5 starr hotel 2/3 star service
"My husbund and I have just arrived having stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks.The hotel is beautifull,the view is fantastic.
We were very disappointed with the beach as it's very hard to actually get into the sea.
The service was very bad, it seemed to me that because the hotel is only 6 months old they have employed any one of the streets and are getting rid of them as they do anything wrong.
The food wasn't great, same things for dinner as there was for lunch.
If you want entertainment don't go to this hotel as it was very poor.
Overall we wouldn't go back to this perticullar hotel agaiin."

"The review by "hurghadasgreat" dated 09.05.07 is, in my opinion, pretty well spot on. I would suggest however that the restuarant and food facilities are probably less adequate and the food is less good. Quite a few English people were heard complaining and my wife who had stayed previously at the Makadi Star was very disappointed. If we go back to Hurghada it will be to the Makadi Star. I'm very suspicious about the more effusive reports!"

fantastic holiday shame about the food
"My boyfreind and myself went to stay at carols on 13th Aril for 14 nights.It was my first holiday abroad and I had high hopes of a wonderful time.The hotel is gorgous yes I would agree some of the workmanship is not the best but the hotel is beautiful,very very clean.The staff cant be faulted they are so freindly and cant do enough for you.The english are in a huge minority,nearly all guests are german or russian and so so rude (manners definatley missing there).I also have to agree you do get hassled a lot whilst round the pools and not just on the 1st day either,but a kind no thanks is enough to send them on their way.We met a lovely man called said (syeed) who booked our sea trips who was very nice.Our rep was RUBBISH totally uselesss,never avaliable either in person or by telephone.The food on the other hand was awful,absolutly awful.Got to the stage where we couldnt even face going to the restaurant to see what mush (our term for our 5* offerings)was avaliable.Of our 14 night stay paid for evening meal 4 7,even went into town twice for Macdonalds (hardly 5* cusine).Food was a major issue for every english person we spoke to.Also hate to say it but we all had upset tummies,most of use off and on for whole two weeks.Hurghada is a building site!!!!!! really nothing pretty about it, and 45 mins away.Carols really is in the middle of nowhere and if you want a hotel where you can go for a wander of an evening etc this definatley isnt the hotel for you.This may sound like we had an awful holiday which isnt the case at all,our room was lovely (take a tip from us take your card of your key and leave it in the slot whilst out, that way air con stays on heaven!!!!).Grounds beautiful.Pools FREEZING!!! but very pretty,staff lovely.Drinks plenty of choice,some lovley trips Aqua marine snorkelling to Giftun Island is a must (we were lucky enough to see dolphins on the way back which was the high light of my holiday),dessert safari worth doing.Fishing trip ok but only use crab lines so disappointing for my partner,but food really really bad.Spoke to guest relations who said had 400 complaints in a month (hope they listen).Wouldnt go back but had a great time and lots of happy memories.Have to say hello to all the lovely people we met in our 2 weeks especially Karen,Julian and family.Carol and Peter and Bob and Chris,was great spending our holiday with you allxxx"

You get what you pay for!
"Booked through Teletext after reading all the reviews on here. The hotel is NOT 5 * but is an ok 3*+.. The rooms and fixtures and fittings in the hotel are what saves it. We booked for 14 nights for a cheap (Â£450) all inclusive relaxing break, and that is what we got! The choice of food was pretty bad but when there was something that we fancied, the standard was good. Don't book any trips with the reps - We went on the boat trip twice but booked through the aqua centre on the beach, and saved Â£40 and had a great time. Take playing cards and plenty of books as the entertainment really is awful. Never had a problem with Russians before but they were so noisy and rude en masse that we used to move several times during the day to get some peace. All in all we had a good time, and felt we had value for money but would be in no rush to go back."

