The Best Budget Hotel in Aswan
"The Memnon hotel was not the newest hotel we stayed in but it was the best. The management are friendly and helpful. . They took the stress out of traveling and put the fun back into our vacation. The hotel dinning area was wonderful. The view from their rooftop is the best view on the nile. It looks like something from a movie. The room was tidy and clean and there was plenty of hot water. The Memnon may not be the biggest hotel but it is the best budget hotel."

not what we expected
"Based on glowing reviews we booked a one night stay at this hotel. We arrived after a gruelling 15 hour train ride from Cairo and shown room on third floor . Elevator was not working so did not check other rooms on 5th floor since we were exhausted. We assumed all rooms were equal. Our room was not very clean with pop bottle under bed and bathroom was very small with missing floor tiles, big open drain behind toilet with no cover,( think rats ), sink falling off wall and tiny shower. Only good thing was Nile view. I complained later after we returned from our tour and they showed us a much better room on 5th floor but at this point we were so tired we did not bother moving since we were going to Abu Simbel at 3am. I feel we probably had the worst room in hotel .Breakfast was awful with stale bun, one egg and butter"

Very good Budget Hotel
"This is a very good value budget hotel, clean rooms, we got a room on the third floor overlooking the nile, excellent view. Staff are helpful but be careful when booking tours with them as they are very lax about the timing of the tours so you end up hanging round for hours waiting and be careful that you know exactly what you are getting for the price.
Don't let the location of Memnon put you off, in a reasonably dirty alley but the location is so central for walking around Aswan and the bazaars. Would highly recommend it."

It was so relaxing!
"The 4 days we stayed at the Memnon hotel were really relaxing. It started with the pick up at the trainstation, no hassle with taxidrivers! The first night we had a room with great nile view!!! But because of the noise of the street (we had the windows open... don't like airco) we changed our rooms easily to the backside where it was quiet! During our breakfast we had the beautiful nile view!
The staff is very helpfull and friendly! They arranged some nice trips, a last minute nile cruise. And even a hotel in Luxor for a cheaper price.
The hotel is really clean, the swimmingpool on the roof is small, but nice to cool down and relax."

Excellent Budget Hotel - No frills, just the basics.
"We stayed here two nights before going on a Nile cruise.
The list is long for amenities that the hotel doesn't have : TV, phone, shower curtain, soap, shampoo, hairdryer, a refrigerator, and cleaning service between nights. However, this is a budget hotel, and I'm happy to go without all of the above, as long as we have the basics. The sheets were clean, the pillow was large and uncomfortable, the towel was tiny (maybe 12 in x 36 in?), but we had hot water and air conditioning, and that's all that really matters.
A minimal breakfast is even included - tea or coffee, bread basket, cheese, jam, and butter. You can purchase water or soda at the reception area at reasonable prices (I think 3 egyptian pounds for the water and the cans of soda) if you're still thirsty.
The entrance is not along the main street --it's located on a road parallel to the main street, accessible from a side street. The location is centrally located with a view of the Nile. Since it's on a busy street, it may be a little noisy for some.
The front desk staffers were friendly and helpful in answering questions. They organize a variety of tours, which seemed reasonably priced (they will probably give you a listing of tours upon check - in)."

Run by a True Hotelier! BEST BUDGET HOTEL
"This review will sound like I am exaggerating, but I am not. Please read on, as I also give some advice regarding a short stay in Aswan.
This is a budget hotel, but you should expect nothing but the best in service! We just returned from a 2 week trip through Egypt, and stayed in a wide range of hotels- from the extreme budget to the luxurious Mena House in Giza. Not only did the Memnon hotel provide better service than any where we stayed in Egypt, it provided the best service of any hotel I have ever stayed at!
The hotel is not spotless and the rooms are not fresh and new. The hotel does show its age., but Mohamed is the kind of person who will ask, "What can I do for you right now, at this very moment, to make your life even more amazing?" Mohamed is friendly and dependable. We put all our faith into him and he arrange a tour to the Abu Simbel, Philea, the High Dam, a two night cuise, valley of the kings, valley of the queens, the luxor, karnak, etc etc all within 4 days! and all without any notice, just right there on the spot. He even booked train tickets for us to cairo from luxor! Mohamed obviously enjoyes what he is doing, which makes a stay at his hotel all the more enjoyable. He is actually a Structural Engineer by trade, which shows in his professionalism, but he is in his element running this family hotel.
The location is great! Right next to the market.
The view is unreal!! We had drinks at the top of the Movenpick tower from which we can see everything, but we agreed that the view from our room at Memnon was much more picturesque.
We also had breakfast one morning at the Movenpick buffet which was a real treat that I would also recommend.
If you don't need 5 star accommodations in your room, I would recommend Memnon Hotel over anywhere else!!! Not only will you save some money, but Mohamed will make sure you trip goes off without a hitch. Plus, you make a wonderful new friend!"

Nice and Clean, good price, good location
"Having booked our stay at the Memnon, we are so glad we stayed here. 5 stars it is not however, it is very clean, well placed, with comfortable beds and air conditioning. The road noise was a little loud but fortunatly I had ear plugs and this was not a problem. Make sure you take in a sun set from the roof and make ure you take a few drinks up with you. You will be surprised by the little plunge pool which was great to sit in to take the summer heat from the skin out before bed. Back packer priced, 3 star quality and well worth the money, for what you pay, you could ask no more! Dont be put off by the entrance."
