This hotel surpassed all expections....

"This hotel surpassed all expections. It is very much a 5* resort, situated along a lovely beach with similar * rated resorts adjacent.

The service is excellent, the staff seem to know what you want before you do!

The food is varied and delicious (we stayed for 10 nights and nothing was repeated), however there is a choice of 5 restaurants if you do feel like a change.

We did Thai one evening and it was superb, the chef being a Thai national.

The resort is extremely well maintained and the rooms are large, spotless and all look over the ocean. To watch the sun setting from the balcony was very beautiful.

The spa is luxurious, treat yourself to some pampering.

There are some quaint touches too, such as the torch lighting ceremony every evening.

Take advantage of the free water sports. Go dolphin watching - delightful, and snorkelling - fantastic. The boat house boys are a great bunch.

Take a horse out for a canter along the beach, chill in a hammock with a good book, dance in the pool at the aqua aerobics session, sample the delicious cocktails....

My one reason for not giving top marks was the prices. Very, very expensive on the resort. Drinks are 5 times as much as outide. A bottle of suntan cream was £32.00! Pop to the supermarket 15 mins walk away. You can stroll down the beach to get there.

Go and explore the island though. It is beautiful. Ile aux Cerfs is a must do.

Overall I would definately recommend this hotal and I am very fussy :-)

This hotel was the best that we have...

"This hotel was the best that we have ever stayed in, the staff were fantastic and the food second to none. If you are looking for a relaxing and intimate holiday this is the place for you. Every evening we watched the sunset with spectacular views. The rooms were very well maintained and cleaned thoroughly every morning. I would say that anyone thinking of staying there will certainly not be dissapointed. I would advise taking advantage of some of the day trips offered, as even these seemed exceptional value for money. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff at the Hilton for making our holiday such a special one, with a Special Thanks to a certain member of staff named Rogan as he really knew how to make all the holiday makers feel special."

A dream...

"We were exhausted by work when we arrived on this holiday, booked at the last minute. The ongoing courtesy and high standard of service, the massages,the cuisine, the care, friendliness and thoughtfulness of the staff at this hotel transported us to another world and will stay with us forever! We cannot say enough good things..."

A fantastic place to stay ...

"Arriving on 3rd March to be greated by a Cyclone was not the best way to start our 6 day trip to mauritius!

However it only lasted a couple of days and then the weather was perfect within a few days(30 degreees+).

This hotel is fantastic... the staff are extremely friendly and willing to help, the spa, whilst not cheap, is not expensive by UK standards for what you get. The rooms are cleaned twice a day and if you are lucky enough to have a seaside Suite, i challenge you to find many better settings in the world!

Stay Half Board as there are not many places to eat near by (need to get a taxi) and the evening buffet food is fantastic, different theme each night (Italian, Neptune, African etc etc). Booze is expensive so a few drinks in the room before supper can be a good idea, or join the cocktail happy hour.

Do not be put off by a certain review of this hotel, you will have a fantastic time. Yes, there are birds around the breakfast area, but they are not that bad and this is the only possible fault of our stay. As for the swimming pool, it is designed to look the way it does and the floor is not rough at all - at 28 degrees it is a pleasure to laze around in.

A taxi from the airport can be found for c.R1000 each way, the hotel will charge R1400. you can pick one up when you arrive and use the same person to bring you back...even adding a bit of an island tour on the way.

Great all round hotel

"This hotel is situated on a lovely beach with plenty of room to accomodate all guests. The pool is more picturesque than practical for swimming, but it makes a nice view. There rooms are large, clean and comfortable, with great balconies, not one with a bad view, and some lovely touches like candles,slippers, bathrobes, complimentary water, and some cakes and flowers in the bathroom sink on arrival.

Ther is 24 hour room service with a decent menu which is great when working long hours on business. The restaurants seem ok if a little pricey, as was the bar prices.

I used the spa for some treatments which was excellent although very expensive, so choose carefully.

