best holiday ever

"Me and my family have just returned from the best holiday ever, at the Eleon Grand Resort and Spa. Yes maybe not a 5* yet! however, have been assured by the management that everything will be ironed out this winter. The service at the hotel was top class, the staff were very attentive. The food at the hotel was amazing the best i've had at any all inclusive property. Rooms were cleaned every day and maids came at night to change towels and arrange your bed for the night. The only downside is that the daytime and evening entertainment was not great, the animation team tried their best, however were unsussessful. The hotel is located in a quiet area with not alot to do around about, however you can take a taxi to either Zante Town for 10 euros, Tsillivi for 7 euros, or use the local bus service for 1 euro 40 cents. I will certainly be booking for next year."

Quit worrying and enjoy

"We have just got back from a lovely relaxing two weeks at the Eleon and can honestly say that there are absolutely no problems with this hotel. The other buildings are completely finished and have guests in them – even the family suites with their scarily deep mini swimming pools. The workmen are now hard at it completing all the landscaping and bar in that area. The difference we saw from the day we arrived to the day we left was phenomenal! For those who are keen to get out and about it is a 25 minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride from Tsilivi and 15 minutes taxi ride from Zakynthos town.

The entertainment is currently in the hotel main bar in the evening but this is only temporary as the new bar is to be its home with a stage being built for the purpose so the main bar should become a little quieter for those who prefer that. The children’s playground has also been completed and is next to what will be the home of the mini club which is built but didn’t look furnished – a couple of days away I’d say.

Shower screens had been delivered and they were being fitted throughout the final week we were there. The spa was still housed in one of the hotel suites and all treatments were available, including a sauna built next to the hotel, close to the water slides.

The service is truly fabulous and you’ll never dehydrate as waiters circulate all day asking if you need anything to drink. Most of the waiters are Polish with some Russians and are all friendly and very hard working. My only staff complaint would be the management who harass the staff to work even harder all day, totally unnecessary in my opinion. There are currently only 5 animation staff and yet they too are hard working and very friendly, with a typical programme of daily activities which they ask you to join in but don’t hassle you if you don’t want to. The tennis court is also now up and running.

The restaurant seems too small to cater for the number of guests, which will only get worse when the hotel is fully booked as they struggle to fit everyone in at the moment. Although the pools are a good size with lots of space around them, lounger claiming starts early and most are taken by 8am. There are usually some left on the beach but late risers may get very frustrated.

If you have any worries about this hotel then I’d say forget them all, it truly is one of, if not the best hotels on the island, the service gets better each day and when it’s finally all up and running it will probably cost twice as much to go as it is such a high standard.

lovely resort, great staff, poor service by First CHoice...................

"Rep left the coach 2 hotels previous so we were left in the hands of the hotel staff. They were great and looked after us very well. One of the party was on crutches and we were placed in a room in a seperate building 200 metres from the main hotal bulding. This isnt in the brochure but the staff changed it with no fuss at all.

The food is out of this world and there is always something for everyone.

Yes the hotel isnt finished yet and yes there is the odd little niggle but nothing that will spoil your holiday.

The only bad point we found is that there is no seperate bar and childrens entertainment area. In a 5 star hotel you expect there would be somewhere to have a quiet drink on an evening but until 10pm you could have up to 60 children running through the bar area and quiet it is not.

Over all i would say, great food, lovely hotel and great staff. Just the lack of a quiet bar area that i think needs to be looked at.

Wonderful Hotel when Eventually got There

"Booked the holiday about 2 months before we set off and two days before we were due to go were told the hotel was not finished although we had been in a week before and told Thomas Cook that we had seen on the internet that the hotel was not finished and were assured that it was fine. We were offered the Iberostar Plagos Beach which was supposed to be of a similar standard and would be £300 more which they would cover as it was them changing our booking. On arriving at Plagos Beach we were horrified to find a very dated and poor standard hotel, we met others from different holiday groups that were in the same position that went to the Eleon and were satisfied with the standard of completion of the hotel to want to stay there, we went and investigated ourselves and after seeing the Eleon Grand (even though it wasn't finished) we were desparate to get there as it was fantastic compared to the Plagos Beach which we didn't even unpack our suitcases at. After nunmerous phone calls to the UK we got moved, the First Choice rep. was most unhelpful and kept telling us we would be moved at certain times but it never happened until three and a half days of hanging about waiting to move. The Eleon Grand was brilliant when we eventually got there and we were really relieved to have been on holiday for 2 weeks having lost almost 4 days of our holiday hanging about waiting to move. The staff etc were really pleasant and couldn't do enough for you, the sun loungers were really comfortable as was the rooms etc."

Be Aware!

"A fantastic hotel, but not finished. The spa is not nearly ready, so you are paying for something that is not available. We were woken up one day hearing drilling in the spa.

When we stayed there was one bar open, which had the childrens entertainment at 9pm. Not what I would call fun! No nightlife at all.

