"returned 19 feb spent a week here after nile cruise which was great but tiring . This was just what we needed very peaceful food good and snorkling fantastic the pool at the grand was heated ,apparently the palace pool was freezing only saw one person in the whole week but the 2 hotels join together so people used the grand pool the palace was very quiet i think a lot of people had changed due to building work, we had and thought we had made the right decision you could hear work close to the palace but not at grand, the hotel theyre building should be great when its finished.Anyone wanting a quiet break with lots of food will love this hotel."

Just Found Heaven
"This place is perfect as a relaxing get away break, the whole place is opulent in the extreme. We never had to ask for a drink as the waiters seem to know just when to restock empty glasses. We found all the staff exceptionally friendly and willing to serve even to the point of laying out you towels, Supplied by the hotel, onto your sunbed. The snorkling in the red sea was phenomenal, and would suggest going out as far as you can walk then snorkling in the deeper water, like a different world!
Only there for a week but managed to try out the thai resturant, my favourite, the Mediterranean and Caribbean resturants which all served exceptional quality food.
Named drinks are not included and are very expensive, so would suggest bringing your favourate tipple with you. The entertainment was basically miming to musicals, but the staff put a lot of effort into each production and should be appreciated, although I would suggest that seen one seen all!
Would point out Susan, from Austria, of the entertainments team as a lovely young lady who got told off on nummerous occations for talking to us to long, she was trying to improve her English and loved meet the English as she had been told we were unfriendly, so hunt her out and say Hi"

"Just got back from Makadi Palace. A beautiful hotel, the service from all staff is superb. They were always there but not in your face. The food in all restaurants was excellent, the quantity and quality is first rate. No one i met on this fourteen night holiday had any tummy problems!! But take plenty of imodium just in case.
Pool isn't heated and believe me it's cold. But you can go to the pool next door which is heated and very lovely it is too.
We had a great time and will go back again. Not much going on for teenage children, so unless they make a friend they could be bored.
Take plenty of dollars(small denomination) for tips, and of course Egyptian pounds. The trip to Luxor is a long day but worth it.
Go to the beach turn right and just keep on walking and you will come to a place that does camel and horse riding into the desert. Brilliant!!
We loved this holiday and the climate in February is just right"

"My boyfriend and I just returned from a week's stay at Makadi Palace and from start to finish we were stunned at this beautiful hotel and the service.
When we arrived and were checking in, drinks were served as a welcome (a great touch after the coach journey). The hotel really does look just like the pictures advertised on websites.
We had a Junior Suite and would recommend this as it was very beautiful and large.
All of the hotel was very well maintained and staff made sure we wanted for nothing.
Before the holiday was over we were already discussing when to go back!
The Thai restaurant is especially fantastic as we ate there three times in the week! All restaurants at both the Grand and Palace serve excellent food.
The pools were too cold to swim in, but the Grand pool was much warmer.
Overall we could not fault this hotel and cannot wait to go back. Definitely gets a 10/10 from us!

Loved the Palace - ready for more
"We stayed at the Makadi Palace in February 2006 and are returning to Egypt for an extended tour based on our experience - in fact, we have recommended the hotel to so many friends that we are considering asking the hotel for compensation!
Here's a quick rundown:
Room - large and well decorated. We were on the 4th floor so we had a wonderful open-roofed terrace that looked out over the enormous pool and lovely architecture. The decor was a little dated in style, but was not old, this was mainly an interior design choice. Two double beds, a sofa and cocktail table, a desk and very nice wooden outdoor furniture. Be sure to ask for a room with top floor balcony -we saw people who were on the ground floor and thought they were a little exposed...
Grounds - the pools are amazing! Huge and winding in many interesting ways. Little bridges to cross and wonderful groundskeeping. Not a single mosquito in sight, and incredibly floral to a Northern European in February. It is such a huge place that we were a little lost in the first few days, but it was a pleasure to discover all the hidden walkways and perhaps a restaurant or bar that we hadn't seen before.
Red Sea - The beach seemed like it was made of builder's sand, but on closer examination may have been rough coral. Definately buy beach shoes (available on the beach, as well as fins and other snorkeling gear) for walking on the beach and into the sea. The water in February was very warm (more than the pools) and there was always enough beach chairs and palm stands for shade.
Restaurants - We had 9 restaurants to choose from - avoid the buffets like "The Dome" except at breakfast, when they are at their best. The Thai and the Italian were the great - but with all the drinks in the all-inclusive we may not have noticed. The food was excellent - from the hamburgers by the pool to the rather formal Thai meals, but all were enjoyed without any "tummy issues."
Entertainment - The "motivators" put on rather sad shows, but the piano bar was nice enough to make us forget the bad musical theater. Better to skip the shows altogether and visit the piano bar and then make your own entertainment...
All in all, a wonderful place to rest - do not go if you expect/want excitement or entertainment - this is a place to rejuvenate in the sun.