The staff offer excellent service, adn the hotel has a no tipping rule - you put all tips in a box at reception, which is a great idea.

It is a great place for a beach holiday.

Hilton...never again

"Just returned from the Hilton and what a dissapointment.For a five star hotel it does not live up to the required standards.No pool service in eight days apart from going to the bar to order then it was diliverd to you.No cold towels.One small bottle of water dropped by you to share with your partner,no glasses.the pool is not tiled.

and therefore the grey and abrasive cement bottom and sides looks very dismal,more like a fishpond.Breakfast is good but the birds that flock around you are a real put off and we regularly avoided cereals because birds had .... in the bowls and were rarely cleard away.Tea or coffee usually took so long that we had often nearly finished eating before it arrived.Dinner was excellent and of a very high standard so no complaints there.we regularly had to ask for towels and milk for coffee etc as they were forgotten although on request was delivered very promptly.The beach is uninspiring particularly as we were told by our rep to be careful as there were sea urchins.Lovely looking hotel and good rooms.Gardens lovely and well kept.I would advise looking at other hotels if you want a 5 star holiday as I doubt if you have high expectations that you will be happy at the Hilton although I think that for business travellers they will be well suited.

A one-week-only great hotel

"My wife and I spent our recent honeymoon in this hotel. What to say ? Lovely.

Even the basic rooms are nice. But being honeymooners, we complained (which we do, errr, a lot !) and were told we would have another room after a few days. Ok folks, don't accept this. That's the usual hotel trick where you settle down (so you already accept availability is not 100% granted, that's half the job done) and then you're told well, you know, sorry... no other room available ! (other half of the job... completed ! old hotel trick, trust me on this). So refuse it NOW while still possible ! So we did and got a beautiful standard room with a view and the promise of a suite (in front of local TO representative) within a few days. And we DID. And what a suite, goodness me ! Sea view, beautiful balcony, great bed (for a long time I hadn't slept so well)...

Now, second very important subject, the food ! Groovy, really. Buffet changes every night, and if you want something a bit different, the staff will do their best and they'll make it happen. Seriously. Like : my wife is a pure veg', the type who bugs people at the restaurant because there's mayonnaise (=eggs) in a dish. She got eggless pancakes every morning. Yes ! She got the chef to step out of the kitchen to point out what was veg' in the buffets. Anyway, all vegetarian dishes were labelled so to start with and if you mention your diet upon checking in, they'll take care of it. Also, pay a visit to the thai restaurant. Yummy.

Wine : if ordering by the glass make sure the bottle was not opened last month. They don't pay attention to such details, but the taste turns sour because open wine doesn't keep good at such temperatures. Tell them, they'll change it.

Entertainment : ok, that's the same band which plays the same songs in the same order every night. Well... do something else ! Otherwise, waterski, boat, snorkelling, everything is cool. BUT low tide may make them shut early and the guys have a tendancy to snider if you don't know how to waterski...

Hammam and sauna are free and the Spa is great, so enjoy, except hammam was slippery when we were there. My wife fell and got badly hurt and as of today the hotel still believes they're not responsible... well, you know now. But they had the courtsy to accept (did'nt we insist !) to offer us a field-trip since my honey couldn't do anything else but lay down or watch tv.

So you see how great ? Now, there are some downers, of course, especially for fussy people like we are :

- the hotel is on a strict one-week-program. Every monday is like the monday before foodwise, music wise, entertainment wise and so on. Every tuesday also, and so on eveeryday of the week. Talk about variety. Don't stay 10 days it's lethally boring !

Another consequence is that people lack a bit of initiative. If you ask for something a bit out of the way, follow up. They'll forget it because they don't know what to do, it's not part of the routine... And if they don't know, some will ask, and some will answer anyhting to make you go away : note the blank looks when they answer !

Now, if they can do it, once again, they'll do their best and WILL go out of their way to please you.

