"three words to desribe this hotel WOW WOW WOW..that was first thing i said on walking into our room..we have just returned from wk ere and each day i still couldnt get over how beautiful it was. the staff are amazing and cart do enough for you loved the pool bar with mohammed who would make me cocktails and even made irish coffee once he knew my hubby was from ireland. the room was beautiful and the view was amazing we had pool view also sea view loved taking last drink up to room watching world go by. i am a very fussy eater but found food was plentiful even for someone like me freshly cooked eggs for breakfast . freshly baked pizza at the italian. the room was cleaned every day with fresh towels nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff from the gardeners to bar staff pool guys towel guys cooks waiters we really couldnt say anything bad about this place.. been back 12 hours now and we are already looking to book again. "

"We have just spent a week in this Hotel after a week on the Nile. It is a lovely hotel well kept and immaculately clean. Food is good but got fed up of the buffet after a while, tried both of the restaurants the Italian is the best the Indian is middle of the road. Entertainment everynight was not bad. Didn't try the night club as a bit too old for that but was told it was good. Beach not very sandy and can get quite breezy but wind breaks will stop this (you can move them around as well which we didn't realise!)when the tide is out you will need the beach shoes to walk out into the sea or go along the pier and get in at the end. Great for snorkelling. Went on a two hour horse ride in the evening which was lovely, well worth the money. Also had a massage which was much needed after the riding!! Not much to do around the hotel as Hurghada 35klms away, but Hurghada not that nice anyway. If you go with Flash tours don't bother with the Hurghada by night trip, waste of money. Just book on the shuttle bus and do your own thing. Would recommend this hotel for anybody wanting a relaxing break with plenty of sunshine. "

"I cannot fault this hotel complex at all, the staff cannot do enough for you, the rooms were the cleanest I have ever stayed in to date. There was plenty of well cooked and varied dishes on offer in the resaurant at all meal times. I can't wait to go back again next year!! I have no photo's to add to my comments as yet but intend to add in the future."

"The hotel was fabulous, food was exceptional bearing in mind that they are catering for many different nationalities and religions, service i couldn't fault, very attentive and always polite. We stayed for two weeks and by the end we still wanted more. The lunches at the beach bar were perfectecly fine, light and simple snacks, our only reservation was with the water activity team, the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing so if you need to book a trip with them make sure you get all the relevant information first. WELL DONE STELLA MAKADI>"

WELL APPOINTED, WARM SERVICE AND HOW TO SURVIVE
"Good hotel with a child friendly beach with a jetty so that you can walk out to the coral reef - Brilliant. Pools are close by to the rooms and have good services. Rooms are spacious and well kitted out with good staff who turn the towels into Works of Art. All the staff are there to help and are pleasent to a fault. Definitely a place to have a good rest. Food looks appealing. We were the advance guard of Thomas Cook's spearhead into this hotel. 98% of the other guests were German. SURVIVAL 1. Food tasted BLAND, as per the seminal sitcom 'Goodness Gracious Me' Restaurant Episode. Use the beach bar for lunch. Take two raw eggs from Breakfast and they will fry them at the beach. Egg and chips is going to be as tasty as it gets. 2. All inclucive is a minefield. a. Bottled water free only at the main bar. b. Stock up the fridge in your room with bottled water, if the staff put it in you will be charged. c. Ice Cream served only on the beach 15.30 to 17.00m - don't worry it is Nestle. d. All inclusive stops dead on 23.00. 3. Keep your pool towel overnight and use it to book your sun bed at 07.00. When you arrive at the pool later on, swap it in for a fresh one. 4. There is an Italian and Indian Restaurant on the complex at 20e per head - DONT. Book a good restaurant in Blighty for the day you get back. 5. Bring your own shower gel. 6. When paying for Extra's at the end of your stay, pay in Egyptian Pounds, if you have any of these left over. Insist for change in GBP, they will offer Euros, as they commented, they do not have locals using the hotel enabling them to give you change in Egyptian Pounds. Credit card payments are vert expensive - exchange rate and service fee. The survival bit over. Take a NON hotel arranged taxi from outside the security gate in front of the hotel(Hotel one's cost an arm and a leg)), to Bur Safaga about 20 clicks south to see the REAL Egypt. Late afternoon/evenings are the best time. Food tasty, if you forget the surroundings. Locals are Great and welcoming. Fruit and Veg fantastic. Local plain cloths constabulary do take an intrest, but just look and listen: which is reassuring. Clark from Kent"

"This hotel well deserves its 5 stars. The place was clean and very spacious. The staff went out of their way to be efficient, friendly, helpful etc. Rooms were lovely, clean sheets and towels everyday. The entertainment was good, especially the Whirling Dervishes, they were amazing. The food is all buffet style, and is served in all different places over the hotel. The choice is good, but not if you are a fussy veggie. The Animation team were brill too, how they found the energy to work approx 16hrs a day and still be smiling is beyond me. The Stella has only just been discovered by the Brits, but they love us there and the staff are always chatting just so they can improve their English. The Sea is gorgeous, extra safe for children, also the hotel has a jetty and at the end you can see the coral and beautiful fish. Diving in the Red Sea is supposed to be one of the best places on earth. There are lots of different excursions which are well worth the money. The hotel runs a shuttle bus and limosuine service into Makadi Centre or Hurghada. Hurghada is better for banks,shopping etc."

