Never again on costa!

"Our family has sailed on almost every cruise line. I found Costa to be the worst! They had the worst food! My daughter order meat on a skewer and got left over meat from the night before, breaded, with hot dog meat!
The buffets were not even remotely close in quality to Celebrity , Princess, Royal Caribbean etc. The "breakfast" had no eggs, oatmeal, pancakes, waffle etc. After 9 they took away the yogurt, cereal, and cottage cheese. Soooo cheap of them!
They charged a service fee of $10. Per day per person, which they admitted they don't give the servers or cabin Stewart's. They double charge for tips, on drinks.
They offer drink packages then don't let you order drinks ( other than wine) at dinner.
No drinks (alcoholic) at all at dinner! Then they charge for water at dinner and won't let you use drink package for that!
Entertainment also just fair.
No more Costa for us. 10 people all felt the same in our group!"

Room theft and cold food - Don't book Costa

"Although initially excited about our first Mediterranean cruise holiday with Costa our trip soon turned into a nightmare.
The first day we were told our door keys and suitcases will be deposited in the room and the room doors will be left open.
When we went down to our room our cases were there but only 1 key, but didn’t think anything of it. Later that night around 10pm we got a call and the person hung up when we answered it.
The next day I left my wallet out for a couple of hours while I went to dinner and when I returned our holiday money had been stolen.
When I reported this, the security staff went through our room, cases and all our personnel belongings, asking us for receipts for any purchases, my wife stood crying after our interrogation which lasted 2 hours due to their poor grasp of English.
After reviewing the door access logs we found someone had been sneaking into our room looking for something to steal each time we were out.
The Costa staff then said they would get back to us which they never did, when we chased them they just said they were looking into it, all the way up to the end of the holiday. They just couldn’t have cared less which makes me think this is a regular occurrence.
If we could have got a flight home from one of the ports mid holiday we would have.
When we got home we contacted Costa and got the same response, ‘looking into it’ then no reply.
On top of this breakfast had to be sent back every day as uncooked and every order to room was wrong due to poor English.
If your English don't even think about it, we found 3 other English people on board during our holiday.
The Italians on board were a rude and sour bunch at best.
There are plenty of cruise lines to choose from, don’t waste your money and precious holiday time on Costa you’ll regret it !!!

"The ship was very clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. However the stopover at some of the ports was disastrous. In Dubrovnik we were left queuing for once and a quarter hours to get back on board in the blazing sun (the woman in front of us fainted) with no drinks offered and no zoology. Same problem when we stopped in Split.
Also found the announcements too loud, too frequent and intrusive when we were relaxing on dec.k"

"We are two 70 year old English and traveled on Adriatic cruise with our two 16year old granddaughters ,we all had a fab time.ship very clean, food really good, staff all lovely, entertainment for all our tastes, ports of call were wonderful.our only criticism, although very extensive ,there was only cold buffet for breakfast,if you wanted eggs, omelettes etc .you had to go to main dining room.this was our third Costa cruise, having done 18 cruises in all with most of the major cruise lines.Costa offer excellent value for money, and yes there are lots of Italians,we have not found this a problem, and you are always seated with other English speaking guests for dinner.one of the cocktail waitresses even recognized us from previous cruise on the Pacifica and even remembered our drinks!"

"We cruised on this ship in December 2015. The ship itself was very clean and well maintained if somewhat flamboyant in the decor, still everyone's taste is different.
However if you are English speaking beware. The ship is overwhelmingly populated by Italians who, through having a different culture, we found extremely rude and very loud. The announcements on board were given in 4 languages, English being one of them, but so heavily accented that we could not understand them. The staff all seemed to struggle with English so getting anything sorted out was a problem.
Some of the information printed in the daily paper delivered to your cabin was incorrect resulting in us being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
We didn't book any excursions so we can't comment on them but any helpful information about ports of call such as local bus services, street maps or places of interest was sadly lacking.
If you want tea or coffee mid-day you would be out of luck as the machines were switched off, although of course you could pay at the bar.
We are both vegetarian but we found some dishes labelled vegetarian contained meat.
A daily charge of 9 euros per person is compulsory. You may agree with this but we preferred the money to go to the staff that helped us, i.e. our cabin cleaner and waiter at dinner. Additionally all drinks carry an additional 15% service charge, that is on top of the 9 euros per day. You even had to pay for water at meal times.
We found the staff very unfriendly, not helped by the lack of English being spoke.
So, we would not book with Costa again. We contrasted this cruise with one we took last year on the Norwegian Spirit which was amazing and so much better than our Costa experience."