Great staff, shame about the building
"Don't intend to waste your time with trivia
Just returned from this hotel,
Our room bigger than the one at the Albatros Beach (Dec '06 Holiday), smaller than the Alladin (March '06)
Gardens and pools great,
90% of staff, were exceptional, other 10% let them down, watch out for the barman from the Lebanon, normally works in the pool bar during the day. fine, but if you don't tip him personally, he gets very tempremental. (tips are supposed to be shared) he would argue, close the bar early, refuse to serve you, etc....
the communal areas of the hotel are not big enough for the number of guests.
When we arrivedd, the only choice of bar was one which turned into a disco at 11p.m.there was no quiet bar, where you could have a chat, consequently we ended up sitting in the bottom level of the foyer, most evenings after the entertainment on the terrace had finished.
Trek to the toilets from the bar involved 2 flights of stairs total of about 30 steps and a long walk down a corridor
Restaurant not big enough for the number of guests, so an area of foyer and the oriental restaurant had been taken over to accomodate, not ideal.
Ate at the fish restaurant one night, what a joke, after the waiter had tried to persuade us to eat at 7p.m. when we tried to book, we arrived at 8.30 and no one else was in the place,
I drink red wine but was persuaded to have white as it goes with fish. The wine and beer) had been brought from another bar in refilled water bottles and was off. when I asked for red, I had to wait untill it was brought again from another bar.
The only food available during the day except for the restaurant was at the pool bar, 1.00p.m. to 5p.m.so anyone sunbathing on the beach had quite a trek, UPHILL,
Ice creams and fresh popcorn were available, advertised to 5p.m. but they usually served them till the bar closed.
The pool bar closed in the afternoon at various times between 5 and 6p.m,then during the second week they decided to reopen it at 8.p.m. till midnight it had to close we were told so that it could bed cleaned in time to open again at 8p.m. , this despite the fact that the only other bar was indoors, so people coming off the beach were not disposed to go and sit inside for a drink in their swimming/sunbathing gear.
There was a small kids club and one set of childrens activity equipment (on the beach) and the normal childrens disco, but that was it for children
Animation team was totally inefectual, didn't come round and let you know what was happening, unless you went and found them first, 3 bought in shows per week and 'singer' but no enthusiasm or energy. probaly the worst animation team I have ever seen
I was quite excited to be going to a brand new hotel, but honestly, although the holiday was generally very good, the niggles and the extra time it takes to get here on the transfer, are not worth it.
Go to the Albatros Beach if you want good entertainment, for adults and children, and plenty of choice or go to the Alladin if you want to be quiet and relaxed"

A 5 Star joke!!!
"My wife and i returned from carols makadi bay on the 27th of april and not a moment to soon!!.This hotel claims to be 5 star which would be 4 star here in the uk according to the travel agents. It is no more than a poor 3 star it may have grand looks but take a close look and the finish is awful.The pools were dirty and the staff were cleaning them whils't guests were in the pool there was scum floating every where.There was also lose and broken tiles and debris in the bottom of the kids pool!.We were approached 4 times in 1 hour by staff selling services 5star??.The food was of poor quality and very little choice and the 1 main resturant could not cope with all the guests the other 2 al carte resturants were also a joke the food and service was on a par with a motorway rest stop.The other big issue was hygiene in the resturant we witnessed staff handling food on display with bare hands, cutting cheese and meat with the same slicing machine and cleaning of the plastic drinking glasses was just a dunking in cold tap water!!.This is the first time we have felt strongly enough to write such a review but its the truth this was our first and last time in egypt don't waste your money!!!!!"

go elsewhere if you really want 5 star
"having read the reviews before we travelled we got a shock. yes it does on the surface look 5 star - marble floors etc. look closer and the workmanship is very shoddy. the hotel is too large and does not have the staff to cope,1 person serving at the main pool bar. The food is awful except the bread - if on all inclusive (which by the way you do have to wear one of those wristbands!!!) I suggest you eat in the fish restaurant - unfortunately we only found out that it was open on our last night- but the food is excellent. we did eat in the italian twice - 1st time ok 2nd inedible - apparantly the manager had changed!!!!. The hotel is totally isolated. The hotel shops are a ripoff - my 13 year old son went and bought a ball. it was cheap made in china rubbish and they charged him 100 egyptian pounds (Â£10). The rooms are clean and a decent size but hope if you end up in one of the many blocks that you are fit! steps and slopes to get to the main hotel where the dining room is and the only bar to cater for 1200 people. The steps were unlit and we saw many people on crutches and with broken arms.
There was no information in the rooms ie. meal times etc not even a card with details regarding using the phone. they obviously didn't want you calling reception to complain and hoped you could not be bothered with the hike to reception. Forget about 5 stars that supply the little things like shampoo/body lotion in little cute bottles. At the carols makadi you get a commercial handwash system in your bathroom. To sum up dont go if you expect 5 star service and quality, go to the makadi star in madinat makadi where we went to last october instead. Go to the carols if you are used to 2/3 star in benidorm .
OH and yes you do get hasselled for the so called beauty treatments boat trips etc whilst you are trying to relax by the pool."

