Stayed here in June of this year for...

"Stayed here in June of this year for 2 weeks......when was this hotel refurbished not in the last couple of years. Its clean can't fault that, towels get changed every day, pool towels as well robes and slippers in the room didn't bother with the robes tired looking been washed a good few times slippers new. Kettle with a couple of tea bags and a couple of coffees but only milk for one cup per day!!!!

Stayed half board big mistake plenty of selection but everything is fried in oil including bacon in a chip pan and all vegetables, ended up with toast on a morning. Evening meal not a lot better one night tomato and orange soup every night was a clear beef soup just looked like a bovril cube with water added never tasted it, meat is not a good quality at all. Ended up having lunch out late afternoon great place opposite Alexander the Great called mont'ys english bacon sausage etc so weren't that hungry on a night not a Thomson Gold. Bar quite expensive happy hour for 1 hour 6 -7 pm, great bar called pegasus sold draught larger and beers 2.60 cyp, also food that was reasonable and ok spent every night in there.

This hotel is a good hours walk to the harbour we did this quite a bit but we knew the area anyway and where the hotel was situated so it was ok for us. Watch out for the ticket (louts) all british I might add who pounce on you as soon as you step out of the hotel on motor scooters and in cars with scratch cards trying to sell you time share at the panaretti which was known as something else a couple of years ago. The harbour is the worst place, the best thing to do is ignore them they don't like it we were swore at a couple of times got stopped up to 5 times a day even the tomb of the kings road wasn't safe.

We have been to Cyprus for the last 6 years and won't be going back mainly because of this and its so expensive. The shops in the harbour sell the same things as the shops on the way to the harbour but they are nearly twice the price and they follow you about so I didn't go in to them again. Just want your money now.

Very clean hotel and the maid service...

"Very clean hotel and the maid service couldn't be faulted.

Breakfast was plentiful and egg dishes (omelette, poached, fried etc) were all prepared fresh to order.

Expect to pay around £4.00 (CYP) which is about £4.40 Sterling for a taxi to town or 80 cents on the bus (no 11 or 15 run from outside the hotel to the harbour).

A lot of people complained about the reserving of sunbeds around the pool and it was a bit of a pain (usually all gone by 7.00am!!) but there were always free beds available on the (hotel's private) beach.

If you like Chinese food then go to Chloe’s No 1. (opposite the Municipal Baths).I rarely recommend eating places but this is, by far, the best Chinese I have been to.

If you go up the Troodos mountains make sure you stop off at one of the local wineries for a free tasting (and the wine is surprisingly cheap to buy).

brilliant hotel

"visited Pioneer beach from 28th March to 4th April as a single travellor. I must say i have visited many 4 star hotels in Europe over the past 5/6 years and this was the best by far.

I arrived on the Wednesday Evening and had a very quick check in. The Concierge took my bag to my room. As a single travellor I am used to small rooms with no balcony. I was surprised to be greeted with twin beds, half a bottle of wine, fruit, sea view wiyh balcony, dressing gown and slippers, iron, tea making facilities, free bottle of mineral water and sky sports one and two.

Bedrooms were cleaned every day with a plentiful supply of towels. One for the beach, one for the pool, one for the shower.

Food was excellent with many themed nights. Free champagne with one breakfast, free cocktail on the Saturday as well as free ouzo and another spirit on other nights.

Staff were very efficient and friendly who made me feel very special (not always the case with single people). I especially enjoyed the company of Katirena in the Bar, Sabina in the restaurant, Anaka the waitress and the two entertainers.

There were three bars on with darts, pool and sky sports which had competitions and quizzes. A marco polo bar which had a duo most nights and a room downstairs for ballroom, greek dancing and a 60/70 disco and quiz.

My only slight criticism was the location which was about a 30/40 minute walk to the harbour but this was made clear in the booking so no complaints there and the busses stopped at 6.30 in the winter months.

Overall great value for money and thanks to all staff.

Had a great break in this hotel.

"We have just got back from the Pioneer where we went for a late winter sun break.

Whilst the hotel was not the type of hotel we would normally stay in (we prefer smaller hotels/B&B’s) we were very pleased with our choice.

The room was a good size and fairly simply decorated. It was very well equipped with iron, ironing board, beach/pool towels, kettle, fridge and hairdryer (albeit a very old one so would recommend taking your own). The room, as were all public places, was very clean. One tip – there is not much tea/coffee/milk provided so pick some up at breakfast and take to your room.

The hotel also has a small ‘supermarket’ in the basement which stocks the basics such as drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic), snacks and toiletries. We found the prices to be the same as other shops nearby or in town.

We found all the staff in the hotel very friendly and helpful.

We stayed on a B&B basis and thought that the breakfast was fab - lots of choice (i.e. hot and cold) and everything very fresh - you could sit there and munch for ages!