The prices, compared to usual Mauricius prices outside, are a total rip-off. Want a fresh coconut water ? Don't go to the bar. Go to the free beach (Hilton's is private), 45 seconds away by foot, and buy it for less than 30% of the price. Don't take a taxi through the hotel, taxi prices depend according to your hotel. Walk 2 minutes and enjoy a negociated ride up to 50% cheaper. Hey, do you think telling a cabby you come from the Hilton will make him lower his rates ? No meter here, so what do you expect ? You're a tourist after all, you paid for this ;-). So never mention what hotel you come from and if asked, have a good, communicating laugh and ask your guy why he wants to know. But don't tell him ;). You should be able to find people at 1400 roupies a day... or buses which will take you to Port-Louis for 10 roupies ! Port-Louis is not so worth a visit, btw, compared to Pamplemousses or Chamarelle.

Now, these people are the nicest of the universe, they're talkative and master English as well as French, and the hotel is still very good. Visit the island also. Don't miss this opportunity, enjoy, try this warm sea water, be charmed by the beautiful birds and fishes, and hide from the sun, it's lethal there ! probably one of my very most bestest tripests ever (ain't that best , heh ?)

Hilton Spectacular

"My partner and I stayed at the Hilton in Mauritius during September 2005 for a week and all our of our expectations were surpassed, from the complimentary cocktails on arrival to our departure at the end of the week everything was perfect.

Our room was extremely clean, being checked by the maid on a twice daily basis leaving clean towels and fresh water bottles on each occasion. The beach althoughs lightly shingle-y due to the coral was beautifully clean and clear.

The entertainment and food at the hotel was magnificent with a different theme every night and although I dont eat fish and therefore thought I may have to go without on the the local fish night the staff actually cooked a steak to order!!! What service! :) Drinks can also be quite expensive so the happy hour is great with two for one cocktails, the hors d'oeuvre man and live music in the vista bar each evening.

The hotel staff were excellent and extremely helpful when booking transport and locla taxis for trips etc, arranging great deals with reputable drivers.

Although we were only in Mauritius for one week we found that was more than enough as it is only a small island and therefore only so many trips you can go on.

The Hilton is perfect for anyone wanting a nice honeymoon with little to do but sunbathe and read with the odd trip thrown in for good measure - dont miss the diamond factory!!

Perfect Couples Destination

"My husband and I are relatively well travelled. We like a high quality of hotel & high standards all round. We were nervous about having a beach holiday on an island as we tend to have more of an energetic holiday. However from the moment we arrived we had the "WOW" factor. We were treated like royality from the first moment. We were greated with the welcome "Gong", seated and was brought a cold refreshing towel & welcome drink. We were then taken to our room, we received an upgraded room to a suite with a bottle of rum, basket of fruit and polo shirt & sarong. We have stayed in many luxury hotels and were very impressed with the size & standard of this room. Two bathrooms, a lounge area, sea view balcony on the third floor, two televisions, it was lovely. We felt very relaxed, spoilt, extremely looked after where nothing is ever too much trouble. The best memories we will always treasure from our holiday are the wondeful warm & friendly people the Mauritiuns are. We made some good friends there, we exchanged addresses with a couple of members of staff there who are very special & we will miss dearly. The vista Bar, we had a great night in there every night, we enjoyed the entertainment, the buffet was nice every night but we couldn't resist dining in the fabulous restaurants on a good few evenings. The fine dining restuarant is very nice indeed and the fillet beef is a must. The Thai restaurant is also fabulous we could not fault these at all they are the best of the best for dining experience. We ate on the Jetty for my husbands birthday which again was amazing. The staff made a cake with happy birthday Martin on and made the evening extra special with a few special touches. We had a couples massage which was fantastic. The gym & spa is very good. We were made to feel very VIP with our treatment from start to finish of the holiday. All the management team and chefs are accessible and nothing is ever too much trouble. There aim is definately to please. We hope to return next year as we fear that it will be hard to meet or exceed the whole experience at the Hilton Mauritius elsewhere. If you are planning to go, we would recommend without hesitation. You need to bear in mind drinks and food are on par with a nice hotel in London but you are in a 5* hotel which is expected. We were very sad to leave. There are so many things to write about it is impossible to cover everything. The beach, pool area,hotel grounds, the lighting ceremony at 1900 hours every evening are all faultless. We did not get one mosquitto bite as the hotel does a fogging excerice every evening and this eliminates them. You will not be disappointed at all. If you enjoy the best things in life, and want to experience a holiday of a lifetime - you have to go."

