Best place to stay

"We stayed at the Nicolas Apartments in Megali Amos. They were clean and well situated. We had a lovely view from our studio. Skiathos town is within easy walking distance and it only takes approx. 10 mins to walk to the port.

Ramona and Achilles run the pool bar. Sue has gone out to help them this summer. They are all great fun and made our stay exceptional. Ask Sue how Ted Bear is. Ninyo, the dog, is very loveable. He doesn't like to be fussed but he doesn't pester either. He came and sat with me on the sunbed on the couple of occasions I spent by the pool.

great value and location

"We are a retired couple, now 66yrs and 65yrs respectively and have been to Skiathos four times before. However Skiathos can be very hilly in places, and we were feeling some trepidation, as to whether we were doing the right thing in coming again. We have never been to Nicholas Appts before, and found Ramona and Achilles her husband very friendly, we were greeted on arrival and the appts are simple but very clean. We had a complimentary bottle of wine in the room. There was a T.V. although we could only find one english speaking channel, kettle, and both hand and bath towels. All were changed regularly. But best of all the appts were within easy walking distance to the Town, a lovely beach just opposite across the road, and two handy supermarkets. There was only a slight incline to walk on entrance to the appts. The pool bar can be very lively at night, but even if you are not ones for that, we do recommend Nicholas Appts for good value and location."

super skiathos

"We wanted a cheap week away and this seemed like a good option, the location appealed most of all - within walking distance of the main town (which is lively, yet civilized and has a good range of restaurants and bars) on a small island loaded with over 60 beaches!

Nicolas apartments is clean and homely, plus they have just had aircon installed in all of the rooms! It takes 10mins to walk to town, and 3>4 mins walk to nearest beach.

The island has strict planning permission, so no high rise apartments or commerical/ industrial centres at all! which is almost unique nowadays and it is not over run by Brits, Germans, Russians, etc - just a fine balance of holiday makers (mainly from Athens!). It has one long pedestrianized shopping road leading to the port and the port itself is lined with restaurants - with classy bars and clubs at each end (lots of good looking people and no drunks).

I was told it was a resort for old people - but in August there was a strong showing for every age group. We are late twenties and it was perfect for us.

1. Hire a speedboat and go to the beaches on the pine islands around the bay. if your lucky you will have a beach to yourself!

2. Banana beach at sunset.

3. Hire a jeep and go beach hunting - main small roads are not tarmacked - but still ok with a normal car.

4. Go to Kastro (old abandoned village) and head for the beach bar. A real find

5. Boat trip to Lalaria

6. Scuna restaurant / Windmill restaurant / bbc (club). All top class

Brilliannt Holiday

"We returned from Skiathos on 27/6/2007 this is the best holiday we have had even enjoyed it better than Barbados last year. It was excellent value for the money we paid. The holiday was made better by the staff at the Nicholas. Ramona , and Lorenzo the bar man ,Achilles Ramona Hubby who did a greattbarbie. They were so friendly and even if they was not enough people at the bar didi not make you feel you should go Our room was very spacious had just been renevated.was cleaned every day .Skiathos is lovely island vey relaxing , beautiful beaches and the bus to the various beaches cheap. It was a heatwave whilst we were there so did not get much walking but they are plenty of walks if you wish. These apaprtments are ideally situated as you can walk into skiathos town in 15 mins most of the other resorts just have apaprtments have a couple of tavernas Some brillaint resturants the best for views was Plakes in the part off town where the local live once you find it the view is brillliant over loooking a bay abd the food delicious. We also ate at the Old Jail house this was good too great steakes and lamb shanks a bit dearer but the food was worth it. We went on a boat trip to Sklopes book from the harbout as it is cheaper this was brilliant as we saw the dolphins . Skiathos is alovely island more for couples but we would go again maybe for a week usually we dont like going to the same holiday destinations twice. The only down fall is that the Nicholas it being used by Scandinavians next year and Ramona and achilles wont be there . The staff her e really made this holiday and if we go oagain will search Skaithos to find your bar to say Hello ans see if Ramona as learned to make Yorkshire puddings"

Friendly place

"We have just returned from Skiathos, and have had an excellent time. It was our first time to the island and we absoultely loved it.

The staff at Nicholas apartments are so friendly and helpful - they gave us lots of advice on beaches to visit, trips to take, places to eat etc. The apartments were very clean and met our every needs. The bathroom is quite small and basic, and the shower has no curtain so after taking a shower the bathroom was flooded! However, i wouldn't let this put you off.

The kitchen was small again but sufficient for what we needed - there was a kettle, toaster, fridge, two hobs and plenty of cuttlery.

Air con was available at an extra cost - i think it was 5euros a day but we did not require this as our room did not get much sun. Having said this our friends room was very hot and they required the air con.

