Hotel Rottweiler

"Disgusting hotel. Obnoxious staff who don,t care about you or your experience. They don,t care -theft in building that they tried to ignore. They refused to call the police.. I speak Spanish - the chef makes a fool of the guests. Manager is awful - truly Faulty Towers - but much worse- we paid to get out it really was that bad. Room had filthy carpets and was very dirty."

"We have just returned from a ten day holiday at the Rocador Hotel. All I can say is 'brilliant'. The staff were so friendly, they would do anything for you. The food was superb, if you didn't particularly like a dish, there was always something else to choose from. The hotel was really clean, the bedroom was perfect with views from the balcony, overlooking the beach. The swimming pool was good with plenty of sun loungers. All in all, a really good holiday."

"brilliant location, right on the beach and views to die for. breakfast was fine, not much variation but ok, very busy dinig room. rooms were basic but did have air con and were cleaned daily. small pool area but great for kids as they were never out of view like in some bigger complexes. staff all very pleasant. town was right on the doorstep. this hotel was great for location, no hills and quiet at night."

Great location

"We stayed at the Rocador for the first week of September. As some other reviews have mentioned it is quite an old hotel and the rooms are very basic. There is no fridge, tea/coffee facilities, and only very sparse furniture but they are spotlessly clean and were cleaned every day while we were there. The air conditioning is operated by putting your room key into a slot so is only on when you are in the room, which is quite annoying, and it also seems to only work during certain hours. The breakfast is ok but mainly caters for the German guests. Some of the rooms overlook the beach and if you can get one of these then it would be well worth it, but our room overlooked the pool area, which was also very nice.

The hotel grounds are really nice, there are lots of sunbeds in the garden area and by the pool, and the hotel also has an indoor pool and gym. But the location of the hotel is what makes it, right on Cala Gran beach and literally a 2-minute walk from the restaurants and bars in the town centre. The marina is only about a 5-minute walk and has some wonderful restaurants with lovely views. We would stay in this hotel again as even though the rooms are basic, they are clean and functional and the excellent location more than makes up for it.

Beautiful location

"I booked this hotel on the internet. I had stayed in this hotel 28 years ago with my parents. I revisted with my four children. I requested sea view rooms and we got them. The view was just perfect. The rooms even had an lcd on the wall which we only left a deposit for. It is not a really busy hotel and it probably needs a little updating, but for the position (as I keep saying) 2 minutes from the beach, a lovely swimming pool and right in the town centre, what more could you ask for. The food was very good which included sea food. None of us ended up with a bad tummy. The staff were always helpful. There isn't any childrens club but I like the low key entertainment and to sit at the bar in the evening over looking the sea with the distant sound of live music in the centre is just perfect. If you want noisy music etc just visit another hotel as there was only entertainment twice in the week.

Overall I am pleased that I revisited this hotel after all these years. It has still kept its charm and is typically spanish. I am sure you wont be disappointed.

Do not stay in this hotel

"We arrived at the Rocador Playa Hotel for a weeks holiday on 7th August. Our first impression of the hotel was 'wow'. The decor in the reception gave a very false impression that the hotel would be fantastic. We even commented that the hotel looked like a 4 star not a 3 star. The floors were marble and there were fancy red carpets. We were told that our rooms were in the Rocodor Playa not the Rocador. The hotels are sister hotels and are joined together. Unfortunately, the Rocador Playa Hotel was absolutely awful. Our room was on the ground floor on the far side of the hotel which involved going up and down lots of flights of stairs. The passageways to our floor were dark and dingy with no windows. The room itself was very old fashioned. It was carpeted with smelly dirty browny yellow carpet that you wouldn't even want your dog to sit on. The bunk beds for the children were ancient and in very bad condition with no safety rails. The curtains and bed covers were very dated. The bathroom looked like it had fairly recently had a bad makeover. There were lots of cracks and crevices in the walls and in the floor and no shower curtain which caused the floor get soaked every time we showered. The room made the travelodge look like a palace. It was more like 1 star accomodation. Our spirits were brightened when we went down to the beach. The hotel is situated right by the sea. The beach was called the Cala Gran and it was a beautiful small cove with clear water and golden sand. There was a very amusing fruit seller who appeared regularly selling fresh pinepple and watermelon which he chops infront of you while singing. The beach has a few restaurants which were all 'ok' but nothing special. The swimming pools were all salty water so goggles were a must as we discovered after swimming in it and all having really sore eyes. The evening entertainment was on twice a week but wasn't very popular as it wasn't very good. Most nights we were woken up in the early hours of the morning by the entertainment adjacent to the hotel. The food was ok for adults but not for small children. The menu changed slightly at every meal. We occassionly found the waiters to be slightly rude and on one occassion they complained to us that we had used too many glasses. There were 7 of us. At one meal our 9 year son old found a maggot in his bread roll and our daughter found a hair in her onion ring - yum yum! A word of advise, unless you like having a cold shower, make sure you have one early in the morning as by early evening all the hot water will be gone. The only good thing the hotel really offers you is a good location for the beach. Cala d'or is lovely. There are lots of shops. It is not as booming as Alcudia so if you don't want too much hustle and bustle then cala D'or is more for you. Apparantly if you are a couple you will be put in the Rocador hotel, if you are a family, you will be put in the Rocador Playa. The rooms in the Rocador are far superior but unfortunately you can not choose. The opinion that we have expressed is not just that of our own. There were several British families whos rooms were also 'down in the basement' as we called it who shared the same opinion as us. We heard one family arrive in the early hours of the morning. The mother said 'Oh my god' and her son said' I'll choose the hotel next time mum'. Great location, terrible hotel. P.S Try not to step on the cockroachs that live in the bathroom! On the plane journey back home, our 7 year old son was crying with pain in his ear. A trip to the doctor the next morning confirmed that he had an ear infection that the doctor said that he had most likely picked up from the swimming pool!"