The hotel has a great outside space - swimming pool and gardens and beach (although that was not usable whilst we were there as it was full of seaweed which they were cleaning up as we left). Being an adult only hotel, despite there being a lot of people around, it was very surprisingly very peaceful outside. Unfortunately we were unable to use the outdoor pool as the water was not warm enough. However there is a small indoor pool which was OK for a dip. The hotel also has a small gym consisting of a couple of running machines, bike, stepper and a few weights - whilst we were there we were usually the only people using it.

Despite being in our forties we felt that we were amongst some of the youngest people in the hotel - I guess the only down side to this was that the hotel was not very lively at night - however this didn't bother us as we always went out in the evening. The hotel does provide entertainment/theme nights every night but I couldn’t say how popular this was as we didn’t go.

It took us about 30 minutes to walk into Pafos (either along the seafront or by road) but there are several restaurants along the way (nearest about 10 minutes) if you don’t want to go all the way into town - don't believe brochures when they say it’s a 15 minute walk! There is a regular bus service to Pafos Harbour, Pafos Old Town and Coral Beach. During the winter months they stop about 18:15 but in the summer they run until about 23:00.

We hired a car for two days and paid a similar price to a previous reviewer. We found it easy to get around and not much traffic on the roads – would certainly recommend this if you want to see some of Cyprus and don’t want to take guided tours.

I would recommend this hotel if you want a quiet relaxing break.

Absolutely Fabulous

"I have visited this hotel 3 times and I would highly recommend it. The staff are fantastic, the rooms bright and comfortable . The food is great with plenty of choice and I would recommended travelling half board. The location is ideal if you like tranquility but you can jump on a bus to take you to the market, coral bay and the harbour. This hotel chain takes some beating and I will continue to visit for many years to come."

Good hotel

"I read old reviews and then i choice this hotel. Yes, it was very peaceful place and there i can sleep good. Not night time noise.

Some aeroplanes go over, but only daytime. Airport is near, i measure by Google-Earth about 6 km straight to west.

Ok, i book non-smoke room, but i get smokers room. That is a little bad thing, because room was very clean.

Bus to harbour or to Coral Bay was only 70 - 80 cents.

waterpark was near and it is open summertime. See photos.

There was horseriding and karting race near too.

If you like walk, you can go harbour about 3 km and then arkeological site and there you can walk more. And backside on hotel i see many people walking on beach.

Derby and Joan Club

"We have just returned from a two week holiday at the Pioneer Paphos which overall was very pleasant and relaxing. The staff were excellant attentive and obliging and the choice of food must be the best I've experienced in over 40 years of travelling, if you can't find anything to your liking you are indeed hard to please and for these points I give it the above average rating, however, the hotel is starting to look a bit tired and is in need of a revamp it is clean and tidy but is starting to show signs of wear and tear. The clients are generally of retirement age and beyond (some well beyond) and return year after year hence my reference to 'Derby and Joan Cub' I say cub because we were made to feel like outsiders encroaching on 'their' territory we smiled and said hello but many of them ignored us or gave us a steely glare, having said that there were many first timers like ourselves who were pleased to pass the time of day. We can't comment on the local restaurants as most of them were closed so we couldn't sample their wares. A tip if you like a bottle of wine with your evening meal, buy it in one of the bars during the happy hour and take it into the restaurant this will save you half price and the hotel management have no objections to this, likewise if you like to finish the bottle with a cigarette or cigar you can take the remainder back into the bar. This was our first vist to Western Cyprus and on balance I would say we prefer the East but each to their own as they say. N.B. take a look at the Athena Royal Beach while you are there we think the nicest hotel in the group."

February at Pioneer Beach

"We have just returned from a week at the Pioneer Beach Hotel. The hotel is situated in a quiet part of town. We found the management and the staff attentive and helpful. The food was excellent, with theme nights each evening. The breakfast menu offered a wide choice, was good quality food, and was well presented.

Our bedroom was at the side of the hotel, with a view of a natural shoreline. There was a fridge in the room which was only stocked with minibar items if you wanted it, otherwise it was available for personal use. There was a very reasonably priced mini market downstairs, so we were able to stock up with fruit juices, water and wine.

As the weather was a mixture of rainy, cloudy and sunny days, we found there was plenty in the hotel to occupy us. Evening entertainment was good most nights and there was an opportunity to learn sequence dancing.

Our stay was 16 - 23 February and on the 25th was the start of the annual European Bowls Championships due to be held in the sister hotel. There are outdoor bowls facilities as well at the Pioneer Beach and the hotel provides free instruction.

It was a very enjoyable stay and we recommend it.

Just back..Loved it!

"Would go back in a heartbeat and we will return again to this hotel or any one of the chain.

Outside the hotel the bus runs past and they are clean and have a set price. Down the road is the triangle (Shops and lots of resteraunts) or farther down is Kato Paphos (Lower Paphos). Jump on the bus and hop off where you like, easy and comfartable. Kato Paphos is the harbour area with tons of cafe's and reseraunts, there is even a KFC, Pizza Hut or Mc'D's if that's your thing. Seafood is excellent.

Watch out for the touts about though. They will ask if you are English and then try to sell you something, just say No, firmely and politely and they will leave you alone.