Great hotel...pity about the food
"My wife and I have just returned from a 14 night All Inclusive stay at this new (opened December 2006) 5 star hotel. Having read reviews on tripadvisor our expectations were high. In reality the hotel was very comfortable - large rooms and very well furnished with excellent beds. The landscaped gardens and the FIVE pools were excellent - so were the beach facilities...bvut the food!! Oh Dear!! Certainly nowhere near the quality expected of a 5 star hotel . The food was of poor quality, rarely hot, and nothing like so good as we had experienced at the 4 star Movenpick in TABA in February. Whether this was influenced in any way by the fact that the 545 bedrooms (or so) hotel was FULL - mainly with Russian visitors I do not know. What I do lknow is that all the English visitors I spoke to were equally dissapointed by the food and some were even willing to forego the second week of their stay if they could have got an earlier flight home - and that is SERIOUS. There were other problems which I am sure will be ironed out as the hotel finds its feet but the food quality needs serious attention OR when the Russian holiday season ends in Mid May (so I understand) the hotel will have to rely more on English, French, Germans etc etc and they may be harder to please!!!"

True 5* in Makadi Bay
"From start to finish this was an amazing holiday experience - this is my second time in Egypt (stayed in 5* in Taba before) and partners first time.
The complex was amazing - so much to do but just on site (6 swimming pools, tennis, beach, lots of activities) you couldn't wander into Makadi Bay or into the other resorts.
Weather was warm - a little windy but meant you could lie out all day long.
Food and Drink was brilliant - so much variety.
Few tips and negatives (only slight and I am being picky);
- Try the italian restaurant upstairs for a change - we paid Â£9 for a 3 course meal for 2. The pizza was lovely!
- Trip to Paradise island with Med Hotels was a waste of money for Â£45 and a really long day - for about Â£40 you can go out scuba diving and snorkelling with a guy called Sammy - If you go to the dive place at the bottom of the beach and ask for him - you'll have a fantastic trip.
- You get a little bit of hassle from reps trying to get you to do activities and staff trying to get you in shop, massage parlour etc - my tip is don't encourage - if you do you won't get rid of them all holiday!
- Not much to do in the Evening as the bar is a little cheesy - we ended up with drinks on the balcony and cards
All in all - A perfect relaxing holiday and I would return to Carols and Makadi Bay!"

Save yourself and just dont go!
"This as nearly Â£2,000 for a 2 week holiday for two. Looked wonderful on the internet and booked with Thomas Cooke. The first time we saw the rep she appeared drunk, the third day we were struck down with food poisoning my partner was on 2 drips and had to take 12 tablets per day for 4 days. The rep was nowhere to be found, the reception staff were awful and the doctor demanded Â£385 cash - which is hard to get when you are vomiting and have diaharea. This was an awful place. The only helpful person was the cleaner who regularly got shouted at by management. We felt very isolated and almost paid to come home. We lost money on trips and the rep could not be found to help. we had one week left but were quite weak so did not book anything else and were too scared to eat at the complex (there was nowhere elso to go) so we lived on bread, water and biscuits - l now weigh 7 stonne and am suffering from stomach problems. So please save yourself the trouble and dont go it is a poorly managed hotel which tries to take money at all times. Other people had been ill too."

Booked this hotel as a retirement celebr...
"Booked this hotel as a retirement celebration, hotel was beautiful, grounds were well maintained, pool areas were great, the let down for us was the room allocation, we were placed in a hotel room a half mile from this massive complex in building 5 close to the entrance to the grounds of the hotel which had 42 steps to our room and no balcony!!! we love to sit and chill out on the balcony of our hotel room when on holiday but no such luck here.
The hotel lobby reception is very impressive and we thought our room would have been in the hotel or at least inside the complex.
The staff are all superb, so friendly and always smiling,except for 1 or 2 but you will know them if you visit this hotel.
The hotel is now called Serenity Makadi Heights as it has a new owner who we met inside the hotel when he was sitting next to us and chatting about our holiday and our complaint about the room allocation. He sent fruit and drinks to our room as an apology
for our disapointment which was a nice gesture.
Make sure when you book this hotel that you have rooms inside the complex and not in the building we were in. Overall we had a nice holiday and hotel has a lot going for it in the future.