Somebody asked about safe deposits and the staff just laughed and said we did not need them. We found the place to be very safe - the staff don't even lock up the booze on an evening, it is all left on the open shelves of the bar.

There is a pool bar at the apartments which stays open as long as people keep drinking, and does snacks throughtout the day. The weekly BBQ is a must - there is plenty of choice and it is a good time to make friends and get merry. Being vegetarian i got to eat for half price but there was still plenty of choice - the stuffed vine leaves are yummy.

We thought the beaches in Skiathos were beautiful. We went to a different beach every day on the local bus which is very cheap and runs very regularly from outside the apartments. Banana beach was our favourite - the big banana beach (small banana is a nudist beach).

The apartments are located a ten minute walk from Skiathos town which is very handy. We tended to only go in to town on an evening for a meal and a few drinks but often ended up back at the apartments for a night cap.

We had very nice weather for the majority of our trip. However the last two days were stormy which worked out well for us - our flight was cancelled and we ended up having to stay anothr night!

All in all, Skaithos and Nicholas are apartments were fantastic and we cannot wait to return again.

What a holiday!

"Such a lovely place to stay, rooms are good and have nice views, very safe. Swimming pool is lovely and pool bar is great fun, Sevi and Wendy do a brilliant job of looking after you and giving you lots of cocktails!! All english speaking with Wendy who comes from Liverpool so had a great time, they're very friendly people. Cleaners work very hard to keep rooms spotless.

Rooms are spacious but do tend to get very hot in the summer as there is no air con, however opening your balcony doors do let some air in but you may need to buy a fan.

Set in a beautiful place, however there is a steep hill up to the apartments, a 10 min walk from the centre of skiathos. Bus stop situated 2 mins away with telephone and supermarkets right on your doorstep.

Beaches are nice but do recommend you visit koukanaries as this is a beautiful beach.

Would definitely recommend this place to anyone, but mainly for couples who want a relaxing holiday, however nightlife in skiathos town is quite good for anyone who likes a late nighter!

Overall had a great stay and would love to go back!

"On arrival we were meet by a very friendly guy named sevi who was in overall charge of the site.

He led us quickly to our room and told us to meet him at the pool bar for a free welcome drink as soon as we had unpacked.

The room was a bit on the small side but very clean and comfortable with a great view from the balcony.

The pool is great and cleaned reguarly and the pool bar has a great varity of cold beers and wines etc and the site is kept clean with colorful flowers everywhere.

We found our stay here very peaceful and friendly, the pool bar stays open untill very late and you can always grab a hot snack.

If you want spectacular beaches, fantastic views, friendly and helpfull locals and great places to eat then look no further, if you want noisy and liveley then this is not for you.

perfect holiday

"All I can say is that it was the best holiday we have ever had. Ramona and Achilles are the best hosts, they make you feel so welcome. They treat you like family and really look after you. The rooms are great and they are cleaned really well everyday. it is only a quick walk into skiathos town and there you will find a huge range of great tavernas.

All there is left to say is, you must go and try it, it is the best place to stay in Skiathos by far. The Sunday Bbq, it is well worth it, especially the tuna salad, just ask Achilles.

Enjoy. Becky Perkins Derbyshire

Absolutely Lovely

"As a young family with two small children the Nicolas Apts. were ideal. We were part of a small group (17of us) in Skiathos to attend the wedding of my Sister. The couple running the apartments, Ramona and Achillies were lovely lovely people. As first timers to Greece I have never experienced a welcome like it. We were made to feel at home, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The rooms were spotless and the views were great. Very relaxing during the day around the pool and just as relaxing at night.

We are looking to go back to the apartments this year with a bit of luck.

Definatley recommend it especially the time of year we went. Sept. the weather was great and only a small car journey (10mins) to the most georgous beaches.

One word ---- GO.

Skiathos main town has a busy and...

"Skiathos main town has a busy and cosmopolitan feel, and has many places to eat out, ranging from simple fish tavernas to restaurants offering Chinese and French cuisine. For those looking for a wide choice of nightlife, Skiathos town has a good number of bars, and clubs with foreign and Greek music.

We had fantastic weather for the end of the summer season, reaching 36 degrees in October. Although nightclubs were closing down for the season there were still many Watersports, boat excursions and other activities available. We managed to hire our own speedboat, for only 60 euros, around £35, and well worth it, for a full day too. We visited some of the smaller surrounding islands, very beautiful too. Like the other islands Skiathos is extremely verdant and green, but it also has an abundance of fine, sandy beaches, which stretch all along the south facing coast, reputed to be 60 in total, all offering fabulously clean seas and golden sand.

The Koukounaries beach is rated in the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world.
