lad that cleaned our room made different things every day from towels, like a crocodile, a snake and a swan he had these set out on the massive bed.
The resturant and it staff were very good. I dont know what people are expecting from the buffet but we could not fault it. Different every day and a good choice.
The lads who looked after the pool and the pool bar were very good they could not do enough for you.
We both had an upset tummy this lasted 24 hours we do not believe it was the food but the heat that caused this. A couple we met at the resort only ate outside and they both had it as well.
We flew with XL the company that went bust half way though our holiday. They also did not put our cases on the plane on the way out so we were without them until 11 pm on the night after we arrived. The resort gave us bathrobes and slippers and sent a bowl of fruit to the room.
Without the help of the you travel rep Seyed we would have had a lot more trouble getting back into the airport to get our cases. Seyed also bought at his own expense upset tummy pills for my Wife and an English newspaper. He also kept us informed of how and when we were going to get home when XL went bust. So thanks for all your help.
Even with XL going bust we still had a great holiday and are going back next year the staff and the resort were very good indeed."

Very Good hotel
"We stayed in the maritim between the 11th sept 08 and the 18th sept 08 for our honeymoon.
We looked for ages to find a hotel that did not have more bad reveiws then good and this one does, with good reasson this is a really good hotel and must be one of the best hotels in sharm.
The hotel is buitiful with not a spot of dirt anywhere the staff are very friendly and the rooms are massive. Being our honeymoon we were given an upgrade for free to a suit with a free bowl of fruit. The bar is also good, open from 11 till midnight with al inc drinks of local beers, wines and spirits but no cocktails you will have to pay around £5 per cocktail. The pool is massive and the hole pool area was very quite at this time of year. There is a free gym which also has a good level of equipment. There are 3 places to eat on site but only one is included in the al inc package. Theres a thai and italian but you will have to pay at these and a buffie type for al inc. There is also 24hr room service and is not bad value for money if yuo get the munchies.
Now for the not so good stuff
The food in the al inc resteraunt is not very good and is the same thing everyday. There was a lot of illness at the resort and most people thought it was the food.
The beach is a short bus ride away and a man made shingle one, but the shorkiling is ace and makes up for it!
You will be charged for everything in your mini bar and it is very expensive.
The entertament at this hotel is sooooo poor! we had 2 dvd's and 2 dancers the hole week that we were there. We took a pack of cards and tryed to make the most of it.
Now for your youtravel reps that work in the hotel DO NOT BUY any trips from these, SYEAD is the one we had and his trip are very expensive and a bit dogey we went on 3 trips with him and two of them were ok but over priced. The horse ridding was unbelivable no helmits on health and saftey THE HORSE'S HATED EACH OTHER, people getting thrown off and the horse's fighting with each other at some hut in the middle of the desert. DO NOT GO! We were given a refund by card but it never went in to our account. so be warned do not use youtravel (SYEAD)
There are maritim tours in the hotel that are a lot cheaper and a lot better so ask for them.
IN ALL WE HAD A GRATE TIME AND WOULD GO AGAIN BUT NOT THE TOURS WITH YOUTRAVEL SYEAD!"

Excellent hotel and resort
"We stayed for 10 days at the hotel in early September 2008 and it was very quiet with only about 125 guests. There was no problem getting any sunbed or sitting wherever you wanted around the excellent and substantial pool area. The temperature was always in the late 30's but nearly everyday there was a nice cooling breeze.
The food is very good with plenty of choice although it is only in the main restaurant where you truly experience the "all inclusive" deal. Whilst there is a Thai and Italian restaurant on site you can only eat once at the Italian on the "all exclusive" deal and then only from a basic menu. Thereafter you will have to pay extra. The Thai restaurant, which is excellent, has to be paid for in full although you do get a $12 dollar room credit. Expect to pay about £50/couple. There is also a "British" pub within the complex but again this is outside of the all inclusive package. The pool bar/restaurant is very good but once again only consists of a basic menu (burger, chicken, pasta) although you can go a la carte at the restaurants but all at additional cost. Note that the room mini bar although offering exactly the same drinks available in the all inclusive package have to be paid for if consumed!
The âstandardâ executive rooms are excellent - very large complete with air conditioning and flat screen tv. They are kept very clean and have a huge bathroom some with separate showers and baths. The private beach is about 5 minutes courtesy coach ride away but again this is excellent with plenty of sunbeds/shade, bar/restaurant and good toilets. Snorkelling just off the beach is great and you can hire the mask, snorkel and flippers for about £8/day at the beach. Towels are also provided at the beach.
Although if you do go all inclusive and have the mandatory wrist strap you still have to sign for everything. This is because some of the guests are only on bed and breakfast basis. There is no problem with eating or drinking anything at the hotel as all the drinks come from bottles/cans (e.g. Pepsi, 7up etc). All the fruit and vegetables are washed in their own purified water system and apparently they have obtained the 2nd highest water purification marks in Sharm.
The hotel also has a well equipped gym and very good but pricey spa facilities.
The hotel is very quiet in the evenings although they do try and put on a nightly show. Naama Bay about 12 minutes taxi ride away does make a change to go to (expect to pay no more than 40 Egyptian pounds for the taxi) although it is very hot and busy and you will get constantly badgered from everyone. Naam has a Hard Rock Café and TGIâs both very good and an extensive shopping area.
If you do venture out to Cairo to see the Pyramids try sharm-club. They cost from only about £125/person which included the transfers, flights , transport, guides and entry fees. They were extremely good and a lot cheaper than the on site holiday reps charge. Also make sure you ask the hotel for a breakfast box as you will leave very early in the morning which they will provide free of charge.
Definitely go to this hotel if you want a quiet, relaxing and luxurious holiday."

