A view of Paradise, the AngThong National Park in Koh Sumui, Thailand A view of Paradise, the AngThong National Park in Koh Sumui, Thailand
The South-East Asian country of Thailand shares it borders with Burma, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia.

Thailand as a tourist destination has its roots in the 1960s when American servicemen, fighting in the Vietnam War, visited the country during their leave time. As travel became cheaper, and more airlines began to fly to Thailand, so the number of tourists increased and today Thailand is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

The country offers its visitors an abundance of attractions from Buddhist temples, museums and archaeological sites to mile upon mile of sandy beaches and hundreds of coastal islands. The most popular resorts can be found in Southern Thailand and include the party island of Ko Pha Ngan, the island of Ko Samui with its idyllic beaches, and Thailand’s largest island: Phuket. Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, is a vibrant city where tourists come to experience the colourful nightlife as well as visiting the ancient temples and shrines that are dotted around the numerous districts.

The weather in the south of the country is tropical in character and experiences a dry season running from January to April, and a wet season lasting from May to December. The average temperature does not change significantly throughout the year, staying at around 30°C in the daytime.