HOTEL FROM HELL...diffinately not suitable for a young family.

"As a norm with a young family we would usually book well in advance in order to be sure of a good standard of accommodation and facilities. Hence, we normally book a 4 star but we booked this hotel 10 days before departure and predominantly based our decision upon reviews we read on trip advisor.

I would say that this hotel would be adequate for mature couples, as it is rustic and very typically Spanish which we thought 'great' but it is vitally important to make people aware of what could happen to you, in particular if you have young children.

Remember this is two hotels, the original Rocador has large tiled floor rooms, very rustic Spanish looking. Comfortable for two people, however, most families were placed in the Rocador Playa which can only be accessed via the Rocador, so be prepared for a hike to get to your room.

We arrived via Resort Hoppa from Palma airport, and be prepared at night time the coach will not go down the road of the hotel entrance. Therefore, we were carrying our bags a good distance before we got to the hotel entrance. Then we were told that our booking was only for 2 and not 4...their paperwork actually stated occupancy 4 and listed all our names. The consequence was that we were placed in a room up a tower. It took various corridors, stairs and two lifts to get there and then we had to carry our suitcases up a tower stairs to the highest room in the hotel. We had no air con. a standing fan was placed in the wardrobe. Two twin beds and a camp bed for 4 people.

We had no choice but to accept this for the night....and it was a dreadful first night of sleep. Eventually the next day we were moved to lower ground floor which over looked a garden wall but

at least the room had bunk beds with no safety guards.

That same night, an English family and an Italian couple were sent to another hotel because of 'over booking' .

I would recommend that you go BB because the food is poor compared to standard we have had elsewhere in Spain, lots of fish and pork. Very, very little choices for childrens menu.

We have read time and time again, that staff are friendly not whilst we were there and alot of people would agree with us. The night we arrived we had our heads bitten off for entering the restaurant at 9 o'clock and they were in the process of removing the buffet. No refreshments were offered even for the children. The chairs and table clothes looked tired and warn. And most importantly remember to replace serving spoons on there individual dish otherwise the head chef will give you verbal. I actually speak Spanish so what I heard him say to people was not pleasant.

Remember, hot water seems to run out very quickly so come off the beach and have your showers before you end up with a cold one.

What really spoilt our holiday was our eldest daughter developed an ear infection (100 euros for doctors visit and 18 euros for medication) The doctor confirmed that the infection was caused by the swimming pool. We met another family from London and both their daughters had ear infections from swimming in the pool ( they paid 140 euros plus medication per child) so be prepared, again, their doctor confirmed that the hotel pool was responsible. The hotel refused to accept this and said it was the sea.

The hotel has a fantastic location close to a lovely but small crowded beach, and also close to the centre with lots of bars and restaurants, hence, BB might be better.

We diffinately wouldn't go back again.

"I have just returned from this hotel and I loved it the location is really really good. Yeah the decor is out dated but its comfortable and clean which is what counts. I found the staff to be really friendly cant comment on the breakfast as we didnt get up early enough. The pools were really cold though which was strange as it was really hot?? Used reosrt hoppa to get there which I 100% recommend as I was a bit weary as never booked transfers seperately. Overall I would def go back even if they dont update it the beach is 2 mins away an the water is clearer than most beaches I have seen."

Wouldn't go back

"We have just returned from this hotel after spending 2 weeks there. When we arrived at 3am in the morning we booked in at reception where the night receptionist didn't speak any English and he just pointed us in the direction of our room and gave us the number of the room on some paper. As we had been required to pay full adult price for our 14 year old son who was with us we were extremely surprised by the very small room in the Rocador Player Hotel which we had been allocated. The room conisted of a single bed against the wall touching a bedside cabinet immediately followed by 2 single beds joined together and then you were at the patio doors. The patio

was about 5 square feet and only managed to accommodate the 2 cheap plastic chairs provided. You do have an ensuite bathroom but at peak times 5pm - 7pm you are lucky if you get much hot water for a shower.

Bathrooms are quite dated and our walls were quite cracked all over.

