Tenerife is 4 hours flying time from the UK and part of the Canary islands, around 100km off the coast of Africa. The North of the island is fertile and green, a whole different climate from the South with its rather barren scenery and famous black sand beaches. Tenerife is home to Spain's highest mountain, Mt Teide, which stands nearly 4000m above sea level.
There is a mix of accommodation from self catering studios and apartments to magnificent 5 star hotels complexes. The South of Tenerife is probably marketed more towards families and young people than the North, which is generally preferred by couples and more mature holidaymakers wanting a peaceful, relaxing break.
Tenerife is the busiest tourist destination of the Canary Islands, alongside Gran Canaria, and there are enough bars, pubs, restaurants and discos to keep everyone entertained, especially in the famous Playa de Las Americas. Don't miss out on great excursions available locally such as whale-watching, jeep safaris and trips up to Mt Teide. Tenerife's mild winter climate makes the Island a great year-round holiday destination.