Perfect honeymoon destination

"My wife and I spent our honeymoon here and we are glad we chose this hotel in Mauritius. I echo the previous trip advisor comments, this is indeed a amazing 5* hotel.

From the moment you arrive you are given a wonderful welcome. You are met by the manager and given a cocktail at the bar whilst you sign in. Your room is then beautifully presented (honeymooners recieve a bottle of rum, t-shirt and serong).

We stayed on a half-board basis which is probably the best option as there is so much to do in mauritius you do not want to be restricted to the hotel.

The spa is amazing, and the treatments are excellent. We would recommend the couples massage.

The resturant works on a buffet basis which serves different food every night. This is based on "themes" for example different foods from different countries.

For lunch if we were not out on a tour or sailing we would eat at the hotel. The cost for this is about £20-£40 depending on the meal and drinks. This is expensive compared to the costs outside the hotel but you are staying in the Hilton!

The hotel beach is beautiful and the watersports provided by the hotel are free. The hotel is located on the west coast, which has the best weather on the island.

As everything is charged to your room, at the end of the honeymoon we had spent several hundreds of pounds in the hotel! However it was money well spent because it was our honeymoon and we had a fantastic time.

Fantastic Hotel - The best on Mauritius

"This has got to be one of the best Hilton Hotels in the world. I travel for my work and have stayed at numerous hotels all over the world. My wife worked in the hotel industry for 15 years and was a director of a 5 star hotel and casino in Macau and Beijing. We both agree that this hotel is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The environment is beautifully landscaped and the staff are so professionally courteaous that they are more like the staff at the world famous Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok. Half board is sufficient. The breakfast doesn't finish until 11am and the evening themed buffet, (with their Michelin Star head chef), has food of the highest quality and is the highlight of everyones day. Mauritius is a poor island, but if you stay at this hotel you won't want to venture out. We spent our honeymoon here and it was money well spent. The prices for drinks and additional food is on the high side but other than that the hotel is faultless. We would definitely return to this hotel, (and only this hotel). We visited several other hotels on the island to compare them with the Hilton and they were just not the same. This is without doubt the only place to stay. You will not be disappointed."

Home from Home

"From the moment you arrive, you will be treated as a valued guest to make you feel at home. The cordiality of the staff is to be commended and wherever you look you will see a smile. What a difference it makes! The Hilton is a very professional and well managed hotel.

The hotel architecture is fine and it has been well built; the grounds and gardens are absolutely magnificent bordering right on the lagoon. The rooms are bright and airy and all face the sea. We stayed in Junior suite which is extremely comfortable with a lot of space.

The location on the west of the island is good for weather and getting around is easy and convenient for all locations in the sightseeing agenda.

We ate at all the restaurants and the atmosphere and food is excellent. The Thai pavillion for those who like Thai food, is top-top! La Melanzana, the top restaurant is a bit pricey compared to others on the island.

The Spa is well appointed with a fabulous relaxation area in a small secluded garden. The staff are competent and the treatments are done by extremely professional people.

The concierge will arrange for any service one might require from the simple booking of a taxi to organising a day of big game fishing.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely visit the isalnd and this hotel again.

To conclude I believe that the Hilton represents real value for your money. We did visit some of the 5 star deluxe hotels and quite honestly I do not believe that the steep difference in price justifies a stay. The Hilton is certainly a viable competitor to them.

We certainly would recommend this hotel.
