Great Hotel

Reviewed 3rd November 2012

"It´s a great Hotel to stay, it's far away from Cairo city (1 hour with traffic), but it´s one of the best hotel that we saw in Cairo. This is a resort not a city hotel, but you can stay away from the confusion and the polution that we found at the central Cairo. If you want to visit Cairo, but you don´t like to stay in the middle of this big city, this is a good choice. Rooms are very good and clean. There are 2 mains swimming pools, and pools for children. The food is good, specially in the marroco's restaurant. The staff was very nice. I recommend you. The location it wasn't a problem because our guide took us to the city when we asked. Take a taxi, but remember you have always to discuss the price. Locals to visit: Gize Piramids Cairo Museum Nilo Death city Khalili (old market)"

Watch out for the doggy-doos!!

Reviewed 20th November 2012

"Movenpick really have to take a long hard look at what's going on in this hotel. I can only concur with the dog observations made by a previous reviewer. the problem is that money talks - and someone (a Gulf Prince?) is paying Movenpick a lot of money to keep him and his entourage of lackies, cronies and bodyguards in the comfort to which his riches would appear to entitle him. Therefore if you really like looking first-hand at dangerous dogs which in UK would need to be chained up and muzzled (Rottweilers, Pitbulls etc) then this is your chance. As for their droppings - they're everywhere and I don't think the 'minders' that accompany them would take to kindly to being asked to take a plastic bag with them when they went for a I said money talks. Otherwise, hotel only OK. Service OK. No indoor pool, but extensive outdoor ones (unheated). Reasonably clean, vast and in the midde of nowhere. Right next to 'Magic Land' an Egyptian fun park where foreigners stuck out like a sore thumb (but people friendly enough). My overall view is that, for the price, there will be much better hotels than this even in 6 October City, let alone the rest of Cairo, and Ithat this is certainly not a hotel for children. Movenpick's internal quality assurance sytem has seriously failed here."

dangerous dogs

Reviewed 21st November 2012

"I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. There are dogs kept on the complex that are walked at the pool area off of leads where children are playing. the dogs were allowed to foul the grass and it was left. The service is terrible and the food cold. this hotel is not up to movenpick standards."

Only the best at the Movenpick!

Reviewed 25th November 2012

"We stayed at the Movenpick for one night as part of a two-day tour of Cairo. Although our stay was short we couldn't help but compare our surroundings to those of those in our four-star hotel in Sharm-El-Sheik. As a consequence we couldn't help wishing out hotel was a little more like the Movenpick! Our room was great with a terrace over looking the pool. The double bed was huge, and extras like a bath, TV speakers in the bathroom, a bidet, a phone next to the toilet (!) and a safe in the room etc. left us really impressed. The lobby is amazing with three huge Chandeliers. The food is excellent and although it is a buffet there were choices like whole quail and veal liver, as well as cooked to order chicken, salads and fresh bread. Breakfast was just as nice. The staff were really attentative and all in all we really enjoyed our stay."

Pick the movenpick

Reviewed 3rd November 2012

"The hotel is a long way from the centre of Cairo, some 30km, and is isolated in the middle of a development area. A free shuttle-bus runs to the city-centre,via the pyramids, several times daily and this is very useful. If you miss the return, and I did, a cab ride back will be charged at about LE60 but give the man a hundred because it's worth it. Rooms are in blocks,'clusters', and are quiet and comfortable. Food is provided in the inevitable buffet and is about what you would expect. Staff are friendly and efficient, by Egyptian standards, and don't need tipping any more than is usual.Round the pools, freezing when I was there, there are ample sun-beds and towels are provided; the Health Suite is good with equipment which is not too worn. Drinks, at about LE20 for a beer are not too expensive and wine is LE100 for a bottle.( These are wine-list prices so you must add tax and service which total about 25%) The local soft red is quite nice but don't on any account order the white, it's undrinkable. A singer performs nightly in the lobby-bar and this is as far as the entertainment goes. Treat a stay here as a relief from the noise, crowds, and pollution of Cairo.I enjoyed it but I will stay nearer city-centre next time."