"This was our first cruise on Costa. Before we left we read a lot of negative comments about Costa and we were kind of concerned. Our trip which was a back to back Eastern and Western Caribbean couldn't have been more fantastic.

The staff was excellent and accommodating, the dining room was gorgeous with excellent food, our stateroom was beautiful with super service by our room steward, the shows were fantastic, the Casino was lots of fun with very nice staff, the ship was super clean, the Cruise Director Stephano was hilarious.

I would highly recommend this ship. I might add even though we found everything perfect, there were still people complaining - we just can't understand it. It just goes to show you can't believe everything you hear or read.

We would definitely book another Costa Cruise and the price was excellent too.

"My wife and I had a great cruise. Went Caribbean islands for 7 days than stayed over in Kissimmee for 7 days.

Our only comment about the Costa was going through the different languages each time, but we got used to it. Also the entertainment could have been better but overall the price we paid was excellent and would do it again, at the same price maybe little more. Staff was excellent and the food was also good.

There was a little confusion about tipping at the end of the cruise, but basically you can refuse to have service charge added to your bill, you can actually tip your waiters and your favs yourselves."

"This was to the Caribbean on a 2 week back to back cruise.

The flight connections but by Costa on Air France are diabolical. Do not use them. We missed our connection and ended up with a 27 hour journey via 3 places due to Costa flight negligence with Air France. Air France are pretty useless not interested in helping anyone.

Ship is fantastic, entertainment first class. Food good but lacks in variety for 2 weeks. Outside buffet is pretty poor.

The beds are very poor, very uncomfortable but the cabins are spacious. Staff are second to none.

Embark and disembark are well organised but can be long lines to wait in. Fantastic beautiful ship however.

Do not use the jacuzzi if you have blonde hair, it turns it green! No compensation offered at all for this."

"Took a cruise with my daughter (16), mother and sister. Had Panoramic Suite. Fantastic cruise. Terrific ports. Rooms were generous size, bathroom was granite with a jac. Tub and shower. Staff could not have been better. Always there to help or just chat. Entertainment was pretty good.

Had heard the food was not that good and we found it to be excellent. Great variety and quality. The menu was huge. Not normally a mid night buffet lover but these were fun. One even in the spotless kitchen. Since it is an Italian line many Europeans about. We loved it. It felt like you were in Europe and not a floating American city visiting Europe. Could not have been better. They really treat every guest as a queen! Ship itself is like Vegas on water-very fun. Rooms are serene though. Slept with our door open every night listening to the waves.

Ports were great. Bari is a little town worth walking all over by yourself (no excursion needed as you can easily reach it walking from the port). Greece and Izmir (Olympia and Ephasus) we took the excursion and were glad since they are both a fair distance from the ports. Did not take one in Istanbul and were glad.

Easy to walk or take a cab from port to the old city. Just across one bridge that has ample walking space. Plus its fun to walk from one continent to another! By not taking an excursion we were able to take a must do Turkish bath (went to the one right near the Grand Bazaar and it was VERY clean). Highlight of the day. In Croatia we again had no need for a tour, great city to walk around. Beautiful. Not the bargain we thought it would be. Wish we had taken our bathing suits as the water was gorgeous.

All in all I would def. Recommend this cruise line. We had top notch service, hospitality and food. Although we were most disappointed when the lobster night was changed to another seafood, not the same.

Loved the entertainment during dinner. Can’t beat Italian song and dance coupled with the Italian peoples enthusiasm!"

"This was our first cruise with Costa around the western Caribbean and we were certainly not disappointed.

We were absolutely overwhelmed by the enormity of the ship, the first class service, superb food and fabulous entertainment and range of facilities. The kid's club was excellent with very friendly, trustworthy staff. In the evening they would take the children down to the discotheque where they had dancing and ice-cream parties.

This enabled my husband and myself to eat and to watch a show in peace - heaven! Knowing the kids were having a good time really made our holiday! The staff were all so friendly, and the amount cleaning they did was beyond belief - everything was spotless!

It was fantastic, we would highly recommend the Costa Meditteranea - excellent value for money. We are saving for the next one!"