This hotel is rated 5*, but there is no laundry service, no room service, no bus service, its one saving grace is the FOOD, really good Greek and International food!

The holiday company we went with did not tell us of the problems before we left, I even contacted the hotel, who told me all building work was completed, we were informed on the coach to the hotel that the spa (reason we booked) was not open.

Although I was not happy with the holiday, there is potential for a wonderful hotel here, I would like to see it once it's finished.

Will be excellent when its finished and all the facilities are available

"Hi, I have just come back from a weeks stay at this hotel with four girl friends we came home on 27th June. We are all avid travellers so feel we have a lot of experience in what to expect of a 5 star hotel, so here is my honest representation of the hotel.

The way the hotel has been designed is excellent the panoramic views from the reception and the pools is stunning. The staff are extremely helpful and attentive you cannot fault the service and the food was fabulous. We were luck enough to stay in the Junior Suites which have a small patio with table and chairs and look out onto the pools. They were very spacious and the maid service was excellent. Unfortunately there are several negatives which do need addressing by the hotel. We did have a seperate shower/wet room in our suites however these had no hot water to them the whole of our stay, there is an alternative shower in the bathroom however, be prepared for the water to go all over the floor as there are no shower curtains fitted. There is also a mini fridge in the rooms however these were not filled up and were also leaking water onto the floor. The spa, tennis courts and gym are not finished which was disappointing as we went for a girly spa break (consequently there was a lot of drilling going on). There is however a make shift treatment room where body massages were on offer, we had a couple of treatments and they were very good. The beach is very small and needs to have some sand imported onto it, the covering is more like the surrounding soil. There are no showers installed yet to clean your feet when you come up from the beach. One of the main questions I would ask the owners of this hotel is what do they really want it to be? It is extremely relaxing and tranquil, beautifully furnished with excellent sunbeds and umberellas and really does lent its self to being a spa retreat (when its working!) yet it is open to children? I love kids and have two beautiful daughters of my own but it just did not seem to gel within these surroundings? I would like to conclude by saying we did have a plesant relaxing stay but were disappointed that so many features of the hotel were unavailable. I imagine that in a year ot two this hotel has the potential to be amazing.

Will be perfect when they iron out the teething problems!

"When we pulled up I was a bit nervous because the road that leads up to the hotel hasnt been finished but when you walk into the hotel it really does look amazing. We were not kept waiting long for our room and while we were waiting we were encouraged to order some drinks, have a walk around the hotel or have a spot of lunch. When we walked into our room it really was lovely. We paid a bit extra for a sea view room and im glad we did because the other rooms had a view onto the front of the hotel which included the unfinished road.

The rooms were modernly furnished and I loved the dressing gowns and towels they provided you with for the pool. The only issue I had with the rooms was the fact that they didnt have a shower curtain but to help with this issue they came into the room in the evening to clean up water in the bathroom and turn down the bed. A little trick to ensure that you get clean pools towels everyday (and to also prevent you from slipping and breaking your neck on the water from the shower) is to put your towels down to mop up the water and they they replace them.

The food I cannot fault! There was soooo much choice and the main choices were never the same. There is a vast choice of fruit and salads. I LOVED the food!!!

There was plenty of choice for soft and alcoholic drinks and the cocktails are yummy!

The pools are also amazing and there was plenty of sunbed and umbrellas - they were putting lots of new ones out when we were there.

The entertainment is pretty poor. To be fair though they animation team do try their best but we were very disappointed with the lack of evening entertainment and I feel this really lets the 5 star hotel down. I think the hotel really needs to sort this out and get some varied evening entertainment.

The beach is pretty rubbish and we didnt use because you cant really walk on there and I was really put off by all the c^ap in the water but it seems that they brought sand in for the beech and there were guys in the sea with a wheelbarrow literally pulling the rocks and seaweed out although it will take them months!

One last thing which we didnt find out until 2 days before we left and with the poor evening entertainment it maybe useful to other people - they were offering free inroom films because the spa wasnt finished although it is best to check at reception first because they are not automatically telling people, you have to ask for it.

I would love to go back once the hotel has totally fininshed!

Wonderful hotel - will return

"My fiance and I were recommended this hotel by our agent and we weren't dissapointed.

First - the negatives...

As documented previously, parts of the grounds are like a building site and work is ongoing - landscaping and building both.

We were looking forward to playimgb tennies but the court wasn't ready for use. Little things such as lack of shower curtain etc are an inconvenience, however certainly didn't cause any major issues.

Lots more positives than negatives though.

We upgraded from a lower level room with garden view, to an upper level with Sea view - aI would 100% recommend this to anyone travelling to this hotel. Partly as the 'gardens' were mainly mud with grass sprouting through, but also because the view over the pools, and bar areas then onto the sea is stunning and very relaxing.

Room - no complaints. I'm not shy to pester staff (in a nice way) when on holiday and managed to get our TV changed to English instruction which made things much easier. Bed was comfy enough, plenty of storage space and it was kept clean.

