This is our second visit to the Sir...

"This is our second visit to the Sir Anthony Hotel, and will definitely not be our last.

Our room was located on the ground floor and was clean and spacious. Fruit and champagne greeted us on our arrival, and various other goodies were left in our room during the week.

Patio doors led onto our own balcony which was furnished with reclining chairs and a table. A few steps gave direct access to the landscaped gardens and pool area.

There was always plenty of sunbeds for the guests, and a pool attendant made sure that towels and parasol were provided.

The entire hotel was spotlessly clean, and the bathroom towels were changed at least twice a day. All the staff from the reception bar and restaurant were efficient and friendly.

The majority of the guests in the hotel were regulars, some returning twice every year.

Although we had only booked on a bed and breakfast basis we ate most nights in the Windsor restaurant which was not over-priced and was of a high standard.

The location of the hotel is excellent being right in the heart of the resort with lots of shops, bars, restaurants etc, plus being right on the promenade.

We looked at several other hotels during our stay, but the Sir Anthony cannot be bettered.

This was our 5th visit to the Sir...

"This was our 5th visit to the Sir Anthony and we have just booked our 6th. When you read some of the reviews on other sites you would probably get a distorted view of this hotel.

It’s the kind of hotel a lady on her own could go to and be wonderfully looked after. The rooms are spacious and most have recently been decorated and every room has a sea view. The gardens are immaculate and the pool area is superb. The pool is always warm and inviting and there are never any squabbles about sun beds as most of the time its never crowded.

The food is the usual buffet breakfast with hot food cooked for you if you wish. We stay bed and breakfast because there are so many restaurants locally. Close by there is a very up market shopping centre with designer shops and also the usual perfume and electrical shops (let the buyer beware). The staff are second to non nothing is too much trouble. Go and be spoiled. (No I don't work for them) I am just a very satisfied guest.

An oasis of calm

"We have justv returned from our 5th visit to the Sir Anthony and it is getting better. The hotel has had a change of manager and the improvements can be seen. This hotel has only 72 rooms and most of the guests have been there several times before.the gardens are immaculate and the pool warm and inviting(never more than 6 people in at one time). The food is ok but breakfast menu never varies which can be a little boring. The rooms have recently been decorated and are always very clean with beds changed daily and towels twice a day.The staff are wonderful nothing is too much trouble champagne and fruit in rooms on arrival and little treats of cheeses and wine during your stay champagne and chocolates on leaving. Each year we say we will not come next year but we always do.We travel independantly booking direct with the hotel they pick us up at the airport and take us back at the end of our stay. All in all a very relaxing holiday. One last thing they have had new sunloungers they do not have cushions as the old ones did ask the pool boy for a cushion because after two weeks you may need a chiropractor."

We really loved Sir Anthony

"This is the third time we went to Tenerife. The second time we were there we saw Sir Anthony and wanted to stay there during our next stay in Tenerife. This time we stayed for two weeks.

We were a little troubled because of recent negative reviews. However in our opinion these reviews are not founded.

The five stars of this hotel are absolutely justified. We have stayed in many five star hotels and resorts (St Martin, Aruba, Bonaire, Bora Bora, Tahiti, Petit St Vincent, Mustique etc) so we know what to expect.

The service and quality of the staff was exceptional. Room service never took more than 15 minutes regardless of what we ordered. The receptionist, especially Mrs. Angel Sierra, took care of all our needs and went out of her way to make our stay very memorable.

Our room was very good, much better than we expected. We had a triplex room with a private plunge pool. A very good and large bed (length 2,20 m, width 2,50 m). Two toilets and the bath was large enough for two. Everything very clean and well taken care of.

If you stay on the first floor you do not have any sea view because of the wall and trees that block your view. So make sure you either have a duplex of triplex room or ask for a room on the second floor.

The hotel is perfectly situated between Las Americas en Los Cristianos (15 min walk). Nice beaches. This hotel is for people who are seeking rest, comfort and special treatment. You can use all the facilities of the Mare Nostrum Resort. It was very quiet in the hotel and at the pool area. The pool is small but large enough for the guests of Sir Anthony. Guests of the sister hotels are not allowed to use this pool.

In our opinion this hotel is not suited for children because they have a tendancy to disturb the peace and quiet other guests are looking for in such a small and exclusive hotel like Sir Anthony. The sister hotels have much more facilities for kids. Luckely there were hardly any children during our stay.

We would not advise half board or full board because there are too many excellent restaurants to explore. To name a few: La Rana, La Rincon del Arroz (Los Cristianos) and the best of all: El Pote (Los Cristianos). For El Pote: let the hotel make a reservation and ask for a surprise menu.

We also went to La Vieja in La Caleta for the fish. The view was stunning but the food was awful.

For cocktails you have to visit the Monkey Bar. No doubt the best cocktails of the island. The food is good to.

One negative point is that the traffic has increased a lot during the last 10 years. Driving on the highway and in the villages is much like driving here in Holland. It is very busy so driving is not relaxing. Only when you go more inland (for instance to El Teide) is gets quieter. But if you want to get around you need a car.

We are sure that we will go back and stay at Sir Anthony again. We can recommend it.