"We didn't book this hotel, we were moved here after booking Serenity Heights which was disgusting. But this hotel saved our holiday from being totally ruined! The hotel is new. Thomas Cook have only just started selling it and it is not yet in the brochures. The rooms are quite small but very nice and cleaned perfectly everyday. The pools and gardens are immaculate. The staff are very friendly but most food and drink is self service. The beach is nice but access to the sea is via a long jetty because of the coral reef. Food is good, not excellent but the usual egyptian standard."

Excellent service, cleanliness and superb food, difficult to find fault.
"This is a large hotel with 600 rooms and 1300 guests when full but at no time does it seem unduly crowded. The majority of guests are from Russia, Germany, France or Italy with only about 70 Brits during our stay. Excellent service and friendliness is provided by all the staff at this hotel from Front Desk, waiters, chefs & catering staff, bar staff and room boys, most of whom speak reasonably good english. The buffet style dining works well in spite of the large number of guests and food platters are continually replenished even for late-comers. There was a good selection of food appealling to a Mediterranean palate, vegetarians and meat-eaters. There were char-grilled meats, roasts, fish a good selection of cooked vegetables and an Egyptian selection of food every day. We thought the food was fanstastic and didn't tire of it once during our 14 day stay. A minor complaint was that there was a limited selection of fresh fruit to our liking. For those preferring a change there was an Italian and Indian restaurant on site. Our only complaint about this hotel is the noise from 'entertainment' at various times during the day and evening from which it is difficult to escape. If you just prefer to lie undisturbed on a sun lounger or balcony and read a book in peace and quiet then you may be disappointed. We did the PADI Open Water dive course at the Orca Dive Centre at the hotel. The Orca Dive team, a mix of Germans, Dutch, Swiss, Egyptian and Hungarian, are a great bunch of guys; very professional, helpful, encouraging and good humoured. They provide course material and instruction in english. Instruction takes place in their air conditioned classroom, the pool and in open water at the end of the 380 meter long pier and from their Zodiac boat. The house reef is easily accessible at the end of the pier but experienced snorkellers may find it very disappointing compared to reefs in the Indian Ocean and Carribean. However, you invariably see something new every time. Should you want to play tennis there is a clay surface court with floodlights and it is possible to hire equipment. Although it is very hot during the day it becomes quite pleasant to play tennis during the early evening when the temperatures fall to the lower 30s! You become used to the heat, every day it gets easier so don't give up. We argued that the 10 euros per hour charge was totally unreasonable and settled for 5 euros per hour for the court including lighting. They don't seem too fussed if you run 10 or so minutes beyond the hour to finish the set! There is an air-conditioned gym with some resistance equipment and a jogger, cross-trainer and exercise bike. It's quite adequate but not so well equiped as your local leisure centre or sports complex at home. There is no facility at the hotel for changing money but you can walk along the beach to another hotel at 'Makadi City' where there is a bank and ATM. You get a better exchange rate than at Travelex Exchange in UK airports. There are several other hotels near to Stella Makadi but there's nothing else! You can catch a shuttle bus or taxi into Hurghada (35 minutes) which has other hotels and restaurants."

Excellent staff and amenities . . .generally excellent
"Just got back from a week at the Stella Makadi, its was an enjoyable and relaxing break. This is my 4th trip to Egypt. I will start with the positives as they far out weigh the negatives. . . From the moment you arrive the staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble and this is the same in all areas of the hotel and their is no expectation to be tipped (however a very small tip of even 50p can improve the already exceptional service). There is a large selection of swimming pools all of which are really nice and clean the 2 main pools have swim up bars then their is a additional beach bar/cafe area. 1 pool area is very busy with loads going on (aqua-fit, water polo etc) and the other area is quieter but with all the same amenities. There are plenty of sunbeds around the pools and although the hotel is busy getting a sunbed is never an issue. The hotel rooms are of a nice size and all have a balcony or terrace. They are cleaned daily and spacious and well presented. The room we had had a shower but no bath. They have air con, fridge and international TV channels (at least 6 english channels including news and movies). I can also reccomend the dive centre at the hotel 'Orca Dive Club' - i dived 3 times while their both from the shore and a couple of boat dives. The team and there service/equipment are excellent and staff very helpful. There is also a water sports centre that does windsufing, kite surfing, water skiing, parasailing etc as well as places for horse riding and quadbiking on the beach. There was varied evening entertainment which in the main part was good and enjoyable. Each evening generally consisted of 5 shows (kids disco, singer/musician, dancers/acrobats, annimation team show, singer) then for those who like a late night the entertainment moves to the nightclub at 11pm. There was also a shisha (water pipe) cafe in the main ampi theater area and one on the beach. The bars and restaurants all have excellent service and are all very well presented. The 2 a la cart restaurants (Indian/itallian) are excellent. They do cost extra but are well worth it and very cheap. It cost approx Â£25 for 2 of us to have a excellent 5 course meal including alcoholic drinks and coffees. Now to the negatives . . . The main buffet is very repetative for lunch and dinner and the food a little bland and very continental European. It was ok for a week but i think if you were going for 2 weeks it may be a problem. I think its important to point out that the hotel has only been taking British guests for 6 weeks so i would expect that the food will improve and become more inclusive of British tastes as time goes on. There isnt anywhere to go outside the hotel without going all the way back to Hurgahda. (but there is a shuttle bus and there are several on site shops including a pharmacy and supermarket) The on site shops were very cheap and had a wide variety of stuff. The viability in the sea is very poor after lunch time (about 1 meter) and makes snorkeling a real problem. - - - - - - - All in all this was a good holiday, very relaxing i would reccomend the hotel i would just say think about what your going to do about food if it gets bland and repetative. So long as you can over come that hurdle you will have a great time."