Restaurant / Bars - This was superb. The food was great - lots of choice and variety, and it was all delicious. It is a 5* hotel so I expected nicer food than a previous stay at a 3* all inclusive whci consisted of fairly basic grub. Veal, lamb and rabbit were just 3 of many dishes I enjoyed, all of which wre cooked well. There is plenty of variety should a member of your party be a fussy eater...

The wine was lovely too, though rose wasn't part of the all inclusive list. The local beers were fine and there was enough choice of spirits etc available on the all inclusive menu. The bar was nice and relaxed, with tables and seats outside as well as the option of sitting on comy sofa's in the lounge are with drinks.

Pools / Beach - The pools were great - must have swam to the mainland and back twice over! The 'waterpark' consists of 4 slides, but they were good fun.

The beach was lovely and relaxing early evening though we didn't really venture down there often.

Staff - Were all helpful and polite. Some of the girls in the reastaurant/bar didn't seem to stop but always smiled. The animation team were ok too, and were good with the numeruous children on site.

I would say it's worth heading to Zante Town(Zakynthos) for a day and the trip to Shipwreck Bay was decent (beware the bus journey if you dont like heights!). We hired a quadbike for 25euros and that got us about for a day and was worthwhile.

All in all we may well return here an would certainly recommend the Eleon Grand as it will be even better when finished.

"We were unfortunate to be one of the few that were told that this place was not ready for guests to stay in by the tour company and told that we had to accept another hotel or cancel the hotel part of our holiday (meaning we had to find our own - which we did).

We arrived in Zante at 7am and decided that we should go and look at the Eleon on our way to the hotel we had organised. On arrival the entrance and driveway looked like a building site, we were instantly relieved that we werent staying there - but then it all changed! We got to the reception and it was amazing, the bar, restaurant and furnishings were immaculate. Then we walked outside and thought how can we leave. We asked reception if they had any rooms available and explained the situation to why we were forced to cancel. Unfortunately they were fully booked (for the rooms that were complete). We were devasted. We went to the Lesante and were constantly thinking back at what opportunity we had missed out on due to poor service by our travel company.

Basically what I am trying to say is it looks amazing, I cannot speak of the rooms as we never got into one but the general outlay is one of WOW. This was two weeks ago and we never went back (although we did drive passed the boundary wall to go somewhere else ans the tennis court was still in the same unfinished condition it was two weeks previous). So it depends on what you are going for. My rating goes on what I saw not what I experienced but the staff were all very good at looking after us and trying to help us.

On completion this place will be amazing but it is liveable in just now - don't let your tour company say otherwise. It is a little bit out from Tsilivi but it is a short taxi ride.

I have pics should you want to see a recent outlook on the place - feel free to ask.

Will be great when finished!

"Our stay was from 8th -15th June. There are no signs for the hotel as you approach it and the driveway doesn't give a good first impression, with it being unfinished. Once inside the staff are very good, helpful and friendly. There is no faulting the service at all.

Rooms - very spacious and comfortable. The trouble is things have not been finished off very well. We had room with full bath with shower over, but no screen or curtain, therefore however careful you are the bathroom gets flooded. It seems screens are on order, but haven't arrived and so maids come in twice a day at the moment to sop-up. Others had no working toilet for 2 days, some TV's didn't work (films and internet, although not linked up yet, are charged) and as of the 15th the telephones had not been connected. All things that should have been sorted before having guests arrive.

Restaurant and bars - At the start of our holiday only one of each, but the pool bar opened on 13th, but just with drinks when the pools were in use. The staff are really good. Food and drink all very good with plenty of choice.

Spa - not built yet. No fitness centre. There is a massage table by the pool and they are using a guest room to do treatments as well at the moment.

Beach - you need a lot of imagination to call it a beach. You certainly couldn't build a sand castle as there is more rubble than sand. It is quite rocky/stoney getting into the water and most people had 'beach/swim shoes' to make it easier.

Pools - all lovely and at night a light show. They need a few more sunbeds/brolleys and already the annoying habit of 'towels down at the crack of dawn' has started.

Waterslides - great fun!

The building site - block 2 is finished, but is close to the family/splash pool buildings that are not as yet and is being used as staff quarters. Although the tennis court and all weather pitch are finished, they are again in this area and therefore not in use. Kids club and playground are yet to be finished. The bar in this area is only a concrete shell. The family/splash pool buildings are not that far off completion, but with the area around not too good it will be a while. Was concerned to see how deep the splash pools are for young children.

They are working really hard to get this hotel finished, but when it is it will be fantastic, at the moment as our rep quite rightly said 'it's a work in progress'.

"We were a bit dubious as the hotel had only been open for 3 days, There were a few teething problems which were sorted as the days went by, some of the facilities are not operational at the moment, but the staff more than make up for this. The staff cannot do enough for you and the food and rooms are superb. When everything is complete this hotel will truly be a 5 star resort.

Denny and Mac.