Prices are similar to UK although we found some cafe's a little expensive for what was offered. Try and find the larger resteraunt that the locals are using, always a good sign of quality.

The Rib Shack stood out (located at the triangle) for us and the steaks served there were excellent and I would recomend trying the Ribs in Jack Daniel sauce.

Food in the hotel was again, exceptional, buffet style service with more than you can possibly get through. Range is huge and all was cooked perfectly. No production line food here, all cooked fresh in front of you.

The main Hotel had 2 bars, both exceptionaly decorated and very well staffed. Service again was great and the wooden/marble surroundings made you feel in the lap of luxury.

Prices in the Hotel for refreshments whether soft drinks, alchohol or tea/coffee were very good and we were very surprised at how little it cost.

The hotel pool was very clean and spacious with wooden recliners and liner provided. Parasols and tables available with the Pool bar opening 10-6 so everything you need is on hand.

The Room was very clean and well stocked with toiletries as well as bathrobes and slippers for you.

The staff were extremely attentive and professional. The best service I have ever had.

Walk though the pool area and past the greens were you can also find recliners and you are at the beach. Having your own private beach is a real plus and it wasn't busy and again recliners and parasols are all available.

We hired a car for 2 days and went in both directions from Pahos to explore. First day to Nicossia and Aphrodite's birthplace and on the second day to Coral Bay and the Truddos Mountains. Very worthwhile trips, scenery breathtaking, 2 days with the car was more then enough. The car was from Sixt and was £27 per day plus a little charge, came to £65 for the 2 days, very reasonable. Had a auto CC VW Pasat, nice drive and aircon a must.

Weather was exceptional. November and we were baked when lying out. Mid afternoon was hitting 26 every day. The locals mentioned that this was unusual though, guess we were just lucky.

Brilliant Holiday, Brilliant time, Loved it, would go back in a minute.

If you are going, have a great time!

Mixed Review

"A mixed review, but maybe my expectations were too high from reading previous reviews!

Room: Nice, clean, comfortable rooms with Sky TV and a sea view balcony- lovely. Nice touch with towelling robes and slippers for use, and basket of fruit and bottle of water on arrival.Mini bar empty so you can use it as a fridge- great idea as the mini market on the ground floor is not too overpriced considering the convenience of it.

Facilities: Excellent- table tennis, gym, 2 pools, internet access, darts, plenty to do indoors if it rains!

Restuarant: This is sadly where my review turns for the worse- plenty of choice avaiable and the food is nice. However, we were violently sick for 2 days which we believe was due to something we ate in the buffet style restuarant (as only place we ate). And most regrettably on the last day we found small insects in our chocolate cereal- which i promtply highlighted to the staff who were very apologetic and replaced the serving bowl on the side but when i went to look at this new bowl it still had insects in it!- yuck!

It is our overall dining experience which im afraid slightly tainted our view of this lovely hotel. The guests that stay there are all of a certain age but in our mid to late 20s we didn't mind a bit and loved chatting with them and there was a great atmosphere.

Weather: mmm, not as hot as i was expecting, but apparently its not been as warm out there of late as it has been in previous years. We had 3 full days of sunshine, rain and some cloudy days. The sunny days were glorious- warm enough to sunbathe, but not too hot you need the shade. Evenings were 'jeans and jacket' cold!

Costs: Everything is about the same price as in England.

Local Restaurants: Not sure i liked the Rib Shack that much but the Aegean restuarant near the hotel (about 10mins walk) is pleasant and friendly staff.

Would i return?: Perhaps if we hadn't been ill or had bad weather! It is definitely a nice hotel i can recommend, but the quality control of food there needs to be addressed!

"Just returned from a relaxing week in a 'nice' hotel.

It is worth mentioning that this really is a 'kids free' hotel and therefore very quiet. It is also worth mentioning that most of the customers are over 70 and are 'returners', if you keep going back you'll get a 15% discount on your room!

All the basics are there at the Hotel, it is clean, well kept and the staff are helpful, but, for us the fantastic weather (26-30 degrees everyday), bright blue cloudless days made our holiday.

We stayed on B&B basis, we did try the Hotel evening meal, which is a hot and cold help yourself buffet which was good.

There is nothing in the immediate sorroundings, and although Pathos town is a 5 minute bus or taxi ride away there is nothing really to make you want to return there. Being October it was the end of the season and everything was shut by 10pm.

If all you want to do is relax by the pool in the sunshine reading a good book then this place is for you.

"It is an over rated hotel, needed a revamp! Food good but only had B&B board so can only vouch for breakfast. Beach was steep, with lots of rocks & stones and LOTS of seaweed, made getting in & out of sea difficult, and looks like most of sand has washed out to sea. Pool not too clean water was milky & really busy. Room on small side with tiniest balcony we have ever seen but view made up for it! Paphos its self is lovely some lovely restaurants & small bars if you like Chinese try Chloes near the harbour it’s the best ever got to see it to believe it !!!! Will go back to Paphos but not to this hotel."