Honest and Fair Review
"After reading all the reviews for the hotels surrounding, this sounded like the best resort to stay at in Sharm.
On arrival to the resort, the staff were helpful and friendly, drinks on arrival and took our luggage to our room. The resort is really spacious, everything is on one level and was an excellent layout.
The standard room which we stayed in was big and very clean, bathroom was also big, with a bath made for 2. The air conditioning in the room is excellent. The rooms are kept very clean, fresh towels and bed made everyday. No complaints at all.
The pool is massive and kept very clean, there is loads of space surrounding the pool. There are loads of sunloungers surrounding the pool and there was never a time when the pool or surroundings were crowded. Most of the time we would have a quarter of the pool and sunlounger area between about 4-6 of us. The pool has jets, exercise bikes, volleyball net, polo goals and plenty of space to swim. There are activities planned throughout the day which are good if you have kids, but they don't pressure you to join in which you get elsewhere. You can also use the gym and table tennis tables, tennis courts and beach olleyball. Surprisingly there is no traffic noise, however you can hear planes fly over as it is so close to the airport. I would very higly recommend having some treatments in the spa. These are not included but are extremely reasonable prices and the treatments are amazing. They make you feel very comfortable and it is never busy so great availability. There is a free shuttle bus to go to the sister hotel where the beach is.
There are 3 restaurants to choose from but only 1 out of the 3 is all-inclusive. There is also a bar and a bbq bar in the centre of the pool. There was a good variety of food in the main restaurant, everything is very clean, hygienicand made with fresh ingredients, although you have to guess what the desserts are! The staff in the restaurant were polite and attentive. The drinks that are included are local wine, beer and a few spirits and soft drinks. If you want anything else you have to pay for it. At the bbq bar you can also get lunch, however for the all-inclusive you have a choice of about 5 things and the menu never changes. Some of the staff here were quite moody and not helpful. There were 2 guys in the bbq bar that we hoped to get everyday as they did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable, one is the manager and the other is Zidan.
They smoke all the bugs out of the grounds everyday as well and the grounds are very well kept.
The most annoying thing about the resort is that you have to wait around to sign for everything although you arent paying for it.
After you checkout, you then have to pay for any drinks or food although you have already paid for this in your "all-inclusive".
Personally I wouldnt bother with the transfers, you pay £30 there and £30 back for 2 of you, it costs £8 in a taxi and is much quicker. we got the transfer to the resort and it took us about an hour to get there when it was actually 10 minutes away.
There is no gift shop or any shop to purchase anything from in the resort.
There were also no tours available from the hotel.
The evening entertainment was appalling!!! 3 nights were films, another was a quiz between english and egyptian, 6 english vs 35 egyptians, and they are very competitive. we were forced into taking part. 2 other nights were basically people side stepping in different costumes. they also try to force you into going on stage, again, great when you have kids but not great when you have just eaten and dont want to look as stupid as they do! I advise taking a laptop and some music or dvds to keep yourself entertained in the evenings.
My stay at this resort was an overall lovely experience.
There are always rumours that the men are creepy and perve on the women. I felt totally comfortable with the men in the resort.
However, when you arrive at the airport BEWARE of the men, they made feel sick. Make sure you don't leave your lady/kids alone for even a second. My boyfriend was getting his bag from the scanner part so his back was turned for about 5 seconds, in that time one of the security was brushing up against me telling me that i was too beautiful, I thought he was going to touch me so I quickly moved away. I felt so uncomfortable with all the men at the airport. Obviously this isnt the resorts fault but I just wanted to make you aware of what they are like at the airport."