"Stayed at the resort for a week at the beginning of June. Was originally booked into the Marco Antonio in a room overlooking the pool but there is an 'Opera Restaurant' and a show nightly that kept me awake so asked for a quieter room and was moved to the Sir Anthony- supposed to be the deluxe hotel in the resort. Whole resort is very big- 5 hotels in total- and quite daunting when first arriving. No porter help was offered and I had to cart my suitcase across the resort in the heat of the afternoon. Not exactly 5-star service! Rooms are quite dated- whole complex is very 70's in architecture- but the rooms are spacious and extremely clean although a little tired in places. There are 4 pools and spent most of the time lounging around the private pool at the Sir Anthony which was very relaxing. The two main pools were very busy and people looked a little like ants! They do lots of activities in the main pools which were very noisy. The spa was great- not busy at all and they have Yoga classes each day although they do charge extra to use the gym. Breakfast in the Sir Anthony was ok- plenty of food although no variation each day and the staff were friendly. Never ate dinner in the hotel- found the Monkey Bar across the road - lots of cocktails and great steaks! Nothing really great or really bad about the hotel- just mediocre"

"We had a room on the first floor which had a sea view - unlike those rooms on the ground floor, which are adjacent, literally, to the pool. The hotel has access to the entire Mare Nostrum resort, the centre of which are two enormous pool areas. The Sir Anthony pool is much quieter and much smaller. Spring time was fine for us but I can imagine that small children at peak holiday times running loose could be a problem for some (see other reviews!!).

Not five star, by any means, but our room was so big it even had a sunken bath. We did not find the staff as attentive or as efficient as you would normally expect from such star studded accommodation. Three * and a fair rating would be about right. Apart from breakfast we did not eat in the hotel, but we found some other great restaurants nearby.

Go to the Guardia Civil and turn right about 200 to 300 yards - two together on the left just next to a Pizza place - very good indeed, but can't remember the names!!!

5 star hotel ?

"We read the reviews prior to booking and we have an alternative view. The location is fine, ideal for Los Cristianos. However the hotel boasts 5 stars, well, it has a small pool area, a small dining room and a entrance hall that doubles as a bar. It has no other facilities, if you want anything else you have to go to the other 4 star hotels within the complex. The hotel suggest every room has a sea view, well we were on the ground floor and if we had had a long ladder with us we may have seen the sea! As I say the pool is small with a compact area around it which is fine probably most of the time as it is no doubt frequented mostly by older couples. Perhaps we were unlucky because at the time we were there, there was a family with small children, therefore any hopes of dozing or reading a book were interupted by, Harvey come here! Harvey stop doing that! Harvey be quiet!

And so said all of us!

It was our first visit and no doubt our last, in our opinion it was not worthy of 5 stars. However if you require a quiet holiday, check first if Harvey is there the same week, if he is not you may be okay.

the position and intimate size make this hotel worth the stay

"We often stay for a week at a time in Tenerife. We have tried a large number of hotels over the years, but we always come back to the Sir Anthony. The position is perfect for easy access to Los Chritianos and for strolls up the water front towards Playa. It's easy to source great restaurants, within walking distance, or a short taxi ride.

The hotel is unique in our experience in this area, for its smallness - 72 rooms in total I think, - which means each guest gets great attention. The hotel is slightly jaded now, and could do with some upgrading to deserve its 5 stars, however, we have only ever experienced immaculate cleaning, and this goes a long way at any hotel!

We always instantly relax in this place, the breakfast , eaten on the terrace, is a gorgeous start to the day. Lunch , eaten on the same terrace is a relaxed affair, and a welcome break from the sun.

We have never eaten dinner, preferring to go to our favourite restaurants.

The pool area is a lovely quiet place to rest - directly on the sea front.

Management response from HotelSirAnthony, 14 Jun 2008

Dear Sir, We would like to thank you for your sincere comments on your stay at Sir Anthony Hotel. I contact you because I would like to inform you that we are in this moment undergoing a full refurbishment of the Sir Anthony Hotel. This initiative is to up date the infrastructure, as it is 20 years old and position the hotel between the best 5***** hotels of the islands. This renovation will take place during this year and Sir Anthony Hotel will reopen again end of 2008. For then we will have a hotel that meets the best standards and offers a wide range of additional services, to what it already offered. We will create a complete new look modernizing the rooms with a spacious minimalist line offering all the best commodities that a 5***** hotel can offer but with an added value, it has the best situation and offers a total of 71 rooms… This places Sir Anthony between the best boutique hotels of the island. If you would like to receive further updates on the refurbishment do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you again. Best regards Manger Hotel Sir Anthony

Sir Anthony - nice Hotel

"Stayed in a Suite at the Hotel last week. Very impressed with the staff and overall quality of service - as good as anywhere that I have stayed.

The Hotel would in truth benefit from a facelift as it looks a little tired, all the same it is spotlessly clean and the facilities are well maintained. Being a realitvely small hotel in a resort of very large ones it feels homely, and benefits from a first class location with all rooms having sea views.

True 5*

"Having been to many "alleged" 5* hotels, Sir Anthony really does show you how it should be done. Service and experience cannot be faulted.

All rooms/balconies face the sea so no wories about a sea view.

Rest and Relaxation at the Sir Anthony

"Trailing through the minefield of brochures on Tenerife is fraught with difficulties. I'm happy to stay that having picked the Sir Anthony Hotel, that's where all our difficulties ended.Set facing the beach, the hotel is part of the Mare Nostrum Resort, and is the "pearl" of the resort. The hotel is fairly quiet, suitable for couples, or those with a young family. The hotel is set apart from the rest of the resort in that the pool is private from the other hotels - a massive bonus. You are also free to use any of the other hotels' facilities - swimming pools, restaurants if you so choose, gym and tennis courts.Staff of the hotel were more than eager to please - nothing was too much trouble, even down to providing a separate room for changing on the last day if your flight is a late one. A welcome change to standards of service in many so called 5* hotels. All in all, a more than enjoyable stay - very relaxing and the location is superb - close enough to restaurants and the beach, but secluded enough to be private."