"Stayed for a week All Inclusive at the Stella Makadi at the end of September. Absolutely great hotel, have only knocked one blob off for location as it is in an area where there are just hotels, but if you want a week by the pool or diving it's just perfect. Travelled with Thomas Cook who have only started visiting the hotel in the last 6 weeks, this was fairly evident by the relative lack of Brits staying (mostly German, Russian & Italian guests). Personally I didn't have a problem with this as I don't go abroad to spend time with my fellow countrymen! The hotel appears to be quite new and although there is still building work being carried out within the hotel complex this was not in any way intrusive and from what I could see does not extend to the hotel complex itself. I had booked a standard room but discovered on arrival I had been upgraded to a suite. The rooms were large and comfortably furnished and very clean. Service from all the hotel staff was exceptional. The food was very good and varied, although as with all buffet style all-inclusive menus does feel a little repetative after a week. Menus were quite european focussed, and as a slightly fussy vegetarian there was always something I could eat. The hotel facilities were very good with a number of pools, including a "quiet" pool, away from the animation team, pool bars, nice beach with long jetty out over the reef. The sea is very shallow for a long way out so safe for small children. Reef shoes are a must if you want to spend time on the beach/in the sea. The animation team provided the usual sports - aerobics, beach volleyball, water polo, aqua aerobics, darts, boules etc etc but didn't hassle you to take part if you didn't want to. There were a number of people in the hotel offering quad bike safaris, spa treatments, submarine trips etc who would come & talk to you but they didn't hassle you too much. A full water sports programme was available from the Hotel team as well. Because of the hig number of guests from mainland Europe, prices for non-inclusive items were usually displayed in Euros rather than Egyptian Pounds and the hotel also accepted Euros. I had taken Egyptian Pounds with me but if the excahnge rate was favourable would probably take Euros next time. Also on site were a pharmacy, a number of souvenir type shops - although many also sold, reef shoes, snorkelling equipment, inflatables, clothes, snacks etc a Disco and an Italian and an Indian restaurant. The two restaurants were not included in our AI package but I believe the hotel offers different levels. The hotel is about a 35-40 minute drive south of Hurghada and pretty much in the middle of nowhere whith other resort style hotles dotted nearby. The prime purpose of my holiday was to relax by the pool so this was perfect for me. I did venture out once for a boat trip from Soma Bay (half an hour south) and a day trip to Luxor (about 3.5 hours drive away). Hughada and Makadi Bay are both fairly recently established and largely revolve around the tourist industry. As with anywhere in Africa you will get hassled to buy stuff when you're out & about but I didn't find it any worse than other countries I'd visited and a form no thank you in english or arabic and a lack of interest in what they have usually does the trick. I thoroughly enjoyed my week at the Stella Makadi, the weather was excellent (if a little windy at times), the hotel was fantastic and the service superb. I wouldn't hesiate to go back again."

excellent service, nice hotel but lots of russians and germans
"i booked with thomas crook and met the rep at the hotel who did say that english people had only just started going to this hotel for the past 5 weeks, that is reason for so much russian and german people however this was not a problem. my wife and i stayed here for 7 nights for our anniversary and we were quite suprised at hows good the service was, these people cannot do enough for you, especially when they found out that we were english. we were getting platters of food and drink sent to our room almost daily. the head chefs would come and meet us at our table at dinner just to make sure we were ok, this happened everynight. the waiters and bartenders would come and bring you your drinks before the last one had finished. i really cannot fault the service we recieved from any staff that work in the hotel. our room had a great view of the pool and the beach and was cleaned daily with all the fancy towel artwork. the food was great but could be seen as a little repetitive and mostly local food which my wife and i enjoyed but dont go there expecting to find fish and chips on the menu!!!! all in all a great holiday and we are planning to go back next year!"