Certainly a Palace!
"Just got back from Makadi Palace and had a brilliant relaxing holiday after a hectic xmas at home it was just what we needed. Went with my fiance and son, 11 year old.
Weather was nice every day and service, grounds, food and everything could not be faulted. Tai resturant was excellent and booked to go there twice. Also Itallian and carabean were good at the Grand. Dome resturant was nice which was the main buffet but food was always good and varied. Sunset beach resturant was good and opened about 3pm serving burgers and hotdogs etc.
Staff were really good with my son and while we were sun bathing they spent a lot of time chatting to him and having a laugh. Cus it was quiet my son took his skateboard and was skating around the grounds of the hotel for a couple of hours a day (would not be able to do this during a busier period though) Palace was much better than Grand in my opinion, although Grand seemed good there was more attention to detail at the Palace. Staff knew what drinks you liked and bought them too you fast. Have never had such good service.
Entertainment at the Grand was outside but ours were in the jokers bar which was really nice although entertainment did start too late. We also had a piano bar which had entertainment too. Sea was better as others had stated in previous reviews if you walked to the right of the hotel, passed the building work and there it was much easier to get into the water and the beach was nicer. Hotel pool at the Grand was supposed to be heated but went in twice and it was still too cold for us. We were really cheeky and walked towards the main resort to the Sunrise Makadi which was a good 15 mins walk along the beach and went in their pool, Which was lovely and walm. No one said anything but whether we were just lucky I don't know!
After looking at other hotels in the resort although Grand and Palace may not have the best location in resort they definately are the best hotels. Have been to Egypt before but not had as good a hotel as this and would definately go back in the future."

"If you are going to Egypt and the Red Sea area do not hesitate to book a week or two at the Makadi Palace! We spent our first Christmas ever out of Norway and had a fantastic time at this hotel. Everything turned out to be excellent, the food, service and atmosphere. We were two adults and two children and although the big pool was too cold to swim in now the children did not complain. We just went over to the heated pool at the Grand Makadi Hotel for swimming. The Red Sea was warm enough but a bit difficult for children due to rocks e.t.c. We visited Hurghada and saw some awful hotels on the way...So beware! If you are going to Egypt go to a top hotel, otherwise you may get stomach problems and be overall disappointed. Choose the Makadi Palace, it was worth the money!"

Can't wait to go back to Makadi Palace
"I based my holiday booking on reports posted on this site, after all there is nothing better than other peoples comments to give you a true picture not a sales mans pitch.
I took my daughter aged 27 and her friend aged 26 came along.
The flight was on time, and we arrived in the early evening. We were very impressed as the coach approached the hotel which was lit up with many lights along the palm tree lined drive.
After booking in and getting our AI armbands, we were taken to our Junior Suite, tips are expected, £1 coins are welcome if you dont have currency.
We went straight to the balcony, and saw the most wonderful site, it was exactly as we expected from photos we had seen, we had a map and information about the complex in the room, which we found very helpful.
We found the food to be excellent, especially the Thai restaurant.
One night we tried the Italian in the Grand Makadi next door, but the girls prefered the Dome and Malange in our hotel.
All the staff were very helpful, of course we tipped well, nothing else to spend our money on anyway, as All inclusive is just that in this hotel, we wanted for nothing....
We did have to get up early 6.30am for sunbeds on the beach, as the Germans had a habit of putting towels on them and not turn up till the afternoon, but there were plenty free around the pool.
Only the brave went in the hotel pool, it was freezing, shame really because it was beautiful to look at, I suppose in the summer months it would be well used, for us the sea was much warmer, but you had to be careful because of the coral, we bought shoes on the beach for approx £5 per pair.
We went to the Grand for early entertainment about 21.00hrs then to Jokers Bar in the Palace till late. The Animation team were very friendly, mostly from Italy, but spoke English very well.
They got everyone up dancing.
If you want to take home presents, I recommend you wait till you are going home as in the airport there are many shops after luggage check in and goods are marked with price tickets.
We sat on the beach on the last day, and wished we had booked two weeks, my daughter got home and went online to get the prices for next year...its not often we want to go back to the same place, but this one is a must."

very relaxed hotel
"we have just returned from a weeks holiday at makadi palace everything about this hotel brilliant we were a bit worried as we had read some scary reviews after booking it three weeks before we went.food was great in all a la carte restuarants you can still use facilities in makadi grand next door but they cant use ours.pool area very clean pool waitors were good for couple of pound tip you didnt have to move all day to get a drink.Rooms were comfy cleaned every day clean towels provided for pool or beach every night Animation was a bit dodgy but plenty of other places to relax if not like us not your cup of tea.Hotel child friendly but didnt see many kids as was term time.Would recommend the cocktail party on wed evening but book it early as limited number of places.Hotel and gardens very impressive and were always being tendered to.I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a week in thesun think two weeks could be hard going as any all inclusive holiday but as five star Eygptian hotels go this is deffinatly one of the better ones."