Good but not special
"Stayed at the Maritim in Aug 08. Hotel grounds and rooms are very good. Food is generally good. Beer is OK, wine is dreadful. Staff are helpful as is the general manager who really put his self out to ensure issues are resolved. All inclusive is here, as I understand it, is typical for Egypt and only local alcoholic drinks. Only the beer was drinkable.
Confusion can happen because there are 3 Maritims near Nama bay and only this one is listed on trip advisor.
The best point is the Swimming pool. Big and spotlessly clean. The worst is the really bad entertainment. You will really struggle to get peace by the swimming pool and at night it is not much better.
We went with teenage children and it was not the best as there were very few European children to mix with and language restricted them mixing well with locals.
Summary, good but no intention to return."

Honest Review - just returned
"Just returned from a 2week stay at the Maritim Royal Penninsula and i thought i would write an honest review to help others. The hotel itself is stunning with the main focus of the resort being the enormous gorgeous pool area. We could not fault the cleanliness or service in this hotel and the rooms are stunning.. but there still are a few things which need to be addressed before they can classify this hotel as being complete. The entertainment is non existent apart from some Egyptian dancing once a week which is awful. The animation team during the day wasn't great and the music they played got a bit repetitive.
We were only B&B but cannot fault the food on offer for breakfast, although don't expect to get the usual British breakfast there. The Italian was okay but service not great but can i just say the Thai restaurant (Siam) was the best I have ever had, we ate in there 5 times during our stay and i cannot recommend this enough to anyone, especially the service by Mohammed and staff!!
The location of the hotel isn't great as it is a bit far from the centre of namma bay and although the hotel has free buses the times aren't great - 6pm and 10pm in the evening to the centre. So majority of the time it is taxis. Don't pay more than 40 Egyptian pounds!
Please do not use the telephones in the rooms, we couldn't find any pay phones in the resort centre and used it for a few quick phone calls. We got shock of our lives when checking out. 22Egyptian pounds per minute!!
In all we were happy with the resort but i would recemmend it as somewhere to relax for a 'week'. The staff are aware of the lack of entertainment to which they say as its a new hotel they are working on this. However even at night the bars close pretty early and the entire atmosphere is so quiet and boring.
Being a young couple (25-30) we wouldn't particulary rate Naama bay as there wasn't much to do or many nice places to eat. The heat didn't help either but i wouldn't like to put off anyone from travelling here as we know people who love the place!!"

Great place to relax for a week
"My husband and I had a great week here as our honeymoon in May this year. The staff are great, the rooms are fantastic and very clean!
Unlike other hotels it would appear no-one got the dreaded stomach bug whilst staying at our hotel and the staff were so friendly! They arranged a seaside dinner for just the 2 of us and closed of a section of the seaside resturant in their sister hotel and we had about 5 staff and a chef catering JUST to our needs! Food was superb and very very cheap for what it was!
In the hotel there is a supreme little Thai resturant that we could have happily eaten at every night again with great staff.
I wasn't impressed with the over priced italian however :(
99/100 for the hotel, unfortunately onlo 75/100 for Egypt as a destination..."

outstanding yet so disappointing
"I have recently stayed at this hotel with my wife and daughter and I cannot fault it. the rooms are clean and spacious, the landscaping is beautiful, the staff and facilities are great. night entertainment the best i have ever seen to date. overall I would highly recommend this resort to anyone, couples or family. I have one big issue. Atif is employed on the grounds of the resort offering henna tattoos for sale. it has caused severe burns and imprinted scarring to my arm and alot in medical costs so far. I have tried to contact the resort to ascertain if Atif is nationally accredited and not using chemical/dangerous products. I would hope such a great place would have these checked. my wifes hand is now bubbling up. How do I contact resort management??? Sad end to a great holiday"

"I have just arrived back after a brilliant week at this hotel. You can't fault the hotel or the staff. The staff can't do enough upon arrival we were taken to our room before we had put the cases down the reception were ringing to make sure our room was ok which were bigger and better than expected. They were cleaned everyday fresh towels complementary water put in room daily. No need to take towels for pool as you are issued a towel card which you can use round the pool or at the beach and with this you are given towels daily. We stayed in block 45 very close to pool and reception. The spa is a must and Ahmead is excellent he walks round the pool doing free massages to give you a feel of the treatments. We were bed and breakfast but had an evening meal in the buffet restaurant and then ended up going all inclusive for 4 days the food is lovely huge variety and even the fussy eaters should find something there I have been back 2 days and already looking to go next Jan. Weather was great not to hot but comfortable to sit out in. The sun does go in by 430 so great for early birds."