We complained and asked to be moved on more than one occassion. I asked to be either moved to a family room or at least to one of the rooms within the Rocador Hotel as these are slightly bigger rooms. I

was very rudely spoken to and quickly told that they were fully booked and the family rooms were kept for families of 4 or more. The reception staff were very unhelpful and unsympathetic to our case. I can appreciate having 3 in this small room if one of the guests is a child fare or lower but not an adult fare. In all the literature on the hotels it states that all rooms have a sea view, this is deffinately not the case. Around 80 rooms are at the back of the Rocador Player Hotel, of which 60 overlook the pool and the other 20 are too low down, so you look at a brick wall. Which is what

our room did. On the good side, the location is fantastic, we thought

it was the best location in Cala D'Or. The hotel has 2 outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool. It also has a gym and runs exercise classes in the morning. Free table tennis and plenty of sunbeds around the hotel (If you go on the beach you have to pay 11Euros per day for sunbed and parasol). The room was cleaned every day to quite a high standard by very friendly cleaners. We were half board and therefore had our breakfast and evening meal in the hotel. The food was very good apart from the sweets(puddings). The staff were excellent in the restaraunt, very friendly and efficient. The only negative here was the price of drinks. If you do book this hotel I reccommend that you ask to be located in the Rocador Hotel prior to arrival. Although

there were quite a few English peopleat this Hotel,, The majority were German with some French and some Spanish guests. As previous reviews state. The hotel is quite dated and in need of some tender loving care. Also a course in Customer care would not go a miss.

Little Gem

"We have stayed at the Hotel for the last 3 years and love it.

The staff are friendly and have all been there years. we had an apartment that overlooked the gardens and the beach.

Apartments on this side of the building have been refurbished with flat screen tvs and new bartrooms.

The position of the Hotel is ideal with a host of resturants and bars a short walk away.

The hotel offer great value for money and is a good three star.

We will be returing next Year

fabulous accomodation

"The Hotel has a fabulous location right on the beach. Very helpful staff, kept extremley clean and air con in the rooms. We couldnt have asked for more.

The only down side is that the decor is very dated. A bit like walking into a 1960s - 1970s time warp. But this does not effect your stay at all. in fact it makes it kinda quaint!!

After a long day sunbathing on the beach you have a 2min walk to your room (with balcony) which over looks the cove and sea then after a shower and change in your cool air-conditioned room a 2 minute walk to all the wonderful bars and restaurants in the heart of Cala d'or.

My only advice would be only book B&B. The breakfast is OK!

Why eat at the hotel in the evening when the town and nearby marina is jammed with fantastic restaurants.

A wonderful, wonderful holiday destination which my partner and I will visit year after year.

We would certainly book the Rocador again.

A little old fashioned

"We have just returned from Cala D'or where we stayed at the Rocador hotel.

Firstly, how to find it !!

As Cala d'dor is a bit of a maze of narrow streets and one way systems it can be difficult to find the hotel as we and other guests found.

From the village of Calonge, about 4Km from Cala D'or, follow the road towards Cala D'or to the first roundabout, go straight ahead ,at the next roundabout go straight ahead again, at the end of the road bear left and then go slightly right into a narrow one way street. Follow this to the end and turn left opposite the taxi rank, take the next road on the right ( the Sa Font cafe is on the corner ), and the hotel can be found on the left in about 50 metres.

You can park outside the hotel but you will have to pay, so go a little further along the road and you can park free of charge there.

As we approached the hotel, we were struck by the front entrance which looked lovely, gleaming white paintwork and huge sliding glass doors. The swimming pool , which is not huge, is on the left as you go down the slope to reception.

When you enter reception that is when you realise this is not a new hotel, but one that has stood here for some time.

There are carpets running down the centre of the tiled corridors which are great for sound deadening from returning guests late at night ( no klip klopping of shoes on tiles !).

Reception staff were efficient if not the friendliest staff i have ever met.

The elevator is absolutely tiny, Two people and their luggage just about fill it, but the stairs are a fairly easy climb if your bags are not too heavy.

We were on the third floor in room 1319. All the rooms along this corridor have terraces that look out over the Cala Gran beach and the cove itself. The view took my breath away. In all my travels i can say this was the loveliest view you could wish for.

We could (and did ) spend much too much time just looking at the boats coming in and going out of the cove and the people below on the beach, in particular the man who sells fruit and coconuts, you can hear him clearly as he goes about his business!

My only complaint here was that our terrace was big enough for two sunbeds, but it was only furnished with two chairs and a small table, you are not permitted to take sunbeds onto the terrace.

The only other complaint was the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room, a little unusual these days we thought.

The breakfast was adequate though not a huge choice, self service from a central area in the dining room, Hot and cold foods, the hot and cold drinks available from vending machines.

Again the views across the beach and cove are lovely.

There is entertainment 3 nights a week, we went to one of these evenings but didn't go back to any other of the nights.prefering to go to the Hollywood Bar Karaoke which was VERY entertaining.

Would we go back here ? Yes without doubt, if you want a laid back holiday with lots of restaurants to choose from, a friendly ambiance then Cala D'or should be near the top of your list.If you want a good hotel (not too modern ) with views to die for ,then the Rocador should also be high on your list.

Hopefully you will now be able to find it easier than we did.

Have a great time there.
