Never Again

"This is the worst hotel we have stayed at EVER.

The food was terrible. (Vegetables were not cooked, food were often cold, even thoug we ate earlie, the meat were full of fat, they over salted the food) The staff was not very friendly or helpful.

The girls in the reseption were annoyed when you came to ask them something. The room seemed like it had not been cleaned in 3 months. We travelled with two small children, and the baby beds were in such a lousy condition, that one of the collapsed. (Our baby was about 7 kgs) In the play ground we found a lot of broken glass and sigarett bums. Even thoug we asked someone to clean it up, nothing were done. The pool is to small for a hotell this sice, so the water was very filthy. There were 0,7 sunbed per room!! and they were all occupied at 07.30 in the morning. The "beach" is very, very small.

The escape exit from our room (in case of fire) were looked, and the key was missing, so in case of fire, we would have to run out the next exit, very far from our room. The door was open during the day, but in the after noon they locked it.

We also payed extra for seaview veranda, so that we could sit outside after the children had fallen asleep (around 8-9 ) but there were no light out there,so it made it rather impossible.

Hotel Epidaurus

"We stayed at the Hotel Epidaurus in May 2008.

The situation of the Hotel is really lovely, overlooking the bay and a very nice walk into Cavtat besides the sea.

The Hotel rooms were clean and maid service was excellent, all the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Although we paid extra for a sea view with balcony it took some imagination to fit two people onto it because it was so small although other balconies were larger. We also had a partially obscurred view of the sea.

Food was fine although a bit repetitive by the end of the week and you need a very sweet tooth to enjoy desserts.

The worst part of the holiday was the evening entertainment which consisted of young entertainers jumping around and miming to very, very loud music. Although these young people worked hard one fault with the Hotel is that there is no quite lounge if you wish to just sit and talk.

There is an outside balcony area but people inside wanted the doors open so this was also very noisey. A member of our party closed the door one evening as the noise was really loud and was threatened by a drunken women of unknown origin.

We saw groups of holiday makers with three tables full of drinks as it came upto 11pm and one evening the security guard had to break up a group of over zealous drinkers. In fairness they were made to pour the drinks away and the room quietened down.

We will be going back to Croatia as it is a truly lovely country with wonderful people just hope we can sit and talk in the evenings next time.

Stayed here with our two four year...

"Stayed here with our two four year olds, just out of the main season and was pleased to find the hotel still busy.

Was really pleased with this choice. We flew from Manchester with Thomsonfly which was cheap and then a quick taxi ride from the airport which cost 200 kuna. We booked online via the Iberostar website and the hotel reception was really helpful via internet as all the 'family' rooms were booked up. We requested a large room with an extra bed which is exactly what we got and the room was a really good size - double and a 2 singles. Only downside to the room was that it didn’t have a sea view and it was in E block which was a bit of a trek from the pool area and no lift to the floor level we stayed on - hard work if you have small children or disabilities - though I guess if you asked for a specific room the staff would probably arrange it for you.

It is a 3 star. The Albatross next door is probably a bit posher but didn't seem to do family rooms but not much to choose between them really.

The hotel was all-inclusive. I was actually pleasantly surprised after having heard mixed reports on all-inclusives. There was lots of choice, very fresh food, plenty of soft drinks etc. We barely spent any money really. The dining room was a bit canteen style but you could sit outside on the terrace which was nice, and have fresh meat and fish cooked for you. Guests were of all nationalities - english being very much the minority which was refreshing after having spent hols in the Balearics previously. Staff were very friendly, especially the Star Friends. Our boys loved the entertainment for kids and the mini club which they virtually had to themselves as schools had gone back. There were countless games and exercise classes for adults too - we being reserved brits did not join in but the Italians and Germans seemed to love it!

The outdoor pools were fine but freezing cold as was the sea but it was mid-Sept - may have been more bearable in August! Cavtat is a 20 min walk - very nice after dinner to walk off the all inclusive food. Dubrovnik cheap and easy to get to by boat or bus for a day trip. We actually spent a week at the hotel and then a further week in Dubrovnik in an apartment so only went there once from Cavtat by mistake as were trying to visit an island and didn't manage to catch the boat back to Cavtat.

All in all we had a really good time and would recommend this hotel to families and couples not fazed by being the only Brits surrounded by all other euros. Value for money was excellent for what you get.

