St. Lucia Holidays
The Marigot Bay in St. Lucia.
St. Lucia is a Caribbean island and part of the Windward island group.
Like many of the islands in the Caribbean, St. Lucia is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on its eastern coastline and the Caribbean Sea on the west. There are various watersports on offer in the resorts, with scuba diving being very popular due to the coral reef that lies off the west coast. The interior of the island is very mountainous due to the volcanic nature of the island and two of the most famous landmarks are the Pitons. These are a pair of volcanoes, Gros Piton and Petit Piton, located in the town of Soufriere, which is also home to the world’s only drive-in volcano.
The summer and winter seasons in St. Lucia are barely distinguishable from each other and temperatures remain around the mid 20s throughout the year. The chance of rain increases during the months of June through to November although the number of hours of sunshine remains the same as the drier months of December to May.
The main international airport that serves the island is the Hewanorra International Airport, situated in the south, approximately 40 miles from the capital: Castries.