"Just returned from a fantastic week at The Makadi Palace.
Here's the run down from start to finish. Booked our holiday through Direct Holidays and we were supposed to be flying with MyTravel on Friday @ 9.30am. At Glasgow we boarded a Futura flight with NO entertainment for the 5hr 50mins flight. Plane was on time and food on plane was sufficient, staff on flight were pleasant enough. Once arrived in Egypt, Makadi Palace is last bus stop dropping off other holidaymakers, so sitting for another 1 hour in the bus not welcomed. Entrance into Palace is breathtaking considering it's in the middle of nowhere. You then get your yellow all inclusive band. Bellboy takes your bags to your room which is exactly like the brochure, very nice, and he expects a tip, considering we've just arrived £1 coin suffices.
Next day is the welcome meeting with rep at 12 noon in Jokers Bar. Very informative but took too long to discuss things and if you wanted to book trips you had to go and see her again the next day between 11am & 12 noon. Another day taken up. We did trips to Cairo & Luxor as we were only there for 1 week. Pretty expensive with the rep but we did'nt see any other excusion operators around. Cairo trip left at 1am on Monday morning, travelling through the night, 9 hour bus journey, buses travel in convoy with police escort. Absolutley safe. I thought it was worth it, but it depends how interested you are in pyramids & museums. You could fly but it cost £185 sterling each. Luxor on Wednesday was 6 hour bus journey, leaving at 5.30am again in convoy with lunch on River Nile and boat trip across it. Beware - Valley of the Kings really really hot. The Palace run's a free bus into Hurghada 4 times each day, you had to book in advance, worth it to buy some pressies but be ready to run the haggling gauntlet. You'll know what I mean!. The Palace resturants were great, no complaints, you could dine in Grand Makadi resturants also as Palace is 5 Star. Guests in 4 star Grand Makadi not best pleased we could use their facilities and they could not use ours. They should have checked that out before they booked the cheaper Grand Makadi package. No stomach probs but we did speak to a few people who did. Just watch what you eat and drink. We did and were fine. Our favourite was Thai Garden, never did work out how the chef managed to carve a carrot into a rose. Nice touches.. Jokers bar is ok for a few nights entertainment. We always tipped 10 or 20 egyptian pounds (£1-£2 sterling) every other drink and you got service with a smile all night. Take lots of small egyptian notes if you can. The resort itself is beautiful and very relaxing. Very clean, the staff go into clean the toilets as soon as you come out. Snorkelling is amazing but watch the coral, very sharp. Staff very pleasant and always said Good Morning to you. Our Futura flight home was delayed 30 mins at the airport but it was ok, we had inflight entertainment this time. Ice Age 2 film. - We hope to be returning in a couple of years with our 2 boys who are 14 just for the snorkelling. Would definitely recomend the Makadi Palace and we had a marvelous time."

"What a wonderful holiday we have had. The staff were excellent in every way. The variety of food and different restaurants on site available would suit all tastes. Our Junior Suite might have been a little' fading glory' but it was very comfortable, immaculately clean, extensive with a superb view over the complex and out to sea. Sun beds and parasols numerous and comfortable set in glorious surroundings. The architecture of the whole complex was amazing and dazzling when lit up in the evening. Only drawback to us was the number of smokers polluting the outside bars and tables at meals bit I suspect that would be the same problem with these anti-social people anywhere."

First disappointing holiday ever
"We had great expectations for this special holiday over Christmas & New Year combining hotel stay with Nile cruise. Reviews looked good but I'm afraid the reality was not quite what it should have been. The hotel seemed quite full and our first 3 days our room was very average needing a refurbish and the. Bath was badly scuffed. When I decided to have a bath it was obviously much more than that as 2 maintenance men quickly appeared so we assume our bath leaked in to the room below . Our our return our room was even poorer! The handrail over the bath was not fixed and when I ra n a bath prices if rusty metal dropped in to it. Not a new problem as tiles were discolored. The wardrobe door fell off and I would say my hairdrier was unsafe it only worked intermittently and was held together with insulating tape Towels were very grubby looking and could do with being replaced. More bath problems this time the bath water came back up through a vent on the floor. Food was very poor , chicken and beef which was always tough no mater how it was cooked . New Years eve was a joke and New Years day none existent and we are left wondering what we actually paid for!!"