Cavtat- the photos don't do it justice

"We stayed for one week all inclusive at the Hotel Epidurus, Cavtat in Sept 2007. Cavtat is just a 5 minute taxi ride from the Hotel (we paid £34 for a prebooked return trip but later found that the hotel could book taxis for around £18 return). Our room was at the front of the Hotel, so no sea view. It was pretty small but adequate for our needs. The decor however could use some updating as the room was quite shabby. The hotel food is plentiful and on the whole pretty good although could generally do with being hotter. We found the best selections to be meat and fish from the grill, where the food was cooked fresh instead of being left to stand on the buffet. There was always a good selection, especially at breakfast time with cereals, continental and cooked varieties on offer. Wines, both red and white, both perfectly drinkable, along with beer are served at lunch and dinner. On the whole we found the Hotel staff along with all the staff we encountered in the town to be very friendly and helpful. Cavtat itself is a really pretty town which in our opinion, the photos we’d seen on the internet did not do justice to. The planes coming into land at the nearby airport are by no means too noisy or too frequent. It well worth visiting some of the restaurants in the town which serve mainly very good value fish dishes and pizzas. We’d definitely consider a return visit to Cavtat in the future."

A place to return to

"We've stayed at this hotel for one week in September 2007, all inclusive. The hotel (rated 3 stars) is nice and quiet but a little bit antiquated. It is near to the airport (3 km) but not noisy. The rooms are fair but caution with the sea view, as there are rooms behind the pine garden with little view. The plumbing is also a bit noisy. The hotel is located in a beautiful bay and about 1 km (15 minutes walking) from the village (and harbour) of Catvat (spelled Tsavtat) and the promenade to there by the shore is really nice. Buses (n. 10, 12 kunas each way) to Dubrovnik departure from there every 30 minutes. You can also take a boat (80 kunas, round trip). The hotel staff is very friendly, except for the rent-a-car guys, who will insult you (as they did to us) for a 15 minutes delay in car return. The food is fine but quite monotous. The beverage (local beer, wine and liquors) is OK. The swimming pools (adults and children) are small and not much popular as you have the hot waters beach nearby (10 meters). The place is near to the surrounding countries and we went from there to Bosnia (Mostar and Sarajevo, 1 day) and Montenegro and Albania (following day. We loved Albania, despite the poverty: people are very friendly). In the end, this place and hotel are a good choice."

Sheer bliss

"My family and I had a weeks holiday in this hotel back in 2004 and we can honestly say that every holiday hotel we`ve stayed at since hasn`t approached anywhere near the standard of the Epidaurus.

We have never revisited a hotel in the past but after reading the recent reviews we have decided to try and book again for next year - this time for two weeks.

My children found it amazing!

"Hotel is 3 star and I would agree with the rating. We had a family room which was fairly large - always cleaned with crisp white sheets each day. Reception and everyone else always had a smile. Position of hotel is just ideal - right onto the sea. My children are teenagers and if they are happy then naturally any parents can then enjoy themselves. The Animation club were excellent - always doing something but not pressurising. The water sports were excellent - thanks to Anna, Anna, Kate, Dessi, Lucy and many others too many to mention.

The tablecloths were again crisp and replaced immediately you left the table. Would recommend to any aged family.

The hotel is convenient for a walk into Cavtat and you can get the bus and boat nearby to Dubrovnik.

Many thanks to all. Pauline and family

good all inclusive, cosmos holiday, at cavtat croatia

"We had a really good week at Cavtat - only 2.5 hours flight, very quick easy airport and only a few minutes to hotel. All inclusive package which was very good value. Cosmos included various excursions - trip to Mostar very good but long, ineresting town. trip to Montenegro, many hairpin bends on mountian road but a good day with beautiful scenery. Another day we went to Ston - town walls, salt flats, seafood lunch, followed by botanical gardens (mostly trees). Another day guided tour of Dubrovnik. Dunrovnik is easy to get to from Cavtat - ferry goes from near hotel, and also from Cavtat.(approx. £8 return). Cavtat, lovely 20 min. walk along by the sea, from hotel. We did book optional trip on the Sunday to folklore performance which we enjoyed, also wine tasting, and embroidery/craft stalls. We found the hotel good value, good choice for meals. Lots of families as it was August, but quiet in hotel rooms. Overall very good value and interesting area to explore."

pleasantly surpised

"We have just returned from a fortnight in the Epidaurus hotel and it was the perfect place to use as a base. Although it was an A/Inc establishment, it didn't prevent us from going out and about.

The hotel is located on the sea front but it doesn't have a sandy beach. It does have a short strip of sharp, uncomfortable stones which requires you to wear footwear to swim. Also be aware of the sea urchins................they hurt, according to those who fell foul of them !!

There are two small pools, one for children and a larger one for adults. Not great for swimming but ok to cool off and relax in.

The Cash bar, located by the pool, is handy for beers, spirits, soft drinks and hot drinks. All local brands so don't expect brand named drinks unless you're prepared to pay in Kunas.

The Animation Team are enthusiastic and work tirelessly to encourage others to participate in their games etc...... but they are ever so noisy. Don't expect peace and quiet if you choose to position your sunbeds close to the pool. Not only are they loud but their music is loud also. Having said that, they are a bunch of really nice, polite young people who are keen to impress, and I can't fault their energy and enthusiasm.

The evening entertainment requires some fine tuning. I'm affraid it's the usual one night it's bingo, then quiz night, the music quiz then singing and dancing etc...... They do dance their hearts and lungs out when they put on a show on the platform. It's worth going along to.

Come 23.00hrs......................all inc drinks stop and it's time to get the Kunas out if you intend to continue drinking.

Sunbeds.........I know it's not right and breaks the hotels policy, but if you want a sunbed, get down to the pool area/sea front, and grab a couple when they are unchained at 08.00hrs. If you don't, you will find the Germans, French and Russians will have picked all the best beds( quite alot are broken ) and positioned them in all the best places. You tend to find that a representative from a group will be up to set out their area allowing the others to have a lay in or to enjoy a late breakfast !!! then out comes the towels and bags to claim their prize.

I once got down prior to 08.00 and found all neatly folded towels, on the floor, in the areas where the sun beds were to be placed. Our foreign sun seekers had found another way to stake their claim for best positions and apart from causing trouble, there was nothing really you could do about it. If you can't beat them, join them.

I shall keep my comments about the restaurant to a minimum. In my experience, it's one of the best I've encountered within a 3star establishment. You will never starve. It has variety, quality and quantity.........................Very good.

You can also eat at the Pizeria if you don't fancy the restaurant. Two excellant ladies- Katerina and Radmiila will ensure that you have a comfortable meal and will see to your every need.

The rooms are plain but clean, cool and spacious. The maid cleans up and makes the beds daily, providing clean towels when required. The hotel doesn't provide beach towels so you have to bring your own.

If you don't intend doing anything during your stay, this place can provide plenty of R & R. However, we visited Dubrovnik twice. Once by boat and the other by local bus. We had a fish picnic during a three Island trip by boat, taking in the great scenery. Also a trip to Montengro is a must, taking in Kotor and Budva. We took numerous walks into Cavtat and sat drinking coffee of beer in the bars along the harbour. Very peaceful.

Would we go back to Cavtat ?.............................definately.

Relaxing Cavtat

"Iberostar Epidaurus,

Cavtat Croatia

5 Sept 2006

Charlie Ross

Hotel food good plenty of it, very clean all around hotel, rooms good and cleaned every day its worth paying extra for a balcony and sea view the sunsets were brilliant. Most of staff were very helpful there were a few who seemed to not want to know you.

Entertainment was in my opinion poor and needs a serious revamp also during the day some of the games became very rowdy and noisey which I found disturbed other people who were relaxing in the area.

Drinks were all local for those on all inclusive package and again found the beer only just drinkable, premium beers & spirits expensive.

If you want a sunbed you need to be up early to reserve one, even though this is not the hotel policy to reserve the beds with towels etc.

Cavtat itself was very nice with some very picturesque walks, if you venture to Dubrovnik take the bus from Cavtat it is a lot cheaper than the boats and a lot quicker with some magnificent views on the way, a tour of the walls of the city is not for the faint hearted plenty of steps and ramps to climb.

If you are looking for nightlife then this is not the place to visit, its a good place to go and relax and watch the world go by.

Just a word of warning be aware of the scooters that run around on some of the footpaths when out walking, also Cavtat is over the flightpath for the airport which can be a little noisy at times.

If you walk into Cavtat good place to stop for ice cream or drink TIHA cafe on road into Cavtat very friendly and helpful service

all inclusive

"Having gone all inclusive for the 1st time i found the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable. The hotel overlooks a bay with picture card views, it is siuated about 15 minutes walk from the town of cavtat. The rooms are of a good size and cleaned on a regular basis, food offers a good variety of choice minimum of 5 different options every meal. There seemed to be an abundance of staff everywhere catering for every need.

The hotel provides some entertainment although fairly limited, meals seemed the highlight at night times and with everywhere shutting at 2am in Cavtat, not for the party goers and clubbers of this world.

We found taxis particulary expensive the same price as UK if not more.

We would recommend a trip to Montengro ( Blue) as described in brochures worth every penny.

Finally a word of caution the bed of the sea around hotel is very uneven and rocky swim shoes a MUST or risk cuts.

As we booked this holiday from...

"As we booked this holiday from Germany ( where my husband who is in the army was stationed at the time ) and speaking minimal German, we were a little concerned as to what we would find when we arrived ! We needn’t have worried. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and made a tremendous fuss of our 10 month old daughter. We had a spotlessly clean room with a glorious sea view -which was cleaned daily - our cleaning lady even folded our daughter pyjamas and tucked her teddy into the cot which had been provided. The food was good and the dining room staff were excellent - we were never made to feel guilty about the amount of mess our daughter made !

The hotel is a 15 minute walk away from Cavtat town which is a beautiful place with ample cafes and restaurants all of a very high standard . There is a lovely walk around the headland.

From Cavtat you can catch a bus or boat to Dubrovnik - or the hotel can arrange a taxi. It is a place not to be missed.

This was our third holiday to Croatia and when we return we shall certainly stay at the Epidarus because of the warmth of welcome and high quality of service we received.
